Welcome to the Fifth Annual

Palm Springs Fine Art Fair Welcome to the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair 2016. This year marks the 5th edition of the fair and we would like to thank our longtime and new exhibitors, Host Committee, Cultural Partners, and sponsors for their support of the fair. We are delighted to present awards to distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts: 2016 Patrons of the Year, Barbara and Jerry Keller; 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Larry Bell; and 2016 Photographer of the Year, Ralph Gibson. We hope you join us in celebrating and congratulating all three awardees at this year’s fair. Thank you, also, to the Palm Springs Art Museum for their continued support. We are pleased to have this year’s Opening Night Preview of the fair benefit the museum. The programming and events for this year’s fair offer great insight into the arts, both here in the desert and on a wider scale. Be sure to take advantage of these rich conversations with luminaries such as LA-based architect, Frederick Fisher, artist Larry Bell, Palm Springs Art Museum Chief Curator Katherine Hough, Broad Museum Curator Ed Schad, and writer/ critic Peter Frank, among many others. Finally, on behalf of everyone at Urban Expositions, we are thrilled to be a part of the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair and look forward to being a part of this community. We look forward to building upon the quality and reputation of the fair, and to working with participating galleries to present the highest caliber artwork in this magnificent setting! We hope you enjoy the 2016 Palm Springs Fine Art Fair! Donna Davies Vice President, Art Group Urban Expositions

Special Exhibits Oculus Clamantis in Deserto: Splendor and Disaster in the California Outback Curated by Peter Frank, this special presentation samples the work of several artists, both local and Los Angeles-based, who have embraced the desert as a spiritual and/or social as well as physical site. They view the desert not as a wasteland, but as a terrain as fragile and poignant as it is harsh and alien – an ecosystem stabilized by its inherent contradictions and at the same time threatened by new ones. Participating artists include: Bill Leigh Brewer, Alexander de Cadenet, Carol Es, Doron Gazit, David Greene, Mark Indig, Deborah Martin, Osceola Refetoff, Stephanie Schneider, and Susanna Schulten.

Bill Leigh Brewer, Wonder Valley.July 1, 2015

Desert In-Site: Cristopher Cichocki Cristopher Cichocki is an internationally recognized artist who lives and works in the desert of Southern California’s Coachella Valley. He creates artworks of intersecting media: painting, photography, sculpture, video, sound, light and installation. Cichocki’s latest desert-inspired artwork will be on view in a special presentation at the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair.

Fabulosus Fabularis: An installation by JT Burke Fabulosus Fabularis (Google Latin – “Legendary Mythology”) is an 18’ tall monument to the power of mythology and the authority that it assumes in our society. Its incomprehensible letters and mysterious symbols surround image vignettes that suggest tales of heroism and drama, canon law and ancient wisdom, good and evil, dominance and submission. Composed from detailed photos of found costume jewelry purchased at swap meets and estate sales, the elaborate imagery of man-made creations of beauty are used as the building blocks for every element in JT Burke’s highly manipulated, digital compositions.
