This three-day international fine art fair is the most significant art buying event of the year in Aspen. Internationally acclaimed for decades as an art mecca because of its abundance of art collectors and patrons, Aspen deserves its very own world-class fine art fair. We are pleased to showcase today’s most vibrant art sector – post-war and contemporary art, while paying homage to Aspen’s well-earned reputation as an important fine art marketplace. Casting a global net, we assembled 28 respected galleries from around the world showing $100 million in important mid-20th and 21st century art. More than 2,000 art treasures are on display for viewing and sale, representing the best work of some 200 respected artists. By presenting this visually compelling experience, our goal is not only to establish ArtAspen as one of the cultural and social highlights of the Aspen season but also to make it a must-see on the calendars of globetrotting art cognoscenti. ArtAspen 2011 is proudly produced in cooperation with Aspen Art Museum. Both admissions from ticket sales and a portion of art sales from the Opening Preview on Saturday morning benefit the museum. What a terrific way to be able to buy a work of art and make a contribution to the Aspen Art Museum at the same time! While many fair organizers promote the philosophy that bigger is better, ArtAspen takes a completely different approach. We believe that a carefully vetted and select number of displays will be more in keeping with Aspen’s cultural mandate of presenting only the best of the best. As such, only a portion of the many galleries that applied to exhibit here were selected. We believe that by presenting a boutique fair, attendees will experience a more impactful, comprehensive and manageable show. To stimulate the art viewing and acquisition process, we have created an array of dazzling events and receptions throughout all three days. The gallery’s exhibitions have provided a groundbreaking reinvestigation of important mid-20th century West Coast abstract painters. Hard-Edge painters Lorser Feitelson, Karl Benjamin and Helen Lundeberg have each been featured in extensive retrospective exhibitions. Local legend Frederick Wight has also been presented in retrospective. All these artists will be prominently featured in The Getty Museum’s Fall 2011 exhibition Pacific Standard Time: Art in LA 1945 – 1980. Nancy Hoffman Gallery opened in SoHo in 1972, among the first contemporary galleries downtown to show paintings, sculpture, drawings, photographs, video, and installations. In October 2008, after more than 35 years in SoHo, the gallery moved to its new home at 520 West 27th Street in Chelsea, a light-filled space with majestically high ceilings and a sculpture garden. Ten years ago the gallery commenced an active and ongoing Projects Space gallery to showcase younger artists.
