GARSTANG WINE CIRCLE
The Wine Circle held its final Zoom meeting of the season in June. A quiz was accompanied by members’ choices of wine. There was an opportunity for members to talk about the wines they were drinking and the reasons for their choice. The quiz was set by Alan and Glynnis Jefferson and was a series of wine-related questions based on the year’s presentations. Congratulations to the winners of the quiz, Jim McVey and Anne Whitehead. Thanks to Alan and Glynnis for setting the quiz We have arranged a summer picnic that will be held on Sun 15th Aug on the school field at St Mary and Michael Primary School at 3:00pm. This will give the first opportunity for members to meet up since the start of lockdown. It will be good to be able to meet

in person instead of on-screen, and we hope for a decent day weather-wise. Details will be circulated by Alan closer to the event. There is a tentative programme drawn up to start in September, when we hope to be back at Garstang Arts Centre which had its re-opening on the 29th July. We hope to have provision to stream meetings so we can include those members who do not feel comfortable in attending in person.

The best boilers fitted at an unbeatable price for a breakfast and an opportunity to meet with friends old and new. The Covid restrictions meant that it was a different style to previous breakfast clubs in that you had to sign in, wear a mask when moving about, sit at the table you were designated and everything was waiter service. These new rules did not spoil what was a very enjoyable event and it was pleasing to see some new faces, all of whom said they were looking forward to the next one in August. The staff and management at the Th’Owd Tithe Barn provided excellent service, along with free tea and coffee.
Next Breakfast Club Meeting
Our Breakfast Clubs are on the first Saturday of each month. Next will be Sat 7th Aug, 9:30am at Th’Owd Tithe Barn, Church Street, Garstang, PR3 1PA. We will enjoy an English breakfast, sausage or bacon butty with free tea and coffee. But most of all, there will be the opportunity to catch up with your fellow veterans and their families, and once again, enjoy some good-natured banter. We realise this coincides with the unmissable Garstang Show, but our members prefer to maintain a level of continuity regarding dates and times. We normally finish around 11:30am, so people should be able to combine both events if they so wish.
GAFVBC Walk
We are holding another of our popular, socially distanced and leisurely walks that varying in length from two to six miles. We usually finish for free tea, coffee, and toast, kindly donated to us by the King’s Arms on the High Street. These walks are viewed as an opportunity for members to socialise, check on the health and wellbeing of each other and provide help and assistance if needed. A poll of our members at the last breakfast club indicated that people wanted to continue with the
