KNOTT END LIBRARY

We are all now looking forward to some familiar routines with the easing of restrictions. However please visit our website or call us for information on what to expect on your next visit. If you enjoyed the books we chose for you in lockdown, our Six of the Best collections are still available to order by completing the request form online, asking staff in the library or by phoning the library. Free PC access is available as well as our printing and photocopying services, and also a study area with free access to WiFi.

Your Library from Home

Take a look at our Library from Home where you can discover wonderful resources for you and your family. There’s something for everyone. We’d like to introduce our new podcast called The Reading Ramble - a regular podcast brought to you by Lancashire Libraries. Episodes are released every fortnight through all major podcast providers, bringing you digestible audio delights, covering a range of subjects from heroes and villains in literature, through our favourite female writers, to the worst books we’ve ever read

SCART Reading Challenge for Children

Our SCART Reading Challenge is now in full swing and will run until the end of September. We are shouting from the rooftops this is free to join and we encourage every primary school aged child to register and complete five fun and interesting tasks to receive a lanyard and three pop badges. The different zones include science, culture, active, reading and technology with activity ideas to keep everyone entertained and most importantly engaged in reading over the summer. Pop into the library to join. It’s as simple as that! If you are unable to get into one of our libraries, this year we are offering a digital version of SCART Club, where you can take part in activities online, share your reading recommendations, and then collect your prizes from the library at a later date. To join SCART Digital, you will need to sign up for an account on Niche Academy by following this link www.lancashire.gov.uk/

We are hoping to hold some activity sessions to coincide with SCART this month, however they will be pre-booked sessions and will be run within household bubbles. Please just ask when you next make a visit.

Home Library Service

For those in the community who are unable to visit the library because of poor health, we offer the Home Library Service, where we pack a choice of books which our volunteers will deliver to the door. Again, this is a Covid secure service where strict measures are in place and which is proving more vital than

ever before. We have had a big uptake, but there is still space for more. If you would like to be part of this service, do please contact the library.

Groups & Events

Groups and events in the library are hoping to be re-introduced soon but we will be taking a cautious approach. Details will follow on how we are going to do this. Watch this space.

FOKEL - Help Required

Are you looking for a new challenge? Have you found yourself with some spare time on your hands? Would you like to help out in your local community? We may have found your solution! We are actively seeking members to join our friendly Friends Group (FOKEL) here in Knott End and would like to warmly welcome you to an informal meeting at the library on Fri 10th Sept, 11:00am. You will be able to learn more about how the group runs and we will be able to answer any questions you may have. FOKEL is open to any individuals who want to get involved and support their library by • Supporting and promoting the library and the services it offers • Raising money by fundraising and applying for grant funding • Enhancing the programme of library events and activities • Fostering and promoting the inclusion of community groups in their use of library service facilities • Developing exciting and meaningful services for our communities Remember, a small group can still be very effective in making a positive difference and over the few years our group has been established we have raised well over £2000 – helping to set up the Dementia café and the
