Each member of HBAL plays a vital role in our Lincoln community. Each one of us adds a layer that is key to building safe homes for our friends, family and community. Although the work we have done in the community is important, it cannot compare to the work our police officers and first responders do every day to ensure our safety. For the month of October, I would like us to remember these individuals who put themselves at risk to protect our family and friends. I would like to thank Mike Rezac for putting together a fundraiser for Police Officer Mario Herrera and Lancaster County Sherriff’s Deputy Troy Bailey. Honor the Fallen Fundraiser will help honor the sacrifice and service of the Lincoln police officers who have given their lives in service to our community. Take time this month to remember the police officers and the first responders in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you LPD and LSO for your service to help keep Lincoln safe. Also, don’t forget about supporting the events we have coming up at HBAL. The Fall Parade of Homes is October 4 -11 and the Clay Shoot is October 9.

Fall Parade of Homes
COVID-19 Guidelines for Parade of Homes While taking part in the Fall Parade of Homes, safety measures will be taken seriously. As an attendee of the event, we ask that you follow these guidelines: • Stay home if you are potentially sick. Those displaying COVID-19 symptoms may not be granted access to the home. • Due to the limit of 10 people allowed in a home at a time and the nature of children to touch surfaces, we ask that children not attend this event. • Maintain 6’ social distancing guidelines while waiting to enter the home, talking to those working in the home and while touring the home. This may require waiting to enter a hallway or a room until the group ahead of you has left the area. • Refrain from touching surfaces and handles in the home. • Make sure to wear/bring socks with you as you will be asked to slip your shoes off. If you do not have socks on, you may not be allowed to enter a home. Consider bringing a bag to carry your shoes if it is raining. • All visitors must wear a face covering to enter a Parade Home. The Home Builders Association of Lincoln is requiring all event participants showing a home to take the following steps for their safety as well as the safety of the public to prevent the spread of COVID-19: • We encourage those working the Parade home to wear a face covering. • Limit the number of people in the home at one time to 10. • Builders are encouraged to leave on all lights as well as open all doors to minimize contamination. • Frequently touched areas such as countertops, door knobs, stair rails, display areas, etc. will be cleaned and disinfected often. Wipe down commonly touched surfaces with disinfectant every hour during high traffic and every four hours when light traffic. Your interest and participation in the event is greatly appreciated. We hope you enjoy the Parade while still being mindful of the current health situation. If you do not feel comfortable viewing the homes on this year’s event, please contact any of the builders directly or visit www.HBAL.org to view the online guidebook and video tours of the Parade of Homes. 7 Lincoln Business Builder

YBP Opportunities Are you looking for ways to get involved with the Young Building Professionals Council? Here are a couple ideas!
Serve as a YBP Officer
Join a New Committee
YBP is looking for individuals who would be willing to serve as secretary or vice president in 2021. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills, network with like-minded professionals and have a hand in the direction of the Young Professionals Council.
With the creation of two new events for 2021, we will need creative minds to join these new event committees. Since the Officers are still planning, we are unsure exactly what the committee needs are, but we do know we will be looking for fresh perspective, time and leadership. Contact Andrea Wilkins for more information! 21 ď ´ Lincoln Business Builder

Learning a few key strategies can take these important interactions from “meh” to “oh, yeah!”

Chairperson’s Message by Heidi Polacek
Fall is officially here and so is football! Well, kind of. The kids are back in their new school routine. Change is hard. Fall is a great reminder that change can be beautiful. I hope you’re able to see the good things that have come through the changes we’ve had to make in the last few months. I was disappointed to have missed last month’s tour of the Sunken Gardens. From the photos, it looked amazing and it was nice to see so many of your familiar faces! Our next meeting will be Wednesday, October 7 at the HBAL office. Whitney Korger will be sharing her tips on how to best photograph your projects to use for marketing. There will be plenty of room to spread out at the HBAL office, however if you would like to attend virtually, please let Jennie Korth know, and she’ll get you set up to watch the presentation from the comfort of your home or office. 24 Lincoln Business Builder

Remodelers Council Opportunities Are you looking for ways to get involved with the Remodelers Council? Here are a few ideas!
Donate Winter Items The Remodelers Council will be collecting hats, mittens, gloves and other cold weather items for a few of Lincoln’s elementary schools. Please keep this in mind as you start your holiday shopping!
Share Your Ideas
Join a New Committee The Remodelers Council Officers are exploring a concept for a new event! Other groups around the country have teamed up with their local Habitat ReStore to hold a design competition using items from ReStore. We think this would be a fun way to engage our members and possibly even students interested in residential construction and design. If you are interested in getting involved and helping bring this event to life, please contact Jennie Korth! 26 Lincoln Business Builder
The Remodelers Council typically meets monthly over lunch for: • a tour of a project that has recently been renovated or is currently undergoing renovation, • a tour of a fellow member’s place of business or • a presentation relative to remodeling or running a business. We are open to ideas from our members! If you have suggestions for tours or guest speakers, please email us!
