Chairperson’s Message by Rick Willet
As we have been watching the Winter Olympics and now head into March Madness for basketball, what is it that separates the elite teams or individuals? Many items of course. But one of the main items is setting goals and hitting them. You have to visualize what you want to achieve. Charting the course of what changes you want to implement are key to achieving greatness. We are all guilty of thinking we don’t have time to write down goals and implement a plan of how to reach them. That was always an excuse I used. But look at most any great team, and you will usually find they have a clear vision and mission that is shared with their team. They also have a written plan on how to accomplish their goals. Here are some tips to implementing goals:
March Meeting
Lunch at Penelope’s Lil’ Cafe 4724 Pioneers Blvd followed by a Tour of Architectural Glassart 4035 S. 48th Street
• Define it and write it down! • Be very specific! This creates clarity on how you will accomplish it. The goal has to be easily measurable to be effective. • Keep your changes to no more than 3 at a time. If you set 2 or 3, you will probably accomplish 2 or 3. If you set 5 or more, you will probably accomplish none or maybe 1. • Put a scheduled deadline to complete the goal. Without a timeline, it will be easy to keep putting it off until later. • Designate someone to be your Accountability Executive. This person would check in with you to make sure you are spending time focusing on accomplishing and finishing your goals. Upcoming events: • Wednesday, March 7 at Penelope’s for lunch followed by a tour of Architectural Glassart. • Monday, March 12, Chili Cookoff at the Lincoln Firefighters Reception Hall.
