Biography for State Senator Jim Stamas PROFESSIONAL Sen. Jim Stamas was elected to the Michigan Senate in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. Stamas serves as chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Stamas is the owner and former general manager of Pizza Sam’s, the eatery in Midland the Stamas family has owned for more than 50 years. Prior to running the family business, Stamas was selfemployed as a realtor and was project manager at Case Systems. Before serving in the Senate, Stamas served three terms as state Representative and two terms as Midland County commissioner. He also was a Midland Township trustee from 1997-2004 and has served on the boards of the Midland Downtown Development Authority, Midland Downtown Business Association and Midland County Planning Commission. Stamas served his country honorably in both the U.S. Army and the Michigan National Guard. As a member of the Michigan House of Representative, in recognition of Jim’s effectiveness and leadership, his colleagues elected him Majority Floor Leader for the 96th and 97th Legislatures. As Majority Floor Leader, Stamas was charged with setting the overall agenda and direction for the House of Representatives. EDUCATION Stamas holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northwood University and an associate degree in business management from Delta College. PERSONAL Jim and his wife, Marsha, have been married for more than 30 years and have a daughter and a son. 20
