Chairperson’s Message by Mark Aksamit
Greetings to everyone, It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your Remodelers Council Chair these past 12 months. I would like to thank all of you who were able to make it to our November meeting at The Bridge. I found it to be very enlightening seeing all of the help and services they provide. As I look back on our meetings and gatherings, I recall the speakers, the events and tours we have taken together. The gathering of food for the Food Bank House at the Home Show, the Tour of Remodeled Homes, the golf outing. For me, the ones that stand out were the tour of the Newman Center and St. Thomas of Aquinas Catholic Church and The Bridge Behavioral Health. The beauty of the remodeling done at the Newman Center was breathtaking and the services that are provided by The Bridge were humbling for me. Both of these places provide services for our community, as do we as an organization. This all happens because of your support and volunteering of your time. I encourage each of you to find time to give back and volunteer where you can. I want to thank Megan Dreyer for her time served as Vice Chair this past year and will be excited to see what comes in the next year under her role as your Chair of the Remodelers Council. Our next meeting will be December 2 at Hillcrest Country Club for our annual Christmas party. Once again we will be collecting gloves, mittens and hats to be donated to local school children. I look forward to seeing all of you there. Merry Christmas!

REScheck Requirements The State of Nebraska requires Building & Safety to enforce the State’s Energy Code when a new dwelling is constructed or when an addition of conditioned space is added to a dwelling. Contractors are required to provide a REScheck certification that the project complies with the energy code. REScheck software makes it fast and easy for builders, designers and contractors to determine whether their project meets the requirements of the IECC or a number of state energy codes. REScheck also simplifies compliance determinations for building officials, plan checkers, and inspectors by allowing them to quickly determine if a low-rise residence meets the code.
For more information on the REScheck software, visit:
www.energycodes.gov/rescheck There you will find the software user’s guide and a plan review quick reference guide under the technical support tab. A helpful video can also be found on YouTube at
https://youtu.be/mD7Yxvpeq4A
REScheck is appropriate for insulation and window tradeoff calculations in residential detached one- and two-family buildings and multi-family buildings three stories or less in height above grade, such as apartments, condominiums, and townhouses.
402.483.7575 3133 S. 7th Street • Suite D Fax (402) 483-7577
REScheck works by performing a simple U-factor x Area (UA) calculation for each building assembly to determine the overall UA of a building. The UA that would result from a building conforming to the code requirements is compared against the UA for your building. If the total heat loss (represented as a UA) through the envelope of your building does not exceed the total heat loss from the same building conforming to the code, the software generates a report that declares your building is compliant with the code.
