This issue marks the 11th birthday of The Healing Springs Journal. Over the years, I have seen both the healing and publishing communities go through shifts. Change is inevitable, nature shows us this many times over. Nature also shows us that to grow taller in the visible world one has to also go below the surface and deepen the supporting roots.

Advertising and story deadline for June-July issue is May 3
So, it is time to look at the Healing Spring’s roots. Prior to starting the journal, I was searching for a career in the healing arts. One day I ran into Mark Tolstrup, and he suggested that the healing community needed a newsletter of sorts. I actually had the skills to do that. In addition, I had recently been offered a free computer loaded with Quark and Photoshop; the software needed for desktop publishing. I called my friend and the computer was still sitting in his car waiting for a home. Next I called, Michael Wayne and told him what I had planned. He invited me to join a gathering of practitioners to share my idea. I attended that meeting and most everyone there decided to support the effort by advertising in the inaugural issue. The Healing Springs Journal was born. It flowed, I followed, and it’s worked out perfectly. To this day, that is how each issue comes together. While successfully allowing The Healing Springs to create itself, I have read about various techniques to make business grow and attract clients; advertisers in our case. Few of the methods feel in alignment with the roots of the journal. Rather than manufacture a scheme, let’s give the advertisers what they need by supporting the ones we feel drawn to. Earlier his morning, I sat down in a field basking in sunshine. A quote from E.B. White flashed through my mind; “…I arise in the morning torn between the desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.” While in the arms of the sun, it feels like nothing can be improved. Yet, while sitting at my computer, I’d like to see a lot of changes. How I most want to improve myself is stated best when Thoreau says “Simplify, Simplify, Simplify.” This means using fewer things, of course. It also speaks to ignoring pretenses, letting go of unsupportive situations, getting to the heart of matters and more. Simple is not necessarily easy, but it is pretty straightforward; give attention to what you want in the world, disregard what you don’t. Our society often focuses on what’s holding us back. As you grow, consider your roots and appreciate what’s holding you up. . In peace and awe,

Healing Springs I # 67 April—May, 2013
Beginning late April thru August, a wild foods plant identification wellness series will take place at various upstate New York locations titled - Weeds, Leaves, Seeds & Shoots : Balance your Budget – Steward the Land ™. Each class will have hands-on out door nature experiences that traverse placid woods and field landscapes. This educational program will teach on the edible wild foods, many of which are invasive species plants, as a form of fresh local nutrition, sustainable plant preservation, safe plant identification, and how-to prepare into a table food. Since nature dictate’s our bounty, plants discussed may vary over the months. What this does is offer an impression for a systematic way of living in the flow of the seasons, gently suggesting one to consider a flexible consciousness around food availability. In addition to the outdoor walk, indoor group discussions revolve around what our responsibilities are in supporting and nourishing the land that feeds, this, is interfaced with the healthy eating principles of the www.letsgo.org and the qualities of energetic constitution models. Class registration starts at 12:30 and begins promptly at 1:00 p.m., ending at 5:00 p.m., are sponsored by and takes place at the following New York businesses: Shawangunk Ridge Farm in New Paltz, Harmony Hill Lodging & Retreat Center in East Meredith, Margaretville Garden Fest and the Fairview Library in Margaretville, Mauer’s Mountain Farms, Clear Images and Table on Ten in Bloomville, Roots Brewing Co. in Oneonta, Mt. Local Practitioner Releases Documentary Part II of a Documentary Trilogy, titled “The Path: Beyond the Physical”, investigates consciousness, the phenomenon of out-ofbody experiences and remote viewing to be shown at Saratoga Arts Center in May 2013
Can you imagine how empowered you would feel, and what you could accomplish with the confidence that you would have if you could know without a shadow of a doubt why you are here? You Can! Using a unique process called scientific hand analysis, I can show you your life purpose and creative gifts, as well as what gets in your way of fully expressing those things.
Local mental health counselor and holistic healing practitioner April Hannah of Hannah’s Healing is pleased to announce the release of her new documentary film, The Path: Beyond the Physical, the second documentary of a trilogy investigating topics about life after death, out-of-body experiences, multiple-dimensions, remote viewing, and all the realms that fall beyond outside of our physical bodies. The Path: Beyond the Physical follows the 2009 release of The Afterlife, a film produced by April Hannah, and directed by Michael Habernig, a filmmaker from Kingston, NY. “The Path: Afterlife” featured local area practitioners Brenda Jenks, Hillary Raimo, Carol Von Kaenel, Dr. Beth Netter and Dr. Robert Weissburg. On May 22, 2013, 100 people will have the opportunity to privately screen The Path: Beyond the Physical at the Saratoga Arts Center.

investigation of out-of-body experiences. All of the Path Documentary DVD Series will be showcasing the knowledge and opinions of many experts like the former President and Executive Director of the Monroe Institute in Faber, VA, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational and research organization dedicated to the exploration of human consciousness. “When compared to our first film Afterlife, Beyond the Physical is a much more in-depth film, getting detailed insights into the science of OBE’s and Remote Viewing from our experts, whereas Afterlife just scratched the surface into the science of consciousness.” states April Hannah, producer of the trilogy. Having moved her private practice from Catskill, NY to 77 Van Dam street in Saratoga Springs this year and having a large portion of the experts in the film of The Path: Afterlife living in and around Saratoga County it felt natural to bring this film to the Saratoga Arts Center, explains April Hannah. “The Path: Beyond the Physical” is currently available for sale on DVD at www.thepathseries.com. In the coming months, the film will be available at select retailers, catalog companies and also available in a streaming/download format. The Path: Afterlife is available for sale on www.Amazon.com and www.thepathseries.com and is available for video download at www.GiaiamTV.com. For those who want to skip paying the shipping prices Malika International Boutique, INC is exclusively selling both Beyond the Physical and The Afterlife in her store on 10 Phila Street Saratoga Springs, NY. HEALING AS A PROCESS OF
The Soul
by Kim Lohret ealing is not a one-time event, in which a troublesome symptom or annoying life circumstance is removed, allowing us to continue on with our lives in the same way as before. Healing is a process of the soul. It is a journey that takes us down many paths, through many lifetimes, leading us to the people, places and events that will most assist us in releasing the fears and false beliefs that keep us from remembering the fullness of who we are.
These defenses act like templates, drawing us similar experiences again and again, so that we can learn what we came here to learn.
We are all beings of light and love.
These are not tragedies or accidents of fate, but choices made in wisdom and compassion. They are the gifts we gave ourselves. From a higher perspective, we saw what we were capable of, and we chose the road that would get us there. When we look at those things that repeatedly cause us pain, we can see the seeds we’ve planted.
H
There is no destination in the journey of healing, just as there is no destination in the cycle of life in the natural world. There is only growth and the expansion of who we are. As we travel along the path of healing, we become more accepting of the challenges that are presented to us, more trusting of the perfect unfolding of the divine plan, and more patient and compassionate towards others on their personal journeys. In my work as an energy practitioner, I see clients who have learned how to block or redirect their energy, shutting themselves off from their grandness and from others. They’ve forgotten, for a time, their true nature as powerful creators and beings of light. These blocks, which eventually manifest as pain or disease in the body, usually have a basis in painful, childhood experiences – times when they experienced fear, abandonment, invasion, betrayal or rejection. The initial pain, being too difficult to face, became defended against. Walls were built. The body, as a perfect guide, suffered in response, revealing the exact nature of the challenge. As with many healing modalities, energy work can help us identify the places where our essence is not flowing freely – the configuration of our walls. But rather than seeing these walls as obstacles or wounds, I prefer to think of them as soul choices.
I’ve watched this process unfold for my clients – seen how a young woman who experienced abandonment in early childhood is abandoned in relationship or fired from her job, attracting abandonment in all its forms, again and again, as an adult. Or how a man who was controlled by an over-bearing mother continues to live out the controlling, relationship dynamics with his spouse or employer.
In this world of duality, there’s immense potential for growth, but it’s helpful to have something to push against. It’s the roots that dwell in darkness that propel a plant upward toward the sun. Without suffering at the hands of another, how can we experience the stunning freedom that offering forgiveness brings? How can we learn to fly upon the transcendent feeling of trust if there’s no challenge to rise above? Or the steady peace of patience if everything comes easily? These are the things the soul values. Self-love. Compassion. Trust. Patience. Forgiveness. They are the true treasures we gather along the path of healing. Kim Lohret is an energy practitioner and author, working with clients in the areas of childhood wounding and spiritual reconnection. Her first novel, A Promise Remembered, is available now at Crossroads Gallery, Jay Street, Schenectady or on Amazon.com. For more information, you can visit her website at www.kimlohret.com.

During an IET® Session the person lies fully clothed, face up on a massage table. A session lasts approximately one hour. At the start of the session the client is asked; “If you could use the IET® energy to heal, shift, change, clear, empower, expand or manifest anything, what would it be?” The IET® practitioner works in a series of gentle hand positions energizing, triggering, releasing and integrating energy blockages. Pure joy is the natural byproduct of the clearings created by IET® sessions. “What you may feel after a session: The effects of the session may continue to integrate for up to several days following the treatment. During this time you may feel energized, light, focused, tired, unsettled, or somehow have a sense of being in transition. Thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations may continue to surface as your body adjusts to its new energetic patterns. All of these experiences are good and normal parts of the integration process. Be sure to rest, drink extra water, and be kind to yourself, especially over the next 48 hours. Listen to what your body is telling you and take time to reflect on any experiences or insights that arise.” Joyce Willson, RN, BSN Reiki Master Teacher in Usui and Karuna®Reiki, IET® Master Instructor and owner of The Art of Reiki, was introduced to IET® by Stevan Thayer in 2010. She discovered a passion, connection and deep respect for his work. Joyce noticed that the effects of working in this high vibrational energy began to allow for many personal shifts and releases that were buried deep within. As this clearing process began, feelings of pure joy started to evolve…something that was missing from previous self –healing work. This energy of lightness and freedom allowed for the continuation of evolving into the person I AM this day. Joyce takes great

Vegetables, roots and fruits! A variety of colorful, phytonutrient dense, fiber-packed plants. Challenge yourself to eat from every color of the rainbow every day. The majority of your “plate” should be vegetables, with some fruit. Right now my winter coffers harbor baby kale, bok choy, red leaf lettuce, carrots, celery, scallions, bell peppers, kiwi, apples, honey bell tangelos, lemons, limes, avocado, shitake mushrooms, and ginger. The freezer stores frozen berries, Acai puree, mango, cauliflower, broccoli, peas, snap peas, green beans, and diced squash. Everything I mentioned can be quickly prepared and incorporated into a meal or snack. I often reach into the pantry for shallots, onions, garlic and sweet potatoes when preparing my menu. Green’s drink powder. It took me some time to find comprehensive powders that did not taste like grass. I find it useful for after exercise or between meals, as needed. It can fill in the nutritional gaps on busy days, and is helpful when I travel. Consumed 20-30 minutes prior to a meal it can be a healthy way to curb an appetite. Nuts and seeds. Packed full of essential fatty acids and other healthy fats, protein and fiber. They are also packed with calories, so moderation is called for; especially when weight loss or maintenance is a goal. I soak and dehydrate my nuts and seeds, on low heat, to maximize the nutrient value and improve digestibility. Nuts and seeds are best stored in the refrigerator or freezer to slow the creep towards rancidity. Nut butter is another staple. Try some with apple slices when looking for a quick and healthy option. You can easily make your own nut and seed butters, and get creative in the process—my last nut butter combined almonds, walnuts, dates and spices. Flaxseed, chia seed, sesame seed. Another source of essential fatty acids and other healthy fats; they also represent the family of phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens are not estrogens, but they do resemble the molecular structure of an estrogen Consequently, they fit into the cell receptor site and gently mimic some favorable estrogen-like activity. While doing so they also tend to block the effects of stronger estrogens from the environment. Ground flaxseeds provide a nice source of fiber. Chia seeds, when soaked in liquid, also provide additional fiber. Homemade almond milk is a. useful as a dairy substitute and a wonderful base for smoothies. One-third cup of almonds contains 100 mg of calcium and 110 mg of magnesium.
Coconut milk (not the milk substitute found in the dairy section). I like to use this in traditional recipes (right now the crock pot is stewing a Thai coconut curry with turkey and vegetables, and last night I used a little in my mashed cauliflower), in smoothies, and anything else I can think of. Yum. Again, variety in food choices is good, including in the world of healthy fats. Coconut represents a different type of fat, composed of medium chain fatty acids. My pantry also includes coconut oil and coconut manna. Kombucha, and other fermented foods. Fermented foods support friendly gastrointestinal flora and are often easier to digest. We also have kefir and sauerkraut in the refrigerator this week. Other examples of fermented foods include yogurt, tempeh, miso, natto, kimchee, and various lacto-fermented vegetables. Hemp oil, hemp seed and hemp powder. A great source of the antiinflammatory omega 6 essential fatty acid, GLA, hemp complements the higher doses of omega 3 EFAs found in therapeutic doses of fish oil. I like the fact that the oil is usually organic, and that one TBSP contains 500 mg of GLA. It can be consumed straight up, made into a salad dressing, drizzled over vegetables, or incorporated into a smoothie. The seed provides an additional source of fiber. Hemp powder is a useful non-grain, non-dairy based protein powder. Eggs, from cage free hens fed with a natural diet, and allowed to forage (range free). Eggs are nutrient dense, and not to be feared when used in moderation.chicken and eggs

Fish, from our local Fishmonger. If possible aim for two to three servings per week of fatty, cold-water varieties, such as salmon, trout, mackerel, tuna, sardines, herring and cod. I usually have a jar of herring in my refrigerator, but I keep each serving size small due to the sodium content. Left overs! Tomorrow I am looking forward to a berry smoothie for breakfast, and Paleo turkey meatballs, mashed cauliflower (made with garlic, coconut milk, and olive oil), and baby kale sautéed with shitake mushrooms and shallots for lunch. If I add in some yellow bell peppers during the day I will have eaten from all of the colors of the rainbow. Ann Carey Tobin, M.D., FAAFP, is a board certified family physician. St. John’s Wort:
Good for More Than Just Depression
by Larry Malerba, DO, DHt n this age of antidepressant overprescribing, popular herbal preparations of St. John’s Wort have become an excellent first line of defense in mild depression for those concerned about pharmaceutical side effects. But did you know that a diluted homeopathic form of St. John’s Wort is highly useful for a wide variety of additional health-related problems? Homeopathic Hypericum perforatum, named for the Latin genus and species of the plant, is effective for many conditions that involve nerve injuries and puncture wounds.
I
I remember my first experience with Hypericum in medical school. A woman with chronic arm pain resulting from a severe injury to her “funny bone” (a large nerve exposed at the elbow called the ulnar nerve) consulted the physician with whom I was doing a preceptorship. Previously an accomplished guitar player, she had endured years of pain and, in spite of surgery to the nerve, was no longer able to perform. The doctor prescribed several doses of homeopathic Hypericum and, within a few weeks, she experienced a 50% reduction in pain. This simple case example illustrates the most common indication for Hypericum— injuries to nerves.

Healing Springs I # 67 April—May, 2013
There are a number of areas of the body that are rich in nerves, most notably the fingertips, tailbone, and eyes. Because of the high density of nerve endings in these areas, they can become very painful when injured. We all know how painful an injury as minor as a paper cut can be. The good news is that cuts, bruises, and crush injuries to the fingertips will respond quite nicely to homeopathic Hypericum. Just a few doses can help reduce pain and speeding the healing process. A common feature of nerve injuries is that pain often radiates along the nerve starting from the site of the injury. An example of this type of nerve injury occurs when a person falls and lands on his or her tailbone. The tip of the spine, or coccyx, is essentially where the spinal cord ends, and injuries to this area can be very painful. I was once consulted by a young man who had severely injured his tailbone. He reported years of suffering, primarily in the form of nerve pains that radiated from his coccyx down both legs. His condition had turned something as basic as walking into a painful experience. Periodic doses of Hypericum over the course of several months rendered him virtually pain free. Likewise, a direct injury to the eyeball that results in sharp, sticking, nerve-like pains may respond well to Hypericum. In such cases, it is very reasonable to take a few doses of Hypericum in quick succession followed by a prompt medical evaluation in order to rule out potential complications and ensure a safe recovery. The other main indication for Hypericum is for the effects of puncture wounds. Whether the injury is from a needle, a nail, a splinter, a shard of glass, or an insect stinger, the administration of a few doses of Hypericum in the initial phase of such injuries is a good precaution to take in order to prevent pain, inflammation, and further complications. Washington St. Glens Falls, NY 518-798-4047 depending on the type and extent of injury, a physician should be consulted if infection is suspected or if problems persist. I once saw a woman who complained of chronic nerve pain radiating down her leg. She was certain that the pain had begun after she was given an epidural injection to manage pain during labor and delivery. Here, we see an interesting conjunction of Hypericum indications, a puncture wound via injection administered to a nerve center of the body, the spinal cord. Thankfully, periodic doses of Hypericum resulted in the complete disappearance of her pain within a couple of months. The very same conjunction of circumstances occurs during routine dentistry. Lidocaine injections are used to block nerves innervating the roots of teeth. This modern anesthetic miracle can prevent dentistry from being a harrowing experience, but the aftermath can be painful. It is not that uncommon that this type of dental anesthesia can lead to chronic symptoms like facial numbness, tingling, and pain associated with the location of the injection. This is why I recommend a couple of routine doses of Hypericum to my patients to be taken immediately after completion of dental visits in order to prevent such complications. For the same reasons, I also recommend it after tooth extractions and root canals. It should be noted that homeopathic Hypericum perforatum is not the same as herbal St. John’s Wort and neither is it a nutritional supplement. Herbal and homeopathic forms of St. John’s Wort have different indications and different guidelines for their usage. Another difference is that homeopathic Hypericum comes in very diluted form and is FDA approved and regulated. This article offers only a brief introduction to some of the uses of this wonderful medicine. It’s reputation for safety and effectiveness is well known.

A Gnostic Spiritual School for our Time by Marietta Millet ave you ever wondered who you really are? Have you, like most of us, found many different answers? Do you still wonder what the purpose of your life really is?
H
“No teacher or master stands between the dedicated seeker and the Light. Each person follows the path in self-authority at his own pace.”
Many of us face these questions, and answers are provided by many different entities and organizations that want to help. The School of the Golden Rosycross, also wants to help, and offers this help in a variety of ways. This help is especially useful for those who sense that the real meaning of our lives lies beyond this material world of opposites with which we are so familiar.
Its purpose is to be of service to seekers, to show people the liberating possibilities that exist in life?the possibilities that each person actually has in his or her own hands to connect with the original divine nature. The tiny spark that offers this potential connection lies in the heart of each person and, once ignited, can be the basis for neutralizing the earthly nature so that there is space for being connected again with the divine nature. If this re-connection is indeed possible?and it is?then we require a means of understanding the difference between our familiar world and the divine nature to which we aspire. More importantly, we require a means of bridging the divide between the two. This information has always been available to humanity, often in texts with the true knowledge of the path of return veiled in symbolic language?the ancient Chinese wisdom of Lao Tzu, the teachings of the Buddha, the Hermetic writings, the Greek wisdom as expressed by Plato, the Bible and the early gnostic Christian texts, the Baghavad Gita, writings of Master Eckhart and Jacob Boehme, and classical Rosicrucian texts such as The Alchemical Wedding of Christian Rosycross, for example. The School of the Golden Rosycross begins its help by explaining texts from the universal wisdom in a way that provides prac-
tical advice to the seeker of today. More importantly, it goes beyond that assistance by fostering an ever-closer connection between the soul and the divine nature through Temple services, conferences, and gatherings where Light is experienced in unison with others.
No teacher or master stands between the dedicated seeker and the Light. Each person follows the path in self-authority at his own pace. The Light itself is the teacher and the direct knowledge resulting from the Light is called Gnosis – knowledge of God. Gnosis is a radiation, a spiritual Light. The goal is to connect the renewed human soul with the true spirit of God through Gnosis. The philosophy of the School of the Golden Rosycross is not only a philosophy; it shows a way of life which, if followed, leads to transfiguration, the reunification of body, soul and Spirit. It is not something to be taken on authority. It is something to learn for oneself, through experience. A true understanding of Gnosis comes only from experiencing it as an everpresent spiritual power that is active both within us and also within the cosmos — a power that may lead us toward our true destination. The School of the Golden Rosycross is the American branch of the international gnostic spiritual school Lectorium Rosicrucianum that offers assistance in following the original Christian initiation path of transfiguration. Currently it is active in 36 countries with 60 conference centers and about 130 city centers. Literature of the founders, Jan van Rijckenborgh and Catharose de Petri, is available through Amazon. There is a conference center of the Lectorium Rosicrucianum in Chatham, NY at 21 Bushnell Avenue. Public activities are held there on a regular basis. Simplifying your life may sound unrealistic or overwhelming. But, like any worthwhile project (YOUR LIFE!), if you break it down into small chunks and call on some support, the rewards are enormous: living life according to your own definition of success. More ease. More joy. And everyone around you will feel it and benefit. Here are the steps to get there that I’ll be writing about: 1. Get in touch with how you want to BE in your life. 2. Figure out what you’re putting up with that drains you and fix them, one at a time. 3. Recognize the inner critic for what it really is (fear) and learn how to tame it. 4. Tweak your language so you speak from a more empowered and authentic place. 5. Create reserves of time to allow for self-care and serendipity.
Here’s one small chunk to get you started. Try it. I bet you’ll like it.
Mind Mapping Your Values
1
Think about someone you consider a hero. They can be a family member, celebrity, alive or not, a cartoon character, historic figure.

2
Write their name in the middle of a paper and circle it. Now, start to write words that pop into your head that you associate with them – no over-thinking! Let it flow.
3
Connect the words with more circles. Words will trigger more words. Stick with it for at least 10 minutes to give your mind time to get into the groove. This is a Mind Map.
4
Now, look at these words and triple circle the words that really resonate with you, that feel right. These are your values. (Not your morals – those are culturally handed down. Some may overlap. This is your hero because they live their life guided by a set of principles that resonate with you, too.
5
Now, make a list of what you do on a typical day, any day. Leave room on the right side of the paper for a word column. In this column, write down a value from your Mind Map that you are honoring by what you do on the left side. Ex: Take kids to school. Value: family.
6
Finally, think of one thing to do this week that is driven by a value. Be very specific about when you will do it and write it down. Ex.: Value: connect Action: call an old friend.

Ask the ractitioner
"I’m having some trouble with my libido, any suggestions?"
Homeopathy; Jerome Pindell This is a question that comes up occasionally and is one that bears some careful consideration. What is your definition of 'libido', to start. The common understanding relates to the sexual drive. While this can and is a legitimate understanding, there is so much more to the operation of the libido in the human condition. At its most mundane level, it could relate to a hormonal disturbance. There are many factors that can be the cause of this, from heredity to environmental causes. If you have explored this, preferably with an environmental specialist familiar with the effects of plastic's contamination and have had your hormones tested, other simple areas bear question. Age IS a factor, as hormone levels change and there is a significant causal relationship here. Sometimes even a sedentary lifestyle will lower libido. Exercise can change that. Absent these factors then that would lead me to the next line of inquiry. Have you had a significant emotional trauma prior to having noted this change in your life? A loss of a partner, regardless of cause, can and does play significant role in disturbing the functional libido. Finally, there is the psycho-spiritual aspect, not only of the libido function, but of the entire nature of your being as it is manifest in connection to the libido. As can be seen throughout history, sublimation of the human imperative to connect in meaningful ways with other human beings can distort the purpose and desires of those outlets. Emotional connection is a significant aspect of a healthy libido. It also needs to be understood from the perspective of the spiritual growth and development of the individual. The libido is only one aspect of the imperative to create, to manifest, and to open to another. It is a portal to deeper explorations of the satisfaction with the self.

When we seek sexual gratification to satisfy an underlying loss of self respect or self love or identity, we will pursue the sexual, but it quickly looses energy in the face of its failure to meet our underlying needs. Our drive will turn us in the direction of addressing these more important issues, but we can direct our mind away from these questions when we do not want to face the serious truths. These are just a few avenues for exploration with which I have had success using homeopathy and / or hypnosis to assist in the journey of restoring balance. After all it is a human imperative to seek answers and balance.

Oriental Medicine; Gregg St Clair In Chinese Medicine we look at the sex drive as a marker of health and longevity. A low sex drive raises red flags for potential health problems. As we age our libido naturally reduces and there are many techniques to keep the libido active and healthy. You don’t mention age or gender so I’ll have to speak generally about both. Problems with libido can come from either a physical or energetic place. The first thing you want to do is eliminate any physical problems. Things like high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and heart disease can effect arousal and lubrication. For men the prostate and urination are markers; for women the menstrual cycle, menopause and complications such as fibroids can all cause issues. I highly suggest a full checkup from your MD or gynecologist to eliminate guessing. If no physical problems show up you have to look at the energetic. These tend to be mental and emotional. When we meet someone new there usually aren’t any problems with arousal. But if you are in a long term relationship, keeping your sex life fun, healthy and juicy can be very difficult. It’s said that couples fight usually about kids, money and sex. The problem in that case is you become a family and who wants to have sex with a family member? The results could definitely affect the libido.
Perhaps a family counselor or sex therapist would help to sort out where you are and your relationship. We are hard-wired to have sex. That’s why it feels so good! It is possible to have a full healthy sex life if you are in relationship, but like everything else, it takes work. If we do the same things and they aren’t working you need to look for other things. One of the best ways to become excited is to take sex out of the bedroom and try something new. Intimacy is about safety, eroticism is about danger! Think about what it would be like if you had both! I work on all aspects of the reproductive system including the menstrual cycle and fertility with acupuncture and herbs. Problems with libido give us a lot of information about the oveall health of a patient. In Chinese Medicine we have many herbs that are used specifically for the libido. Plus we’ve never separated the mind and body so we always need to integrate the mental and spiritual in with the physical. The best thing you can give to your libido is to be healthy. We need to work on our on personal improvement to have the relationship co-evolve to keep the sex drive alive. Sex doesn’t happen on weekends in the bedroom, it’s what happens at work, what you eat, how you sleep and if your partner unexpectedly cooks you a nice meal or offers to do the dishes. We need to move from foreplay to sexplay, or as I like to call it: Loveplay! I’ll leave you with some homework for your libido. Take the Five Senses: Sight, Smell, Taste, Hearing and Touch and think of stimulating ways to incorporate them into your sexplay. Hearing, for example might mean putting on some soothing music while relaxing, or, whispering something naughty into your parnters ear at a company dinner. Good Luck! Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling W by Steve Andersen hen the average person is asked about solar their immediate response is, “Those panels on a roof that make electricity.” Solar electric (aka solar PV) is the most common type of solar technology. In fact an article in the most recent ‘Healing Springs Journal’ (Feb-Mar ’13) described how solar electric works, its benefits, costs and installation information. But solar electric is only one type of solar technology. There are many different ways to capture the power of the Sun. One of the more recent types of solar technology that offers home and building owners an alternative to fossil fuel is the Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System. A Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System uses the energy from the Sun and the embodied energy of the earth to heat and cool a structure. This type of technology is totally different from solar PV. Solar PV converts the Sun’s photons into electricity. A Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling system captures the Sun’s energy using solar thermal collectors and then converts that energy into useable heat with a heat pump. Every one of us uses a heat pump in his or her homes; we just call it a refrigerator. How the actual physics
works is a little more indepth to explain in this setting. What most folks want to know is does a Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System work, will it save me money and, for the ‘Healing Springs Journal’ reader, will it contribute to helping heal the planet? The answer to those three questions is yes, maybe and yes. Yes, the system works. It offers a very comfortable and evenly distributed heat, in an incredibly efficient manner. Typical heating systems work by igniting fossil fuels to 3,500?F to then heat a room to 70?F. A Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System produces 85? - 120?F to then heat a room to 70?F. Which one seems more efficient to you? The system will also cool in the summertime by running the system in reverse. Instead of extracting heat from the earth and pumping it into the house, we extract the heat from the house and pump it back into the earth. Additionally, a Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System will produce a home’s domestic hot water needs. Many people do not realize that their domestic hot water needs can account for up to 30% of their fuel bills per year. Unlike our electric bills that we can see every month in a chart, hot water costs get lost in our overall fuel needs. Will the system save me money? That depends on what type of fuel your home or building currently uses. If you heat with oil or propane, then the answer is yes. If you heat with natural gas or wood

then the answer is probably no. A Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System will cost about $950 - $1,200 a year to run. Oil and propane homes use on average $3,000+ per year in heating costs. Natural gas homes use $850 - $1,000 on average for heating. Average air conditioning costs in upstate NY range $150 - $250 per year. Will it contribute to helping heal the planet? A Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System uses electricity to convert the Sun’s energy into useable heat and air-cooling. If that electricity is produced by solar, wind or hydro then the answer is an emphatic yes. Some will argue though that if that electricity is produced with fossil fuels then it is still contributing to global climate change. But since a Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System produces 3 parts of energy for every 1 part of energy used then the system overall saves on the burning of fossil fuels for the same amount of heat. An easy way to overcome this dilemma is to always choose a renewable energy source for your electric needs.

A Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System for new construction, even in natural gas areas, is always an excellent choice. Even though the yearly energy expenditure will be about the same for a ‘Hybrid’ than it is for natural gas, the ‘Hybrid’ will also cool the house and create its hot water. Another added value is that the new home will only need to install one packaged system to create their heat, hot water and air-cooling. New construction taking the traditional route will have to purchase a heating system, a separate hot water system and a separate air conditioning system. There are some limitations to retrofitting a home for a Solar Hybrid Heating & Cooling System. In order for the system to have a reasonable payback period the home should have either radiant floor heat or forced air ductwork. Baseboard or radiators require high temperature heat, upwards of 180?F, for distribution purposes, which a ‘Hybrid’ system cannot produce. If the structure has central air conditioning and the ductwork is sized properly, then a ‘Hybrid’ system may be an option. There are very few full service solar companies in the USA. Most American solar companies today only install solar PV because that is where the bulk of the media support lies. Other countries though realize the value in evaluating each home or building specifically for its needs. If your heating bills are over $3,000 and your electric bills are around $1,000, which type of system would you be interested in? So what does a typical retrofit system cost and how much will it save me? The average 2,500 sq. ft. home that uses home heating oil at $4.02/gal may use 1,000 gallons or $4,020 per year on heating and hot water. A ‘Hybrid’ system will cost on average less than $24,000. Using a 5% inflation rate on heating oil, the system will pay itself back in 5.5 years and offer a total returned value of over $160,000 in 25 years. In contrast, the average home uses 7,000 - 8,000 kWh per year for electricity, at an average $.12 per kWh that comes out to $840 $960 per year for electricity. A solar PV system to cover this amount of electricity will cost on average approximately $8,500 $10,000. Using a 5% inflation rate on electricity, the system will pay itself back in 6 - 8 years and offer a total returned value of over $35,000 in 25 years.

Your Next Best Friend I'm Jackson, and I have a soft grey coat. Sitting on laps is my favorite hobby. A while ago I had to have all my teeth removed, so I need to eat wet food. Recently I was living the stray life, and I'm not sure how that happened. I missed people and having a family of my own. How about taking home a real sweetheart? I’m Codie, a 2-year-old bull terrier mix. I came to the humane society as a stray and X-rays showed she had a 12 inch pin in my leg that was sticking out both ends. Thanks to the help of several doctors, the pin was removed and I am a happy girl! I will sit when you walk up to say hi. Can I come to your house and tell you my story.

Cut Fear of Speaking Down to Size by Gary Stine eck or callout: The connection between you and the audience, which people often think has to be created, already exists. You can’t and don’t need to create what already exists. You only need to acknowledge and claim it.
D
Our sense of wholeness is seldom more challenged than when have to present ourselves in public. Talking to a group of people, whether it’s a formal or informal speech or presentation, can send us into a reaction of fear and self-doubt. Ironically, this seemingly threatening situation can holds the keys to our liberation and to restoring our sense of wholeness. I’ve worked on presentation skills with hundreds of individuals on a confidential, one-to-one basis, as well as in workshops and seminars. And I can say with complete assurance that there is simply no correlation between your intelligence or success and the degree of fear you may experience in front of an audience. The people I work with tend to be highly successful, intelligent and accomplished. They often expect to be protected from this crippling fear because of their success, intelligence, and accomplishment. Having seen such extremely powerful people humbled by fear of public speaking, I know they have no such protection.
Understanding Your Fear Moving beyond the crippling effects of fear requires understanding the true nature of the fear. Equally important is understanding that the experience you’re having as the speaker is unrelated to what’s being experienced by the audience. We routinely confuse the two, but they have nothing to do with one another. It’s crucial to understand that though we’ve come to assume otherwise, fear of public speaking is neither normal, nor natural. We weren’t born with this fear; it’s a product of our having learned to constantly compare ourselves, both to those around us, and to idealized versions of ourselves. Invariably, we feel we must be lacking some key element, something everyone has except us. The list of these lacking elements seems infinite, but the specific symptom is unimportant. Whether the perceived inadequacy is that we’re not smart enough, not good enough, not prepared enough, or not
experienced enough doesn’t matter. Though the list is infinite, the specific is almost always untrue. In the rare cases it may be true, it still doesn’t need to dilute the effectiveness of your talk or presentation in any way. Even more corrosive than any perceived inadequacy is the notion that speaker and audience are separate entities. We see the situation in terms of “I” and “them” or, if our fear is intense and the stakes are high, “I versus them.” We make the audience into an unfriendly monolith. No such separation exists except in our minds. The audience member wants nothing more than to feel like “we” when they’re watching a speech or presentation; the last thing they want is to feel separated from the speaker. The connection between you and the audience, which people often think has to be created, already exists. You can’t and don’t need to create what already exists. You only need to acknowledge and claim it.
Unwind... let healing begin.
Lynn Allison, DC 268-9542 Craniosacral Therapy, Chiropractic Saratoga & Schenectady, NY
Move Beyond the Content Putting together a compelling, concise presentation with specific goals, both for the speaker and audience, is important to your talk being well-received and to achieving your goals. But by themselves, these factors won’t satisfy an audience or let them be fully receptive to you and your message. What’s more, intense preparation focusing on what you’re planning to talk about won’t do anything to address fear of public speaking. Don’t expect it to. The sense of wholeness you may be seeking won’t be restored by intense preparation; it will be revealed by your willingness to see yourself as whole, and by your acknowledging and claiming your innate connection to the audience. That’s what they’re hoping to experience. If you try this, one of two things will happen: either your fear of public speaking will become manageable and will no longer cripple you, or over time, it will vanish entirely. Either way, doesn’t it seem like it’s worth a try? Gary Stine is a gifted coach and author with a powerful message. An experienced workshop leader and one-on-one coach, he has 17 years of experience working with top-tier leaders in a wide range of business and not-for-profit fields.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
When I first heard about EFT I was in great pain. Doctors speculated onset arthritis affecting my right knee, left hip, and lower back. Walking was difficult, stairs hurt, bending over was to be avoided at all cost. After a dire diagnosis and a hefty prescription for painkillers, I was cast out with prospects of a very grim future. This entire episode was deeply traumatic for me. My entire life, up to that point, had been a healthy one – vegetarian, yogamama, meditator, no major illnesses, broken bones, never a night in the hospital. This ever-mounting pain came on quickly. But I resolved not to lay down and die from the diagnosis.
by Stephanie Alston-Nero motional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a form of energy medicine, a self-healing method that is accelerating human healing. EFT is an evolution of ancient acupuncture blended with innovations in Western psychology. It is emotional acupuncture without the needles. With energy medicine, energy is the patient and the remedy.
E
One evening, at the height of my pain, I called out to the Universe, spoke an urgent, spontaneous language straight into the heart of the Divine, loosely translated I said, “You must send help now!” It was a prayer language, heart overflowing, tears blooming in my eyes. I didn’t attempt to bargain, I merely stated the facts. “I didn’t sign up for a life of pain. Let me try again. Let me get it right.” I have a heart-centered-no-nonsense way of communicating with the Divine and I expect the same in return.
EFT taps into pure Source Energy. It accesses the body’s electric that sings like an energetic choir all the events that ever happened to it. It provides the tools to remove the energetic debris caused by unresolved negative events and emotions from our past that often create and sustain our physical pain and emotional suffering.
I was not disappointed when the very next day I found out about EFT. I went to the website, downloaded their manual and followed the instructions, worked on my pain for 5 consecutive days, cloistered in my bedroom. When day 5 came I was out of pain. But not only that, I was free of a good deal of emotional baggage too.

“EFT balances the emotions and gently re-aligns the energy system, allowing chi (life source energy) to flow freely. When the chi is flowing, pain, dis-stress, dis-ease cannot exist.” I know techniques do not heal -- only love heals, love and the mystery of mercy. EFT balances the emotions and gently re-aligns the energy system, allowing chi (life source energy) to flow freely. When the chi is flowing, pain, dis-stress, dis-ease cannot exist. EFT is simple, easy to learn, and often produces permanent results. With myself, it gave me another chance to “get it right” - but this time from an energetic perspective. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. The body dies, the spirit (energy) lives on. We sometimes feel our suffering to be personal but often we are carriers for the pain of our family and ancestors. With EFT, I have learned to access the energy field that connects the living with the ancestors. By addressing the suffering of the family line, individuals often are healed of their ailments, as I was. All the women in my family have back pain. My mother has arthritis and knee problems. During those 5 days, I was able to access the family line, energetically disconnect the circuitry in my energy field that was creating and sustaining my pain, and gently re-align my energy system, allowing the chi to flow in places that were once programmed for pain. It sounds more complex than it is. EFT is a simple tapping procedure on certain powerful acupuncture points. It does the work described above as you effortlessly tune into the problem or the pain.
EFT works on a tremendous range of ailments. I used it on various family members, relieved my mother’s arthritis pain (over the phone), helped my sister manage pre-surgery stress, lowered her blood pressure, helped manage a friend’s pain who was dying of cancer – and did it all when I was new to the technique. Now, almost a decade later, I am a certified EFT practitioner with a practice in NYC and Stone Feather Retreat in Freehold, NY. Stephanie Alston-Nero is a certified EFT practitioner, artist, and shamanic healer. She conducts healing circles and private healing sessions in NYC, Stone Feather Retreat in Freehold, NY and internationally by Skype. 212-234-1369. Healing-History.com. Estrogen Toxicity
& the World We Live In
by Patricia Bowden-Luccardi LMT, CNMT. CTT reast cancer is not one disease but a complex group of diseases that occur in an ever-increasing environmentally toxic world. A growing body of evidence from experimental, body burden and ecological research indicates that there is a connection between environmental factors and breast cancer. There are over 85,000 synthetic chemicals on the market today with little to no regulations on the effect on human health.
B
Estrogen is a hormone closely linked with the development of breast cancer. Many breast cancers are fueled by estrogen, a hormone produced in fat tissue and stored in the body as a survival hormone. Numerous synthetic chemicals, called “xenoestrogens,” or “estrogen mimickers”, act like estrogen in our bodies. Over time, exposure will cause chronic health problems and may be a direct or indirect cause of cancer. One out of eight breast cancers are from environmental toxins.
Estrogen dominance or estrogen toxicity is a term that is the buzz on the natural and integrative health care websites. Everyone is suffering varying levels of estrogen dominance because there is so much of it in our environment. This condition is epidemic in the Western world, and especially the USA and Canada. If you think this is just a woman’s problem, think again. Men are not exempt form breast cancer. Over the course of a few decades, the childhoods of U.S. girls have been significantly shortened by the onset of early puberty. We know that early puberty is a risk factor for breast cancer and as other mental and physical problems. Many petrochemicals found in plastic bottles act as estrogens. Hormones in factory farmed meat and dairy are estrogenic. The most commonly used endocrine disrupters are Bisphenol-A (BPA), PCB’s, phthalates and agricultural pesticides. The Environmental Working Group has the best information on environmental toxins as the list is exhaustive and virtually impossible to avoid. www.ewg.org.

Finally, the dangers of these environmental toxins has been recognized by The World Health Organization (WHO) that recently released a joint report with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), titled: State of the Science of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs), which suggests a ban of endocrine disrupting chemicals may be needed to protect the health of future generations.

The joint study is the most comprehensive report on EDCs to date, highlighting a wide variety of health problems associated with exposure, including: non-descended testes, breast-, prostate- and thyroid cancer, nervous system defects, and ADD/ADHD. How do you lead a healthy lifestyle with as minimal a chemical exposure as possible and we rid our selves from excess estrogen besides the avoiding the obvious list of culprits? The good news is breast thermal imaging is a primary tool for prevention in approaching breast health. Not only does it show inflammation and tumor growth 8-10 years before conventional screenings before it becomes a problem but has the ability to show the heat associated with the backup of estrogens and xenoestrogens in the body. This is seen as the "leopard spots" or mottling on the breast and/or body. A decrease in estrogen can be visually be seen over a 6-12 months with the right nutrients, diet and lifestyle changes. How exciting that we can visually monitor the health of our breasts without radiation and harm and be proactive in our health?

To get started, increase organic vegetables and avoid GMO’s and foreign produce. Avoid caffeine. Never underestimate the power of exercise and sweating. The overlooked lymph system, the sewage system for metabolic waste that needs to be cleansed, as it can be pre-cancerous and lowers immunity. Think dry brushing, lymphatic massage, jumping on a rebounder or botanicals for lymphatic drainage. A sluggish liver cannot move estrogen out of the body. Do a liver detox. Iodine deficiency is rapidly emerging as a major risk factor for breast cancer, interfering with optimum breast and thyroid health. See the websites of Christine Northup MD for symptoms of estrogen dominance and advice in balancing hormones. David Brownstein MD. has numerous books and a blog on iodine deficiency and the breast-thyroid connection. For a comprehensive approach, identify through a thermogram your needs and if so, find an integrative health-care practitioner that can customize an estrogen detox program and balance hormones.
