6th Annual
August 13-16, 2015 Aspen Ice Garden, Aspen, CO | www.art-aspen.com
Welcome to the 6th edition of ArtAspen We are pleased to showcase a strong sampling of important contemporary art, presented by nearly 30 respected dealers, nationwide. ArtAspen pays homage to the city’s well-earned reputation as a smart and sophisticated center for fine art. Now in its 6th successful year, ArtAspen is a “must attend” for these art patrons, collectors and enthusiasts. Fairgoers are invited to carefully explore the exhibits on display and discover the finest works by emerging, mid-career and master artists. Philanthropy is the theme this year, as the fair raises funds for six deserving local non-profits through silent auctions of artwork. Please review the following pages for specific dates and times for each charity event. Our museum curator weekend retreat includes insightful panel discussions–giving you a behind the scenes look at the current issues and challenges facing museum curating. I encourage meeting our 2015 Honorary Artist, Bernie Taupin on Friday, August 14, and view his retrospective, Blue Print, curated by Mark Borghi Fine Art. Take advantage of the remarkable selection of treasures for every budget level showcased in this boutique fair. So go ahead–indulge yourself! On behalf of our sponsors, partners, the entire hardworking team, we hope you enjoy the Fair experience. Sincerely,
Rick Friedman Founder, Executive Director

“To quote Duke Ellington, everyone should be proficient in two things,” says Taupin. “Music & Art is an inevitable collision. I’ve always maintained that music is sonic art for the ears and that artwork is visual music for the eyes, it’s ridiculous to assume that the two can’t exist in the same vortex.” “I personally gravitated from one to the other because I desired to create on a different topical level and simply because visceral visual art exerts an almost narcotic drive in me. Composition of song took up so little of my time perhaps all told a month a year! Art is with me 24/7.”

Gala Kavachnina, Director; Katherine Patino, Director Asistant Kavachnina Contemporary has been a leading fixture in Miami’s Contemporary art scene for twenty years. Gala Kavachnina, gallery founder and director, has taken admirable risks to bring art to her space that seeks to open viewers to more than superficial noodling in what can be an intimidating art world. Gallery has long embraced unpredictability in its exuberant exhibitions, rendering an mélange of cultures and ideas across the canvas of the public view. The Gallery’s successful curatorial philosophy is consciously provocative yet inherently cerebral, bringing both highly-talented young and long established local and international artists to an ample, welcoming space. As its international repertory grows, Gallery’s priority is maintaining and developing its privileged relationships with artists, attendees, collectors and friends of prestigious local and international cultural institutions.

Peter Hastings Falk, Managing Director; Randall W. Johnson, Managing Director; Gillian Bryce, Research & Development; Ronald K. Parker, Marketing Here are discoveries that matter. Discoveries of intrinsic value. We are the leading scholars discovering Post War and Contemporary artists and estate collections that have undeservedly slipped through the cracks of art history. We are highly selective–artists are identified, vetted, and elected by our Art Advisory Board of tough critics. Our mission is to present extraordinary chapters in American art history to collectors, museum curators, gallerists, and fellow historians. In an art world too often filled with hype and fluff, we build strong scholarly foundations for each artist estate or late career artist. Hanging here today are works by four compelling artists with equally compelling back stories. For forty years, Peter Hastings Falk and his staff have found satisfaction in bringing true masters to light–and we cherish holding their reputations in trust.
