Chairperson’s Message by Rick Willet

I hope your summer is going well and you have made some time to get away. As I am writing this, I am in Kalispell, MT visiting my daughter and family. We usually make time to spend a couple weeks here in July or August so the weather is nice enough to do some work on their house. I am usually reminded the importance of service (or lack of) while I am here and the relationships we build with our suppliers for our business at home. No disrespect to Montana people, but things move at a much slower pace than I am used to. One time I needed to re-key the door locks for their house. I sent my wife to a “box store” to get this done, and she was told the one person who does that had gone home and would not be back for a few days. Another stop resulted in about the same response. We tried hardware stores as well, and I could not get anything accomplished until the next day. This year’s trip, I have been building a small deck landing and steps. It took five trips to a regular lumber yard before they could get me all the right parts for the railing, and I am still waiting on some products I need to finish the project. I could go on, but the point is, we need to really appreciate those people we work with on a regular basis and who get us our materials and supplies in a timely manner. I know I have taken this for granted and will return to Lincoln with a refreshed appreciation for those who service us so well. Thank you to all who help us be a great service to our customers.

The group will meet at Billy’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. for lunch. Afterwards, we will walk to the Kennard House for the tour. Watch for more information in the September issue of Steps!
