FEBRUARY 14-17, 2013 Palm Springs Convention Center

Welcome to the Second Annual

Palm Springs Fine Art Fair We are delighted to present the residents of the Coachella Valley with an expansive yet rigorously selected display of important post war and contemporary art. Our lineup of 55 top tier galleries–from 25 cities and 3 countries– are showing the highest caliber of fine art. Select from a wide range of over 300 respected artists, ranging from brilliant upand-comers to the big name masters. While presenting more galleries than last year, the fair is still limited in size, and has a boutique flavor so as to provide fairgoers with a cogent and comprehensive viewing experience. This year’s edition is packed with stimulating and inspirational components over the 4 days to enhance your artistic journey. Don’t miss our public retrospective of Mel Ramos, entitled, Mel RamosPop Icon: The First 50 Years, intelligently curated by Imago Galleries. Grab a seat at the much anticipated Friday panel: The Art of Shooting Stars, presented by the Palm Springs International Film Festival and the Desert Sun. We have assembled the most forward thinking museum curators in the southwest, and benefit from their clever insights on better positioning and integrating their institutions within their respective communities. Sign up for a guided tour of the fair each day with the curators. Catch the latest trends on collecting photography from our Sunday panel, hosted by The Standard. Meet legend Michael Childers and the gifted artist Robert Kelly. Meander through our Sculpture Space to witness the magical power of three dimensional art works and our mind-boggling performance installations (one of which we actually devoured opening night- giving a whole new organic meaning to the phrase, “taking in the art”).There are more details on all our special events and attractions on the following pages. Kudos to our 4 distinguished and deserving show honorees, Helene Galen, Mel Ramos, Michael Childers and Robert Kelly. I invite you to explore and discover the many breathtaking treasures offered by our exhibitors - for each and every budget level. It is easy to fall in love with a piece you cannot live without. So, don’t live without it. Indulge yourself. There is no better time to invest in art. Enjoy the fair. Sincerely,

Rick Friedman

Since then, he has participated in over 120 group exhibitions. He is known for his paintings of superheroes and voluptuous female nudes who are popping out of candy wrappers, lounging on fresh fruit or a host of other consumer products. His work is in the public collections of the leading museums in America, including the Whitney Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, MoMA, Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, SFMoMa, and in Washington, DC, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian Institute. Awardees INVITED GUEST ARTIST

ROBERT KELLY

Saturday, February 16, 5-6 pm Theater

Robert Kelly is a highly accomplished painter whose abstract work pleases the eye and soothes the mind. Mr. Kelly layers one color, form and brushstroke over another, in a rhythm of transparency that lures the viewer into a maze. His paintings have been acquired by public and private collections in Europe and the United States. He is represented by James Kelly Contemporary of Santa Fe, and in New York by Leslie Feely Fine Art.

Installations & Sculpture

Café 2013 – A Provocative Performance Art Installation by Rachel Lee Hovnanian

The Cafe 2013 exhibition includes largescale installations, sculpture, mixed media paintings and photography that explore the blurring of reality and narcissistic digital life. In this work, Rachel Lee Hovnanian presents a small neighborhood café in Texas, where homemade food, as well as synthetically modified cuisine, graces the menu. Look out the window to the barn, or a 12 minute video projected film loop. Rachel Lee Hovnanian lives and works in NYC. She has had solo exhibitions in NYC, Chicago, Madrid, Barcelona and Antwerp. She is represented by Imago Galleries. Infinity - Artist-Shana Mabari Presented by

An LA native, Shana Mabari specializes in collaborations between science, art and technology. Her installations open a true cross-section between art and science to reveal how physical stimuli are absorbed through sensation, visual perception and color contrast. Through light photons, reflections, memory, and afterimages, we experience our surroundings and our reactions to them. The Los Angeles Art Association is a non-profit organization who mission is to provide opportunities, resources, services and exhibition venues for emerging LA artists of all media. MEL RAMOS:

POP ICON

THE FIRST FIFTY YEARS… A PUBLIC RETROSPECTIVE

As the fair’s 2013 Lifetime Achievement Awardee, we are pleased to present the retrospective entitled, Mel Ramos: Pop Icon-The First Fifty Years. This survey pays tribute and defines the artist’s contributions over the past half century. It is produced in co-operation with Imago Galleries. Our retrospective comes on the heels of his recent popular exhibition at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento entitled, Mel Ramos: 50 years of Superheroes, Nudes, and other Pop Delights. Our retrospective includes his early Abstract Expressionists works, his comic book heroes from the sixties and the commercially successful nudes that have become his trademark. These sexy, alluring nudes, which he started painting in the midsixties and still paints today, are shown wrapped around Coca-Cola bottles, popping out of candy wrappers, and lounging on fresh fruit and other consumer products.

Taking her lead, we celebrate women artists’ delicate and indelicate subversions of content and form, message and medium. The George gallery represents women artists who create within a wide range: Some boldly portray aggressive sexuality and parodies of domesticity while others deliver art that is, like Ms. Sand’s, uncannily and ironically gender neutral.
