Welcome to the 5th Edition of ArtHamptons This year we celebrate and pay homage to the Hamptons longstanding tradition as an area renowned for the creation and patronage of art. As such, the ArtHamptons 2012 theme is the centenary of legendary Springs painter, Jackson Pollock. Upon entering the lobby, you have stepped onto a replica of the now famous drip paint stained floor of his art studio, which is a national landmark. Important photos and replica paintings (from the 2000 award winning movie “Pollock”) grace our lobby. This 3 day fine art fair, plus memorable Opening Night, is by far the most significant art buying event on Long Island and traditionally one of the highlights of the Hamptons social and cultural summer season. RIDE A LEGEND EAST TO THE SEA. Since 1974, more than 10 million people have taken the Jitney to and from the Hamptons. That’s more people in more buses than any other means of transportation in the history of the Hamptons. That’s how legends are made. RIDE THE LEGEND

We present to you 77 local, national and international dealers with galleries participating from 10 countries. Select from 3,000 significant works of arts, representing the finest work of 400 notable artists. Our galleries are showcasing some of the finest post-war and contemporary art on the market today. Our long list of special events includes meeting this years’ honorees. We are pleased to present acclaimed artist Ed Moses with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Legendary Hollywood comic/actor/art pioneer and collector Cheech Marin is awarded this years Arts Patron of the Year. Venerable photographer Michael Childers is our Honorary Guest Photographer. We present several installation of note. As you enter the fair, you will see the now famous college photos of President Barrack Obama in an exhibition entitled, “Barrack Obama: The Freshman + 1” presented by Mark Borghi Fine Art. Marilyn Dintenfass’s huge front wall mural is presented by Babcock Galleries. Take time to visit the dramatic Boris Lurie exhibition, presented by his eponymous Art Foundation and Westwood Gallery. ArtHamptons, as always, is philanthropic. Opening night gate benefits LongHouse Reserve. On Friday day, the gate is dedicated to Guild Hall. Friday night’s soiree, “Pollock at 100: a Centennial Celebration” benefits the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center. On Saturday, we contribute to the Empire State Pride Agenda and their 20th Hamptons Tea Dance, as well as the important East End Hospice. JACK THE DRIPPER Our platinum and VIP cardholders will have the opportunity to drip paint on a huge canvas as they enter the fair’s lobby. Everyone becomes Jack the he Dripper, adding their creative energy to this powerful, multi-artist colorful painting. This art work will be displayed throughout the 3 day event. As fairgoers enter, they will step upon an replica of the now famous paint–stained floor in his Springs art studio. The ArtHamptons lobby is filled with 1950’s photos of artist Jackson Pollock painting in his studio and 2 large replica drip paintings that appeared in the 2000 award-winning movie, “Pollock” (one painted by the film’s director and star, Ed Harris). Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree Meet legendary painter Ed Moses Saturday, July 14, 1-2pm – VIP Lounge View his Public Retrospective in booth A12, during fair hours, curated by Mark Borghi Fine Art Ed Moses, 85, is considered one of the most innovative and central figures of post-war West Coast art. He was one of the first artists to exhibit at the now famous Ferus Gallery in L.A. Living in NYC in late 1950s his friends/colleagues included DeKooning, Kline, Rothko and Resnick. In 1980 Moses received a Guggenheim Fellowship. Today, his art is in the public collections of virtually every major museum in America. We salute half a century of his accomplishments.

CHEECH MARIN
Primarily known as an actor, director and performer Marin has developed the finest private collection of Chicano art in the country. He states, “Chicano art is American art. My goal is to bring Chicano to the forefront of the art world.” His traveling exhibition, broke attendance records during its groundbreaking 15 city tour during 2007-2011. He has authored 3 books on the topic. At ArtHamptons, Mr. Marin curates the Thomas Paul Gallery booth (B21) to introduce the next generation of gifted Chicano artists.

Mr. Childers is a renowned film, dance and theater photographer for over 40 years. He was founding photographer for Andy Warhol’s Interview, and After Dark, . He has photographed 200+ magazine covers including GQ, New York, Esquire, Elle, Life and Vogue. He created 100 film posters for major motion picture studios. Since 1996, he has worked solely on fine art photography and book projects. In 2000, he published his first collection of photographs in the book, “Hollywood Voyeur” with intro by David Hockney. 8

The gallery provides a unique platform for South Asian artists to exhibit in the United States. Alongside in-depth, focused solo shows, the gallery present a programme of curated group exhibitions that are international in their scope and ambition. Following recent debates in institutional curating, the programme deliberately encompasses contemporary art and art made through the latter half of the 20th century. Through this we aim to produce unexpected congruencies, shed light on other modernities, make complex the designation ‘contemporary’ and signal a shift away from simple survey exhibitions. With critical exhibitions of work by emerging and contemporary South Asian artists, one of Aicon’s primary goals is to create a space for dialog and cross-collaboration between the arts of India, Pakistan, and the west. In 1986 he began converting an old Bridgehampton farm into an art complex consisting of sculpture fields, galleries, workshops and the famous hand-crafted ‘elliptical house’. The First World War saw a period of increased experimentation in expressionism in both figuration and abstraction. Many artists painted in the late ‘teens in a vigorous expressionist style. In the 1920s, we see examples of a more graceful lyrical abstraction and a renewed focus on beauty. The geometric abstraction of the 30s and 40s pioneered by the artists of the Russian Constructivist movement, the Bauhaus and der Sturm, emphasized order and control, in contrast to the increasing chaos of the time. With the culmination of WWII in 1945, the desire for liberation and freedom evident in the art of the ‘teens took hold again. In marched a new generation of abstract expressionist artists, with Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning at the vanguard. Order and Chaos in Mid-Century Modernism examines this cycle of expression. Her vision was to make original lithographs and artist books, and she began working with artists such as Larry Rivers, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg. Bill Goldston joined Grosman in 1969 and has since worked with younger artists and master printers in the mediums of stone and offset lithography, intaglio, woodcut, digital printing, and bookmaking to continue Grosman’s legacy. Today ULAE is represented in the collections of many major museums including The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Tate Gallery in London and the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. The Museum of Modern Art in New York began acquiring the first impression of every edition published by ULAE in 1960 and still continues that tradition today. Walter Wickiser, Director; Jiyeon Jung, Assistant Director The Walter Wickiser Gallery, located in the prestigious Fine Art Building in Chelsea – located at 210 Eleventh Avenue, Suite 303, New York, NY 10001 – was established in 1992 in Soho, New York. Walter Wickiser is the son of the artist Ralph L. Wickiser (19101998) who exhibited with Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Georgia O’Keeffe and who created and was formerly the Chairman of the graduate art programs at Pratt Institute from 1962-1978. Walter Wickiser’s career as an art dealer formally began in 1990 in Soho, NY, when he became the first director of the first gallery to be established in the United States, from mainland China. This led to establishing his primary direction as a gallerist to exhibit work by both American and Asian-American painters, as well as artists from China, Japan and Korea. It has always been the focus of the Wickiser Gallery to create a visual dialogue between these cultures.
