Executive Committee Herb Reese, President Matt Kinning, President Elect

President’s Message Herb Reese, HBAL President If you would have asked me last January how I thought my presidency would go, this is definitely not what I had imagined. I am now in the last two months of my pandemic presidency and I feel so honored to represent and lead HBAL. I am proud of our community and the way we have come together to support each other during these crazy times. We have all had to learn how to adapt and everyone has done an excellent job being flexible. I would like to give a shoutout to everyone who was involved and helped with the Fall Parade of Homes. It was a tremendous success. On November 16, we will be holding the HBAL election and membership drive results virtually. Watch your email for a link to join us! I encourage you to attend HBAL 101 on November 17 and to invite other members and nonmembers of HBAL to join you. Anyone who would like more information on HBAL and what we do is welcome to attend. Lastly, our Santa Cop project will look a bit different this year. Instead of our traditional build day at Northeast High School, we are inviting you to drop off toys at the HBAL office. These toys will be given to the Lincoln Police Department and distributed to those in need by our police officers. This year has proven to be challenging, everchanging and downright bizarre. However, with Thanksgiving quickly approaching, it is a reminder to stop and be thankful for everything we have been given. This year especially, I am thankful for my family and their health and happiness. Spend time with your families this Thanksgiving and be thankful for the time spent with them. On behalf of the entire HBAL staff we wish you a safe and filling Thanksgiving!

#HBALThrowback In 2011, HBAL collected toys for local charitable organizations to distribute to children at Christmas. The annual toy drive was called “Dolls vs. Wheels” and provided a friendly competition among our members.

The Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation will be collecting new toys, games, etc. as well as monetary donations for the Lincoln Police Union. These donations will be used to ensure a brighter holiday season for struggling families in Lincoln. Donations can be dropped off at the HBAL office, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. Donations will be collected until November 13. Tax-deductible donations may be sent to: Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation 6100 S. 58th Street, Suite C Lincoln, NE 68516 Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not able to use the Northeast High School shop for our annual Santa Cop Project this year. 5  Lincoln Business Builder

Young Building Professionals

YBP Election of Officers

My favorite time of the year! Husker football, pumpkin spice and cozy warm bonfires.

The following is the Young Building Professionals Council ballot for 2021. If you would like to nominate anyone else to the ballot, please contact Andrea at 402-423-4225 or andrea@hbal.org by December 1. President Sam Swartz

Build DCB, Inc.

The Fall Parade of Homes was a great showing from our builders. It’s fun to Kelli Fleek see everyone’s hard YBP President work pay off and come together to build a house. Well done!

Vice President --> THIS COULD BE YOU!! <-Secretary Bailey Ward,

American Electronics - Lincoln

We had a few more items on the calendar than usual this month. It was great to see new faces and our current members at the Hard Hat Happy Hour at Zeng Granite. We will continue to have these smaller events and encourage you to attend if you are able. If you are interested in hosting, please contact me or the HBAL office. Our Midday Meetup speaker, Sarah Collins, educated us on “Selling Yourself.” What a wonderful speaker! We appreciate her spending time with us. Our next event is HBAL 101 on November 17 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the HBAL office. Join us for lunch! I’m grateful for each one of you and blessed to be in this industry with some truly amazing professionals. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your 2020 president. I pray we continue to be healthy and are able to work through these tough times. 28  Lincoln Business Builder

Young Building Professionals

Hard Hat

Happy Hour The Young Building Professionals Council gathered for a Hard Hat Happy Hour on Thursday, October 1. Zeng Granite, Inc. hosted food and drinks at their office located at 3035 N. 35th Street.

Thanks for having us!

This popular evening event is hosted by member organizations and is open to all HBAL members and their guests. A great opportunity to grab a drink, visit different offices, warehouses and showrooms and network with like-minded professionals in a laid back environment.

YBP Opportunities Are you looking for ways to get involved with the Young Building Professionals Council? Here are a couple ideas!

Serve as a YBP Officer

Join a New Committee

YBP is looking for individuals who would be willing to serve as vice president in 2021. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills, network with like-minded professionals and have a hand in the direction of the Young Professionals Council.

With the creation of two new events for 2021, we will need creative minds to join these new event committees. Since the Officers are still planning, we are unsure exactly what the committee needs are, but we do know we will be looking for fresh perspective, time and leadership. Contact Andrea Wilkins for more information! 29 ď ´ Lincoln Business Builder

Remodelers Council

Remodelers Council Election of Officers

Publication of the Remodelers Council of Lincoln November 2020 • Vol. 23, No. 11

It was great to bring members back together for our October meeting at the HBAL office. Our guest speaker was Whitney Korger, who has experience as a real estate agent and photographer. She showed us how to easily Heidi Polacek Remodelers Council take photos with our Chairperson phones and modify them to use on social media. She talked to us about the importance of good lighting, warmth of photos, cropping and point of view. All great tips when it comes to showcasing your work! Our next meeting will be November 4 for a tour of the renovation project at 16th & O Streets by BK Restoration & Remodeling. We will meet for lunch at Honest Abe’s and the tour around 12:15 p.m. We will have a short agenda which will include election of officers for 2021. Please RSVP for this event if you plan on attending lunch, the tour or both! As we have colder temps and, dare I say it…flu season, please know we have to be flexible when it comes to our gatherings. We may need to reschedule, cancel or go virtual with the event at a moment’s notice. Make sure you are receiving email updates from info@hbal.org and follow our social media accounts for the latest information. 30  Lincoln Business Builder

The following is the Remodelers Council ballot for 2021. If you would like to nominate anyone else to the ballot, please contact Jennie at 402-423-4225 or jennie@hbal.org. We will vote on officers at the November meeting.
