Progress meetings continue. A FLAG meeting with WBC took forward our concerns to the agencies at the Making Space for Water meeting and the full Flood Forum meeting. A Hambleton Walk About Meeting was held in June with WBC and LCC reps.

Birkrigg & The Coppins on the A588:

Following repeated house flooding the issue remains unresolved. The related water course has been checked as working. The Environment Agency has carried out work, the details of which are to be confirmed. The desilting of the Kiln Lane Water Course we believe remains an issue. Investigations of the A588 surface water drainage is underway from Ryecroft to Carlyn Property, and may provide further options for mitigation. Kiln Lane & Sherbourne: Flooding on Kiln Lane and Sherbourne is linked to the two pipe systems that flow from Sherbourne Road to

The FLAG is liaising with UU regarding the link between high tides and heavy rainfall causing flooding. UU will be undertaking installation of flow meters in November 2021. These were promised in 2019 but covid and budget restraints intervened. Hambleton Sea Defences: The inability of water to drain when the Wardleys flap is closed contributes to flooding. The EA has been asked to review the sea defence design so as to reduce tide locking and maximise the outflow. However there is also a surface water drain outfalling direct into Wardleys Pool which requires review. Culverted Water Course: The flooding in junctions Carr Lane, Market Street, Stoney Lane, Paul’s Lane and Sandy Lane is related to the problems that exist with this system.
