President’s Message
Beau Daffer, HBAL President
I recently had the opportunity to golf with a few members of other home builders associations in the vicinity. Once they found out I was president of HBAL, they asked me what we do and how we help our members. I was able to fill them in on all the meetings we have with groups like City Council, Building and Safety, LTU, etc. I told them we spend time building relationships with these people which results in them allowing us to work together to make the building process in Lincoln the best we can. They were amazed at how active and involved we are at HBAL. It was a great reminder that we have an amazing staff and amazing membership that care so much about our industry and our community. Thank you to all of you who stay involved and help to make HBAL so successful.

On another note, here we are. School has started. The first Husker game is just days away. Temperatures will start to cool down. All this shows fall is almost here. For Family Night this year, we will be going to Roca Berry Farm on October 19. Be sure to add it to your calendar.
I will leave you with some words of encouragement:
If you wake up every morning thinking you will never be great, you never will. We have to choose what attitude we are going to have. So wake up every morning with the attitude of being great!

Member News
On behalf of the thousands of women and children who have benefited from safe shelter and supportive services at Friendship Home over the past decade, we extend our deepest gratitude for your sponsorship of our Safe Quarters event at the $2,500 level!
Twenty years ago, three remarkable women with a passion for our mission created an amazing event. They wanted to raise money, heighten awareness of the issue of domestic violence and allow our business community to demonstrate their support and leadership.
Leaving a violent relationship can be complicated as well as dangerous. Without the support of the community and businesses like yours, we would struggle to provide victims with the kind of resources they desperately need and deserve.
Friendship Home is proud and honored by your sponsorship. Your generosity and commitment help create a safer community for everyone.
Sincerely, Angie
Hilsabeck

Tell us about your family. I have been married to my wonderful husband Kile for just over two years. I have an 11-year-old son, Will, who keeps us on our toes with his fun personality and sense of humor! We share our home with a very furry / feisty Yorkipoo named Max.
Name a recent movie you watched that blew you away? Origin. It’s gut wrenching, but so important to be informed on the facts of what people are forced to face.
What are you currently binge watching? Land of Women on Apple TV. It’s fun to watch in Spanish.
Best restaurant you've ever been to?
Kile took me to an amazing French seafood restaurant Le Bernardin in NYC in 2019. It was course after course of some of the most amazing seafood dishes in the world then three courses of dessert to finish off the night. The whole experience was perfection!
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? Two pictures of me were in the National Geographic when I was a teen. The local photographer, Joel Sartore, was doing a spotlight on life in Nebraska so he followed my detasseling crew around. I’m covered in mud in the pics and a hot mess!
What's the strangest thing you've ever done? When I was studying in Costa Rica, my travel buddies and I had rented hammocks on the beach to sleep on for the night. There was a huge crab right by
my face, so I decided to try to sleep on a nearby bench. When I walked up, there was a dog sleeping on the bench. I tired to shoo him away, but he wouldn’t budge. So I scooted him down a bit and laid down. A few hours later I woke up to the sun rising and the dog was still cuddled up by my feet!
Who is someone who's made a big impact on your life? Why? My mom. She has this quiet calm wisdom about her. She has supported me and believed in me every day of my life, no matter what. What do you love the most about your job? I love building relationships with my clients and working to make sure I take care of them. It is incredibly rewarding when we see the finished space and how happy the clients are!
What’s one skill you’d like to develop or sharpen this year? I would love to learn how to use the rendering programs my amazing team members are able to use for our clients. People love seeing real life renderings of projects to fine-tune selections!
How has your career benefited from being a member of HBAL? I appreciate having HBAL in Lincoln and I love the Parade of Homes. It’s always an honor to be able to design a home for the Parade!
Any tips or advice for new HBAL members? HBAL can be a great networking tool and I like the community building aspect of it!
