It’s hard to believe we are moving from October into November, this year is flying by. Our yearly Membership Drive is wrapping up on November 30th so there is still time to recruit some new members and win the $1000 top prize. Also, don’t forget to RSVP for the HBAL Casino Night Holiday Party on November 30. Let us do the planning and make this your company party! I want to give a shout out to Denny Van Horn for organizing HBAL members to help with the Friendship Home Safe Quarters collection day. Thank you to all the who walked that day to collect donations for this important cause. We have a few events coming up including an education opportunity, Diffusing the Ticking Time Bomb on November 13, featuring tips on how to handle tense situations. And a personal favorite, Santa Cop toy build is November 18, and there will be projects for all ages. This is a great way to kick off the holiday season. I hope you can make it!

Thank you so much for participating in the 21st Annual Safe Quarters event. We had such a great turnout! Through the money raised on event day and event sponsorships, Safe Quarters raised a total of $72,208.20! We continue to be amazed and humbled at the generosity of our community and the kind hearts of our friends like you! We thank you on behalf of the survivors who made the next step to safety because of your support. Funds raised will go towards providing safe shelter to those fleeing a violent intimate partner relationship. Because of YOU, a family is safe and unharmed today. You are a partner in our work – and that also makes you a part of their story of survival and new beginnings. For nearly 45 years, we have provided for survivors of intimate partner violence – in whatever way they needed. Those needs have increased and become more complex over time, but Friendship Home has stepped up to find a solution at every turn. Thank you! HBAL's team was in the top three raising $1,872.04! Thanks to those who participated! • • • • •

What HBAL members have shared about this class: • “A great class to learn how to diffuse a tense situation with communication instead of action.” • “As a female in the building industry, I felt like I had no voice. I took away an abundance of tips to reason with someone who is upset. I would definitely take the class again!” • “I found this class to be a valuable tool in negotiating and understanding different personality types. The presenter gave an engaging and interactive presentation with many real life examples of how to use the information in practical situations.”

Wayne State College. After college, Dave was an assistant golf professional for a short time before working at a startup company that had immense success working with business owners across the country. Dave credits much of his success to working with those business owners, learning many of their best practices for success, and then applying those lessons to the multiple businesses he owned prior to VirtuActive. Many of those lessons are being applied to this day at VirtuActive. One of Dave’s loves is taking ideas and bringing them to life as well as working through obstacles to find a solution. One of Dave’s core beliefs is that by striving to help others achieve their success, your own success will follow. Dave has had the opportunity to serve in leadership in many organizations in his career. Dave has previously served on the Anytime Fitness Franchisee Leadership Council and the early years of Complete Nutrition’s Franchisee Advisory Council. Dave is currently serving on the Board of Directors for HBAL and the Board of Directors for the Professional Remodelers Association of NE/IA. Dave previously served on Metro Omaha Builders Association’s Associate Council as Vice-President and President, nominated for MOBA Board of Directors, served on Centersphere Leadership as Vice-President and President, and BNI Leadership as Vice-President and President. In his personal time, Dave loves to spend time with his wife, Katie, and their family. Dave and Katie have a blended family with 3 sons, Tyler, Cruz and Leo. Their weekends are spent like many of yours, running kids around from youth sport to youth sport and driveway beers with friends and neighbors. Dave is an avid golfer and recently has been introduced to a new passion, hunting, much to Katie’s dismay. 19 Lincoln Business Builder

Last month, we toured the Willard Community Center. It was so neat to see a renovated 100-year-old building providing many uses for the community! There are many Ben Klein opportunities for us Remodelers Council to give back to our Chairperson community. Could you donate materials or labor to help build a house or other community project? Sponsor a team or event that is close to your heart? At LL Countertops we've sponsored Strides Against Breast Cancer and Relay for Life teams, donated countertops for the Lincoln Children's Museum and YMCA, supported B.A.C.A in their fight against humantrafficking and volunteered with HBAL and the Remodelers Council. Giving back in this way shows we are part of our local community and gives our customers another reason to support local businesses. Please think of some organizations and become involved. One way you can give back is by participating in HBAL's upcoming Santa Cop project on November 18. This is where HBAL members and their families build toys to be distributed by LPD officers to kids they encounter out in the field. I can't think of a better way to kick off the holiday season. Another event to consider is the class, Defusing the Ticking Time Bomb: Techniques for Tense Situations, which will be held on November 13. This would be great for anyone since we all have the occasional difficult conversations with clients or co-workers.

Willard Community Center October 18, 2023
The Remodelers Council met at the Willard Community Center for their October meeting. Originally built as a school, the 100-year-old building was renovated in 2017-2018 and now serves community members of all ages.
Remodelers Council Election of Officers The following is the Remodelers Council ballot for 2024. If you would like to nominate anyone else to the ballot, please contact Jennie at 402-423-4225 or jennie@hbal.org. We will vote on officers at the November meeting.
