We are also planning to support the road closure and traffic management necessary to facilitate the local Remembrance Day Service arrangements on Sun 14th Nov. As we have done before, we will be parking the cars of entrants and officials at Myerscough College on Sun 5th Dec to allow their annual ten mile run to take place.

Very reluctantly we have taken the decision to cancel the annual Christmas community lunch provided for vulnerable adults and their carers because of the continued threat of Covid. However we are still looking to put something else in place and more information will be given later.

Interestingly, nowhere is the word ‘fundraising’ mentioned. In fact nothing could be further from the truth. Every Inner Wheel Club around the globe (we are an international organisation) chooses to fund raise for many good causes and are proud to do so. Whether the cause is a small local charity needing a little support or a global initiative requiring a massive effort, Inner Wheel will always be proactive.

Recently, 12 members of our own club here in Garstang attended the District International Rally where we learned more of the work of AQUABOX, a Rotary charity founded by the Rotary Club of Wirksworth in Derbyshire.

The district international chairman presented the proceeds from various stalls to a representative from the charity. At the same rally over 100 Rotary shoeboxes were handed to the organisers of this wonderful charity. Rotary members had filled these robust boxes with gifts and donations for distribution to Eastern Europe, hopefully in time for Christmas but not exclusively so. A shoebox is not just for Christmas. A gift is always welcome by those who have so little, whatever the time of year.

The club is now looking forward to more fundraising (and fun) for Vision Aid International at the end of November.
