When I was a kid, my brother hated going to the dentist so much that he skipped an appointment and let my mother think he had gone. She dropped him off and he pretended to enter the office. As soon as she drove away, he walked to the 7-Eleven a block away and played video games until he had to meet her outside the office building. I shouldn’t compare the Home and Garden Show to the dentist, but sometimes I think exhibitors similarly dread it because it means a lot of hard work and extra hours. However, just like the dentist, the end result is worth the discomfort. Even if you don’t see a sales bump, it’s important to be seen by the public, both as individual companies as well as an industry as a whole. The building trades are often maligned due to some less than reputable enterprises and sensationalized news stories. The Home Show is a great way to present ourselves as the professionals we are! I hope exhibitors take the time to realize how beneficial the Show is to their businesses, and maybe those who don’t exhibit will consider doing so next year. I would also like to extend a thank you to all the volunteers who transported 4,379 lbs. of food from the main entrance to the Food Bank House. Your time and effort is always appreciated. Our March meeting will be at the new Cornhusker Bank at 84th and O Street. I enjoy taking these tours because they represent the tangible outcome of the building permit numbers we see every month. Our next meeting will be at the HBAL office with Ron Petsch from SCC speaking about their Residential Construction program. I hope to see you as we learn about how SCC is helping prepare individuals to fill the needs within our industry.

Tour of Remodeled Homes Saturday & Sunday • April 29 & 30, 2017 12 noon to 5 p.m.
Remodeler’s Contract I.
Entry deadline Friday, March 10, 2017. A. First entry fee is $550. B. Additional entries are $350. C. HBAL members not belonging to the Remodelers Council will pay an additional $75 per entry.
II. I agree to submit all of the following additional materials by Friday, March 10, 2017:
A. Information sheet about the project giving a description and a map showing the location of the entry. B. Photo or drawing of the completed project.
III. The project must showcase a change in shape, form, or function of the residence, and not have been shown to the public before. IV. The purpose of the Tour of Remodeled Homes is to increase
exposure of our participating members; to promote a more professional image and increase our credibility; to benefit the public by stimulating an interest in remodeling existing homes; and to showcase our quality workmanship and new products while increasing the membership of the Remodelers Council. V.
I agree to provide at least two people, with one person in each of the remodeled areas, the full hours of the Tour of Remodeled Homes.
VI. I agree not to open the entered home to the public prior to the Tour of Remodeled Homes. VII. I agree that the Remodelers Council and/or the Home Builders Association of Lincoln will not be held liable for any loss due to theft, vandalism, or personal injury. VIII. This contract is null and void unless at least five projects are entered by March 10, 2017.
Guidebook advertising opportunities are also available! The 2017 Tour of Remodeled Homes Guidebook will be distributed to the public at each Tour Entry and will be available via an online flipbook on www.hbal.org for approximately one year after the event. Cost to advertise is $200 for Remodelers Council Members with a Tour Entry or $400 for Remodelers Council Members without a Tour Entry. Contact Jennie Korth at jennie@hbal.org for more information.
