Thanks to all who came out for our Big Red Night last month and thanks to Coach Tim Miles for being our guest speaker. That night I had the great privilege of honoring Jim Crawford as an Honorary Life Member of HBAL. Jim has been a stalwart supporter of HBAL for over 40 years and has been very active in the association, most notably in membership recruitment earning over 730 spike credits. Jim, thanks for all you’ve done for HBAL and I wish you and your wife, Sue, a wonderful retirement. Our industry is still extremely busy and still struggling with a shortage of skilled labor. At HBAL we’re brainstorming ways to attract the younger generations to our local industry. On September 20 we assisted SCC Milford in their Nebraska Construction Career Day where high school kids from around the area toured the facility and participated in some hands on activities related to construction. We’re also exploring ways to plant the seed at the grade school level, so stay tuned and I encourage you to offer your own thoughts and ideas. We can’t change the world overnight (wouldn’t that be nice?), but we can do our part now to change things for the future. Our Fall Parade of Homes is just around the corner, October 2-9. There will be 39 homes on display. Another event fast approaching is the Sporting Clay Shoot on October 21 with proceeds supporting the Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation. Check out the calendar of events on the next page to see what all we’re doing at HBAL. Don’t forget the General Election is November 8. Your voice and vote matter, but can only be heard if you participate in the process. HOMEPAC has interviewed a number of the candidates and will be sharing a list of candidates most favorable to the housing industry in the weeks ahead. GO BIG RED!

Bath & Kitchen Idea Center by Lincoln Winnelson Position: Designer/ Showroom Manager Phone: 402-423-2157 Email: kjdring@winnelson.com Company Information: We are a wholesale plumbing supplier who provides premium fixtures as well as cabinetry. We have a 20/20 design software program that generates 3D renderings for our customers to help visualize exactly what their kitchen or bath will look like. How did you get started in the business? I have a Bachelor of Science with a major in Interior Design and a minor in Industrial Distribution. I discovered Winnelson through a career fair at the University of Nebraska Kearney where I went to college. Favorite Song: Justin Moore’s “Till My Last Day” Favorite Books: Any book that I get to read to my daughter, Kennedi. Favorite Movie: The Ugly Truth Favorite TV shows: I usually don’t watch a ton of TV, unless its cartoons on Sunday morning with my daughter or football with my husband. Favorite local restaurant: Blue Sushi What do you find rewarding: Being a wife and a mother. I learn something from both everyday. Biggest challenge in life: Understanding others’ thoughts, feelings and emotions. What inspires you: Designing is something I have a passion for, I feel like it expresses who I am and lets me be creative. What did you want to be when you grew up? A wedding dress designer. I’d have my own boutique and live in the studio upstairs. Pet Peeve: People who talk too loud in a restaurant so everyone else can hear his/her conversation or when someone blows their nose while they are eating. Bad Habit: Bitting my nails when I’m stressed or nervous. First thing I do in the morning: Brush my teeth. Favorite vacation spot: Knoxville, Iowa for the Sprint Car Nationals. Favorite thing to do on a day off? Relaxing with a day of getting pampered: hair, nails, tan and good massage. Greatest Hero: Kelly Cartwright, she has a prosthetic leg and competes in both running and long jump. Childhood fear: Someone touching my feet... LOL, I HATE FEET!! Family: The most important people in my life. Friends come and go but a family is someone that you will have your entire life. Greatest accomplishment: Runner-up National Champion and 6-time All American in the Long Jump. What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? When I was younger I use to hunt with my grandpa, dad and uncle. I wish I had time to do more of that. If you could have a super power, what would it be? To be able to tell-a-port myself at anytime to anyplace in the world. What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? Thats a good question. I’m going to have to start asking myself this more, so I can utilize all my skills to be more efficient in my daily work. Which talent would you most like to have? I wish I could sing. I would love to travel around the world on tour. If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? Ellen DeGeneres

4 Hard Hat Happy Hour
Millard Lumber, Inc.
11200 N. 148th Street | Waverly, NE Fall has officially arrived and YBP is wrapping up a successful second year. Our social committee has been hard at work making plans for the remainder of 2016. Our next Hard Hat Happy Hour is October 25 and we need your support and assistance with taking apart the old Parade of Matt Kinning Homes signs to be recycled. So grab YBP President your gloves and tools and meet us at Millard Lumber on October 25. The YBP Holiday Party is scheduled for Thursday, January 26. There are some fun things in the works and we look forward to installing our new YBP officers that evening. More details to come! A special thanks to Marvin Window & Door Store for hosting the September 21 Hard Hat Happy Hour and for our Midday Meetup hosts and attendees that participated in lunch on September 27.
