Chairperson’s Message by Rick Willet
Wow, here we are at the beginning of November already. Years just keep flying by at a very fast pace. It has been a very busy fall at work and at HBAL. We just attended the Sporting Clay Shoot at Oak Creek Sporting Club which was the largest HBAL has ever had both in attendance and sponsorship. It was a beautiful day and very well organized. We always get to meet some new members and fellowship with others as well. Thank you to the wonderful sponsors who make this event so special. I was sad to hear the Santa Cop project was cancelled, but we all still have an opportunity to give to those in need. Remember to bring coats, other warm clothing or blankets to the HBAL office for donating to the Peoples City Mission. We will also be collecting mittens, gloves, scarves and hats for local elementary school children at the Remodelers Council Christmas Party in December. What a great tour of HUDL we had at our last Council meeting. It was very interesting seeing a different approach of running a business office without office spaces. Our tour guides were excellent in describing how each person has a unique setting where they can perform their best. And seeing all the different rooms and open spaces this business has created to give each employee an opportunity to find an area that works for them was intriguing. Great design and architecture were involved in creating an excellent working environment. Thanks to HopCat for the excellent meal before the tour. Our next meeting is November 7 at the HBAL office. American Electronics will be presenting “Simple Smart Homes.”

In 2001, the Home Builders Association of Lincoln was asked by an employee of the Building & Safety Department to help build a ramp for a fellow city employee. Because the need was temporary, it was decided the best approach was to purchase a lightweight modular aluminum ramp which could be assembled on site and, once the ramp was no longer needed, it could be removed and stored for future use. Since then, the ramp has been used numerous times by those in need and Remodelers Council members are quick to volunteer the man hours required to make it happen. If you know of someone in need, please contact Jennie Korth or Michaela Harrison at 402-423-4225.
