President’s Message

Bo Jones, HBAL President Holy cow!!! It’s the end of August already and the kids have been back to school for weeks. Thank you to everyone who attended the Hog Roast and a big thank you to Matt and Tracy Kleinschmit for being wonderful hosts once again. There are a couple events coming up: • On September 13 we have our annual Membership Lunch which is open to all HBAL members and guests who you feel would benefit from joining HBAL. Please plan to attend and invite a guest who is interested to hear about HBAL. • September 17 is the HBAL vs. REALTORS Trivia Night at Yankee Hill Country Club. As I recall REALTORS won last year so we need to step up our game and get a win for team HBAL. You received an email from Michaela Harrison which shared information about the National Association of Home Builders’ attempt to get our members to join a satellite association of the Norfolk Area Home Builders Association. This is merely an attempt to force our members to join the state association which offers Lincoln and Omaha members little to no benefit. We continue to be willing to work with the National Association of Home Builders to find a solution to rejoin, but the state association is acting as a roadblock and their attempt to mislead our members is only further evidence of their intent. If you have any questions about this ongoing process, please reach out to Michaela at the HBAL office, Mike Kinning or Mike Rezac. I continue to be amazed at all the wonderful things HBAL does to promote and protect our industry and I am thankful for everyone pitching in to help.

Goal-Based Networking

November Membership Luncheon & HBAL Election Goal-Based Networking by Jeff Beals Networking has never been more important, yet most professionals don’t do a great job of it. The successful professionals are the ones who cut through all the noise in today’s frenzied world and find ways to build trusting relationships with clients, colleagues and persons of influence. Now is the time to get out and meet new people! This session will introduce you to “goal-based networking,” a technique that sharply focuses your communication efforts. You will learn what to say, when to say it and to whom you should say it. You will learn how to synthesize social media with traditional networking. Once you master goal-based networking, your colleagues will be left wondering just how you became so well connected both locally and within your profession. Monday, November 12, 2018 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Yankee Hill Country Club 7600 San Mateo Lane Cost: $15 for HBAL Members or $25 for Guests

Young Building Professionals

YBP Mailbox Thank you very much for the Young Building Professionals’ $2,300 contribution to Lighthouse from the Light the Way 5K fundraiser. I appreciate your generous and on-going support.

Wrapping up another successful summer of events! The Bean Bag Tournament at the Hog Roast last month was a lot of fun. A huge thank you to sponsors, volunteers and participants that made the event happen. Congratulations to the winners of the Bean Bag Tournament: Hayley Lane Ron Fricke and Mark Aksamit with YBP President Window Option Specialists. Chips, Salsa, Repeat! I could eat chips and salsa everyday. If you love it as much as I do, then make sure you mark your calendar for Friday, September 21. We have been invited to a salsa tasting contest at the Lighthouse. Come help us judge salsa made by the kids with ingredients from the Lighthouse garden! We are also looking for volunteers to help with the Lighthouse’s Halloween Haunted House on October 29. We will be putting together some walls for their haunted house. No experience necessary. We have our last Midday Meetup of 2018 in October. Also, watch your email for more information about a YBP Tailgate in November.

I appreciate the Young Building Professionals’ support of Lighthouse. Your contribution will help countless teens graduate from high school, learn healthier coping skills, become successful young adults and make life long impacts. Thanks again for supporting Lighhouse’s programs of tutoring, mentoring, enrichment and recreational activities, and serving nutritious evening meals to the adolescents of our community who are at-risk for many unhealthy behaviors. Sincerely, Pete Allman President

I appreciate all of your work with Lighthouse. You all did an amazing job with the run this year, and to triple it in one year is amazing. I look forward to our developing relationship. Bill
