GARSTANG COUNCIL

Lockdown Restrictions

It was disappointing news to hear that lockdown rules will remain in place until at least Mon 19th July. This will be a disappointment for many and will cause more problems for all sorts of businesses. We can all do our bit by wherever possible buying local. We have many great local businesses at the heart of our town and around our district.

Town Council Vacancies

If you have been keeping up with town council notices you will have seen that we have two vacancies on the town council. Wyre Council has informed the town council that ‘the last time for a request for an election to be held to fill the vacancies on the town council had passed and there was no request received’. This being the case, the elections rules require the town council to co-opt two people to fill the vacancies as soon as practicable. Would you like to become a Garstang Town

Greater Garstang Partnership Board

The town council working with Wyre Council have established the Greater Garstang Partnership Board and we are fortunate to have Jan Finch in the role of chairman. Many of you will know Jan for the great work she has done in Wyre and Catterall. The board is tasked with developing a strategic plan for Garstang and the surrounding district. It has a very broad remit and will look at anything and everything that can bring benefit to the future success of the area. It will be looking for involvement from all parts of our community, business and social, with strong focus on enhancing what Garstang and district has to offer. The Board replaces the Market Town Working Group Strategic team which was being led by Cllr Pearson. I expect there will be regular updates on the progress the board is making in this magazine.

Remembrance Sunday

We are currently planning for Remembrance Sunday which despite being 5 months away will quickly come round. We are also about to start planning for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee which is scheduled to take place from Thurs 2nd June 2022 to Sun 5th June 2022. It is anticipated that there will be many events happening throughout the country over an extended period.

Great British Spring Clean

Garstang Town Council took part in the Great British Spring Clean; led by councillors Pearson and Webster, by organising a litter pick on Sat 12th June in Garstang. It was a beautiful day and enjoyed by all. Fourteen litter pickers including a number of children joined. All equipment was supplied by Wyre Council and everyone enjoyed helping keep our town looking tip top with many residents
