Good will to all... A
bundle disappears before the week is out, we keep one for the team to refer to all month.
HEARTy thank you to all the business owners and workers, community organisations and not-for-profits who have supported your local newspaper, the Hinterland Times. Here at HT, we are proud to sponsor events like the Maleny Christmas Festival, Celebration of Books, Kenilworth Cheese, Wine and Food Festival, and the Aussie Day Expo which we'll enjoy next month! if your community group wants to reach not only everyone on the range, but also visitors from the coast - then it is worth your while working more closely with us. Ask about our sponsorship packages. Please, please remember - that we are a business as well as your local community newspaper, and for us to print 14,000 copies and support our team, the more advertising we have the more stories we can include - so factor advertising in your 2018 budgets.
"We just had a lady who wanted a list of wineries, and as a foodie, she was booking a special occasion function at the Hinterland. The Hinterland Times summarises this, as well as what's on, superbly."

HiS yEAR’S CHRiSTMAS Tree Festival theme is the Colours of Christmas, and as you read through December's offerings, you'll see beautiful bright imagery. Our pull-out gift guide is decorated with drawings from Montville State School Students - the very same artworks that adorn the town's new banners. The guide also holds easy gift ideas, explains how you can become a ‘Lucky Shopper’ and includes as many Christmas events as we could fit. Each community across the Hinterland offers something different: Mooloolah kick of
their celebrations first; in Montville the Woodies set up a Santa's Workshop; Mr Claus arrives on a fire engine at Mapleton's Light the Lights; Palmwoods takes the festive time as a chance to open their new town square, and it is no surprise there is a shared table at Crystal Waters. Fireworks will sparkle at Beerwah and Nambour, plus Nambour adds markets and a food court to their carols! Kenilworth save the celebrations until Christmas Eve, and Maleny dances at a street party with a mega raffle and generously puts on a Christmas breakfast. These Ananda Marga River School girls, pictured, will dance with their Heartspace troupe, led by teacher Kester and his wife Kirsty, who has just been engaged as the new drama and dance teacher for the Maleny independent School. See them at the Maleny Christmas Festival and Street Carnival, and stop in to the free Maleny Singers and Rotary Christmas Concert at
the RSL Hall, from 6.30pm. Back to the Christmas Tree Festival, are you going to enter a tree? We'll expect to see the traditional Christmas colours of red and green. Red for the holly berry, or perhaps the red nose on Rudolph, or the red of Santa’s outfit. Green for the evergreen trees that will decorate our homes: some artificial and taken out of their boxes each year – others a branch of a live tree. Others will say that “white” is the colour of Christmas - like HT's gorgeous cover – not here in Maleny of course, but in other places across the globe where a “white Christmas” is the norm. you only have to look around the shops to see that all colours come out at Christmas – gold, silver, pink, purple, you name it, you’ll see trees decorated in an array of these. you may even see ‘blue’ trees – a reminder that Christmas can be a ‘blue’ time for many people, a lonely time which conjures up memories of places and faces that can no longer be enjoyed. if you can help out with the Maleny Neighbourhood Christmas Breakfast - please give them a call. Volunteers are needed from 6am, but delicious offerings start from 8 to 11am, so no one need be alone on Christmas Day. But in the week before Christmas, December 16-24 make sure you come along to Maleny Uniting Church, and see all those colours of Christmas.

in Maleny by Dale Jacobsen
With the phasing out of plastic bags just around the corner, two young women have decided to create a space in Maleny full of fun and creativity, that manages to be environmentally conscious too.
M
EiGHAN SHAW and Samara Jane know what makes young folk of Maleny tick. These two young women grew up on the Range. They met in grade 5 at the Ananda Marga River School and have been friends ever since. “We live in a beautiful place,” said Meighan. “i am very fortunate to be part of such a dynamic community, and to have wonderful ecoconscious parents.” Meighan is the daughter of Karen and Spencer Shaw, well-known ecologists and activists who run Brush Turkey Enterprises. About a year ago, appreciating her daughter’s passion for living a sustainable lifestyle, Karen drew Meighan’s attention to Boomerang Bags. This grassroots community is committed to tackling plastic pollution at its source by replacing single-use plastic bags with reusable bags made from recycled materials. The concept kicked off in 2013 when Tania Potts and Jordyn de Boer shared a dream of reducing plastic bags in their community of Burleigh Heads. it is fast spreading Australia-wide, and in the Hinterland - active in Glasshouse and Beerwah, as well as Maleny. “i have been involved in environmental projects all my life,” said Meighan. “it’s just the way we live, and the way a lot of people live in Maleny. So, i wanted to do something that would tie together all the things we believe in.
Hang Space will be a hub for fashion, food, live music and hanging out - and a perfect place to create Boomerang Bags!

“We have seen that a socially involved space is missing for the young folk of Maleny, and we hope we are creating the right atmosphere to fill this gap,” said Meighan. “We are enhancing our community, one thread at a time.” it is comforting to know such attitudes are alive and thriving within the younger folk of Maleny. For more information, or to donate materials for Boomerang Bags, contact Meighan: https://www.facebook.com/HANGSPACEMALENY/ https://www.facebook.com/Boomerang-Bags-Maleny1915047128747755/

“Samara Jane and i got talking, and we came up with the idea of Hang Space, a place where people could gather, share their abilities and ideas, and hopefully change the habits of everyday lives.” While the concept is still in the early stages of development, Meighan and Samara Jane have already staged two very successful Hang Space events at the Little Red Cottage at 20 Coral Street Maleny, and hope this will become a monthly happening, possibly the last Sunday of the month, but check their facebook page for forthcoming dates. “The whole idea of Hang Space is to set up a discussion of how to lessen our impact on the environment through things like recycling clothes. you don’t have to buy new mass-produced clothes to look smart. We definitely follow the Slow Fashion Movement principles.”
There is no doubting that this attractive, smart young woman sitting across her sewing table from me lives her words, as does Samara Jane, a model. As part of Hang Space, Meighan and Samara Jane hold Boomerang Bag-making workshops on a fortnightly basis. They worked with the Boomerang Bag graphic designer to come up with a logo for the Maleny-made bags, and have had a screen made for use on each unique bag. Local businesses have shown support, handing out information leaflets and flyers. “Our aim is to sell these bags for as little as possible, just enough to cover costs such as screenprint ink, thread, electricity, rental,” explained Meighan. All bags will be made by volunteers from donated or recycled materials. i, for one, will be going through my sewing cupboard, weeding out those bits of material left over from sewing projects. Meighan asked that people message her (through the facebook page) so she can arrange a time to leave them at the cottage. “The Boomerang Bag workshops will be a great chance for people to make friends, up-cycle materials and work towards shifting society’s throw-away mentality,” said Meighan. Meighan and Samara Jane aim to make Hang Space the go-to place in Maleny. it will be full of fashion, food, live music and generally a space to simply hang out. For a small fee, again to cover costs, people can have their own stall from which to sell their pre-loved clothes, handcrafted wares, artwork, shared lunch … the sky’s the limit. The Little Red Cottage, previously an artists’ hub, continues to support local artists in a relaxed and low-cost environment. Tunja Cottier, from Music on Maple, has opened her own space in the cottage, selling second-hand vinyl records, and keenly takes part in Hang Space gatherings.

Lighting up
Landers Shoot
Many residents perform acts of kindness and generosity in our beautiful Hinterland, and it is always a pleasure find out more about the people behind these thoughtful acts. Christmas lights, local charity and a family affair brought Victoria McGuin to the Landers Shoot door of Di Easdale recently.

i EASDALE LOVES PALMWOODS. Born in Gympie and raised on a farm in Kenilworth, she and her late husband ended up with a farm in Landers Shoot, “it was about 49 years ago, we grew paw paws and strawberries”. There was a move to Tin Can Bay, but later Di returned to her beloved Palmwoods, living in town for over ten years before settling off Landershute Road on their original land. Di lives on a shared block next door to her daughter Renea, Daryl and grandchildren. it’s a busy day. The Compass institute group is here to view the gardens and Andrew (‘Digger’), the Farm Manager for Compass, is running through things he can do to help Di. it soon becomes clear that this is a big labour of love. “We have the lights for everyone to enjoy,” says Di, “but we also have lucky dips for a dollar, and raffle tickets.” (There are baskets and baskets of wrapped and soon-to-be wrapped presents taking over part of the house.)
“People are donating gifts to Compass,” Andrew shares. “And we have vouchers from Erbachers, Montville, Bradys… the community is amazing.” “We are always keen for more donations though! if anyone would like to drop things off here, we’d be very grateful,” Di smiles. Looking around, i can see strings of lights everywhere, across buildings, wooden poles, pergolas. Hundreds of Christmas decorations adorn the walls and hang from the ceiling, and Christmas trees are dotted about. i can’t wait to see it at night! “Daryl, does most of the hard work putting the lights up, and Renea does a lot too,” says Di. “i do the garden, i’ll take a bow for that!” she laughs. “We started in about August,” Daryl continues. “Luckily! Because we had all that rain. But we managed it, and the poles all slip out, so it is easy to take down.” “All the lights in the Balinese hut, and a few others, stay up all the time,” adds Renea. This sparkling garden has become a regular fundraiser for charities over the years, something that seemed to grow organically.

“i started doing this when i lived in Tytherleigh Road,” says Di. i always had lights under pergolas and then i just started getting a few more.” “A few thousand more!” interjects Renea. “When i moved to Bonaparte Place, i began raising money for the Guides with my Christmas lights display. Then for the SES, the Fire Brigade and it just built up from there.” Last year Beyond Blue benefitted from Di’s display and fundraising. “We raised $3000, but i was disappointed that the money went to Melbourne – i wanted it to stay to help people in the community. That is why i am so glad to have Compass on board this year as they have been brilliant.” Councillor Jenny McKay comes to turn on the lights on Friday November 24, and on December 23 she returns to draw the raffle. Santa will be present both nights – apparently arriving on a golf buggy! “Prize night is a great night to come,” says Di. “We have nibbles here, but you are welcome to bring your fish and chips for dinner. Sit under the lights, enjoy the Balinese hut, drive in, take a look around and eat!” As the Compass group leave, Andrew tells me how glad

presents, cooking, and selling raffle tickets. if it wasn’t for my kids and grandkids and family, i wouldn’t be able to do it,” Di says. “i love doing it… but i won’t do it if my garden isn’t up to scratch. i’m very fussy, and i like my garden to look just right.” From what i can see today, the garden looks just perfect and i am sure the many visitors who step through the gates this Christmas will agree. Come and enjoy the lights at 8 Roys Road, on the corner of Upper Landershute Road, Palmwoods, from November 25 onwards, and donate to the Compass Institute, providing real futures for Queenslanders with disabilities.
they are that Di has asked them to be part of her lights this year. “We’re very on board to help. it’s all about community, and Palmwoods is a great community, always has been.” “you couldn’t be a more deserving cause,” replies Di. i take walk around the beautiful, expansive garden, which is lovingly nurtured by Di. “i grow and sell native succulents,” she tells me. “And native flowers, people love those.” Di has been working at the Peregian and Noosa markets, selling fruit and veg, for the last 30 years. “And i try to keep going out in the garden – to keep young,” she laughs. “When i was 70 i had a wake with a 50s theme, and at 75 i’m having another one with a ‘Grease’ theme! There’ll be music, dancing on the lawn and a few lights around. And food – people never leave our place hungry.” On cue, she encourages me to have some lunch (i politely decline) or a cup of tea and some cake (i accept). “My family all help with everything, putting up these lights, wrapping

The life and Times of
Kondalilla Cottage Part 1 The Hinterland is full of historical buildings, peppered across the range. From barns to hotels to rickety Queenslanders – there are interesting stories behind each façade. Victoria McGuin recently found out more about an architectural gem in Flaxton: the soon-to-benamed ‘Kondalilla Cottage’ – and the families behind it.

ETERiNARiAN JUSTiN BULLiNG and his wife, children’s author Maryanne O’Flynn, are the current owners of a beautiful cottage in Kondalilla Falls Road, Flaxton. The home is so picturesque that Maryanne tells me it has become an unexpected tourist destination. “We often see tourists taking photos outside. in fact, recently a Japanese group came and sat on our swing and took pictures under the Jacaranda, throwing blossoms in the air around them for effect. They were there for about an hour!” Justin and Maryanne run the Montville Veterinary Clinic, which is nestled alongside the cottage. They have been enjoying gently restoring this home with their children in tow, since they moved in, in 2003. ‘Funnily enough, my wife Maryanne, before i ever met her, looked at renting this place,” shares Justin.

“i decided not to bother,” says Maryanne. “it was too horrible.” Justin explains, “The previous owner operated a cafe / restaurant for a while, then left and rented it out to people who also operated a restaurant. There was some dispute with the tenants selling some of the restaurant equipment, with the police involved, then they left with rent owing and the house in a terrible state.” When Justin moved in the house had been empty for nearly two years and was infested with rats and cockroaches. “The inside was in a terrible state and all the original trim and doors were missing, the walls covered with layers of asbestos and fake wood panelling and lowered false asbestos ceilings installed. i have since restored the inside of the house with original Queenslander doors and reproduction trims.” Maryanne and Justin have learnt much about their home over the years, and its rich history. “it was a simple farm cottage originally, owned by the Skene family for workers’ accommodation, when the area was predominantly under citrus,” Justin explains. in fact, Justin has met at least one member of every family who has lived in the cottage since 1924, and recalls receiving visits from some previous owners. “There was a knock on the door one Sunday about 11 years ago - a lady called Olive and her son were there and asked if they could take some photos of the house. Of course, we invited them in,” says Justin. “On the sixth of January 2007 she came again with her sister, but i can't remember her name. i remember the date, as my second son was born that evening.” Justin and Maryanne found out that Olive was born in the house in the late 1920s, the fourth of seven Higson children. “Her parents, Alf and Jennie, had sailed out from England on the Themistocles. Jennie’s parents, the Guy family, also came out and lived in a house on Flaxton Drive, opposite where the paragliders used to launch.” Alf was a ship’s engineer, heading for a new life, with the prospect of farming in Australia ahead of him; he and Jennie bought the house in 1924 and it was quite a few years old then. “Based on that information and looking at other houses in the area, i assumed it was built in the first decade of the 20th century,” Justin shares.
It is now time to place Christmas orders in addition to Justin and Maryanne’s knowledge through Olive, research by Barbara Ramadge-Ross on the Higson family was published in the Montville Gazette, July 1998, page six. The Higson’s had 25 acres of ‘virgin scrub’ and a few orange trees. Alf burnt the remaining tree stumps and scrub, so a horse plough could till the soil. The family’s first crop was pineapples and vegetables and, like others in the area, they learned to milk their cows and make butter for delivery – the cream was railed from Palmwoods. Olive’s brother, Ron, remembers the hand-picked fruit being packed in homemade cases, and then when the Depression hit they received a bill for the dumping of cases of their fruit. Life became a struggle. Their only earnings came from Jennie’s baking, the butter and vegetables, and Alf working on the roads, breaking rocks by hand, for which he received credit from the local grocer. The boys, Norm and Ron, worked at the larger dairies to help. Despite these hardships there are still fond memories from Olive. “The house was smaller then,” Justin explains, “with just the two bedrooms, lounge, a small kitchen with wood stove and stairs at the back. There was a dunny outside.” “The memories really paint a picture,” says Maryanne. “Olive’s parents slept in the bedroom, the three girls in the second bedroom and the four boys on the verandah. Every morning they had to walk to the bottom of the valley to bring up the cows. “None of the children ever owned shoes and Olive remembered standing in fresh cow pats as she herded the cows, to warm up her feet!”

Healing the

The first time I heard of Marisa Kliese, was when she was credited with saving someone’s marriage. Gay Liddington said Marisa used to visit her stall at Maleny Market, so when they reunited for this story – Gay said they ‘yakked’ for hours!

ViSiTED MARiSA Kliese’s Reesville naturopathic clinic and was captivated by her humble presence. We quickly established that each were born under the Aries star sign that aligned our independent, go-getter personalities. “i am one of six girls and definitely the weird one,” said Marisa better known to Hinterland Times readers as ‘A problem shared… with Marisa’. Born in Belgium to Polish Russian parents, Marisa has a strong memory of childhood and her senses that reached beyond the ordinary. She recalls her beginnings in Australia. “St Joseph’s, Kangaroo Point was where i started school. i hated it and couldn’t understand why we had to learn all this information which had no bearing on what i perceived as reality.” Marisa completed schooling to Junior certificate level before moving into the next phase of her life. “i was a dental nurse, a model, had the first all-woman real estate agency in Brisbane and a restaurant in the city. i did patchwork, fashion design…i did everything,” said Marisa. i was intrigued to know about her time as a photographic model. Married at 17, Marisa joined her husband in the real estate business. “There was a modelling agency down the hall from our
Marisa Kliese holistic practitioner
office. One day the photographer said his model for a Sportsgirl shoot hadn’t turned up and asked if i would fill in. After that i made it into the Australian Women’s Weekly a few times.” During a tumultuous time in her life Marisa forged ahead in spite of personal challenges. “i opened a real estate agency in the early 70s because i wanted to do something different and offer opportunities to other women. Those i hired were ones who lacked confidence and needed opportunities to get back into the workforce. “i also bought a licensed restaurant in Edward Street in the 70s. A friend was in financial difficulty and asked if i would buy the restaurant from him for only the price of his debts. We built the restaurant up to where we had trouble seating people in the evening. “We couldn’t afford staff, so i asked my sister who was in High School if any of her friends wanted work experience.
They could eat all they wanted in exchange for their presence. “Lots of beautiful eager young angels happily came to work/play. A lot of the young people that were on broken shifts in the city also found a safe space there. The restaurant prospered.” Marisa says she was born clairvoyant. “As a little girl i saw future surgery and told my parents about organ transplants and doctors doing surgery on babies in the womb. i predicted earthquakes and weather changes because i felt the magnetic fields changing.” Health challenges plagued Marisa’s young years. “At the age of 16 i had an abundance of white blood cells. Leukemia was mentioned as a possibility although never confirmed. i was admitted to hospital and woke up with the priest giving me last rites. “in my early twenties i developed epilepsy. The seizures were severe and i was formally diagnosed with left temporal lobe epilepsy. it was like an electrical storm in my head. “Then came a moment of ‘knowing’. i was drinking black coffee and smoking a Black Russian cigarette when i knew i had manifested this condition in my consciousness. “This was a turning point. i learned how to calm the body and eat the right food. i never had another fit.” A massage course, meditation, involvement with Chenrezig Buddhist institute and a Kombi van propelled Marisa along the 70s healing path and into the 80s. A new marriage and daughter, Nirvana, was born. A blessing received from the Dali Lama and an appearance as guest clairvoyant on the Earle Bailey television show added to the blend of experiences. Marisa Kliese worked as a hands-on-healer, clairvoyant and spiritual counsellor. However, it was when she noticed a white fibre-like line in her baby’s eye that a new route presented. “i took my daughter to the doctor but was unable to get clarity. Someone suggested iridology which indicated it was related to the kidney. My baby had a kidney infection which we healed. From that point my husband and i began studying iridology, naturopathy and homeopathy. “We bought this property at Reesville about 27 years ago, living here part time in a caravan and part time in Brisbane. “We also had a clinic at Chermside but began to work from a shed on our property. Then we built the house and moved up here full time.” Over the years Marisa added to her qualifications: life coach, psychology,
counselling, hypnotherapy, nutrition. This accumulative knowledge plus an instinctive ‘knowing’ makes Marisa Kliese a unique practitioner. “When patients come in concerned about whatever is going on in their life, i remind them that they are part of the great field we call infinite Spirit. They are not alone. “While respecting and responding to their challenges, treatment needs to happen in a grounded way making use of all medical and alternative support available. it is important to work energetically, bringing body, mind and spirit together for real healing to occur. “Every thought, every emotion, is a powerful precursor to body chemistry. That creates an effect in our body and also how we relate to life experiences. “i think we have a lot of unlearning to do: blending knowledge and information with wisdom and intuition.” Marisa’s knowledge comes to the fore when clients seek counsel for matters of the heart. “i believe that every person is a good person. When people have lost connection with themselves and/or their partners, i help them to expand their awareness…move
out of their heads and reconnect with their hearts. Quite often as a result they see their reality differently.” Marisa Kliese is much more than a healing practitioner. Her unobtrusive manner and divine wisdom reminds me of the ancients: “Awareness is the key. Many people are in a state of amnesia. We aren’t just this two-arm, two-legged form. “We are an undulating, magnificent field of energy connected to something far greater that we can ever imagine. Awareness is not local. Our attention is local, our ‘beingness’ is everywhere.” Phone 07 5494 2627 for an appointment.

ADVERTORIAL
There have been a few rumours lately about RangeCare and our ability to serve our wonderful community. We wanted to let everyone know that RangeCare is:
Open for business
RangeCare is ready, willing and able to deliver services to all Home Care Package recipients. If you have a Home Care Package, the money you have been assigned as part of your package is exclusively yours to use for your care. RangeCare is your local Home Care Package specialist; we have a vested interest in the community within which we live and work and want to support the people of this region to live their best lives.
Serving our community more than ever
Each year, RangeCare receives a set amount of funding from the government to deliver in-home, respite and social support services to people along the Blackall Range. We work hard to make best use of this funding for our community’s benefit. As demand within our community grows, the way we use our funding to support people in the community has to adapt to ensure that we are supporting as many people as possible. Sometimes our funding in some service areas, such as domestic assistance and home maintenance, is stretched to the limit … that is only in a few of our service areas … not all our service areas.
Delivering above and beyond the government standards
RangeCare must comply with the standards set by government in the way it delivers services to clients. We consistently deliver services above and beyond what is required of government.
We are not alone
Every care provider has the same funding limitations imposed on them. If another provider has funding availability for services that we have stretched to the limit it is often because they do not have as much demand for that service in that area. We value this wonderful community that we have been serving for more than 30 years. We have always appreciated the community’s support and look forward to working together for many years to come. Warm regards
Jenny McCafferty CEO

EVAN CHRiSTENSEN is a warm and affable man, known to many on the Range for his love of music and community. Residing in Flaxton, Bevan is an energetic 97 years old, and extremely entertaining to listen to, both in conversation and on his piano/organ. On November 25 he was awarded his decoration for 70 years membership of Freemasonry, an award which (logically) is not frequently achieved. Bevan served through World War ii, first in the Middle East, and later in New Guinea. He was one of 16 World War ii veterans selected by the Department of Veterans' Affairs to visit France and the United Kingdom to represent Australia at the 60th Anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe). John Watson, Master, Montville Lodge said, “He has been for more than 20 years organist for Freemasons Lodges from Tewantin to Caboolture, and in 2015 he was awarded the South East Queensland Cooktown Orchid Award (SEQCOA). “This award was given him in recognition of his widespread valued service to Freemasonry throughout the Sunshine Coast, and to recognise his equally valued service to the wider community beyond Freemasonry. “ in 2016 Bevan came up with the idea of ‘A Tribute to the Anzacs’ concert, a centenary commemorative project with the Mapleton RSL, performed by the Mapleton Choir and Friends. This concert was to demonstrate gratitude for all those who fought, but also to remember the role music has played lifting people’s’ spirits throughout the wars. John Watson added, “Bevan has been widely involved in organisation of and participation in musical events at local aged and other care facilities, including the Range

After many years in Brisbane, where they had three daughters, they moved to Flaxton. “Bevan has been a long-term member of Probus 90 Club of Nambour, and was President in 1998,” John said. “And in the 2011 Queen's Birthday Honours Bevan was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).” it is good to see someone recognised for their positive impact in the community. OH LA LA. French Champagne in time for Christmas! This year we are looking at the youngest Champagne House in FranceChampagne Brimoncourt. "Champagne Brimoncourt embodies a forgotten ideal in Champagne; something special, whimsical, imaginative, carefree yet indulgent. Alexandre Cornot has created both a superb cellar of wines, and also a brand that embodies something vital, alive and new. " And let’s not forget Champagne Vollereaux. "Champagne Vollereaux was established in Pierry and Moussy in 1805 by Victor Vollereaux. He achieved his first vintage in 1923 offering his production to
a circle of friends and relations. “Today, Champagne Vollereaux is owned and managed by sixth generation, Franck Vollereaux, who with the help of previous generations has established a prestigious, high quality Champagne business in the heart of the Champagne region of France." Come and sample some of the best that Champagne has to offer on Tuesday December 12, 7pm at Finbars of Maleny. $40/person, pre-booked or $60 on the night. Limited numbers so book early. MUCH ADO ABOUT
EASEMENTS
An easement is the right to use another person’s land for a stated purpose. It can involve a general or specific portion of the property. An example of where an easement can benefit a property is where John owns a tract of land that borders the a national park which is a popular area for bushwalking and fishing. Mary lives next door to John , but her land does not adjoin the national park. To avoid trespassing, she must access the national park by walking or driving to a public entry point. Instead, John grants Mary an easement allowing present and future owners of Mary’s property to cross John’s land to access the national park. How does an easement effect the person who grants it? The landowner who grants an easement usually cannot build structures within an easement area or use fencing that would hinder access. Other activities might also be prohibited. It is therefore important that before you a purchase property you know where all easements are located and what restrictions are associated with them. Easements can affect property values – consider these examples: • Several easements on one lot of land might seriously limit the choice of building sites. • High tension power lines running through an easement near an otherwise great building site can be unsightly. Resale values may be affected since many people feel that living too close to power lines is a health risk. • Buyers may simply not like the idea that others have a right to use the land in some way.

Don’t assume that because an easement is not currently being used it will never be used. As long as an easement is registered on the title of the property there is always a possibility that the individual who benefits from it will decide to enforce it.

THINK WE CAN all agree, the Hinterland is an easy place to live.
Locals Steven (Green Energy Electrical) and Kate Pilcher (ex-Salt magazine owner and owner of Globetrotting), are launching their boutique estate, Maroo Pocket. This one-of-a-kind development situated in the pea-green hills of Dulong, perfectly sandwiched between Mapleton and Nambour. “We love where we live,” says Kate Pilcher. “We can be riding horses along secluded bush tracks in Mapleton and by the afternoon eating fish and chips at Mudjimba. Every need, want and desire for a growing family is within a twenty minute drive.” With lot sizes’ ranging from one to three acres, each block has it’s own X-factor, whether it be useable land fringed by the translucent Platypus Creek, to elevated blocks that peer down on the surrounding Dulong Valley.
Love
Above: Locals Kate and Steven Pilcher and their growing family launch a new estate The Dulong lots sprawl over the valley - complete with a creek!
Where you live
“i love the flexibility that each lot offers,” says Kate. “Space to build a home while being completely immersed in nature, a place where children can climb trees, build cubby houses and grow vegetables in their own backyard.” With monolithic fig trees, swathes of green grass and the charming Platypus Creek that skirts the estate - it’s hard not to fall in love with
this hidden valley. Lot prices start at $325,000, so make a beeline to the launch on Saturday, December 2, between 10am and noon, 198 – 218 Dulong Road, Dulong. For more information, contact Roger Loughnan Real Estate on 5478 5288 or visit www.rlre.com.au

OCAL SOMAR XAViER, is bringing a new initiative to Maleny. “We know that plastic bags are harmful to our ecosystems and linger for generations in landfill, so we have created a solution The Paper Bag Project, which recycles newspaper into carry bags and reduces waste. “Better still, the production of these handmade bags provides a source of income for rural villagers in india and the proceeds of their sale feeds, shelters and educates 53 homeless children. This work is undertaken by a charitable organisation north of Delhi, india, with the bags predominantly made locally by rural village women, who are in charge of the quantity they produce. “This decentralised production supports village and family life, explains Somar. The Paper Bag Project also aims to offer community support, and raise awareness and funds for those with mental health issues, and their carers, in our society. “We are a registered, not-for-profit organisation with charity status. All members are volunteers, and we would love your support. For more information or to place an order visit: www.paperbagproject.org.au

EMEMBER HOW A zipline was sought for Kondalilla? Well, now we have one planned for the coast. Australia’s largest high ropes course and zipline course would be designed to fit the natural topography of the Big Pineapple site. TreeTop Challenge General Manager, David Taylor, said, “you could walk 20 metres past this low impact activity and not even realise it’s there. Mr Taylor said the unique activity, suitable for people of all ages, could cater up to 200 visitors at a time and will offer around 120 different challenges within the trees. “The course is as good as the environment, and the section of forest at the Big Pineapple where we are planning to locate is among some of the most suited to our style of adventure on the Coast. People may remember some of this forest when touring on the nutmobile, years ago. if approved, Mr Taylor said he would spend between six and eight months on the Sunshine Coast building the course with a team of six construction experts.

AVE yOU EVER wondered what is happening in the garden behind the Maple St Co-op shop? Named the Children's Festival Community Garden in August 2012, this place allowed us to come together to play, learn, share and co-create. Art and garden design have been integrated to provide local artists and children with space to express their talents and leave a creative gift to the community. Art in the garden reminds us all that not only our bodies need nourishing food, but also our souls and minds. The garden is open for all to enjoy and revive, and contribute to its harmony in a gentle, caring and creative way. Less than a year ago, the garden attracted a few new people who have since committed themselves to work on the Maleny Co-op Community Garden vision, bringing in fresh ideas and finding ways to improve the existing garden structure. Now supported by the Sunshine Coast Council Grants Program, the financial means is in place to purchase gardening equipment and more raised garden beds, to make the whole experience easier and more productive for all. The garden will hopefully become a learning space for different community groups, so the building of the essential weather shelter is on the way, with the significant financial support of the landlord, ian McDonald. The vision is one of gardening, art, craft and music workshops taking place amongst many other creative possibilities, especially for homeschooled kids. One of the gardeners, Derek James Butterfield, is bringing to the garden a profound understanding and practical knowledge about how to restore soil health to allow the Mycorrhiza fungi to thrive. Garden Project manager, Sammy Ringer, is excited that

CHASM (Compassionate Housing Alternative Solutions Maleny) may incorporate a tiny display house in the garden, an affordable alternative home for those who find the average rental prices too high. Local native plant nursery "Forest Heart" and Barung Landcare will be providing a range of native plants to enhance the garden space to attract native wildlife. Artist, Laura Vecmane, is currently working on a mosaic owl sculpture project under the mentorship of local mosaic artist Brett Campbell, supported by Arts Queensland. A priority is to recreate the kids’ play area/sandpit. The previously used wooden logs have served their purpose, so longer-lasting stone boulders will be a wise investment and fun attraction for kids. The Community Garden needs to raise $550 for this cause. Laura will be having an art exhibition from December 8 called “Garden & Art” where 25% of each sold artwork will be donated towards the restoration of the kids’ play area in the community garden. The Community Garden welcomes volunteers, innovative ideas, and practical and financial donations. There is constant ongoing weed management in progress that anyone can help with. Find out more - follow Maleny Co-op Community Garden Facebook page or contact Sammy: 0498 313 068.
This talented mother and daughter duo will be available to share their inspiration and answer questions. if you are not familiar with their work, be prepared to be amazed at the vibrancy and stunning colours they both inject into their work. Both artists are also our Artists of the Month for December, and we will have their newest works in a featured display throughout the month. A growing trend with the Gallery is personalised commissioned works, and both Kendall and Brydie are happy to undertake special requests. Come in and speak to them or our helpful gallery staff about your art requirements. Kendall has an extensive list of successful exhibitions with collectors of her paintings scattered around the globe. As Kendall says, people buy her paintings because they have a feelgood factor, and make them feel happy and alive! if you are considering buying art for Christmas presents, we have an informative article on our website to help you in your decision-making process – artwork is a memorable gift, and an amazing way to show someone how much they mean to you!

The Last Girl
Artemis
The Murderer’s Ape
By Nadia Murad
By Andy Weir
by Jakob Wegelius
A raw, terrifying account of religious genocide and life in captivity under the islamic State by a young yazidi woman who survived it. Nadia Murad was born and raised in Kocho, a small village in northern iraq. A member of the yazidi community, she and her brothers and sisters lived a quiet life. Nadia had dreams of becoming a history teacher or opening her own beauty salon. in 2014, when Nadia was just twenty-one years old, this life ended. islamic State militants massacred the people of her village, executing the men who refused to convert to islam and the women too old to become sex slaves. Today, Nadia's story has forced the world to pay attention to the ongoing genocide in iraq. it is a call to action, a testament to the human will to survive, and a love letter to a lost country, a fragile community, and a family torn apart by war. A devastating yet ultimately inspiring memoir.
At first it was about the money, then it was about the control. Now it’s about survival… From the bestselling author of ‘The Martian’ comes this irresistible near-future adventure. Jazz is a small time criminal, subsidising her low salary as a porter on the moon with a bit of smuggled contraband. Problem is, it’s never enough. When she is offered the chance to get rich quick she jumps at it. With potential gang-infiltration threatening to disrupt the tranquillity of her home, Jazz's get-quick-rich plans are overturned, and she must sacrifice everything if she ever hopes to return her home to its former idyllic glory. Artemis could have been overwhelmed by the political and scientific explanations that feature throughout. it was Jazz's dialogue that lightened the tone and alleviated the sometimes dense descriptions. These two elements worked well together to make this a fast-paced and action-packed sci-fi, yet also a believable and authentic narrative.
Sally Jones is not only a loyal friend, she’s an extraordinary individual. in overalls or in a maharaja’s turban, this unique gorilla moves among humans without speaking but understanding everything. She and the Chief are devoted comrades who operate a cargo boat. A job they are offered pays big bucks, but the deal ends badly, and the Chief is falsely convicted of murder. For Sally Jones this is the start of a harrowing quest for survival and to clear the Chief's name. Powerful forces are working against her, and they will do anything to protect their secrets. A captivating story about dark truths and heinous crimes as well as unexpected friendships, with detailed black-and-white illustrations throughout. Perfect for fans of mystery and detective.

C R E AT I V E C U T S Finbars bring Lee Hardisty
Coming Up at Reflection Gallery
Sam Shepherd LIVE at Finbars
When the members of the Montville Uniting Church set up the Reflection Gallery in Main Street this year, it was with the intention of providing a venue where Christian artists could express themselves through art. Throughout December this is being done from 10am3pm, in conjunction with their annual Christmas display; the theme this year being With the Birth of Jesus a New Day Dawned. A series of beautiful, digitally enhanced sunrise photographs by Ric Todhunter reinforces the theme. The sub-title for the gallery is, Reflecting faith’s experience, and during January, Ron Potter will present reflections on his faith experience, in both poetry and paint.
Lee has been touring the world with music for the past 15 years. His music is honest and lovingly heartfelt, focussed around his great love of his wife, his daughters, his garden and his community. His main instruments include saxophones, guitars, ukuleles, flute, tin whistle, recorders, kalimba, and keys. He has also begun to discover the banjo... Come and see this acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, December 8 from 7pm at Finbars.
Solstice Roots at Crystal Waters

Trudy's love of art developed while studying at high school and teachers' college. She has painted in oils, pastels and acrylics, but her passion at present is experimenting with watercolour. She loves the fact the watercolour paint appears to have a mind of its own, which the artist can utilize to enhance the creativity of the work. in 2017 Trudy was selected as a finalist in the Moreton Bay Region Art Awards and the Redcliffe Art Society’s Exhibition of Excellence. She was also selected to have a solo exhibition in the foyer of the Redcliffe Art Gallery - see her work at Garden Haus Gallery as the artist of the month.

AST MONTH we talked about mulching your soil with traditional mulches such as baled straw or wood and bark chip etc… basically the stuff you have to buy in and that’s grown elsewhere. But what if you could grow your own mulch? Sometimes we do grow our own mulch and just throw it away in the bin! All plants naturally produce mulch as they shed, leaves, stem, bark, branches and eventually themselves as they die and decompose. Plants through their shade, organic matter and their symbiotic relationship with mycorrhizal fungi enrich the soil for future generations of plants (and the everything else – including ourselves!). We can manage this process for our own benefit by planting and working with fast growing plants that provide mulch through their natural leaf fall or through pruning and lopping. you can grow your own mulch and soil improvers, in fact in the long term this is the only solution to creating sustainable and regenerating soils and reduce dependency on fertilisers and mulches from external sources. Native plants that are great for soil improvement include our native Hibiscus spp, Rainforest pioneers like Pipturus, Homalanthus, Macaranga and of course our legumes (who have the bonus ability if adding nitrogen to the soil) such as Acacia spp (usually the smaller ones), Pultenaea spp, Hovea spp, Oxylobium spp, and many more. HOULD yOUR MiND be blank over Xmas gifts, it’s a perfect time after the rain to be adding to the garden and the revegetation projects. Call into the Barung nursery to see what is on offer and give a plant to a friend or family. Failing that, there are a number of excellent books at Barung’s office in the Hinterland Business Centre in Coral St. When choosing plants for a new project, look for canopy trees whose foliage is carried right to the ground. They are great edge sealers that reduce the quantity of weed seeds invading the planting area. Two species worth considering are Syzygium australe, the fast-growing River or Brush cherry (pictured), and Mallotus philippensis, Red Kamala. The latter takes a while to establish but is a hardy and very useful tree, often used as an overnight perch for small birds. The fruit is covered in a red powder, once used as a dye. Structured edge planting makes a
difference to any project. Add lomandra for its dense growth habit low to the ground. in a dry area, native grasses are useful, common ones being Barbed Wire
Grass, Cymbopogon refractus, and Kangaroo Grass, Themeda triandra, formerly Themeda australis. A technique used to help young trees establish is to place a pad of mulch over each prospective planting site. The mulch will conserve moisture, suppress weed growth and allow the soil to become more friable until such time as planting can be done. Three benefits in one and no need to spray unless really nasty vines are infesting the site. Spraying often results in bare soil and therefore more weeds should planting be delayed. it’s also not so good for the beneficial soil microflora, which are encouraged by the mulch layer. it’s a busy time of year but take some time out to enjoy our wonderful environment, and to take advantage of the gift of rain and soil moisture. Happy Xmas from everyone at Barung.

As the 2017 comes to a close we hope everyone has had a wonderful year of gardening and beautifying our planet. Here is an example of an area that was not only difficult to maintain but also difficult to access. Grazing was really the only use. Building this deck across the gully and densely planting out with mostly natives created an easily maintained and enjoyable walkway that completes the circuit walk around Tamarind Retreat.

and vegie patch by incorporating these plants into your plantings. These plants if managed will provide shade and protection from the intense summer sun, strong winds, provide habitat for pest controlling birds and insects and when pruned – mulch. in the case of the Hibiscus and many of the legumes you also get the added benefit of their beautiful flowers. Managing these plants is a simple as going for a stroll with your secateurs, hand saw or whatever cutting implements strikes your fancy and pruning to the desired shape that provides shade and protection to your food bearing plants and all the pruning’s are dropped where required to provide an in-situ mulch source, a permaculture term for this is “chop and drop”. Soil improving plants have been used by traditional subtropical farmers for millennia throughout Melanesia, Polynesia, Africa, SE Asia and the Americas. Permaculturists and forest farmers have adopted these techniques in Australia for many decades but often using exotic plants from these other traditional systems. However, Australia has a great range of plants tried and tested by indigenous Australians also over the millennia, its time for us to catch up and incorporate our native plants not just into our amenity gardens but into our orchards and vegetable gardens, for both beauty and sustainability.

HEN ALL ELSE FAiLS, dangle the prospect a tax cut and hope that the jaded eyes of the voters light up. Well, perhaps it’s not actually a prospect, more of a hint – or just a suggestion of a hint. But Malcolm Turnbull certainly mentioned the idea to an audience of the increasingly irrelevant Business Council, so presumably he intended it to settle in the headlines, which it duly did. At this stage we have no idea how much or when this bonanza is envisaged, let alone how it is to be paid for, and it is likely that Turnbull himself is equally ignorant. All that can be reported is that he says he is talking about it with ministers, which, given the sorry record of how his “conversations” turn out, is not reassuring. But not to worry; there will be pie in the sky, or at least a fistful of dollars at the end of the rainbow. And let’s face it, nothing else seems to be working. But there is a problem; while the attempt to bribe a recalcitrant electorate into submission is an established political tradition, the efficacy is at least questionable. Many years ago the Labor Prime Minister, Ben Chifley, defined the hip pocket nerve as the most sensitive part of a voter’s anatomy and ever since then (if not before) leaders have tried to scratch the itch. The most blatant example in modern times was in 1977 when the government of Malcolm Fraser produced advertisements which showed, literally, a fistful of dollars for the taking. The punters duly took it, but then it was snatched back in a few short months following Fraser’s election win; one headline summed up the episode as “LiES, LiES, LiES.” in 1983 Bob Hawke was running against Fraser with the slogan of reconciliation, recovery and restoration. The New South Wales Premier, Neville Wran, brought the campaign meeting back to earth with the warning: “Delegates, it’s all very well to go on with this spiritual stuff, but if those greedy bastards out there wanted spiritualism, they’d join the fucking Hare Krishna.” immediately, tax cuts were inserted into the policy speech. Hawke’s successor as Prime Minister, Paul Keating, went further: tax cuts were to be included as L-A-W law, but in the end they weren’t, and Keating was dogged by what was seen as a betrayal. And remember Fraser, Hawke and Keating were all regarded as far more effective and reliable than Malcolm Turnbull. So it is unlikely that what Bill Shorten unkindly,
T
HE LONG DRy spell that we had has resulted in some spectacular floral displays by some of our endemic tree species, like the creamy yellow of the Bumpy Ash, Flindersia schottiana, shown in the picture, on Tallowood Street. Also prominent have been the golden Silky Oaks, Grevillea robusta, the vibrant red of the Flame Trees, Brachychiton acerifolius, and even, albiet a little more subdued, the rusty hues of the Native Tamarind, Diploglottis australis, one of my favourites, that are now setting their beautiful juicy fruit. The stress of the drought causes the trees to fear for their lives, which in turn causes them to attempt to reproduce more vigorously, thinking it may be their last chance before they shuffle off this
but accurately, dubbed the Prime Minister’s latest thought balloon will fly – certainly not without putting a lot more air into it. But in a sense it may not matter, because, as always, distractions have overwhelmed Turnbull’s desperate efforts to regain traction on the slippery slope on which he finds (or more likely loses) himself. Last week’s wizard wheeze was the decision to close down parliament for a few days, a clear signal from the leadership group (an oxymoron if there ever was one) to panic, run for cover and pull the blankets over their heads in the hope things will go away. This extraordinary desertion of duty has rightly been characterised not only as chicken-hearted, lily-livered and utterly spineless, but also as incredibly stupid; is an already sceptical public expected to believe that our legislators really have nothing to do until the senate finish talking about the same sex marriage bill? With 53 items clearly listed on the notice paper of the House of Representatives, the proposition is too absurd to contemplate by a rational observer. The public may not be hanging out to watch every moment of the parliamentary sessions, but that does not mean they are happy about the idea of their well-paid representatives skiving off whenever they feel like it. it is not a question of whether Turnbull is scared shitless, but of what? A lost vote in the parliament, the right wing rump, a potential uprising in the party room, or most likely all three. With a couple of numbers already down and the possibility of more to go after his postponed reckoning on universal disclosure, the situation is not benign; but trying to duck it will, as always, only make things worse – as Tony Abbott triumphantly pointed out. Just as it may well be with the same-sex marriage showdown, which, characteristically, Turnbull and his brains trust have attempted to avert with yet another committee, this one to examine the need for what is euphemistically called religious freedom. The personnel involved shows the real aim: the chief inquisitor, Phillip Ruddock, is an old fashioned committed Christian, and his deputy, Frank Brennan, is a Jesuit priest. The last of the trio is the new Human Rights Commissioner, Rosalind Croucher, who has adopted a very low profile following the exit of her predecessor, the redoubtable Gillian Trigg.
mortal coil. Fruit growers use this plant psychology in a similar manner by cutting circulation off to selected limbs with a wire garrotte which results in a profuse flowering on that limb. They then release the wire and allow normal fruit setting to continue, enjoying the increase in quantity. This process is called cincturing. if you have room to plant a large tree, any of the above species would be a wonderful choice. We are enjoying our usual amazing growing conditions, and as i drive around the Range i am still astounded by the almost fluorescent greenness surrounding us, and feel blessed to be living in this natural paradise, and honoured to be working with these woody giants.

The Christians obviously have the numbers, as was intended: there will be an apprehended bias (to put it delicately) that the idea is not religious freedom (already enshrined in the constitution and numerous laws both federal and state) but Christian privilege – further exemptions from secular law. And the idea that other religions, especially islam, should have a similar advantage is, of course, out of the question: stamp out Sharia law! Ban the burqa! So the prevarication devised, we are told, by Peter Dutton is simply putting off the next inevitable stoush. indeed, it may not even do that: Scott Morrison is apparently determined to force his version of religious protection through the same-sex legislation, and Matthias Corman has already decided to plagiarise a human rights convention from the much loathed and derided United Nations to give it some authority. But the serious god-bothers in the party room are not appeased – although of course they never will be. Just to prove the point, one of their most enthusiastic backers, Andrew Bolt, reported that one of them is preparing leave the coalition if Turnbull does not knuckle under – a rat is ready to desert the sinking ship. There have been empty threats from anonymous rebels (and even a couple of empty threats from identified insurgents like George Christensen), so it might not cause Turnbull too much cause to fret – not that he seems to show any, however dire the circumstances. After the past year, surely things can only get better. At least he can look forward to a tax cut …

The festive season is that time of year when people are more vulnerable - Dr edwin Kruys suggest some strategies for mental health wellness, Gay liddington looks into organ donation and Marisa suggests we turn off our Tvs. our classifieds hold jewels of present ideas - send me a massage voucher, please!
R
ESEARCH iNDiCATES that a woman on average speaks 20,000 words per day while for a man it’s 7,000. Now that subject alone could stimulate all manner of banter. We talk about what to eat, engage in workplace dialogue, encourage our children and discuss family matters, politics and religion. However, a subject that has never been raised in my world of discourse is organ donation and i ask why? i recall that i once ticked a box when renewing my driver’s licence. it was a tick of approval done in a moment without too much thought. Then, i recently discovered i need to take another step and join the Australian Organ Donor Register (AODR), a government register administered by Medicare. When the AODR was established in 2000, the tick on your driver’s licence was a state-based record of intention. At the time of a person’s demise it was then up to the deceased’s family to give permission for organ donation to proceed. Since July 1, 2015 legal consent rather than intention by those 18 years and older can be documented. Preexisting registrants were encouraged to re-register. AODR forms are now issued at the time a driver’s licence is renewed or allocated for the first time. The ADOR is purely a register and has no part in the transplant process which may be accessed by authorised medical personnel in consultation with the family. it is wise for potential donors to discuss their plans with family in order that their wishes be carried out.

Donating for the future by Gay Liddington
&
By February 2006 around five million people had registered for organ donation. A campaign involving Medicare and Centrelink sought to extend that number. Australian statistics reveal that in 2016, 503 donors provided 1,447 people with opportunity for a new beginning - the greatest since national records began. Approximately 60% of families participate in this program. Because my life has not been touched by the need for an organ transplant i felt emotionally removed from the idea. Quoting statistics is one thing however, in reading the stories in DonateLife - Book of Life i was stirred at the core of my being. The faces of deceased and living donors invited me to enter their world. i hovered over the face of a baby and memories of my firstborn who died at the age of five months engulfed me. i clicked and read. Taylor was a 15-month old baby girl whose parents donated her organs so that others may have the chance at life that their daughter did not. Two baby boys now live, the result of a gift that keeps on giving. My thoughts separate the physical reality from the spiritual and i know, if i could turn back time i would make the choice for my son to be a donor so that others may live.

Ayurvedic Health Advice to Suit You
Intelligent food

MAPLETON ~ MONTVILLE LE E ~ MALENY M ALENY A EN Y ~ IMBIL IM MB L

iNDiNG THE LATEST superfood has been the quest of the modern age however a vital ingredient in the search for nourishing food Wendy Rosenfeldt is often over looked. intelligence. A food’s intelligence can be loosely translated as nutritional value although it also includes the quality, freshness and degree of life in the food. We understand that we need a balanced diet to provide us with the necessary ingredients for all the different aspects and functions of our bodies. Calcium is good for our teeth and bones, iron helps to transport blood around our bodies while antioxidants fight damaging free radicals. Nutritionalists expound on the amounts of protein, fibre, calcium etc that are found in each particular food. However the form of the food is often ignored. Nutritional values vary widely depending on whether it is organic, fresh, microwaved, tinned, a week old or genetically engineered. An organic orange has 30% more vitamin C than the average supermarket variety. Fresh, organic spinach has 1,500 mg of iron while the nonorganic contains only 19mg. Food cooked or reheated in the microwave has been found to be significantly lower in qualities such as iron but higher in cholesterol. Food can lose its intrinsic intelligence the longer it sits around in the fridge. it is not as if that bag of carrots will remain perfectly nutritional until the magical use by date. Cooked food declines in goodness even more quickly. Food that has been cooked, refrigerated and reheated is only going to increase your free radicals no matter how organic and fresh it was to begin with. What we are really getting out of our food is a quality that has not yet been measured by western science. it is understood in many modalities as prana, the lifeforce or the consciousness of the food.
A seed contains all the necessary information required to grow into a plant. The outcome is an active, living organism. When we eat a fresh tomato or lettuce we are metabolizing the life or intelligence of that food. Like humans, plants need to protect themselves against toxins and pathogens. They create special chemicals for that purpose. When consumed in the form of a wholefood those disease-fighting chemicals retain their intelligence thus benefiting our bodies in much the same way. A poor diet can never be rectified with a handful of supplements. Modern science tends to isolate the active ingredient in a plant and replace the natural ingredient with a synthetic one. This approach compromises the synergies that exist among organic components. Bioflavanoids, found in fresh fruit and vegetables, were originally dismissed in favour of artificial vitamins. They have since been found to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and anti-allergic properties. Food that has been genetically modified provides an even greater struggle. Our bodies have evolved with the food we eat over thousands and thousands of years. When it encounters a new type of food, for example a tomato spliced with a fish gene, it cannot assimilate it. Genetically engineered organisms are often not properly digested and create blockages and confusion in the physiology. There are many reasons to eat a healthy diet other than just to minimize your risk of getting health problems. When you eat well you feel lighter in your body, clearer in the mind and more positive in your moods. your whole physiology functions more easily. intelligent food creates an intelligent physiology. iFE MOVES QUiCKLy. Sometimes days months and years pass without our really noticing except perhaps for the growth and changes we see in those around us. We get busy, we get tired and so we try to switch off, to get some space, some time in our heads to just tune out and tune out we often do. Many of us do this in front of the T.V., which is rarely a good choice. Ever noticed that when you sit down to watch TV you get sleepy and you think you’re relaxing? Well the truth is you’re feeling the same effects as you’d experience in a light trance session. your eyes are set staring straight ahead, your hearing is tuned to whatever you’re watching, your body relaxes and your judgement is a little suspended, and whatever you’re giving this relaxed attention to is going straight into your subconscious and does affect what you accept as ok, and what you let bypass your critical thinking. Even if you choose shows that you might regard as quality viewing, ads will come on , previews of shows you might not choose to watch flash into your mind. Have you noticed how
your ability to tolerate more and more violent viewing, more unpleasant human responses to one another is expanded. And if TV isn't how you chill, perhaps your computer is. And sometimes because life is demanding, its easier to just look at stuff that isn’t too complicated. All the while your own precious brain, the most wonderful computer in existence is being under valued. imagine your life, if you spent your evenings, with no media, interacting with your loved ones, or researching points of interest about how to create a better healthier more financially stable life, connected to the source of what beats your heart. Let this new year, bring you a richer deeper connection with your own potential to live a more joyful and love filled life, one that is not dumbed down with news items that either bore you with their nonsense or scare you with predictions of doom and gloom. your health, your well being and your relationships will benefit.
