DSD Manhole Cover Design Competition
Project Objective The competition aimed to design manhole covers, let the passersby can find the beauty in forgotten spaces in Hong Kong, meanwhile deepen public awareness of the contribution of the Drainage Services Department. Themes of the design are around as celebrate and throwback 30th anniversary of Drainage Services Department; Optimizing and greening channels in Hong Kong, building a better living environment for residents and creatures; Repairing aging pipes and channels; Shatin Sewage Treatment Works moved to the cave, releasing more lands for bringing long-term benefits to the community and environment of Sha Tin like building houses.
Design Concept The concept based on the contribution of the Drainage Services Department to the public. The Drainage Services Department has been working to revitalise a number of rivers in the past 30 years and create a coexistence space of urban and ecological environment. Besides, the endless river is a metaphor that looking forward to future works of DSD can bring wellbeing to the social, ecological and public health, also passing down the development of channels revitalization in Hong Kong.
