She was interested in the arts (painting, music, and theatre arts) from a very young age. Her formal education for fine arts was only through eighth grade. Although her mother wanted her to be a medical doctor, Raj’s inner urges towards the fine arts took her in a different direction. She finished her under graduate degree majoring in Psychology and Philosophy. She finished her education with a masters degree in English literature. Raj pursued her burning desire to express herself in art form while she continued her academia. She was in eighth grade when her painting stood first all over India in a prestigious children’s art competition. To see some of her artwork visit; www.rajkang.com
Publisher’s Corner The greatest gift you can offer is a healthy, whole you For 15 years we have grown as a community through the pages of The Healing Springs Journal. While I facilitate putting together each issue, it is only because of the talented practitioners who write articles and advertise that there is anything to produce. We were the virtual community before the internet truly took us by storm. Thanks for coming along on the ride. In the first issue I wrote; “This is the beginning of a group journey. For the community, it is a visit back to our healing roots. For me personally, it is an adventure in learning how to live life authentically. New York, Saratoga especially, has a strong tradition in health. The Healing Springs will help maintain that history by creating a forum to unite wellness practitioners in informing the community of their choices. It is our mission to address the whole person by providing articles that allow the reader to make empowered decisions in relation to the wellness of their mind, body, spirit, environment and lifestyle.” Because I created The Healing Springs Journal as a sole proprietor, I have been able to make decisions based on my own conscience rather than the dictates of a corporation. One choice is to keep articles and advertising completely separate. If you find an article written by an advertiser that is by the author/advertiser’s choice alone. Anything else seems a conflict of interest and a disservice to you as the reader. Another decision made 15 years ago is to allow each journal to shape itself. Of course, I have to do the gathering and design. However, I do not have agendas for each issue, or preplanned themes. This allows what I call the ‘self-organization of life’ to put out what the readers need in the moment. Countless people tell me that it feels like each issue is addressing them specifically. We do that not with the use of analytics and algorithms, but by trusting the flow of life. The other day I read Chief Seattle’s letter to the president from 1852. 165 years ago wasn’t that long ago for how much has changed. This letter has been quoted often in short bits; the full-length version is amazingly touching and poignant. The following paragraph really caught my heart’s attention… “Your destiny is a mystery to us. What will happen when the buffalo are all slaughtered? The wild horses tamed? What will happen when the secret corners of the forest are heavy with the scent of many men and the view of the ripe hills is blotted by talking wires? Where will the thicket be? Gone! Where will the eagle be? Gone! And what is it to say goodbye to the swift pony and the hunt? The end of living and the beginning of survival.” That last sentence especially intrigues me; “the end of living and the beginning of survival.” For the modern human, this may seem preposterous. Aren’t we thriving with our conveniences? Weren’t the primitive Indians focused only on surviving? Yet, what if the opposite is true? Would this explain why so many people are afflicted with depression, lack of satisfaction or addiction today? After that last big snowstorm, I did a live Facebook video while trudging through the snow (I do this outdoors every Thursday to flood Facebook with nature. If you want to come along find me there). My friend, Virginia, asked “no snowshoes?” It’s true that I was not wearing any and my feet sunk deep with each step. I have snowshoes—thought I needed them back in Vail, Co where I lived through my 20s, as everyone there did. I also really liked gear at that time. Today I’d prefer having my feet unencumbered of metal shoes. Boil down the why of that and its my preference for direct experiences. For instance, I want to be with horses or lions, not watch them on a screen. In this scenario, it means I want to have my feet directly on the ground not with a snowshoe in between. This is also true in my spiritual practices. I like them simple and direct. To muddle them with techniques feels less sincere for me. I say, “To complicate is human, to simplify is spirit.” This is not true for others, which is what makes the human species interesting—our differences. Plato said, “As youth fades and time brings changes we may change many of our present opinions. So let us refrain from setting ourselves up as judge of the highest matter.” Whatever creates a feeling of love, life, peace, or connection is our best spiritual practice. Whether that’s sitting in the woods alone, or chanting with a thousand people. We are in the time that Chief Seattle spoke of; let us stay true to what fills us with life, as a swift pony and the hunt did for the Chief. The key is to be genuine to our inner impulse, for it is that self-organizing life force that, among everything else, puts together each Healing Springs. No one else can dictate what this will be for us as individuals, nor will we know what it is by simply thinking our way to it—it takes action and discernment. Think of it as an adventure in harmony between our distinct Soul and the collective of life. Trust and enjoy. photo by Deborah Neary

These lasers use low level light in the red, infrared and violet (not ultraviolet!) frequencies so that they are gentle and soothing, not harsh or penetrating. These lasers are unique in that they are developed by a former craniosacral therapist, so the emphasis is on unwinding the tension and stress held within the body and within the cells. This is based on the belief that the body has the ability to balance and rejuvenate itself if accumulated stress and tension are removed. There is a genuine-ness about Katrina which is a true comfort when navigating numinous work. Kicking the Sugar Habit by Suzanne Golub ugar is a complex part of our diet – we know we should limit our intake, but how do we give up the taste we love so much? We turn to sugar for all the wrong reasons – for energy, for comfort, out of boredom, and when we’re stressed, but we also consume a large amount of hidden sugar. The typical American diet is filled with hidden added sugars, including most processed and pre-packaged foods. Sugar has been shown to increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers. Then why do we find it so hard to give it up?
S
Natural sugars, such as those occurring in fruit, contain water and fiber, which slows the digestion in your body. Processed sugar contains no fat, fiber or protein, so your body absorbs it instantly (that’s why we get that sugar rush). When you eat processed sugar, the pancreas releases insulin to take the sugar out of the bloodstream. If you are eating a regular diet of sugar and processed food, your body is used to it, so when you eat sugar, the pancreas overcompensates and secretes a little extra insulin. That is when you experience a crash. So the high of the sugar rush and the low of the crash is the blood sugar roller coaster that wreaks havoc on your energy, your mood and your cravings, and keeps you coming back for more sugar. When insulin removes the excess sugar, it can deposit it in three places – the brain, the blood cells, or the muscles. But if your regular
intake of sugar has these receptors already full, then where does the sugar go? Unfortunately, it’s stored as fat and shows up on your abdomen, your hips and your thighs. And as long as you continue to eat sugar, that fat is not going anywhere.
So, how do you quit sugar once and for all?
1
Most of us reach for sugar out of habit. The first step is to eat mindfully and be in touch with whether you are actually hungry and if not, what is it that you are craving? Sometimes we just need some sweetness in our life, not actual sugar. Do you need a hug? Someone to talk to? Time for yourself? Drink a glass of water and wait a few minutes before you reach for that candy. Take a moment to be sure you are not just reaching for it out of habit.
2 3
So often our cravings occur because we are dehydrated. You need a lot more water than you think. You should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces every day. Dehydration can make you feel tired, cranky and crave sugar. Check your protein – are you getting enough? A high protein snack, like an apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter or a handful of almonds will cut your cravings. Be sure your diet includes enough high quality protein.

Are you a coffee drinker? Coffee can mimic the symptoms of sugar – feeling energized and then crashing. Coffee is also dehydrating. Limit caffeine intake to one cup in the morning and then switch to herbal or green tea. Are you a soda or other bottled beverage drinker? These are the worst culprits for added sugar. Cut back on your intake each day and replace with water with a slice of lemon or lime until you have eliminated all soda. Start drinking green juices. Loading up on fresh veggies helps cut sweet cravings.
5
Replace sugar with sweet veggies, fruit and spices such as squashes, peppers, strawberries, pears, and cinnamon. If you are desperately craving something sweet, try an apple or a bowl of sweet berries, or a couple of dates or apricots. Even a cup of sweet herbal tea can knock out a craving.
6
You will be amazed at the hidden sugar you find – yogurt, bottled sauces and dressings, low fat cookies, cereal. Take the time to read labels when you shop so you can make healthy choices.

EVERYTHING i s ENERGY A L o o k a t H e a l i n g To u ch E n e r g y T h e r a p y by Sue Van Hook usually begin my talks and workshops asking people to stand in a circle. In my right hand I have a ping pong ball with two electrodes. I place my index finger on one electrode and ask the person next to me to place an index finger on the other. When we all join hands the ball lights up and beeps. When I ask two people to let go of their joined hands, the flashing and beeping stops. We repeat this for several hand-to-hand junctions to demonstrate that there is energy flowing through our connected hands. Kids love this seemingly magical phenomenon!
I
Albert Einstein wrote, “ Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics!” In 1992, the late Bruce Tainio of Tainio Technology, an independent division of Eastern State University in Cheny, Washington, built the first electromagnetic wave frequency monitor in the world. Tainio determined that the average frequency of the human body during the daytime is 62-68 Megahertz (MHz). A healthy body frequency averages between 62-72 MHz. When the frequency drops, the immune system is compromised and illness or disease can take hold (Figure 1). %0,4<2@ %=5,6

where intention goes”. This is also true of other therapies that tap into the energetic body using the chakras, meridians and auric layers of the biofield. A practitioner working in trusting relationship that honors a client’s highest good can direct the flow of energy to areas that are congested, blocked or compromised in the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual bodies to restore the healthy vibrational frequencies of the organs, tissues, and fluids. During a Healing Touch session, the practitioner is able to invoke a physiological relaxation response in the client. It is a self-feedback response that includes relaxation at first. As the client relaxes, endorphins are released that regulate the immune system. In turn muscles relax and circulation increases elevating oxygen levels in the blood. Increased blood flow helps with transport of nutrients and building enzymes for healthy cell growth. Part of the feedback loop includes the regulation of hormones and the release of toxins. All of these components to the response promote healing in every cell of the body. At its simplest level, Healing Touch, can promote the body’s ability to heal itself while performing a Chakra Connection technique. Taken to higher frequencies, some Healing Touch techniques such as a Pain Drain, can reduce inflammation and lower pain levels. The Mind Clearing technique is effective in clearing headaches and mind clutter to bring clarity to an issue.

I’m sure you’ve heard the idiom, “He/she makes my blood boil!” It was Motz’ book that spoke healing truths to me in 2001 shortly after my year of cancer surgery and treatments. The connections she described were everywhere around me. A young man I knew was suddenly stricken with Reiter’s syndrome, a total body arthritis attributed to a bacterial infection, while going through a difficult divorce following the death of his father. This made sense to me when I applied Motz’ system of the emotion love represented by the weak force and stored in the synovial fluid in the joints. Without love, his strong young athletic body, shut movement down. Healing Touch sessions provided physical relief in stimulating the Relaxation response. When we were guided to breathe out the emotional trauma associated with both recent events, the healing happened quickly. The extreme example is shock. The brain shuts down to the onslaught of chemical messages resulting from severe trauma to the body. These neurotransmitter molecules are rejected by the brain, but are received in the cell membranes of other tissues (Candace Pert, Molecules of Emotion, 1999). They remain there until processed. While a person will always have the memory of the trauma, the emotional molecules associated with that trauma can be simply released using thought (Bruce Lipton, The Biology of Belief, 2007), intention and the breath. Nagging shoulders, knees, necks, or backs can finally heal when these emotions are intentionally released. Therapeutic grade plant essential oils play a formal role in the Healing Touch Program to facilitate the relaxation response and release of emotional memories through the limbic system that responds to scents. Oils have their own vibrational frequencies. Among the highest are frankincense at 147 MHz and rose oil at 320 MHz. In biblical times, frankincense was worth more than gold because of its effectiveness for healing. We are fortunate to have one the first adoptions of Healing Touch Energy Therapy in the country at Albany Medical Center. The welcome page on the hospital’s Healing Arts Program describes additional benefits for patients asking for complementary and alternative modalities to foster healing. Hands on energy interventions are used by more than 30,000 nurses in US hospitals. The Healing Touch Program provides a directory of practitioners at: www.healingtouchprogram.com.

Power Water
The of
by Diane Palma s a hairdresser, I talk to a lot of people weekly and I am amazed at how many people do not know about or understand the concept of taking a mineral bath. From my research, I would like to offer you what I have learned about Spa’s and their value and that the mineral waters of Saratoga that are equal to, if not superior, to any in the world! Millions of people worldwide are prescribed by their doctors, who specialize in Balneotherapy, to utilize the waters for healing and preventative care. SPA (“Sanas Per Aqua” or “health through water”) doctors from around the world, will tell you they have studied Saratoga Spring waters in their medical schools as examples of the best restorative waters on earth.
A
I will give you the (extreme) bullet version on the history of these mysterious and magical waters. This area is full of historians who have a deep and thorough understanding of Saratoga Springs. You could start at the Saratoga Springs Visitors Center should you decide to investigate this fascinating area of wellness. This is how I have come to understand the history. • Starting In the fourteenth century, Saratoga was originally inhibited by the Mohawk Indians, and the springs were known as the “Medicine Spring of the Great Spirit.” They believed this water to be sacred, and endowed with health-giving properties. They guarded the springs and kept its existence a secret from the invading white man for as long as possible. They used the waters to restore the health of their ailing members and to preserve the well-being of those who used them wisely. • The Memoirs of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences of 1783 was one of the first to publish research on the waters. • Then came Gideon Putnam he is known as the father of American Spas. He is credited for developing and promoting Saratoga Springs as a health resort. He created the layout of the streets and developed the Congress Spring in 1789. The mineral springs were used primarily as a drinking cure at that time. He died before he could complete his planned design for the city. • In the early 1900’s Spencer Trask devoted his end years as the visionary of the Saratoga Spa State Park as the greatest health resort in the world. He fought to preserve the mineral waters and sent a team out to gather the best practices from well-known spas around the world. It took well over 25 years from inspiration to completion combining his research on antiquity to modern day
14
spa practices, along with is love for art and nature, to garner the rights of Saratoga Spa State Park becoming the World’s Best Spa. He tragically died while traveling to deliver his final proofs. Trask remains with us daily through the Spirit of Life statue located in Congress Park. As a symbol of his vision and spirit his wife, Katrina, erected this statue of a woman holding a bowl of water and pine branches signifying the medicinal mineral waters of Saratoga and the healthy climate of the area, over a reflecting pool, like that at the Saratoga Spa State Park. • Finally, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was able to complete Trask’s vision in the 1930’s. NYS established that restoring and preserving the mineral springs was entirely feasible since it would make available and keep forever what is undoubtedly the most remarkable and medicinally valuable group of springs in the world. President Roosevelt promoted the creation of Saratoga Spa State Park as the finest medical and health resort in the world and place for “Health for all Americans.” The spa would offer health, happiness and increased years to persons who otherwise would not have them. • Dr. Walter McClellan was appointed as a member of the faculty of Albany Medical College as associate professor of medicine. He came to the Spa as the Medical Director in 1931 and retired in 1953 after 22 years of service. He conducted research on the mineral waters investigating their therapeutic effect on the human body. He determined how the waters were to be used, how long, how many times and the temperature to be consumed or bathed in for optimal healing and would use these waters prescriptively for specific conditions. Thus, Dr. McClellan become an international authority on mineral waters. His work was recognized all over the world and is still referred to in papers published in many languages. Because American colleges do not offer courses in balneotherapy, as do all European medical schools, he was eager to provide this knowledge to a small number of future doctors. The Spa’s therapy was the best in the world because it included a great deal more than the use of mineral waters. Its purpose was to introduce a person to a total life program which includes diet, patterns of sleep and rest, type and amount of exercise tailored for individual needs and provisions for both recreation and entertainment. The results actualized as the Saratoga Spa State Park. The origin of balneotherapy, the practice of using the waters of various springs, pools, rivers for treatment and cure of disease, predates recorded history. It seems that we take for granted the wellness that is naturally offered here in Saratoga Springs. Rated as the #1 city in NYS for Wellness in 2016 it’s affects are abundant. In our tag line Health is listed first for a reason. The Mohawk Indians knew the sacredness of this area from the fourteenth century. We need to heed their wisdom and use it wisely, for their knowledge has been researched and acknowledged scientifically worldwide. Welcome to Saratoga Springs: Health, History, Horses. Making a Difference by Wendy Ball he phrase “making a difference,” is often used in coaching along with other phrases such as "pushing the envelope" and "living a purpose driven life," and "be your best self," as part of the conversation about how to actively engage in creating change in the world. It is usually associated with wanting to be of service to others and struggling to know what that might look like.
T
People bring many things into this conversation. They bring their wish to be a good person and their anxiety that they are not enough. They bring deep religious/cultural conditioning like the Protestant work ethic that maintains a focus on doing rather than being. We live in a celebrity focused culture in which we are constantly bombarded by the next big name that promises to offer a sure path to success, healing, fulfillment... I'd like to offer to the conversation my conviction and my experience that making a difference to ourselves, others and to the collective does not have to be big. So many of us feel overwhelmed and powerless in the face of what is happening economically and politically in our country. It is hard to know what it would take to make a difference. In the face of the physical and emotional issues so many of us deal with it is hard to know where to start to make a difference or to trust that we actually can make a difference. I would like to suggest that every minute you spend engaged in a positive practice whether it is mindfulness, yoga, qigong....makes a difference. I dare to say that every minute you spend doing something that you love and that bring you joy makes a difference. Showing up for yourself by doing your practices makes you feel different. Others notice this in your energy and perspective and it has an impact. I may not be an impact that is verbalized. It may be subtle. But it is there and it is real. Showing up for yourself says something about your priorities and it does not go unnoticed. We get so many messages about showing up in a big way, about being extraordinary. If you want to make a difference but have not written a book or given workshops or have a website you may feel ordinary, even invisible. Being ordinary is not someMarie Marhan Dropkin, Certified Divorce Coach thing we like to do in our culture. We don't. Being truly ourselves is enough. Does it feel like a paradox? Can it be that the beginning and the most essential ingredient of making a difference to others and to the world is to be fully and unconditionally present to your own experience? I say it is. It is enough to experience and be the unique spark of the Divine that you are. It is out of your natural expression and sharing of your own being, your own truth, that you will behaves in a way that will make a difference to others.

We attach making a difference to qualities, e.g. being bold, as if it were a recipe or formula. I think it is more about being truly yourself. First, listen to yourself. Be deeply receptive. Response, or action, which is right or true will follow naturally. This is all that is needed. This will make a difference. Emotions HOW TO EXPLORE THEIR RICHNESS AND AVOID EXCESS
by Kate Kellman, MQT motions play an important role in Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM). According to CCM, there are two major causes for disease – environmental factors, or post-natal Qi, and excessive emotions which can cause energetic blockages in our bodies. What’s the difference, then, between healthy emotions and toxic ones? Emotions are what make us human, and they can be both beneficial and harmful, depending on how we handle them.

One factor is the effect our emotions have on others, especially if they become excessive. When we act on our emotions, we are still subject to the laws of cause and effect. If we’re angry and lash out at someone, there are consequences to that action. If we constantly worry about our adult children, for example, they often feel we don’t trust them to run their own lives. If we are always fearful about world events, many times, others either buy into that fear or avoid us. If we smother people with love, they usually feel their sense of freedom and independence has been compromised. During times of

“The key to not building up toxic emotions in our bodies is by cultivating the ability to let go. Whenever an emotion comes up, explore it thoroughly, welcome it, and identify where it’s located in your body.” excessive grief, compassion is often stirred in those around us but, if taken beyond the point of an “acceptable” grieving period, it usually causes more isolation for the person suffering. What to do then? How do we nurture the richness of our emotions without causing harm to others or ourselves? Emotions can take us into unexplored realms. They are what connect us to our spiritual body and can bring us into multi-dimensional layers within our own psyche and subconscious mind. When we love our emotions and allow them to be – feeling into the deepest portions of ourselves – we create an opportunity for deep inner exploration. When we’re not afraid of our emotions, no matter what they are, following that feeling to wherever it might lead, we honor that part of ourselves. Someone may look at us and not even know what is happening. This does not mean we are suppressing an emotion. To suppress is to see the emotion as it comes up and refuse to honor it or really feel it, stuffing it down to be dealt with “later” – a “later” that often never comes. This can result in an energetic imbalance in our organs and/or meridian system, depending on the emotion involved. In Chinese Medicine, an over-abundance of grief or sadness can end up in the lungs, if not purged or let go of. Fear ends up in the kidneys, anger in the liver, anxiety in the heart, and worry in the spleen. Once there, we might not even know we have a problem until it manifests into a related disease. Medical Qigong helps people rid themselves of these toxic emotions, and there are also ways to do this work yourself (please see Calendar for classes I offer). During therapy sessions, clients are often given “scripts” in the form of Qigongs that self-empower them to take charge of their own health, either between sessions or when therapy is no longer needed. Both methods can be used to cleanse the body of excessive energetic imprints. A Medical Qigong Therapist assists clients by purging the channels for them through energetic work, adding “clean Qi” to the body and making sure it flows throughout the system, as well as helping clients get to the root of the issue to ensure continued health and well-being.
If we feel a deep sadness and it’s hard to breathe, sending compassion to the lungs and dealing with the grief as best we can allows the sadness to move on. This can be a long process, at times, but suppressing the emotions does not make them go away. They just hide inside our bodies, waiting until we’re ready to deal with them. If fear makes our kidneys hurt, face those fears. If we’re feeling angry, is the sensation held on the right side beneath the ribcage (the anatomical position of the liver)? Work through the anger and let it go. Buddha had wise words regarding anger. He said: “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.” If we overthink everything or constantly worry about the past or the future, are there digestive issues? Overthinking and worry cause an imbalance in our spleens which holds the energetic portion of our food. Getting in touch with our body and emotions is an important first step in keeping ourselves healthy on both a physical and energetic level. Bringing our mind into it, too, is another important factor. There are positive aspects to each organ as well as negative ones. They are: courage for the lungs, wisdom for the kidneys, love for the liver, tranquility for the heart, and trust for the spleen (trusting that everything will work out just fine). When we’re able to add this component, focusing on the positive emotions, once we’ve worked through the negative, we can build up our organs and meridian system to a more peaceful state of equilibrium. It's always a process but well worth the effort. Dealing with our emotions on a mental, emotional and energetic level nourishes mind, body, and spirit, ensuring our overall health and helping us to enjoy a happy and productive life. Kate Kellman is a certified Medical Qigong Therapist (MQT), studying to obtain her DMQ (Doctorate of Medical Qigong) with Dr. Ted J. Cibik, a Daoist Priest, DMQ, Chinese Physician (Zhong Yi), and Naturopathic Doctor (N.D). Dr. Cibik is a senior student of Dr. Jeffrey C. Yuen, a Daoist Master from the 88th generation of the Jade Purity Sect and the Complete Reality Dragon Gate School. Kate has a private practice in Medical Qigong Therapy at The Garden in Saratoga and teaches classes in Daoist Five Qigong Set at the Red Dragon Karate School in Ballston Spa and at The Garden. Please check the Calendar for details or her website at: www.deep-connections.com. Kate can be contacted by calling or texting (518) 775-7798 or via email: deepconnections24@gmail.com.
The key to not building up toxic emotions in our bodies is by cultivating the ability to let go. Whenever an emotion comes up, explore it thoroughly, welcome it, and identify where it’s located in your body. That will help facilitate a better understanding of the emotion. If we feel an ache in our heart, who or what is that situation related to? Don’t hide from it; acknowledge it and explore the feeling, allowing it to come up. Then, decide what can be done about it, if anything. If we’ve had a fight with a loved one, maybe we need to make amends. If the situation is better left alone, then accept that and let it go, knowing this isn’t the time to address the issue. 15 year anniversary issue I #91 April—May ‘17 I Healing Springs

The Smell of a Healthier Spring by Sarah A LoBisco, ND s the new season rolls in, we have enjoyed some days in Upstate New York that were positively pleasant. This induced a bit of “spring fever” in myself and my fellow New Yorkers. In typical and temperamental New York weather style, the temperature abruptly shifted from warm to cold, but it is a sure sign that spring is in the air… eventually!
A
To celebrate the end of the winter season, I want to discuss five essential oils to help assist you in calming and rejuvenating your body, mind, and spirit after a long, cold winter. I’m going to start with one of our favorite sacred oils and an oil universally known to be calming, immune supporting, and that has evidence of modulating our brain’s response patterns!
1
Frankincense: The positive effects of this essential oil on the body, mind, and spirit has been redeemed since ancient times. As I wrote in my recent blog:
Sacred trees have been honored in religious and spiritual traditions throughout history. I’ve written previously about the famous trio of ancient essential oils that were brought to the Christ Child in biblical times… Recent evidence has demonstrated that beyond its spiritual effects, frankincense also has a wide array of actions that support

us physically. You can read more about these properties on my essential oils database online (www.dr-lobisco.com).
2
Lavender: We know that smell effects our physiology, and using the this acclaimed essential oil has been shown to modulate our stress response and can help to slow down our run-away emotional brain. This will allow us to move out of our “fight and flight response” and provide our brains access to more rational and constructive responses for the new season. Suggested uses for frankincense and lavender for spring preparation: • Diffuse either or both of these essential oils in the home to promote relaxation, unwind, and to enhance meditation. • Add a drop to your beauty routine. • Apply 1-2 drops of frankincense or lavender to areas of muscle tension and soreness. (Use a carrier oil if needed.) • Inhale frankincense for a grounding aroma that will calm the “squirrely mind” and help you to refocus. • Diffuse lavender at night for peaceful sleep.

Blue Cypress: This oil can put a spring in your step and mood. It is known for its phytoncide content, which have been shown to be the mediators of the immune modulating and stress relieving effects associated with “forest bathing.” I suggest diffusing this oil regularly.
5
Lime Essential Oil: Lime is a citrus oil, in the same family as lemon, and contains the powerful constituent limonene for supporting wellness. Citrus oils are also very calming. Lime is perfect for making water “less boring” as you boost your wellness quotient. Use it to lure yourself to increase your water consumption. This will help your body stay hydrated and optimally functioning for the upcoming outdoor activities. Add a drop in 16oz of water and enjoy! Here’s to a happier, calmer, and healthier spring! You can learn more about the essential oil brand I use and/or join me and my team by visiting my website. We’d be very blessed to have you!! I want to talk a little about Somatic Breathwork. This small collection of movements developed by Dr. Thomas Hanna, is a golden nugget of information for your brain and your body. By the way, Dr. Hanna gave us an endless supply of golden nuggets, so stay tuned. Back to the nugget at hand. Modern life today dances with something we call stress. There’s good stress (e.g. helps bones stay strong) and there is the not so good stress (e.g. drives you crazy). Now, let’s add in some trauma from accidents and postural misalignments from habituation and we have some work to do. Somatic Breathwork targets the action of the diaphragm and the complete use of the rib cage (yes, the back of your rib cage counts) in restoring oxygen levels and relaxation in both the body and the mind. Also, lets release the contracted muscles of the low back extensors and the rectus abdominis (just a big word for a big muscle) which extends from the pubic bone to the nipple line of the chest. Just in case anyone is confused with thegeography here, we are talking about the front of your body. That highly popularized area where your “abs” are located. I didn’t capitalize that so as not to be confused with the brakes on your car.
Anyway, these two areas are mainly responsible for the feeling of stress you will feel in other parts of your body. The object of these movements is to release people from chest breathing and using neck and shoulder muscles that aren’t necessary. These actions only compound the problems of stress and oxygen intake. It’s truly wonderful to watch someone who is a smoker (smoking teaches one to breathe incorrectly) use his or her diaphragm fully for the first time in who knows how long. Muscles relax, color comes back and that person looks younger. How sweet is that! Mind you I’m not singling out smokers here. But that does make me smile. Many people, if they take a moment of awareness, might find they are not breathing at all, at any given moment! Oxygen deprivation is epidemic! And it shouldn’t be, since there is air everywhere! There are many human situations that need Healing Springs I 15 year anniversary issue I #91 April—May ‘17

If you happen to not be feeling your usual chipper self at this moment, the following might just bring you all the way back. Consider that we have approximately 7.5 billion people on this planet and not one of those people knows what it feels like to be you on the inside. Its because of this uniqueness, that somatics wants to a dialogue with that person inside. Somatics is about bringing self awareness to the shadows of how you function.

The many people who sit in front of computers all day and the excessive use of hand held devices are tending toward postural distortions. Distortions that can add to the lack of oxygen, involuntary muscle contraction and congestion with them. This therapy work can be a positive turning point in reviving energy and interrupting signals of anxiety to the brain.
Somatic Breathwork deals with stress and other factors such as trauma and habituation, that affect a person’s ability to bring in adequate oxygen. These factors can strongly affect a person’s functional efficiency on many levels. It targets the action of the diaphragm and the complete use of the rib cage in restoring oxygen levels and relaxation in both the body and mind. Lets also add the release of contracted muscles in the low back and the

HEALING WITH DOLPHINS S a t p r e m ’s E x p e r i e n c e s
by Satprem ost people have heard of and enjoyed the adventures of Flipper the dolphin, but only a few have had the opportunity to see a dolphin outside of a zoo or aquarium. I had my first dolphin experience around the age of 12 during an open air dolphin show. A few "cute kids" were allowed to feed and touch the animals. I felt sad when I was not picked, as one dolphin emerged from the water at exactly my height and looked directly into my eyes. This happened each time he passed me and my heart was on fire. From that moment I “knew” dolphins as something “more” than animals. It was a special experience. Every time I caught their attention I felt uplifted. When the dolphins jumped, I watched children’s tears dry and serious people lightening up. They brought joy to everyone.
From that year on I have had a close connection to dolphins, watching, swimming and “communicating” with them. Afterwards, I always felt myself replenished. I followed experiences of other dolphin lovers on the internet and in articles. In recent decades “the secret” that dolphins have healing powers has become known and is accepted by therapists and scientists. One can watch physically and mentally ill people quite rapidly improving while they are swimming with dolphins.
In 1987 I sat meditating at a beach in India, feeling suddenly touched by energies never felt before. It was intensive, friendly and unfamiliar. It forced me to open my eyes. In that moment a dolphin jumped up high and my heart jumped with it. I closed my eyes again until that strange and forceful feeling came back. I opened my eyes and again a dolphin jumped. This happened a few times and I became aware that it was no coincidence. The new feeling and the dolphin’s jump were connected. It felt like an initiation. During this summer the contact became so close that dolphins often came near and swam around or next to me. The experience was not only “nice” but also frightening as some of the dolphins were large
In April 2007 I was invited to participate as meditation teacher and healer on a 10-day dolphin trip at Egypt’s Red Sea. It verified all my previous insights and experiences with dolphins and brought new surprises. We were a group of 14 people with only a few meditators and the crew. In the early morning I went to meditate on the deck, which almost touched the water. As my silence sunk deeper I heard the dolphins emerging around me. The water started moving and they were chattering and jumping for some time and suddenly disappeared. They surrounded us again after a while and “invited” one by one by their nudging, to jump in and play with them.
and moved the water wildly around me. I returned to the Ashram, where I lived and was invited by the Mystery School to a closed dolphin group meeting. I shared my “initiation” experience and came to hear about similar stories from other participants.

It brought plentiful joy to watch everybody’s contact and afterwards listening to their underwater stories. It was something else to be exposed to the vast sea, surrounded by a pod of 90 wild dolphins. It felt indescribably blissful, timeless and in deep oneness with the universe. There was NO room left for fear, lost-ness and loneliness, only a vastness of peaceful unity. Through a mask I watched and followed the dolphins and was at times completely encircled by them. They danced with me, whistling their dolphin call, playing hide and seek games, chasing each other, diving under me to pop up right next to me. In short, they made me feel a part of their family. At one point I could only hear the dolphins because they disappeared into deeper waters. Suddenly a huge male submerged from the depth, swam closely to me, stopped in front and looked penetrating deeply into my eyes. I have no description for that look but knew I was consciously observed. He swam to another smaller dolphin and it looked as if they conferred about me while looking back at me. The bigger one returned to “checked me out” once again, returned to the smaller one to “confer about me” and so on, a few more times. It was eerie and felt like I was being thoroughly analyzed. Finally, they both disappeared into the depth to return with the whole pod. They came closer, forming a dense ball of moving bodies underneath me when an intense circle of light slowly spiraled up from the pod and met my body with an electric energy shock, which was absorbed by my heart. I was in a state of timelessness and “such-ness” similar to a Satori experience (moment of awakening) I had some years before. Warmth played around my heart and it was the same feeling I had in my first dolphin encounter in Goa 1987 while meditating. A “message” and another “initiation” was happening. Over the following days some extraordinary healing sessions happened through my hands. I then KNEW I had to merge dolphin-power with “my” healings and meditations. “My” healing-dolphin boat trip was born. Satprem’s Dolphin-Healing Adventure on the Red Sea, Egypt: There are only a few places where one can swim freely with wild dolphins and the Red Sea is one of them. In June 2017 I will offer the next Dolphin-Healing Adventure. Everyone who commits to the Self is welcome. There will be different dates available. Up to 18 people per trip will share 7 days of silence, laughter and exchanges on a yard. Together we will meditate, swim and snorkel with dolphins in their own living environment, have healing circles and I will also give “whole-istic” healing sessions to those who want and need it. Every day will be spent at the sea, with fresh air blowing in your face, swimming, reading, snorkeling, dancing, relaxing and connecting to yourself and nature. There will be two people sharing an en-suite cabin. Delicious vegetarian food will be cooked by 2 chefs. Alcohol and cigarettes are not welcome and I promise, you will not miss them. There is only a limited space so book in time!
