Welcome to the 6th Edition of ArtHamptons ArtHamptons is a celebration and homage to the Hamptons longstanding tradition as a world respected hotbed for the creation and patronage of art. Together, we revel in being part of this historically vibrant creative community. As such, ArtHamptons recognizes the many achievements of the late locally renowned painter, Larry Rivers, celebrating his 90th anniversary. As you entered the lobby, you stepped through his sculpture, and invite you to explore his public exhibition on the front wall entitled, Forty Feet of Fashion. This 3-day fine art fair, plus our memorable Opening Night, is by far the most significant art buying event on Long Island–and traditionally one of the highlights of the Hamptons social and cultural summer season. Forty Feet of Fashion: Commemorating Larry Rivers Celebrate the 90th Anniversary of late and beloved local artist, Larry Rivers. Attendees will walk between the legs of one of Larry Rivers’ most famous sculptures at the ArtHamptons Pavilion entrance. Visit our public exhibit, Forty Feet of Fashion, in the front of the fair devoted to his impactful fashion oriented paintings from the 1970s1990. This fitting tribute to one of the Hamptons most famous and enduring artists, who is known to the world as the Godfather of Pop Art, is presented by the Larry Rivers Foundation, and the Tibor d’Nagy Gallery.

Bushwick Bohemia As a fresh juxtaposition to the fair’s Hamptons Bohemia (circa 1950-1970). Curators Andrew Gori and Ambre Kelly of SchoolHouse Projects present Bushwick Bohemia. The group exhibiton will include naturalistic paintings in sculptural frames from Sarah Bereza, Brent Owens’s highly decorative, routed plywood sheets and other young up-and-coming Bushwick-based artists exploring “return to nature” themes in their work. For the past 2 years, Gori and Kelly have been the force behind the SPRING/BREAK Art Show presented in NoLITA as well as prominent programming contributions to the New Musuem’s Ideas City Festival. The Palm Authority Project from Esmeralda Kosmatopoulos Composed of five white inflatable hands ranging in size from 8-14 ft., the piece explores society’s influence on the individual through the metaphor of palmistry. Premiered in Miami Bayfront Park during Art Basel 2011, and has appeared in NY and Toronto during Nuit Blanche 2012. Goodbye My Love from Esterio Segura This dazzling installation, Goodbye My Love, comes to the ArtHamptons Pavilion directly from the Times Square pedestrian walkway connecting West 42nd Street and West 43rd street, off Broadway–at Anita’s Way–the public art venue. Esterio Segura is a pioneer of Cuban contemporary art. This eye-popping installation of 6 planes made of heart shaped bodies is reference to the love in contemporary relationships that often requires people to be separated from each other. As a Cuban artist, Seagura’s piece also resonates with those who sometimes must be separated from their families in order to leave their countries. This work was part of the 2012 Havana Biennial. International in scope, ArtHamptons is giving visibility to an important emerging artist coming from an economically and politically challenged country. He is represented by Saltfineart, booth 202B. 8

GABI explores hot and cold spaces in nature and fantasy, born at Robert Wilson’s The Watermill Center and developed in Brooklyn. Carole A. Feuerman is internationally recognized as one of the world’s most prominent hyper-realist sculptors with a prolific career spanning four decades. Feuerman sculpts life-size, monumental and miniature works in bronze, resin, and marble. She has had six museum retrospectives to date and been included in the Venice Biennale (currently), The State Hermitage, The Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, the Kunstmusuem Ahlen and the Circulo de Bellas Artes. Presented by David Joel, Executive Director, Larry Rivers Foundation. David Joel discusses the life and times of the “Godfather of Pop Art”, as we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the late Southampton based artist. This presentation explores the displayed works of Larry Rivers–Forty Feet of Fashion, and his remarkable entrance sculpture, and you’ll discover why Rivers is considered one of America’s most important post-war artists. Fairgoers will learn how the artist combined realistically rendered images with a loosely brushed, quasi-abstract background. ArtHamptons 2013 | 11

Larry Rivers Hamptons Bohemia Featured Artist On this which would be his 90th birthday, as always, attaching a singularly defining label to Larry Rivers has remained an elusive task for many who have tried to contextualize his over 50 year contribution to the arts. Rivers was an accomplished Jazz musician, a painter, sculptor, poet, actor, television personality, filmmaker, an MC at nightclubs, a popular personality on the lecture circuit, author and teacher. He’s been aptly referred to as “a renaissance man,” but perhaps he’s most often recognized and ironically at times equally underappreciated as one of if not the key founding fathers of Pop Art. The mission of the Larry Rivers Foundation is to advance, serve, solidify and share the creative legacy of Larry Rivers. The Foundation honors the artist’s versatility, his independent spirit, and experience as an educator. It is their responsibility to embrace Larry’s unique personality in accord with his art. It is in this capacity that they recognize his passion for inquiry as an incentive to stimulate future initiatives. David Joel is the Executive Director of the Larry Rivers Foundation.
The winner of three Pulitzer prizes for drama (A Delicate Balance–1967, Seascape–1975,Three Tall Women–1994) three Tony awards (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? –1963, The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?– 2002). He received a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement (2005)–the Gold Medal in Drama from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters (1980), and the National Medal of the Arts (1996). Mr. Albee will be saluted for his philanthropic support of the arts. For more than 4 decades, the playwright has used his eponymous foundation to fund The Barn in Montauk and its 4-6 week creative residencies. Visual artists and writers in need are provided with studio space and housing to create a body of new work. Mr Albee has long been a passionate and astute art collector, and visits the fair annually. Faith Ringgold 2013 Lifetime Achievement Honoree

Saul Leiter 2013 Lifetime Achievement Honoree Saul Leiter, 90, has made enormous and unique contributions to the world of photography. His abstracted forms and innovative compositions have a painterly quality that stands out among the work of his New York School contemporaries of the 1940’s and 1950’s. He is known for his painted photographs of nudes on which he has actually applied layers of gouache and watercolor. His color photography appeared in Esquire and Harper’s Bazaar in the late 1950’s and he continued to work as a fashion photographer for the next 20 years. Leiter is the subject of a 2013 documentary, In No Great Hurry-13 Lessons in Life with Saul Leiter. At ArtHamptons, an exhibition of his work is on display alongside the HackelBury Fine Art booth. He will be interviewed at his exhibition on July 12, noon-1pm, by Ann Chwatsky, Professor at NYU

Edward Albee 2013 Arts Patron of the Year
Faith Ringgold is a painter, writer and mixed media sculptor who is best known for her painted story quilts. A professor emeritus at the Universality of California, San Diego, where she taught from 1987-2002, she is the recipient of more than 75 awards including 22 Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts Degrees. She has received fellowships and grants that include the National Endowment for the Arts for sculpture (1978) and for painting (1989) In addition, she has written and illustrated 17 children’s books, her first being the award winning, Tar Beach. Her work is in the public collections of leading museums including The Met, The National Museum of American Art, MoMA, Solomon Guggenheim Museum, The Boston Museum of Fine Art, The Baltimore Museum, The High Museum of Fine Art. She is represented by ACA Galleries.
