Visit. Experience. Collect. This May 19-22 weekend, we pay homage to the Bay Area’s respected tradition as a worldrenowned fine art marketplace by staging the second annual SF Fine Art Fair. We are thrilled that the SFFAF has served as a vital catalyst in inspiring the current Bay Area art fair renaissance by transforming a city that went without an art fair for years into an art fair Mecca which this year features not only our show but also two satellite fairs. To achieve our goal of creating a world-class art viewing and acquiring experience in the world-class setting of Fort Mason, our Selection Committee has endeavored to present only galleries with compelling art programs, that represent respected artists, and exhibit the utmost in professional integrity. I invite you to explore the significant offerings from our 70 local, national and international galleries offering visitors a broad spectrum of media in post-war and contemporary art. Ranging from paintings, works on paper, and drawings to printed editions, photography, and indoor and outdoor sculpture, we showcase significant artworks for every level of collector.

To help stimulate the art collecting process, we have created Maypole, a striking artistic statement at the entrance. Utilizing three miles of rope, this bay-friendly landscape architecture was created by the brilliant team at bionic and expertly executed by 5 ELEMENTS DESIGN. Our several thought-provoking public installations, video art clips and art performances are strategically placed throughout the fair and are meant to stimulate and inspire. With support from the San Francisco Art Institute we have produced the West Coast Art Collectors Conference – three days of free sessions featuring expert speakers to define and explain the latest trends in contemporary art essential to art collectors. I urge you to grab a seat and benefit from one or more fast-paced session. We are pleased to join forces with the City of San Francisco and their SF Arts Commission in raising funds for ArtCare. Privately supported, this important charity restores and maintains the city’s many valuable public artworks. This year we teamed up to proudly present our annual Lifetime Achievement Award to Richard L . Greene, Vice Chairman of SFMOMA. This charity event, emceed by TV personality Liam Mayclem, promotes the ArtCare initiative. To support this much needed effort visit www.sfartscommission.org/artcare.

I am very excited that our Opening Night celebrates the remarkable 140th anniversary of the San Francisco Art Institute. We believe our range of galleries and art work at this fair is among the most compelling and relevant offered on the West Coast. Enjoy the experience. And collect. These sculptures are a frame of film. Art elevates the human spirit in a way that nothing else does. It changes people’s lives, one experience at a time. Not really a product, it’s an emotional experience. Gallery Sam offers quality examples by important American, European, Asian and indigenous artists from the mid-20th century to the present, and our diverse inventory includes more than eight hundred paintings and sculptures. We showcase many legendary figures of the art world as well as more contemporary artists whose beautiful and emotionally expressive works bring joy and meaning into the lives of discerning collectors worldwide. Although most of the paintings we deal in are by well-known artists, we also seek out artists who are overlooked, undervalued and haven’t achieved the celebrity status of some of their contemporaries but who nevertheless have painted superior works. The gallery has placed works of art in major public, private, and corporate collections. Our extensive knowledge of the art world spans a wide range of artists and media, allowing us to offer art advisory and curatorial services to all levels of private and corporate collections.

Madeline Kisting, Director Hexton Gallery, Chicago was originally established in New York City in 1993. Hexton Gallery’s focus is 19th and 20th century master prints, as well as 20th century figurative sculpture, including the Estate of Frederick Hart. American master sculptor Frederick Hart is recognized for creating work—at once traditional in its adherence to the human figure, radical in its sensuality, and innovative in its materials —which has brought about a resurgence of interest in the human figure and the idea of beauty in contemporary American art. Hart gained international stature for his Creation Sculptures on the west façade of Washington National Cathedral. Tom Wolfe, author, called the work “The most important American religious commission of the twentieth century.” One of the most visited monuments in Washington D.C. is Hart’s heroic bronze statue, Three Soldiers (Vietnam Veterans Memorial). Curator James Mann says, “The formal counterpoint of Hart’s Three Soldiers to Maya Lin’s wall represents a decisive turning point, a stark showdown at an artistic High Noon that will eventually be understood as a landmark event in the art history of the past century.” In 2004, Hart joined De Kooning, Frankenthaler, Rauschenberg and others as a National Medal of Arts recipient, the highest award given to artists and art patrons by the US Government. Dana Gioia, former Chairman of the National Endowment of the Arts, said of Hart, “If you think about what Hart achieved in his best work, it’s not merely the artistic excellence that one admires; it is the singularity and courage of what he did. “ Artists Represented 19th and 20th century master prints, Estate of Frederick Hart, Sculptor

Michael E. Huter, Publisher/Director; Louis Canales, Creative Director/ Associate; Jeffrey J. Wilkinson, Director of Operations/Associate KIWI Arts Group represents the fine art photography of William John Kennedy. Kennedy’s collection of newly published prints of Robert Indiana and Andy Warhol debuted during Art Basel/Miami Beach 2010 to rave reviews. After nearly half a century in storage, a select number of the nearly forgotten, rare and historic images have been carefully selected and published for the first time. Believed to be the only such images in existence, the photographs were taken in the early 1960s at a time when Kennedy forged a friendship with Indiana and Warhol and captured the artists and their soon-to-be iconic works at a seminal point of their careers and the birth of the Pop Art movement. Works Represented William John Kennedy fine art photography, Robert Indiana, Ultra Violet, and the West Coast premiere of “Full Circle: Before They Were Famous.”

Jeffrey Hoone, Executive Director; Hannah Frieser, Director; Mary Goodwin, Associate Director Light Work was founded as an artist-run, non-profit organization in 1973. Its mission is to provide direct support through residencies, publications, exhibitions, a community-access digital lab facility, and other related projects to emerging and under-represented artists working in the media of photography and digital imaging. Some of photography’s most important artists have passed through our doors early in their careers, including Andres Serrano, Carrie Mae Weems, James Casebere, Cindy Sherman, and Dawoud Bey among hundreds of others. More recently we have welcomed Zoe Strauss, Brian Ulrich, Deana Lawson, and Hank Willis Thomas as Artists-in-Residence.

Walter Bischoff Gallerie Linienstrasse 121, D-10115 Berlin, Germany Tel 0049-07835-54-99-87 Fax 0049-07835-54-99-88 www.artbischoff.com artbischoff@gmx.de Walter Bischoff, Director The Walter Bischoff Galerie was founded 1983, focusing both on supporting young artists as well as showing important works of well-known artists. The main focus has always been on figurative and abstract expressionism. In 1997, the gallery founded the Museum Villa Haiss in D-Zell a.H. It hosts a groundfloor gallery in addition to two floors that house a permanent collection. In 1992, Bischoff met Valery Koshlyakov (born 1962) in his Moscow studio. At that time Koshlyakov was totally unknown and belonged to the Nonconformists. Through the gallery’s support, Koshlyakov has become one of the most important young Russian artists, taking part in the 2003 Biennial Venice and 2002 Sao Paulo, and shown at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and Bilbao, and the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. The gallery gives a yearly scholarship for young artists for a six-month studio-stay in San Jose, CA. The gallery also has an art exchange program between Germany, Russia, and the US with exhibitions in Russia and the US.
