Visit. Experience. Collect. Welcome to ArtHamptons 2011. Let this informative Show Catalog serve as your guide to the 4th Annual ArtHamptons. This threeday international fine art fair, plus opening night preview party, is by far the most significant art event on Long Island – and one of the highlights of the Hamptons social and cultural summer season. So much the case, that the USA Network’s hit TV show Royal Pains, in efforts to portray the quintessential Hamptons experience, has reenacted the fair in an upcoming episode to air August 17 at 9pm and is viewed by 7 million people. A New and Improved Fair • This year’s offerings have been significantly streamlined from last year’s, now showcasing a heavily vetted 77 dealers (as opposed to 97) – providing a more cogent and distilled viewing experience. • With galleries hailing from nine countries, the flavor of the year is global. Brace yourself for the British Invasion; no less than 11 dealers from London have traveled across the pond expressly to meet you. • This year marks the debut of photoHamptons, a world-class presentation of fine art photography and the widest selection ever presented in the Hamptons. Our elite roster of photo dealers represent the best in modern, post-modern and contemporary photography as well as video. • The fair has reached new heights this year with formidable cultural partnerships and media/sponsorship support, and an unsurpassed caliber of gallery representing more than 500 notable artists, and showing 4,000 important post-war and contemporary works of art. • Always philanthropic, each day’s gate receipts will benefit a worthy local non-profit -- Opening Night: LongHouse Reserve; Friday: Guild Hall; Saturday: Bridgehampton Historical Society; Sunday: Parrish Art Museum. • I invite you to meander through our bucolic 15,000 square-foot Outdoor Sculpture Gardens and our upgraded new 50,000 square-foot, state-of the-art modular building, the largest tent structure ever erected on Long Island. We’ve created an action-packed schedule of events to stimulate your art viewing experience. Consult the following pages for details of all the provocative activities. ArtHamptons, as always, offers you a broad spectrum of media from post-war to contemporary–ranging from important paintings, watercolors, and printed editions to photography, sculpture and art glass. There is something very special for every level of collector. And there’s no better time to invest in art. Enjoy the show. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT

Honoring Celebrated Abstract Expressionist Mary Abbott

AWARD

The 2011 ArtHampton Lifetime Achievement Award is an annual distinction bestowed on an artist who has made a significant contribution to the visual arts. This year’s recipient is Southampton resident, painter Mary Abbott, whose outstanding career has spanned more than 60 years. Mary made her debut among the first generation of the American Abstract Expressionists, otherwise known as the New York School. Abbott earned critical and public success by exhibiting at the most prominent galleries of that era. Past awardees include Donald Sultan, Jane Wilson, Will Barnet, Elliott Erwitt, and Lillian Bassman. Meet Mary at the fair where she will be signing catalogs. • Saturday, July 9, 12noon to 2p.m.: Booth 114

Russell Simmons and his brother Danny Simmons to Receive Arts Patron Of The Year Award USA Today calls Russell Simmons one of the “Top 25 Most Influential People of the Past 25 Years.” Both Russell and his brother – artist, poet and author – will be recognized for their work as Co-Founders of the Rush Foundation for the Arts, their nonprofit organization that provides more than 2,000 under-privileged children each year with valuable access to the arts. “Art saves lives, it’s that simple,” says Russell who will be present along with his brother to receive the award and to hold a book signing of both of their latest works: Super Rich: A Guide to Having It All by Russell Simmons, and I Dreamed My People Were Calling But I Couldn’t Find My Way Home by Danny Simmons. • Saturday, July 9, 5p.m. to 6p.m.: Collector’s Lounge 6

Special Events Full Circle: Before They Were Famous Hamptons Film Premiere The short documentary, based on newly published images of Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana by photographer William John Kennedy, offers a rare look into the lives and working studios of two key artists who influenced the course of 20th century American art. Filled with revealing and funny anecdotes, the fast paced documentary includes interviews with Indiana, Ultra Violet and Taylor Mead. Ultra Violet and Taylor Mead will be part of the panel discussion immediately following the screenings of the film, and will be signing a limited edition print photographed by William John Kennedy in 1964. This limited edition print is exclusive to ArtHamptons and can only be purchased at the fair. 40 minute running time. • Friday, July 8, 3p.m.: ArtHamptons Theatre • Saturday, July 9, 3p.m.: ArtHamptons Theatre • Saturday, July 9, 6p.m.: ArtHamptons Theatre

Ultra Violet One of Warhol’s constant companions of the 60s and muse of Salvador Dali in the 50s, Ultra Violet will be signing her book Famous For Fifteen Minutes: My Years with Andy Warhol. The book is an intimate and personal account of the Factory, Andy Warhol’s original New York City studio from 1962 to 1968, and its world of art, drugs, and sex. • Saturday, July 9, 4p.m. to 5 p.m.: Collector’s Lounge

Public Installation: David Datuna Artist, David Datuna will recreate a partial installation of Chaotic Past, a fervent expression of stacked dishwashers, mixed with his wall sculptures, both depicting the gluttony for products of a highlydeveloped consumer society. The artist is fascinated with useful objects and their symbolism within our culture, and cleverly captures our post-industrial essence in this new series of work. Though both his wall sculptures and the site-specific installation appear chaotic, they are in fact a commentary on urban archeology, referencing unprecedented technological prowess together with the lack of sensitivity towards its products. • Booth 169B

Art elevates the human spirit in a way that nothing else does. It changes people’s lives, one experience at a time. Not really a product, it’s an emotional experience. Gallery Sam offers quality examples by important American, European, Asian and indigenous artists from the mid-20th century to the present, and our diverse inventory includes more than 800 paintings and sculptures. We showcase many legendary figures of the art world as well as more contemporary artists whose beautiful and emotionally expressive works bring joy and meaning into the lives of discerning collectors worldwide. Although most of our paintings are by well-known artists, we also seek out artists who are overlooked, undervalued and haven’t achieved the celebrity of some of their contemporaries but who nevertheless have painted superior works. The gallery has placed works of art in major public, private, and corporate collections. Our extensive knowledge of the art world spans a wide range of artists and media, allowing us to offer art advisory and curatorial services to all levels of private and corporate collections. Artists Represented Stanley Boxer, Ernest Briggs, James Brooks, Edward Dugmore, Joseph Fiore, Shirley Goldfarb, Willy Heeks, Roy Lerner, Fred Mitchell, Robert S. Neuman, Alfonso Ossorio, Gabor Peterdi, Peter Reginato, Milton Resnick, John Saccaro, Jon Schueler, Francine Tint

WE’VE SOLD MORE JAGUARS THAN ANYONE IN THE WORLD, SINCE 1938.

XFR... It’s a compelling blend of sophisticated highway cruiser and ferocious back-road bruiser, wrapped in a handsome set of clothes. Arguably, it’s the best looking car in It’s class, i.e., that group of sedans with more horsepower than you’d ever really need. Car and Driver August 2009

Class, comfort, technology, performance; the car that best strikes a balance among them (without competing with your mortgage payment,) is quite possibly the Jaguar XF Supercharged. Road & Track - May 2010

The Art Of Nurturing. The Botran Family has created a unique style of rums through an uncompromising dedication to quality and superior taste. We harvest and press the finest sugar cane on our estate in southern Guatemala to create the basis for our rums. The rum is distilled and taken to the mountains for aging through a unique Solera process, in a combination of American Whiskey, re-charred American Whiskey, Sherry and Port barrels. Through this nurturing process, we have created Botran Reserva and Botran Solera1893, two exquisite rums true to our signature style – rums with complexity, depth, richness and natural sweet notes.

24M: THE DRIVE4COPD MONUMENT Inspired by the iconic DRIVE4COPD pinwheel that symbolizes a person’s ability to breathe and created by internationally renowned artist and sculptor Michael Kalish

24M: THE DRIVE4COPD MONUMENT is a visual representation of the impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the United States. 24M is the newest initiative of the DRIVE4COPD campaign to encourage the public to take action to see if they may be at risk. To expand the movement and reach people through art, the campaign has partnered with Kalish to catapult COPD and the DRIVE4COPD pinwheel icon into the national spotlight. 24M is comprised of 24 pinwheels, each standing between eight to 14 feet tall with a six-foot span to represent the estimated 24 million Americans who may have COPD. DRIVE4COPD is a landmark public health movement aimed at driving fundamental change in COPD awareness in this country. The initiative aims to help millions of people affected by COPD by focusing national attention on this common and debilitating disease.

Go to DRIVE4COPD.COM for more information, exclusive video, and download a walking tour script and audio tour. Site visitors can also take a brief five-question screener to see if they may be at risk for COPD.
