PROBLEM PESTICIDES (cont)

Do not pour it onto bare soil where it can build up in groundwater • Do not use surface water drains to dispose of unwanted pesticide. They often lead straight to the river • Empty weed killer containers should be rinsed three times, adding the washings to the spray solution • Always keep chemicals in their original containers

Tom Myerscough BEN WALLACE MP

In my last article for Focus, I spoke about restrictions being eased. Unfortunately, since that time, it has been necessary to slow the easing down slightly. Quite rightly, there is still a great deal of hope and optimism that we are past the worst and there are brighter days ahead. Vaccinations have definitely gone up a gear with many younger adults now vaccinated. Once again, I would like to thank all involved with the vaccination programme from local volunteers to the NHS and the Armed Forces. To keep up to date with the latest restrictions please go to the government’s website: www.

gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-coronavirusrestrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do

The government has also prepared a useful guide for businesses - www.gov.uk/ coronavirus/business-support - which includes information about working safely, the restrictions in place and financial and other support which is available. Wyre Council’s website (www.wyre.gov. uk) also provides a wealth of information including details of the support available to businesses. Testing is extremely important. Some local pharmacists have reported they are out of stock of the rapid lateral flow tests. Please note home testing kits which contain seven tests can be ordered on line by visiting www.

The NHS website also includes details of where you can collect home test kits.. See the following link for more details: https://www.

PC Kev Berry

On a non-Covid subject, I would like to wish PC Kev Berry a very happy retirement from policing. Kev has been the Poulton and Over Wyre neighbourhood police officer for a number of years and I have always found him approachable and helpful. Kev joined the police back in 1992 and I am sure has witnessed many changes. I was lucky enough to ride with Kev around his area during a patrol and witnessed first hand his enthusiasm and professionalism. As well as undertaking all the usual work we expect of police officers, I often came into contact with him when he was helping in matters which many of us wouldn’t usually consider to be police work, such as helping people with mental health problems, homeless people and checking on the welfare of older people. Kev will be missed. I am sure I am speaking for the local community when I say ‘thank you for your service Kev and good luck in the future’.

Local Issues

As lockdown eases and the rate of work on the new road between Windy Harbour and Skippool increases, many motorists are experiencing delays in their journeys. Please be assured I am monitoring the work and my office is in constant touch with Highways England to ensure every measure is taken to aid the flow and safety of traffic.

Keep in Touch

As always, my mailbag has been full of letters covering many issues. I say it often, but please do keep the letters and emails coming. Although I pride myself on travelling around the constituency listening to residents, I can’t speak to everyone and
