On Friday, August 26, we will have our annual Remodelers Council Scholarship Golf Tournament at Holmes Golf Course. The proceeds from this tournament benefits the Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation which provides scholarships to local youth going into the residential construction industry. Whether you participate because it’s a good cause or because you love to golf, this is a wonderful event where we can spend time with our employees, customers and friends off the jobsite. Plans are in the works for this fall’s lineup of monthly Remodelers Council Meetings. In November we’ll have an opportunity to tour The Career Academy. One of the biggest issues we have in our industry today is the lack of individuals coming into the trades. We need to encourage our youth to look into careers in the residential construction and remodeling industry. The Career Academy is a perfect place for high school students to get a taste of what it’s like. If you have ideas for future meetings or tours, please be sure to let me or Jennie Korth at the HBAL office know. I look forward to seeing you soon!

Simple Solutions for Home Building Workers In 2013, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) released Simple Solutions for Home Building Workers: A Basic Guide for Preventing Manual Material Handling Injuries. This publication was written especially for young and less experienced home building workers. Original drawings and non-technical language are used to describe manual material handling injury risks and how these risks can be reduced and/or eliminated for certain activities. Home building is physically demanding work and manual material handling may be the most difficult part of the job. These activities increase the risk of painful strains and sprains and more serious soft tissue injuries. This booklet provides basic information about readily available work practices and equipment that can help both new and experienced workers, contractors and builders prevent serious manual material handling injuries.
