w w w. k a t r i n a c l ay. c o m Soul Realignment Sessions In these sessions I review the records of your soul to discover what it is at its origin, then look into blocks that may be impeding you from expressing your divinity and clear said restrictions. We will discuss on a recorded phone call the "ingredients" of your soul and what blocks I cleared. "Words like authentic and REAL get tossed around a lot in spiritual marketing these days, but please know I don’t use them lightly. There is a genuine-ness about Katrina which is a true comfort when navigating numinous work. As someone who has been on a spiritual path for quite awhile, I enjoyed the new layers uncovered in our recent Soul Realignment Session which I found to be both insightful and useful." — Suzanne Wiggington, Arizona
Shamanic Reiki Sessions Give your body the opportunity to speak with a Shamanic Reiki treatment. Our bodies hold emotions and hidden fears, with Katrina as a guide allow those to see and know the light.
Individualized Modern Shamanic Journey This is done to access your inner wisdom. We already have our answers, a journey is a good way to learn what they are. We can also do a journey to the soul of your pet; alive or deceased. Give me a call or email to discuss further.
Publisher’s Corner The greatest gift you can offer is a healthy, whole you The other day, I noticed my horse Tom eating goldenrod, a weed that often gets mistaken for ragweed. I hadn't seen him do this before, so I went to the expert in all things—google—to find a long list of benefits from it. Two of which were insect bites and wounds. Tom had sustained a cut just the day before and certainly had bug bites. This amazed me and was a reminder how wise animals are about their needs and the environment. We neglect that intelligence by micromanaging their behavior and limiting their choices. There are times when they can use a bit of guidance. Tom is somewhat accident-prone and it may avoid an injury if I suggest he not step in a hole that I see and he doesn’t, for example. However, we disempower our animals (dogs and cats included) when we take away their power of choice, believing that as humans we know what’s best. There was probably a time when we also understood the innate benefits of the earth’s bounty without having to look it up via a book or the internet. Now, we have so separated ourselves (as a cultural generalization) from both our innate wisdom as well as the wild, that people are more afraid to eat berries directly off a bush in the woods than those sold in stores grown with pesticides. Later on a run, I was climbing a hill. A car drove by and the driver enthusiastically gave me a thumbs up out the window (think Alan Garner from “The Hangover” in a 1988 Oldsmobile sedan). This was a kind gesture meant as encouragement and brought me a smile. It also made me feel stupid, for no one encourages those who are going along doing great—it is reserved for those that are struggling. There are probably people who enjoy receiving acknowledgement in such situations; I am not one of them. Somehow it got me thinking about how as kids we are told not to listen when people put us down. Simultaneously, we are expected to listen when someone gives us a compliment. This never felt right to me—you either listen to what everyone says or to no one. Our minds aren’t able to categorize what to hear vs. what not to, mine isn’t anyway. Neither choice is right or wrong. If you listen to everyone, simply know that hearing what they say and taking it on as truth are two separate things. If you choose to listen to no one, be mindful that you are clear about what you believe. Another Tom story; as many of you know, I work with modern shamanic practices. Typically, I lead people on their own “journeys.” On these journeys, we are often in communication with spirit animals. Yesterday I was at the barn early and didn’t see Tom as I arrived at his paddock. When I called his name, he came galloping from around the trees towards me, reminiscent of a spirit animal approaching during a journey. This reminded me of the fine line between what we call our spiritual experiences and life in the material world. Actually, there is no line, it is all the same. Compartmentalizing devalues them both. At times we may be involved in one area more than another but in the human condition exists the union of spirit and matter, thought and action, micro and macro. These three stories may seem unrelated. I am sharing them together to illustrate the point that we alone have authority of our lives. Following your instincts may lead you to your needed nourishment. Choosing to listen to people’s encouragement, leads you to also hear other’s pessimism—be clear what is true for you. When considering your spiritual path, remember the whole human experience is spiritual, that is what makes us alive. It’s not hard to agree that there is an emphasis on the outer in our modern world. We even assume protection needs to come from the outside—buildings, laws, rules, regulations etc. You may know what stones or crystals will keep you ‘safe’ or the right prayers and incantations to bring light or a “system” to tell you who you are. What if we found protection and wisdom from within? What if what we choose without thought is exactly what we really need, like Tom eating Goldenrod. Wouldn’t that be of great value and less stressful than constantly checking with outside sources about what is right? We can examine astrology, consult books or go to workshops with the finest teachers, yet at the end of the day it is our selves alone living our life. Any system becomes a path of conditioning if we follow it without questioning how it applies to what we experience as our inner wisdom. Information is available at our fingertips, let us not confuse that with having sagacity. We can hide from our vulnerability in that knowledge. Leading a genuine life, one of my goals, takes regular clearing. This is what “being in the moment” or “present” means. For it isn’t just about time and space, but also clarity. On November 6th, I’ll be presenting “Find Your Inner Shaman: The Way to Awaken Your Power” for SIMEN at the Saratoga Springs Library at 6:30. We will tap our personal wisdom and experience how to discern our truth. Looking forward to seeing you there. photo by Deborah Neary

First and foremost, if you or a loved one have reached a critical stage and there is potential danger to self or another seek help immediately by calling 911, or going to the nearest hospital emergency room. Should you decide to seek professional therapy on your own you may be put on a wait list due to an increase in demand for services that are in short supply. In that case, you will need to seek alternative resources while you wait. Consider a consultation with your primary care provider for initial direction. Then, take a few deep breaths and do a simple selfassessment: how am I feeling, how are my sleep patterns, how is my appetite, what am I thinking or obsessing about? Is this manageable? Take yourself outside to ground yourself. Get in touch with nature, exert some energy, listen to nature to clear your head. Then review what is going on at home, what is going on at school, or work. How is your self-care? One important coping strategy is self-care. We get into ruts, looking the same and feeling the same. I work with self-care as a mental health modality, integrating beauty and wellness. It seems like a silly statement, but do you take care of yourself? Maybe you just need time for you! Have you walked in a park recently? It’s always a great feeling when you take time for a manicure, a pedicure, a haircut, a massage, or a facial. Do you have trouble sleeping? Have you ever tried taking a mineral bath or having a reiki treatment? Here are some resources to help you determine the level of care that you are seeking and where to find them. Stressed About the State of the World? CENTER YOURSELF IN LOVE by Rick Cotroneo, MA, Co-leader of the House of Mica Peace Chamber t seems that allot of people are experiencing fear, anxiety and insomnia about the state of the world. The list of troubling events seems endless: the outcome of the recent presidential election; North Korea testing nuclear weapons; the US dropping out of the Paris Climate Accord; White Supremacist rallies; hurricanes battering the coasts; and the general negative, divisive state of politics. How do we respond when we feel troubled about the state of the world? Tina Fey’s recent skit on Saturday Night Live titled “sheet caking” (the practice of eating cake in response to feeling anxiety about the world) was a hilarious depiction of what many of us already know. When we feel anxious or fearful we are more likely to do things that are not good for us: eating too much, smoking, drinking, relying on substances, zoning out, losing sleep and sometimes, abandoning our spiritual practice.
I
In our ceremonies and teachings at the House of Mica Peace Chamber we share that it is possible to respond differently. It is possible to respond from our highest state: love and compassion. It is easy to think that today’s troubles are worse than they were 10 years ago or 100 years ago. But the truth is that humans have always faced the same external reality: when we focus on physical reality there is life and death, gain and loss, happiness and sadness. And our choices about how to respond to this have always been the same. Respond with fear, anxiety and hatred or respond with loving compassion and spiritual awareness. Fortunately, there have always been seers and holy people whose states of being are rooted in the awareness of the inner state of divine love, rather than the external world. These people light the way for all of us and remind us of who we truly are. I am not saying that we should ignore the external reality or troubling world events. I am saying that with awareness and practice, we can center ourselves in our true selves: the state of loving compassion. As you read through this magazine there are dozens

Healing Springs I #94 Oct/Nov ‘17
of approaches to self-nurturance, releasing fear and trauma and coming home to center. We each have to identify those tools and practices that we best resonate with to help nurture and call forth our highest selves. Without going into any specific methods or modalities, here are a few insights and strategies that might help you turn anxiety and fear about the state of the world into opportunities to deepen your state of love. • Learn to quickly identify the physical and emotional signs of stress, worry, fear or anger related to world conditions (or anything else for that matter). With awareness, you can recognize when you are starting to feel these emotions. You can begin to identify the moment that your stomach or your back or head begins to feel discomfort. • In that moment of awareness, ask yourself, “How do I choose to respond to this?” Would I like to respond automatically with negative patterns or would I prefer to find the place in myself where love and compassion reside and move from this truth? When you choose love, you ae likely to begin to feel better and the more you do this, the more your heart and body will want to respond this way next time. • Make a practice of pausing periodically throughout the day to clear your thoughts and tune into the inner vibration of love. This helps to strengthen your ability to find that inner space and mitigates against getting too lost in a negative state. • For some of us, stress and anxiety can become an uncomfortable, but familiar home. It is an important step forward when we recognize this and realize we could be much happier in our true home, the state of love. The more we “visit” the place of love, the more we realize that the comfort of the familiar is not comfort at all. In that moment, we let go of our old habits not by use of force but by reasoned awareness that we will feel better if we make the healthier choice of responding with love and compassion for ourselves and others.
“The truth is that tuning into love may take effort but once you do it your vibration will lift and your experience of the negative energy will be transformed.” • Plan how and when you will take in the news. It may very well be that checking out the news five times a day on your phone for 3 minutes each time actually serves to heighten your overall stress. You may find that taking in the news consciously, from a relaxed and centered state enables you to keep your center and not create all that underlying “noise”. • Be part of the solution. Take actions that you consider positive in the world. Mobilizing your energy to support something positive keeps the psyche in motion and this motion supports a loving state of mind and heart. • Seek out support in a new way. Too often we turn to friends to discuss the news so that we can complain about how bad things are. We find people with similar views which proves that we are right and the rest of the world is wrong. While this provides a sense of familiarity and sense of moral high ground, this is actually not an uplifting practice. Rather, plan with friends and family how you will talk about the news from a state of compassion and respond to world events from the inner space of love. • Consciously practice kindness and look for kindness everywhere. The truth is that we see what we are looking for. By practicing kindness and seeing it everywhere we can validate the presence of love all around us. The truth is that tuning into love may take effort but once you do it your vibration will lift and your experience of the negative energy will be transformed. The light of love is everywhere and always. It is our nature and our birthright. With practice, the troubling aspects of the external world of duality can become reminders and motivators to return to the unitive state of love. The saints and sages have always demonstrated this. We are fortunate to have access to these teachings and together, in community, we can support each other in realizing our true nature: loving compassion. Rick Cotroneo, MA, CCH, has worked with the Native American medicine person and visionary, Beautiful Painted Arrow, since 1983. SelfSorcery: understanding negative self-talk the shamanic way by Wendy Ball ight off the bat I want to acknowledge one of my favorite shamanic teachers, Linda Fitch, for grounding my understanding of sorcery and taking the drama out of it.
R
When we think of sorcery we think of black magicians and the power of curses and spells. These exist and can be lethal. Help to counter these can be hard to find. Part of the power of sorcery is that it throws us into the drama of the victim place. We feel helpless and powerless. What is sorcery, essentially? It is about abuse of power. What is abuse of power? It is the use of our own power to control or injure, to gain advantage at someone else's expense, to humiliate. Looked at this way we see that sorcery is rampant. Some sorcery is intentional and much of that exists in this world. Much sorcery is unintentional: cursing another in a fit of rage, speaking badly of someone out of envy or jealousy, threatening a child out of parental frustration. The most common kind of sorcery is self-sorcery. It is all the ways we speak badly about ourselves to ourselves. Often it is the messages we have adopted from parents, teachers and others: “you'll never amount to anything,” “you are a loser.” A lot of judgment is self-sorcery. We think it serves to make us better. Does it? Or does it more often strengthen a core belief that we are less than, unworthy, incompetent? Anything we say to ourselves that makes us feel less than or brings us down is self-sorcery. It takes a great deal of strength, courage, focus, and positive energy to thrive in our challenging world. Sorcery of any kind undermines us. Having good limits and boundaries is the most fundamental form of protection we can have. With these we learn to act on our own behalf by saying No. We can also create or be given energetic boundaries. They will help protect us from attacks from without. But they will not shield us from attacks from within. Looking at the impact of negative self-talk from a shamanic perspective can really wake us up to the energetic power of thought.

“Having good limits and boundaries is the most fundamental form of protection we can have. With these we learn to act on our own behalf by saying No. We can also create or be given energetic boundaries. They will help protect us from attacks from without. But they will not shield us from attacks from within.” Shamanism calls us to understand the power of thought to create and urges us to engage in joining with others to create positive and nourishing realities around us. Some would say this is our creative destiny as humans. In order to do this we need to reckon with our recklessly negative use of thought. The impact of other's curses can be plucked out of our field. But the negative beliefs we hold about ourselves has a corrosive effect that drains energy and depletes our personal power like nothing else. Self judgment, comparison that leaves us feeling less than, sarcasm, these are pollutants that are as important as an other toxin to remove from your life and experience. Be the luminous being that you truly are. Come in to your own light. Wendy Ball, M.Ed., is a shamanic healer, Hakomi practitioner, coach and mentor. Awaken YOUR Inner Medical Intuitive by Sue Singleton fter performing well over 8,500 Medical Intuitive (MI) Readings in the past 27+ years, I continue to enjoy teaching and empowering others to become their own health intuitive. Intuition can play a critical role within complementary medicine, and transforms all aspects of one’s life.
A
Medical Intuition is a very specialized subset of intuition/psychic ability. MI names the Root Cause or Original Trigger of a complaint/illness/disease, or pro-actively discovers the core imbalance before it becomes disease. Unlike psychic readings, MI Readings provide a detailed anatomical and physiological profile of the Root Cause(s)/Core Imbalances, tracing imbalances back to source location and timeframe. MI Readings do not provide, or replace, medical diagnoses. Aura/chakra readings may be helpful, depending on someone’s concerns or goals. However, they identify auric asymmetries and weakness - which may NOT be the Root Cause. Also, depending on the reader, s/he may not provide a detailed Root Cause, or comprehensive plan to resolve it. Psychics/Intuitives who receive health insights are NOT necessarily Medical Intuitives. Although some Intuitives have innate abilities for anatomical insights, Medical Intuition can be taught by a qualified, practicing MI. While Kinesiology/Muscle Testing is a beneficial tool used by doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists, herbalists, and psychics when narrowing a list of possible causes, it is frequently mistaken for Medical Intuition. MI, however, reaches well beyond the knowledge or “list” of possibilities known to non-MI practitioners, assuming the Medical Intuitive has a “discernment” level of accuracy. Discernment is an acquired ability to obtain highly accurate, detailed data,
from a universal consciousness state, in which the personality, knowledge or experiences of the intuitive are transcended. At this level, answers totally outside his/her realms of intellectual knowledge become available. Although not everyone develops the ability to perceive the same level of detail/accuracy of a qualified MI, everyone’s birthright is to be fully intuitive and apply it for positive benefits in his/her career, personal life and health concerns. Discernment is critical for the accuracy and detail of intuitive abilities to blossom, and relates to the level of consciousness attained by the individual. As demonstrated in the graphic, accuracy and detail are very low when in the conscious mind state, and increase to only around 50% when in the subconscious mind state. Once someone enters the super-conscious mind state (SPC), a quantum shift occurs, bringing accuracy close to 100%. Discernment permits this SPC shift, also known as universal consciousness, akashic records, mind of God, oneness. Reach your highest potential by tapping into the MI within, even if your chosen path isn’t to become a professional MI! Landscapers, doctors, teachers, acupuncturists, healers, lawyers and parents can excel in all aspects of life by learning the discernment process. It greatly simplifies the process of doctor visits, career and relationship choices, food shopping, etc. Sue Singleton is an internationally acclaimed Medical Intuitive, Master Healer-Teacher and Author, who co-creates tools for transformation and healing and a variety of workshops with her husband, Aaron Singleton (Medical Intuitive, Visionary, Inventor), through The Way To Balance®, LLC Center for Advanced Healing and Training. What We Are Not Being Told About Breast Cancer Screening and Breast Health? A critical difference between thermography and mammography is the ability to detect problems early enough to use preventive measures.

The American Institute of Cancer estimates 40% of breast cancer could be prevented with wiser lifestyle choices. Those numbers are far too low if can we address the excess of toxins, medical radiation and micronutrient deficiencies impacting our breast health. The number of women diagnosed with breast and other hormonal cancers has been increasing dramatically in recent years: in 2017 it is expected that 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women, the leading in Hispanic women and sadly the leading cause in younger women age 15-40 who are not routinely screened. For many these are our daughters, our mothers, our sisters, our friends. In almost perfect timing for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, two recent studies, a 25 year (BMJ: 2014) and a 30 year (The New England Journal of Medicine, 2012) shows that the practice of breast irradiation in an attempt to protect against breast cancer is harmful and should be abandoned. Due to all the evidence stacking up against irradiation used in mammography, some members of the Swiss medical board are recommending that routine mammography screening be abolished. The lower-dose radiation used in mammography has shown to be more carcinogenic than high dose radiation. An alternative to radiation? Regular self-examinations along with thermography is a painless, environmentally safe way to detect breast cancers early without causing them.
There is a deafening silence that our breasts are exposed to a group of toxins called estrogen disruptors or environmental estrogens. They enter the body as estrogens and attach themselves on our hormonal receptor sites on the breast and fatty tissue. Once there, they disrupt the endocrine system.

We can see the level of toxicity our breasts hold through infrared thermal imaging or thermography. These toxins show up as heat spots. Through detoxing and supplementing with the indol/sulforophane compounds, we can metabolize these pesky toxins off our receptor sites. When it comes to breast health and deficiencies, a secret weapon that many women (and doctors) are not aware of is the essential mineral known as iodine. Iodine is one of the most important minerals in the body and essential for human life. Every cell in the body uses iodine in some form. Iodine is involved in the metabolism of estrogen and acts as a buffer to the growth effect that is produced by estrogen. Iodine helps our hormonal receptors function properly. Recent studies show that prolonged deficiencies of iodine can exacerbate or be a contributing factor in the development of breast cancer. Iodine deficiency is also known to cause a condition known as fibrocystic breast disease, a precancerous condition of the breast making the breast painful and fibrous, which can make it difficult for mammograms to detect the presence of breast cancer. Another deficiency affecting breast health is low levels of Vitamin D. Vitamin D influences virtually every cell in our body and is nature’s most potent cancer fighters. Inside almost every cell in the body is a Vitamin D receptor (VDR). VDR is a protein that controls the expression of genes. The Vitamin D in our blood enters breast cells, binds to the VDRs, and triggers positive change, including preventing, slowing or even stopping cancer growth. Do we nurture our breast? Lymphatic breast massage can enhance our body’s natural ability to eliminate cancerous toxins. This can be done by practicing self-nurturing massage techniques or with the assistance of a licensed massage therapist. Let’s get smart about our breast health. Detox, replenish deficiencies, practice self-examination, utilize thermography and nurture our breast! St anding a t t he CROSSROADS Many of you may be thinking “Amazing? It sure doesn’t feel amazing! I’m stressed, drained, frustrated” but one thing for us all to remember is, transition is not easy, and the emotional, physical, and spiritual movement our soul experiences is often times one of angst, upheaval, and emotional overload. But this is all par for the course. If we didn’t experience discomfort, we wouldn’t change anything. Change is brought about for us in uncomfortable ways. If everything was rainbows and butterflies, we wouldn’t look at anything in our lives to change because we would be completely satisfied with everything, so there would be no need to look deeper, to explore our inner thoughts, fears, or desires. And that is amazing.
by Anne Magdalene, MSW very moment of every day, we are in constant transition. We may see it more as having to deal with things as they come up, adjusting our routine, or our approach to something unexpected. As humans, we are living in such an amazing time of growth, expansion of our consciousness, and ultimately, transitioning into the next phase of our own evolution, as well as the collective evolution. 18 Healing Springs I #94 Oct/Nov ‘17
E
Collectively, we are all moving toward something beyond what we can conceptualize and that can bring fear, trepidation, even stagnation, but if there has ever been a better time to move into your truth, it is now. Cosmically, we are provided with the energy of the universe, and the love of our ancestors, to begin to release all the things that are holding us back, standing in our way, and preventing us from creating the life we desire. We are deserving of the life we desire, and there are times when we are unable to see, clearly, how to create that life, or where to begin.

The body is designed to heal itself, if given the right tools. 550 Maple Ave Suite 202 Saratoga Springs, NY 518-306-9257 lisaobrien.nutrition@gmailcom As we reach the midpoint of our lives, we often reflect on what we once wanted, what may have stopped us from getting what we wanted, and may even have some regrets that we didn’t take risks, or that we created a safe life, rather than the life we dreamed of. Now here you are, at the mid point of your life, and are wondering where all the time has gone, and what is next for you. We can find ourselves looking around at our lives and thinking “This is it? This isn’t what I had imagined for myself.” You may be an empty nester, or preparing for retirement, or you may be feeling drawn to a new career. Are you feeling like something is missing from your life…… feeling stuck…. frustrated with the direction of your career, or marriage, or life overall? Each one of us has come into this human experience, at this exact time in history, to fulfill certain aspects of our soul’s contract. But trying to figure out what that purpose is can feel impossible. One of the first steps to take in finding your purpose is to evaluate where you currently are in your life (career, love life, family relationships) and how they are assisting you in cultivating a path for fulfilling your life’s purpose. This can take time, so no need to rush through it. Being cognizant of what you want, need, and more importantly, deserve is a wonderful place to start. The next step is to begin to formulate steps to bring about the change for which you are yearning. If it is a new career, map out a plan as to how to move into a new career, and not just any career, but one to which you feel called. Is it in the helping field? Medical field? Or something non-traditional such as massage therapy? Often times, we look at our lives in a linear way, meaning, once we are in our 30s, we tend to think we are too far into a specific career to make changes, but our own limited perception is what stops us from pursuing something different. Do you

439-7644 think and feel the same about everything in your life as you did at 19 years old? Probably not, so as you have evolved, likely, so have your dreams and desires. That is another wonderful aspect of the human experience; we evolve, constantly, over time and so do our likes and dislikes, as well as our goals and aspirations. For some of us, we have been “doing” for so long that we are not even aware of what would bring us that feeling of purpose or excitement. If this is the case for you, try this simple exercise to assist. Whenever you are feeling peaceful or excited about something; take a moment and notice what your body feels like. Scan from head to toe and notice any sensations you have, or lack thereof. This is your own personal barometer; when you find a few consistent “feelings” in your body during these times, then use this as your honing device as you begin to explore what might fulfill you. If it feels similar to the times you noted that you were peaceful, excited or joyful, then go for it! Now is a wonderful time to bring into your life more of what you seek, and you are the only one who will bring about the changes, that will create the life you desire. If we allow ourselves, we can create our own mid-life reboot, at any age, at any stage. Anne Magdalene has been working in the field of intuitive arts and healing for over a decade. have previously written several articles on cholesterol. I have cited evidence that it is not the cause of cardiovascular disease; rather, it has been demonized and found guilty by association. Being intrigued by this meme of supposed connection between cholesterol and heart disease even led me to dive into the research during one long, cold, snow-bound evening. By the wee hours of daylight, I had a much longer article than expected (actually, a borderline mini-review) which is posted on my website. What I concluded from assessing the “science” was that it was clear that cholesterol’s bad name should be redeemed based on biases and inconclusive trials reported as “evidence.”
One of the major headliners I came across while compiling August’s Top Holistic and Integrative Health Reads, provided vindication to me and many other holistic practitioners that have been touting for years that lipid levels aren’t the driving factor of cardiovascular disease. Rather, the authors of this research article demonstrated that it is inflammation that may be the culprit. In this study, published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine entitled, “Antiinflammatory Therapy with Canakinumab for Atherosclerotic Disease,” the researchers stated: Current pharmaceutical interventions that are designed to slow the progression of atherosclerosis focus almost exclusively on reducing plasma levels of cholesterol. However, clinical and experimental data support an additional critical role for inflammation in atherothrombosis.1-3 We previously found that downstream biomarkers of inflammation such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and interleukin6 are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events, independent of the cholesterol level.4,5 We have also found that statins reduce the levels of cholesterol and markers of inflammation,6 and in a series of clinical trials we and others subsequently found that beneficial outcomes after statin therapy relate to both a reduction in cholesterol level and inflammation inhibition.7-11 Yet, to date, no evidence has shown that reducing vascular inflammation in the absence of concomitant lipid lowering reduces the rates of cardiovascular events. As such, the inflammatory hypothesis of atherothrombosis has remained unproved. The study sought to test the inflammatory hypothesis based on the effect of a drug that lowers inflammation by targeting interleukin-1‚. It was a randomized, double-blind trial of 10,061 patients with Healing Springs I #94 Oct/Nov ‘17

They concluded: Antiinflammatory therapy targeting the interleukin-1‚ innate immunity pathway with canakinumab at a dose of 150 mg every 3 months led to a significantly lower rate of recurrent cardiovascular events than placebo, independent of lipid-level lowering. Note the last sentence.“…independent of lipid-level lowering.” Unfortunately, the drug brought with it many side effects, including a higher incidence of fatal infection. A consideration may be to use natural products, with a better safety profile, along with healthy lifestyle support, to prevent this negative inflammatory process that strains the cardiovascular system. For example, in one study, green tea was shown to modulate this same pathway of interleukin-1B in vitro as the above trial in humans.

Why You Are Not the One He is Committing To What ’s a woman to do?
When you say “I’m fiercely independent,” the message you send is “I don’t need you.” It is no wonder Kim’s pool is filled with non-committal men: they don’t need her either, except for sex, of course. The fact that she is fiercely independent takes them off the commitment hook… leaving her puzzled when she reveals her true desire for marriage and children.
by Joëlle Lydon ’m currently struggling with the following: the men I find myself most attracted to are, like me, fiercely independent, intelligent, adventurous, interesting, passionate, and funny. Unlike me, the only interest they seem to have in a partner (me) is sexual. These men also are repelled by the concepts of marriage & children. But those are both things I long for. Why would men I have so much in common & chemistry with not want more out of me than sex??? Why am I not that “woman that changes their mind” about commitment?” -Kim

Does the previous dilemma sound familiar? This is not an uncommon issue. In fact, it is widespread among women in our modern Western culture. Let’s unpack this so that you can begin to shift this pattern for yourself, shall we? Kim is a fiercely independent woman attracting fiercely independent men. Within that independence lies a desire for marriage and children – which, if we take a closer look, might seem conflicting. Why is that? You have two fiercely independent people, one of whom desires “dependents” and inter-dependence in the form of marriage. What are the chances of this kind of relationship working out over the long haul? You know it… Slim to none…. This is not to advocate she give up this quality about herself. Her independence is the very skill that allows her to get things done in the world, be self-sufficient, get recognition, solve world issues, be a Leader. It gives her satisfaction and, besides, we need more women like her rocking the globe with their Bad Selves. The problem is that these skills don’t transfer into the realm of relationship.
Sorting the riff-raff from the real deal means stating your true desire up front, sharing your dating goal from the onset: “The purpose of my dating is to find a loving partner who desires to marry and have children.” Whaaaa???? Yup. If his response is, “I was just looking for a one-night-stand” you can identify early on whether your date is a match, freeing you to you can make an informed, adult choice to take him up on his offer or thank him for a lovely evening. Somatics
The secret sides of stress by Paul Powers omatics is getting to be something of a popular term in healthcare circles these days. Actually, somatics has been around for a very long time in the form of yoga, pilates, tai chi and chi gong. However, somatics came alive as a therapeutic approach around the early 1900’s starting with Matthias Alexander, (the Alexander Technique ) and carried further into the present by Jean Ayers, Charlotte Selver, Moshe Feldenkrais (Functional Intergration ) and Thomas Hanna ( Hanna Somatics )

result in, among other things, a deprivation of one of the two things we can’t live without… oxygen. By restricting the action of the diaphragm and taking in full use of your lung capacity, this leads to inadequate defense against stress. Many other things can manifest due to compression and congestion on the front side of your body due to this muscle alone.
S
Secondly, the muscles of your low back which are directly opposite to the rectus abdominis are also affected by stress and bad posture. When these muscles are under constant compression, we have the most common ailment in industrial societies: low back pain. However, low back pain is not the end of the road. The conditioning of these muscles reaches high into the back of the head and low into the bottoms of the feet. Migraines can be the result of conditioned reflexes here.
So, beyond all this history what are we talking about that pertains to your daily life. Somatics is an exploration of movement to help one function more efficiently. To help someone like yourself cope better with the environment in which you live. Somatics as a therapeutic tool gives you the means to counteract stress in your life. This is especially important in today’s world with changes in workplace dynamics and the speed at which people are being asked to respond to the world around them.
Thirdly, we have the muscles of the waist. These are usually muscles that have been affected by trauma. These muscles are in a guarding state perpetuated by elevated fight or flight nervous tension. Actually, I’ve seen folks who were in accidents 10, 20, 30 years ago and the state of their nervous systems have not changed since the day of the event.
Now, let’s get around to these “secret sides “of stress. Pretty much where you feel the effects of stress is not where it is originating. There is a core of muscles in your body that exist between your ribs and your hip bones that react to stress and create tension up and down your body. The large abdominal muscle that attaches to your pubic bone and up to the 6th rib at the nipple line, has a great influence on how you function with regards to stress. The constant contraction of this muscle affects a very large area of you. It can
Somatics can help restore lost voluntary muscle control and break old patterns that have developed from habituated postures and trauma. But more so, somatics can empower an individual with selfconfidence, self-regulation and educate them to have control over the process of their lives. Are You Qi Deficient?
Photo; Roosevelt Bath
How to Reclaim Your Energy by Kate Kellman, MMQ re you lethargic? Depressed? Is it difficult to get up in the mornings? How hard is it to motivate yourself to make changes, especially when you feel tired all the time? You know all the things you are supposed to do but just can’t find the energy to do them. Is your face pale, your pulse weak? Do you speak with a low voice and have little desire to move? Western Medicine might label you with the condition “chronic fatigue syndrome” and tell you there is nothing to be done. In Eastern Medicine, we would say you have the pattern of imbalance called Qi Deficiency.
A
This imbalance can be combined with other issues concerning the blood, heat, cold, dampness or disharmonies within the organs, so there may be other factors and symptoms along with those described above. Generally, however, whenever you are experiencing weakness and lack of vital energy, you probably have some sort of Qi imbalance. So, how does this happen, and how can we strengthen our weak Qi? First of all, what is Qi? Many would describe it as “life force energy,” however, that is not completely accurate. Qi is a mysterious substance that is indescribable and cannot be defined or seen. It is more like a force that is everywhere and in everything

from a blade of grass to the complexity of the human body. It’s in the air around us and within us – the spark of life. Qi is the Great Communicator, connecting us to our divinity, to the greater essence that is in all things, both living and dead. Okay, so now we’re getting closer to understanding Qi, but how do you harness it and keep it flowing through your body to maintain health and well-being? Perhaps you have faith in a higher intelligence, or maybe you just believe in Nature and a bountiful Earth and sky. Think of all the life force the Earth contains with its abundant plants, trees, rivers, oceans, and all the volcanic eruptions that formed our continents. Imagine the heavens with all the stars, moon, lifegiving sunshine, planets, comets, and galaxies. We are surrounded by huge amounts of pure Qi in Nature, so when we drink it all in – gazing at the stars or the moon, swimming in lakes or the ocean, walking barefoot on the grass or hiking through woods or mountains, or just dipping our feet into the cool waters of a local stream – we are harnessing Qi and bringing it into our bodies to nurture our own Qi reserves. Whenever we nurture ourselves emotionally and physically, we also build up our Qi. This might include taking a warm bath, doing something that makes us feel happy or loved, laughing with friends, eating healthy food, getting enough sleep, being thankful for our blessings, appreciating something beautiful, being creative, or participating in a sport. On the other hand, whenever we experience unhealthy emotions such as constant anger, fear, worry, or anxiety or are constantly stressed out and irritable, we burn up our Qi reserves. Too much negativity can

drain us of our vital energy. Also, pushing ourselves beyond our physical limits on a regular basis through highly ambitious pursuits that are competitive and require constant physical endurance can also deplete our Qi. It is certainly worth the time and effort to become self-aware of how we use our Qi. Do we constantly allow life’s challenges to get us down or let others drain us? Or, can we set healthy boundaries and take care of our basic needs? Why is Qi health so important? Think of it like having money in the bank or storing food in the cupboards. Whenever we build up our Qi, we are adding to our savings account or keeping some extra for a rainy day. In Chinese Medicine, there are several channel networks in the body. Our daily Qi first goes into our Twelve Meridians which can be compared to money in your pocket or food in the fridge. Once we fill up our Twelve Primary Channels (or Meridians), any extra Qi goes into our savings account or cupboards, referred to as the Eight Extraordinary Channels (or 8EO). Likewise, if we are burning up our Qi through excessive negative emotions, poor lifestyle choices, and/or constant stress, the body will take it out of the twelve surface channels first, then go into the storage reserves of 8EO. If 8EO becomes depleted, there is “nothing left” to fuel the engine of our body. At this point, we begin experiencing the symptoms of Qi Deficiency such as feeling tired and weak all the time. It’s our body’s way of telling us to slow down and take care of ourselves. Another danger of depleting our Qi is when unexpected events occur. Draining the bank means we are more likely to develop sickness, and if we don’t have the reserves in our Qi “bank,” it could mean the difference between life and death. Car accidents or other life-threatening situations will also require us to be strong physically and mentally to survive. Luckily, we can do something about this condition before anything serious happens. There are many helpful tools and gentle movements called Qigongs that can be learned to help people re-gain their strength and vitality. Being proactive and taking good care of ourselves is always worth the time and effort. We can all live a healthy and productive life when we have the knowledge, guidance, and will to improve ourselves in these simple and nurturing ways.

NOVEMBER Saturday, November 11 Intensive Conscious Femininity Workshop to teach women a framework for building the spiritual scaffolding necessary to engage uncertainty, mystery....life itself. The experiential teaching provides a method of inquiry designed to connect us to our symbolic lives and our spiritual needs, allowing the lead of our suffering to become the gold of higher consciousness. From there, the skills for discernment of what is unfolding meaningfully or regressing endlessly can be developed. Women will leave with a meditation practice to continue their explorations and deepen the teachings. Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique PAST LIFE REGRESSION SESSIONS
Unlock the past to thrive in the present QHHT is a spectacular journey into your higher consciousness. Pioneered by Delores Cannon, this hypnotic method facilitates a trance state through visualization accessing your higher self, where you will discover that all healing and answers lie within. Our higher self gives access to past lives and other memories releasing old timelines and blocks to more soul-infused living. People come for sessions for so many reasons. Some want to heal physical problems and others want to understand more about their soul mission. The soul has so much guidance that the conscious mind can’t access. The healing and transformation that occurs is spontaneous and life changing.
Nothing is beyond the realm of possibility. There are no limits except those of our own mind and beliefs. CONTACT DIANE SAUNDERS AT THESHIFT.ROCKS OR CALL TODAY FOR A SESSION 518.567.7315
