hat do you want to be when you grow up? The question of the day directed to a group of rambunctious 2nd grade students. A young Bohang Moeko stood proudly on the seat of his chair and declared, “When I grow up I want to be an actor!” At that time, he was entirely unaware the announcement made that day would echo through the canyon and recoil an amplified resonance that would burst through the window of opportunities. Even though acting was his initial career choice, it was not something that he actively pursued. Whether the delay was due to lack of dramatics exposure or parental pressures, Bohang deferred his dream and furthered his reality. Years of schooling afforded him a degree that landed him a job he despised. “I hated every seriously single second working in that office,” he says. “I would make unnecessary trips to the bathroom multiple times just to pass through the day.” During one of his many lavatory sabbaticals, he crossed the path of an acting coach who invited him to attend a class. Feeling like there was nothing to lose, Bohang graciously accepted and from that point on the levers of his mind had shifted into another gear. “Something within me came alive,” he says. “Something that I cannot explain or describe.”

Expressing an overstimulation from this new-found exuberance, Bohang could no longer focus on his day to day job. He had an important decision to make. Will he follow his dream or will he continue in the humdrum of corporate life? The decision was made, he decided that working 9 to 5 was not a way he wanted to make a living. Take this job and shove it was the tune of the day when Bohang walked out of the office and onto the set. Audition after audition happened while Bohang crossed off the many failed attempts. 100 plus auditions later, he had yet to land a role. What the hell? Not a seriously single call back. He decided to abandon the account of losses and continued with the auditions, it was then that perseverance prevailed and he counted his first win. The rest is history in the making. While on the set of his first role, an African “Soapie” called Zabalazah, Bohang was determined to absorb the business. Having very little training, he committed to asking questions, watching other actors, and learning from his mistakes. “I wanted to soak in valuable information and apply what I learned”, he says. “I am willing to try my hand at everything to be challenged and to grow.” Bohang has since had stints in Hot Zone, playing Dr. Musoke; in Karatas, the celebrity guest; and

Kabelo, in Housekeeper. More recently he featured in the 2020 Netflix Film, Seriously Single as Lunga. Seriously Single is a South African romance comedy about an ambitious young woman who livestreams what she thought to be a romantic love gesture from her boyfriend turned public embarrassment. After weeks of sulking and stalking, she meets Lunga in the most unconventional way only to later learn that he is about to be married… and the plot thickens. Seriously Single, as Bohang’s first comedic role. He notes the difficulties in “finding the funny” as he was often drawn back to the dramatics from previous experiences. Mr. Moeko continues the pursuit of passion in his acting career. “It doesn’t feel like a job”, he says. “I have so much fun on set that I have to say to myself, are they really paying me to do this?” His favorite character thus far is one who is attached to “Issonna” a show on BET AFRICA that was set to release September 28, 2020. He states that the character he plays is complex and conflicted; consequently, this role has proven to be the most difficult at this time causing him to
