Welcome to the first major international Houston Fine Art Fair. The fair was created to acknowledge the city’s reputation as a vibrant cultural center, with a thriving visual art scene, world-class museums, top arts organizations and a knowledgeable and sophisticated group of arts supporters. The idea for the fair began with a conversation with the remarkable Peter Marzio, the late director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, as he expressed his desire that Houston have its own international fine art fair. As the fair began to take shape, he astutely recommended Victoria and Marshal Lightman as local allies. We are very pleased that so many of Houston’s leading museums, civic and cultural institutions, galleries and host committee members joined with us early on, and have been generously supportive throughout. Please explore the fantastic booths created by the 80 participating galleries, who came to Houston from 13 countries, each showing a range of important artwork from contemporary and modern masters, emerging and mid-career artists, and today’s hottest art stars. There are special exhibitions, installations, and performances, as well as an informative and entertaining lecture program exploring the latest trends and topics in contemporary art, and geared to both novice and experienced collectors. The fair is proud to announce the first annual Lifetime Achievement Award to internationally renowned painter Donald Sultan, who will be here to meet attendees, and to participate in the lecture program on Saturday morning. We believe that HFAF is an important addition to fine art fair calendar. On behalf of Fran Kaufman, Show Director and the entire staff, we invite you to explore, enjoy and help us to make this annual event an amazing art experience. Sincerely,

Rick Friedman Rick Friedman President, Hamptons Expo Group

Isaac Perelman, Co-Director; Alfredo Guzman, Co-Director Miami-based Dot Fiftyone Gallery focuses on contemporary emerging art. Founded in 2003 by Alfredo Guzman and Isaac Perelman, both from Argentina, the gallery aims to be a production laboratory for conceptual and contemporary art as much as an exhibition space. Dot Fiftyone’s objective is to create a conduit between the artists and the community (both local and global) by generating a flexible and mobile structure accessible to all. The directors select primarily emerging international artists whose work retains lasting impact. Though the gallery established its reputation as a leader in contemporary Latin American art, today the gallery strives to erase the gap between geographically diverse cultures, as the directors believe these boundaries do not exist in the artists’ intentions. Workshops, educational television, lectures, events, and philanthropy, have all been part of the Dot program. Once here, far from becoming frozen in their innovative and critical view, they have developed several production strategies in a time that refers, not only to post-utopia in Cuba, but in the world at large. For her part, Gladys Triana, member of a previous generation, reflects on the investment of utopia from exile, in a pictorial piece where the violence of being uprooted is made subtle, even becoming part of a game.

Sally Waranch, owner and director Sally Waranch opened her gallery in the heart of Fullerton 19 years ago, and now she’s moved the business to Anaheim’s reborn downtown. Art has been moving Waranch for as long as she can remember. It led her to abandon an acting career in 1987. She had just adopted the stage name Sarah Bain and the gallery has held that moniker ever since. “When I was acting, every time I got a check I would use some of the money to buy art,” Waranch said.“But the dealers were so snobby. No one really talked to me about art or how to get started as a collector. I decided I’d show them how to do it better.” Waranch makes a point of welcoming fledgling collectors. The gallery whose clients include Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Bassett, Laurence Fishburne and Burt Reynolds, specializes in works by emerging artists. Waranch travels the country visiting colleges and art schools to seek out new talent. Known for a keen eye for talent, her last big find was Alyssa Monks, a graduate of the New York Academy whose career has continually achieved momentum and placed her into the national spotlight. Artists Represented: Michael Brown, Paul Davies, Ray Donley, Kathy Jones, Alyssa Monks, Kelly O’Neal, Lee Price, Ray Turner, Pamela Wilson, Mary Zarbano

Lisa Schroeder, Co-owner; Sara Jo Romero, Co-owner; Mark Shortliffe, Director In 2009 Schroeder Romero joined forces with Shredder forming Schroeder Romero & Shredder. This new hybrid program is comprised of an exhibition of a contemporary artist’s work buttressed by a separate show of related historical material, providing a new, deeper context. As Schroeder Romero & Shredder we relocated our dynamic new program in October 2010 to a 4,000-square-foot space in Chelsea. Combining the contemporary work of Schroeder Romero’s artists with important historical and modern works from Shredder, we present dual exhibitions running contiguously, encouraging a unique dialogue between past and present to create a multilayered and timeless experience. Roberta Smith of the New York Times wrote in January 2011 of the dual exhibitions, “The shows’ invigorating call and response bodes well for future interactions between these side-by-side entities.” Artists Represented Brice Brown, Charles Browning, Lordan Bunch, Susan Graham, Eric Heist, Laurie Hogin, Andy Diaz Hope, Scott Hunt, Laurel Roth, Bill Rowe, Ted Victoria, Michael Waugh, Ken Weaver

Christa Schuebbe, Owner & Gallery Director; Daniele Ebling, Gallery Assistant Since its founding in 1975, Galerie Schuebbe Projekt has specialized in international contemporary art. In 2008 the gallery was christened Schuebbe Projects, uniting the gallery´s traditional vision with its shift of focus (new artists, new exhibition space). Early on the gallery heralded the renaissance of the Munich art group SPUR (Lothar Fischer, Helmut Sturm, Heimrad Prem and HP Zimmer). In the 80s the gallery discovered the artists’ group DARM (Dag Seemann, Armin Tölke, Reinhold Braun and Matthias Köster). Amidst the art scene of Duesseldorf and the renowned Academy of Arts, the Kunstsammlung K20 and the Duesseldorfer Kunsthalle a project room was founded. The premises remain a great platform for emerging artists. For a decade the gallery has focused on Chinese contemporary art, presenting artists such as Zeng Fanzhi, Feng Zhengjie, Wei Jia, Li Jikai and Pu Jie. Director Christa Schuebbe is one of Germany’s most experienced gallerists having worked with young, contemporary and emerging art for more than 30 years. Bill Goldston, Director Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) is a fine art print publisher located in Bay Shore, New York founded in 1957 by Tatyana Grosman. Grosman’s vision was to make original lithographs and artist books, and she began working with artists such as Larry Rivers, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg. The work that came out of the print shop sparked a revival of printmaking in the US in the late 50s and 60s. Bill Goldston joined Grosman in 1969 and has since worked with younger artists and master printers in the mediums of stone and offset lithography, intaglio, woodcut, digital printing, and bookmaking to continue Grosman’s legacy. Today ULAE is represented in the collections of many major museums including The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London. The Museum of Modern Art in New York began acquiring the first impression of every edition published by ULAE in 1960 and still continues that tradition today.
