P
assword: paradise. Each of us has a particular vision of it, for me it’s that place where you feel you could find peace, where you feel a total communion with nature. This 2018 has been a year of big changes, not only because I got married (and talking about weddings, I invite you to go to page 38 to read our interview with a special couple, a Norwegian model and an American biologist, of their vision of paradise), but also because I made an important trip to Mexico between Quintana Roo, Campeche and Yucatan where I rediscovered the beauty of the ancient and modern world (find out more on page 164). The year behind us has been unpredictable and incredibly turbulent, and pre-fall as the last season of the annual fashion calendar was no different. Many gorgeous collections were presented across the globe but the behind the scenes drama is what kept any real fashion aficionado on the edge of his seat. After nearly two years, the tenure of Raf Simons as a chief creative officer at Calvin Klein has come to an end, much to the dismay of his passionate fans. The news didn’t come as a shock however, as reports began to emerge that executives of PVH corp.(Calvin Klein’s parent company) were doubting the appeal of the brand’s offering. On paper the pairing may have seemed ideal, as Raf Simons is considered a minimalist at heart, but his high concept approach to design and marketing might have been a mismatch with the brand’s audience who wasn’t simply ready to be approached in such way. Designer’s final offering for the brand was noticeably tamer as concept, and the conscious effort to simplify can be felt, especially compared to some of the looks from his previous work. The main focus of the collection were the reinvented classics of american fashion, modernized for the new age, which is something we learned to expect from the brand through the years.

Pierpaolo Piccioli, fresh off of his Designer of the Year win at Fashion Awards in London, has staged a true spectacle in Tokyo for Valentino which fully showcased how and why he has earned the win. Main influences on the collection were Japanese aesthetic concepts of Ma and Wabi-Sabi, finding beauty in the imperfections. Watching the clothes come down the runway felt like a fully realized wardrobe of a Valentino woman come to life. The balance between couture and casual, structure and flow, restraint and volume was achieved with such incredible nuance that the more extravagant looks didn’t feel out of place next to denim separates, which in turn didn’t get overshadowed. Every single piece was given enough space to shine, everything was in perfect harmony and equilibrium, which makes Pierpaolo’s way of interpreting his references particularly refreshing, as it went beyond the surface and straight to the core, paying homage to the culture where the concept originated from.
What can be learnt, from looking at these two very diverse situations is that when it comes to designer and brand business collaboration the fit is the most important thing. Designers need to be placed in business structures which best allow them to showcase their talents, and support their growth through their career, and which of course in some way can relate to their own personal aesthetics. The quality that makes clothes designed by Raf Simons so special can’t be watered down to the wide masses, no matter how many Kardashians you hire. We personally hope that Raf will commit more to his mainline, launch his own womenswear even, and build an even bigger legacy on his own accord. He has been, is and will be a trailblazer and a cult favorite and he should be celebrated for it. Pierpaolo, on other hand, has gone from strength to strength ever since his co-designer Maria Grazia Chiuri left for Dior, presenting his own unique brand of elegance, both romantic and modern, while paying homage to the core values of Valentino. His ability to transfer house codes into the future while approaching inspiration in such an invigorating way demonstrates why he is the true successor of the empire.
Looking back at the 2018, and the events we are leaving behind, fashion industry has had a rather tumultuous year, marked by new appointments, out of the blue announcements and grand scale exposes, the latter being an issue which we believe will continue to dominate the headlines aplenty in the following year. We need to be well aware of the fact that fashion, as industry, employs mostly women and minors and we owe it to ourselves, and to them, to fight for their legal protection, against sexual abuse and any type of socially unjust behavior they might face. As more and more people are being held accountable for actions, which have been kept under the rug for too long, another hope is that we will continue to demystify and expose who these perpetrators are and that we will be ready for whatever has been hidden. One prediction that is almost 100% certain is that 2019 won’t go down as calm and peaceful.

GENTLEWOMAN
There was an apparent nod towards boxier and more masculine tailoring this season, with cuts, fabrics and shapes, traditionally used in menswear design, dominating the pre fall 2019 presentations. Even though this concept isn’t novel by any means, the widespread support that the trend got most definitely was worldwide.
Erdem (up) Fendi (down)
KEEP IT SHORT You should never doubt the fashion industry’s ability to surprise and assert new trends. Mini skirts for Pre fall, if someone would have asked me about the possibility of this summertime staple making its appearance, I would have said that the chances were pretty slim, but the mini has most definitely managed to find its way to shine in many different guises.
Gucci (left) Emilio Pucci (right)
FOLK MAGIC Folkloric undercurrent in design has finally reemerged , with many experts forecasting a bright future for the trend, and I agree with them wholeheartedly. A return to a more artisanal approach to design, fabrication and embroidery will both reexamine the role of craft in fashion and serve as a unifier through employment of various folkloric motifs.
Chloe (left) Ulla Johnson (right)
THE O’KEEFE EFFECT Pre-fall’s muse de jour was none other than Georgia o’Keefe, whose organic, earthy yet austere way of dressing continues to inspire in 2019. The artist, whose idiosyncratic style was a topic of several exhibitions in the past, reinvigorated the fashion stratosphere proving that nothing can beat individuality and an honest to self approach to fashion.

NEW FRONTIER
Reinterpretation and reimagination of yesteryear’s fashions is a common practice in the fashion industry and with wild western imagery dominating the pop culture in recent years, it comes as no surprise to see the resurgence of this quintessential Americana trend in fashion as well, and what a resurgence it was.
Roberto Cavalli (left) Philip Lim (right)
LAYERING 2.0 This unjustly vilified trend has gotten a bad rap over the years, but the featured looks can vouch for the surprising versatility of this 2 for 1 combo. The inherent boldness of this styling trick can surprisingly be applied and adapted to plethora of needs, from workwear to even black tie eveningwear.

“Small changes have a big impact.” There was a time when we never thought we would not drink from plastic straws or use plastic bags freely. They were products we would take for granted and not realise the impact they have on the environment, due to it not being something we could physically see. In the recent years, luckily , the change of how we view our planet has increased for the better as more companies are acknowledging how their products can cause damage to our surroundings. It is easy to go to your favourite high street store and purchase something without second guessing, as it is
quick and easy. However, after recent reports there has been an influx of information detailing us on how the everyday materials we come across are harming the earth. There are some simple changes you can make from your home, that doesn’t seem a lot but can give benefit to the planet in the long run. Where you live is the best way to start, as it is where you feel the most comfortable. So, to start you moving away from plastic and other harmful materials, there are some key pieces you should purchase to decorate without damaging the earth.

Two apparently very distant worlds collided when Silja Danielsen, a Norwegian model, and Phil Torres, an American Biologist, met. It almost seems like the beginning of a very romantic fairytale but it is, in fact, real life. This beautiful couple, whose home is in New York, shares various interests and passions such as travelling and sustainability, so much so that they decided to tie the knot in Seattle last September with a conscious ceremony and reception. We had the pleasure to interview them and discover more details about their fascinating love story and sustainable lifestyle. words by Laura Zanovello - to page 51

You are coming from two seemingly opposite poles, science and modeling, how did you two meet and know you were meant for each other? Both of our careers took us to far off places around the world where we were on our own experiencing new cultures and countries. We quickly bonded over our stories of traveling and wanting to know about the world and became really good friends– and the more time we spent together we realized we had something special! You decided to have a sustainable wedding in September, can you tell us about that and in what aspects it was sustainable? Phil works in conservation and has taught me more and more about how important our daily decisions are to the future of the world our future kids will live in. The engagement ring he got me from Brilliant Earth was sustainable from the diamond to the gold, since where Phil works in the Amazon their biggest threat is illegal gold mining. We wanted our wedding to reflect how we live and to teach people about sustainability tricks at the same time. We bought our flowers locally from the farmer’s market or harvested
and dried them ourselves (which we repurposed into home decor!). Other plants were living and we then planted them in my mom’s yard. We’ve seen so many beautiful plants go straight into the garbage after an event we wanted to make sure ours lived on. Beyond that, we used Trail’s End Bourbon for our cocktail which donates proceeds to restoring forests, gave out native milkweed seeds to every guest to plant in their yard for the endangered monarch butterflies to lay eggs on in the spring, and even turned out table top pear decor into jam! Is sustainability something you practice on a daily basis? Could you give us any tips? We start with our food- eating less meat and finding healthy and tasty alternatives like Beyond Meat; and when we do eat meat we make sure it is sourced locally using no antibiotics or hormones. We ditched plastic wrap for reusable bees wax wrap (like Bee’s Wrap) and really focus on eliminating single use plastic from our day- from straws to cups to utensils. Finding certified sustainable products is also important and we always look for Rainforest Alliance certification in our coffee, chocolate, and palm oil or FSC certified furniture like our recent Gus sofa purchase.

Silja, fashion is know for being a very polluting industry, how do you manage to find a balance between your career and your values towards the planet? There are so many incredible brands changing the game and making sure their clothes do good for the environment and the people in them. Naadam is a brand that I have loved working with for the incredible work they do in Mongolia, and Phil has been drawn to Everlane for their sustainability and transparency. We also choose to buy clothing that are high quality and timeless, because one of the other challenges my industry faces is fast fashion where clothing only gets worn for a month and then tossed in the trash for the next trend, clothing waste is a huge issue we work to avoid! Phil, you are a biologist and an eager explorer of some the wildest corners of this planet. Your missions are well documented both through your camera and in documentaries, what message are you hoping to spread through your job? I want people to know just how incredible this world truly is and how much more we have to discover– the moment we stop feeling wonder and fascination about the natural world around us is the moment we decide its inherent value isn’t worth the changes it will take to save it. I also know that many have fear of the types of animals I work with from spiders to snakes to bugs; I absolutely love turning that fear into curiosity into fascination and appreciation of what you can find from the Amazon Rainforest to right in your back yard. Can you tell us about your wedding outfits and in particular about your beautiful wedding gown and the story behind it? As someone who has modeled dozens and dozens of wedding dresses my standards were pretty high! I wanted couture but also realized it doesn’t have to be expensive to be special and high quality. After shopping around both in Seattle and New York
I found a shop called The Bridal Garden in NY that gets high-end dresses donated to them from designers and their proceeds go to local education efforts. The people working there were so kind and approachable and when I spotted a dress with butterflies on it (which Phil loves!) I knew it was the one. It is a Monique Lhuillier couture dress with silk crepe, boning and draping. I felt like an ethereal Viking Queen all night :) For Phil, he wanted to feel his absolute best and knew that a high quality tuxedo was something he’d own for life and get a lot of use out of so he went with a Tom Ford tux and I got him the Gucci shoes with the bee on them as a wedding gift. His extra touch he was so proud of was the boutonnières– instead of flowers he made these pins with real butterflies on them for him and the groomsmen that were my favorite yellow color. These butterflies are sustainably grown in Latin America where he works and supports a local industry which keeps the rainforest strong. You both share a passion for traveling and your jobs often take you around the world, do you get combine these things and travel together a lot? What is your favourite place you have been to, so far? We’re so lucky to be able to work together some times or join each other on one another’s shoot somewhere exotic. Our favorite trips had to have been Sicily, Italy for our Honeymoon and Mexico City for the food, culture, and monarch butterfly forest. What are your plans for the future? So many! We chose words to rain over 2019 and I chose Create and Phil chose Lead. So with that we are looking to create more jobs together and work on producing and creative directing for the brands and clients we really believe in. Our 5 year goals include working together oncamera more, opening a Norwegian cafe, and opening a ecolodge in the rainforest; now that we’re married we are excited to do more big dreams together.

2018 was a big year for marriage lovers. With a cascade of supermodels, singers and actors getting married (in addition to the two major Royal weddings), the wedding industry has taken its rightful throne alongside the world of haute couture. We collected some of the most stylish and buzz-worthy weddings of the year that made us hoping for more “I do’s” in 2019. Who’s next to walk down the central aisle?
‘18 SUPER WEDDINGS by Nina Hanz
Karlie Kloss & Joshua Kushner After six years together, Karlie & Joshua finally tied the knot in October. It was a small surprise wedding in upstate New York where the model-turned-computer-coder married her partner. Very thrilled about the whole affair was Ivanka Trump, her new sister-in-law. However, the couple has yet to respond to her adorations as opposing political views seem to distance the two new ‘sisters’. (Top, Courtesy of Karlie Kloss) Caitlin Mociun & Tammer Hijazi While many of the brides in 2018 opted for the traditional white gowns, jewellery designer Caitlin Mociun made a splash at her Italian summer wedding by wearing bold stripes. Contrasted with the furniture designer Tammer Hijazi’s green suit, this wedding goes straight to the top of our best dressed list! Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth They had us guessing for a few days, but newlyweds Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth finally confirmed with marriage after meeting each other ten years ago on the set of The Last Song. From the Instagram picture it is clear to see that this gorgeous couple finally got their happy ever after.
Gwyneth Paltrow & Brad Falchuk Hollywood’s favourite beauty guru Gwyneth Paltrow married TV producer Brad Falchuk in late September to round off the perfect summer in the Hamptons. The former actress was a blushing bride in her lace Valentino bodice dress and cathedral-length veil. (Left, photo by John Dolan) Emily Ratajkowski & Sebastian Bear-McClard Another bride who loves colour, Emily Ratajkowski took her partner Sebastian Bear-McClard to New York City Hall to make their union legal in a mustard Zara suit. Effortless and affordable –the perfect model for the anti-bridezilla. Chryseis Tan & Faliq Nasimuddin In November, Chryseis Tan stopped time in her fall-inspired Oscar de la Renta wedding dress. In Kyoto, the Malaysian billionaire heiress married her fiancé Faliq Nasimuddin for picture perfect wedding.
Kit Harrington & Rose Leslie Game of Thrones actors Kit and Rose weren’t shy in inviting the cast to their special day. Amongst the guests were Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Emilia Clarke and Peter Dinklage. They gathered in Aberdeen, Scotland were the scenic views were perfectly matched by Rose Leslie’s long-sleeve lace dress covered nature-inspired details. (Right, courtesy of Splash News) 2 Chainz & Kesha Ward Tauheed Epps (better known by his stage name 2 Chainz) and Kesha Ward took over the Versace Mansion for their extravagant wedding. Who would expect less after their MET Gala engagement?

Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Hands down, this was the wedding of the year. Marrying at Windsor Castle, the American actress and British Prince became Duke and Duchess of Sussex in May. Meghan’s much long-awaited Givenchy ceremony dress and the Stella McCartney reception dress will surely influencing wedding trends for years to come. (Right, photo by Steve Parson) Aidy Bryant & Conner O’Malley In the company of many of her SNL co-stars, comedian Aidy Bryant married comedy writer Conner O’Malley in a beautiful tea length wedding down. Also on the guest list: purple platform heels.
Morgan Curtis & Thomas Mahl Morgan Curtis, the designer behind the pajamas and lingerie line Morgan Lane, married real-estate broker Thomas Mahl in one of the most Pinterest-worthy weddings of 2018. What really stole our hearts from this breezy Spanish wedding was Curtis’ Alexander McQueen lingerie-inspired gown. (Left, photo by Sergio Sandona) Hugh Grant & Anna Eberstein How could we miss this one? British heartthrob and actor Hugh Grant married the mother of his three children Anna Eberstein. The two managed to keep their wedding quiet and casual at the Chelsea Register Office in London. Who says your wedding requires a gown?
Lord Ivar Mountbatten & James Coyle Here come the grooms! And with them: the first gay Royal Wedding. Queen Elisabeth II’s third cousin once removed married his partner James Coyle in September. Despite the small ceremony, this was a huge moment in British history. (Top, courtesy of Lord Ivar) Princess Eugenie & Jack Brooksbank In the second major Royal wedding of the year, Princess Eugenie of York married Jack Brooksbank in a Peter Pilotto dress. The gown showed off the scar on her back from scoliosis surgery and quickly became a symbol of strength. It was truly a fashion statement worth celebrating. (Left, photo by Toby Melville) Justine Bieber & Hailey Baldwin Honorable mention goes to Justine and Hailey despite no photos emerging from their November wedding. What have emerged, however, are inescapable pictures of their PDAand countless Instagram - love - letter - posts. Congrats to the happy couple! Kaley Cuoco & Karl Cook Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco left a big impression at her wedding with equestrian Karl Cook. With miniature ponies at their San Diego affair, Kaley stole the show with her lacy jumpsuit and a plunging V-next top. This is a fairy-tale wedding if we ever saw one!

BLACK VELVET CIRCUS
B
lack Velvet Circus is mysterious, non-conformist and dares to find new paths…
I
n 2009, the Hamburg based designer Tanja Glissman founded Black Velvet Circus. As the name suggests, the online store and label has become mystic and electrifying, yet cool and casual – not at all far from what we might expect an off duty trapeze artist might wear on a spontaneous trip to the market. Through a love for vintage clothing and a clear affinity for denim, Tanja Glissman created a label dedicated to sustainability, female empowerment, fairness, craftsmanship and reflection. The individual designs are simple and graceful, but together the collections work as a graphic kaleidoscope of embroidery and linen. Latest Magazine spoke with the original and unconventional designer to learn how she made her own rules and followed her intuition. Can you tell us a bit about the philosophy behind Black Velvet Circus and how it is translated into your garments? I want to show with the label that fashion, work, and consumption can present themselves in different ways. Over the last five years, I have tried to unlearn much of what fashion school and the work world have taught me. I no longer work under time pressure, not in seasons, I don’t make any complete collections anymore, but instead make the existing selection complement each other every season. In short, I am getting slower. At Black Velvet Circus, I work at my own pace and at the eye level of my producers, suppliers and customers. I call it: “Less action – more inspired action.” I produce and design only what I feel 100% sure about in order to use our resources responsibly and to avoid overproduction. My intention is not to grow at any cost, but to make a brand that has my personal well-being and the well-being of others at its core. Why is vintage clothing important to your brand’s ethos? I have loved vintage fashion since my time in London. It is a wonderful way to dress affordably, it doesn’t use up any further resources, and it is an appreciation of the garment and the work that went into it. What tips do you have for conscious consumers?
Be in touch with yourself. Ask yourself why you are buying this article of clothing. Is my impulse based on love or fear? Good examples are trends you buy into because you are afraid of not being at the forefront of fashion. Buy quality over quantity! Also come to terms with and play with your own uniqueness, dare to show who you are. We women no longer need to hide in the crowd. The more you know who you are, the less changes you will have in your wardrobe. Oh, and of course buy vintage! What role does female empowerment play in the brand? Can remember who we actually are; who we were before the patriarchy made us small. We do that by being aware of our feelings and our intuition. I, for example, noticed that I buy much less when I take a closer look at my behavior. I no longer cover up my feelings by consuming clothing, food or alcohol. Now I know when I consume something out of love for myself or whether I do it because I’ve just been upset about something, feel worthless, or I am scared. I want my clothing to encourage women to get in touch with themselves, to feel themselves, to love themselves, and to expose their dark sides, to get their own power so that we can change the world in a sustainable way. How exactly has your design education come influenced you? As I already mentioned, I have unschooled myself on many of the conditionings that the fashion industry’s culture and the training has beaten into me, but at the same time I see my time in London at the London College of Fashion as one of my nicest memories. We were such a great class, which supporting each other and had mega resources like museums, talks, studios, exchanges with famous designers, etc. all right in front of our door! The flow of creativity was magical! Where does the name Black Velvet Circus come from? Black Velvet Circus is mysterious, non-conformist and dares to find new paths…

Minimal class As for bags, they will keep following the same guidelines as in 2018: tiny, structured and minimal. The tight relationship between design and fashion will get through with a collaboration between the German bag label Tsatsas and architect-turned-designer Dieter Rams. This black purse was designed in the early 60s as a surprise gift for his wife by Rams but never got released. The «0931» is the ideal balance between classic and progressive, modern and vintage, everything we will need for 2019.
Sneakers Mania Unsurprisingly 2019 will be another good year for sneakers, the main styles remaining chunky and vintage inspired. For a few seasons already, the trendy sneaker has become the new stilleto. Officine Creative added a nice twist to this mega-trend with a chunky black and white color-block shoe. This pair will make you master the casual fashionable look and balance all your colorful outfits perfectly.
Statement Earrings
Futuristic eyesight
Don’t think for a second that statement earrings are going anywhere, 2019 will be another year for your ears to shine. Our suggestion is this bright green plastic pair by Chen2g that will for sure make heads turn. Whether you want to tone it down with a plain black outfit or matching neon garments, this pair of earrings will be a gamechanger in your outfit picks.
For this coming year, the neon trend extended to eyewear and sunglasses have turned futuristic. Spektre offers us a great alternative to our boring black sunglasses with outstanding eyewear made to be seen on every fashion week street style picture. The neon yellow of this sunglasses pair will make your simple outfits pop and make you look like you came straight from 2039.
Stylishly sustainable If 2019 is not the year of eco-responsible decisions we don’t know what year will be. And the good news are that fashion is slowly getting there. This year, Vivienne Westwood has teamed up with 24bottles to design a stylish reusable water bottle to carry with you everywhere. More than a simple sustainable act, this bottle is a political statement in itself with a design representing NASA’s projection of the effects of a 5°C raise of global temperatures. We found the perfect way to ally fashionability and eco-consciousness.

Mediterranéenne Take effortless to the next level with this French girl inspired makeup. Ideal for the incoming spring, this look will make you want to enjoy a nice glass of Porto on the sea side. Quite natural on the eyes, the attention is on the reddish cheeks and lips reminding us of warm summer nights and too much dancing. This trend is inspired by catwalks like Jacquemus or Hellessy for Spring 2019. Our tip? Switch your pink blush for a more orange/red one and make sure the lipstick is a warm red. Our product of choice: Ainsel, Stilettolipstick, 26€.

Baby bangs
Some of you might be the «new year, new haircut» type, if this is your case we have what you are looking for. 2019 will be the year of baby bangs, as seen on the runways of Prada and MiuMiu on models like Kaia Gerber. This trend also made an appearance on red carpets on the famous heads of Emma Watson and Emma Roberts. The key to nail this look lays in the texturing spray, in order to make sure your bangs don’t lay flatly on your forehead. Our product of choice: Ouai, Volumizing Hairspray, 28€.

Make your nights out a bit more special with a beauty look inspired by the ones seen at Adeam for the Spring 2019 collection. Not so subtle nails
Time to get your classic nude nails out of the way, because 2019 calls for show-stopping hands. Rhinestones, cartoon designs or just combination of bright colors, nails have had their fair share of attention in the recent fashion shows. Indeed, for Spring 2019, models on the catwalks of Jeremy Scott, Adeam and The Blonds had outstanding manicures to complete their makeup looks. Use those looks as inspiration and be more reckless with your nail choices now. Our product of choice: Formula X, Les Xplosives, Demolition, 1€.

BLOGGERS embracing sustainability by Jordan Ellen Wood
Within the fashion world of today it is hard to have an impact in a popularized creative field like that of fashion blogger, not to mention one driven by sustainability. The way we see fast fashion, and how the world is changing day by day, is improving our thoughts on what so many luxury goods are doing to our planet.
It seems that we’re starting to open our eyes to the thought of sustainability; the recognition of the issue is gradually rising, and there are now activist women in the cause against mass fast fashion, trying
to steer our thoughts into looking at why we should embrace sustainability in our daily routines. It is easy to flip a page in a magazine when the headline reads “WHY YOU SHOULD SHOP ECO-FRIENDLY”, as well as blogging platforms have blown up into what people want and their dream jobs, what better way to express the cause in a way that will get noticed and recognized for sure.
Looking through some of the best sustainable bloggers that support in changing the environment, it’s what to look out for in the future of fashion.
Bead & Reel A fashion community that puts the word mind in mindful; Bead & Reel is a sustainable blog created by the ethical beauty Sica Schmitz. A different take on the usual everyday blog, this one is about connecting companies and shoppers, in which brings the supporters of a more improved eco friendly planet. Schmitz founded Bead & Reel through a research of ethical fashion and the market it is in. It wasn’t about pushing the word sustainable onto others, it was about putting a different meaning to the word. Not to let sustainable be such an eye roller and more about it being a word we can all love. We noticed a lot of passion and hard work that has been put into the content of Bead & Reel. Making sure all articles were positive based and gave out a good mindset to turning people more eco friendly consumers, so her vegan and humanitarian values came through. Shop whilst you read! Ethical Elephant Vicki Ly is the vegan beauty behind blog Ethical Elephant, in which she portrays the ultimate cruelty free and vegan guide. What caught our eye with Vicki’s blog, was a question she openly answered on her Abouts page - “How do we get people to care about animals enough to change their consumer habits?”. And it is a question with many answers. From reviews to guides, she has put together things we take advantage of in our day to day lives, that we could develop and help better the environment. Whether that is what the best vegan nail polishes to best gifts for him. The layout of the website is very clean and easily accessible, with a feminine touch.
Sustainably Chic Name is in the title of the blog. Has to be said, it is the chicest blog in the world of pro eco friendly. Sustainably Chic brings an elegant take on all things sustainable. It is the destination for people to go to that love supporting the improvement of our environment and bring into our everyday habits. The fascination behind the blog is how founder Natalie started with a fast fashion mindset, until realizing the negative impact it created behind what we are putting into the world. Fast Fashion follower to know Sustainable Chic supporter, the blog creates different topics for you to be able to access the site easily and what brands to support that are behind the same beliefs within the eco friendly world as Natalie is.

Longer days, warmer weather, winter is coming to an end leaving its place to Spring. It is time to freshen up the wardrobe with different colours and fabrics and get ready to welcome the good season in the best way possible. The Resort 2019 gives us an idea of what to expect in terms of trend for the upcoming Spring/Summer. Along with the “groundbreaking florals and pastel colours, we find a captivating array of textures and effects, varying from lace to satin, and colours and patterns like optical white and landscapes prints. The real star of the show though, remains layering, an extremely interesting and versatile theme that allows us to play around with every item in our closet and, why not, re-use some old garments we forgot we had. LATEST art by Masha Mitrofanova 1. MILAN | Margherita Sarfatti Margherita Sarfatti was an influential writer, journalist and most importantly an art critic. Cleverly put together by curators like Anna Maria Montaldo and Danka Giacon with the collaboration of Antonello Negri, the exhibition brilliantly portrays the pivotal role of Sarfatti in 20th century modern art through the works of 40 artists : Umberto Boccioni, Pompeo Borr and Giorgio de Chirico just to mention a few. Not only her contribution shaped the prominence of many artists, Sarfatti’s championing women in the creation of magazine La Difesa delle Lavoratrici made her one of the spearheads in women’s rights movement in Italy. Museo Del Novecento 21.09.2018 - 24.02.2019 2. PARIS | Black models: from Géricault to Matisse What a better way to learn and educate oneself on racial, political and social issues if not through history of art. This exhibition aims to provide a long-term perspective in the representation of African American figures in visual chronicle from the abolition of slavery in France (1794) to the modern day. The dialogue between the artist and the model present is still at the core of representation showed. Unfortunately, dominantly male artists are a part of the display including Théodore Géricault, Charles Cordier, Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, Edouard Manet, Paul Cézanne and Henri Matisse. Musée d’Orsay 26.03 - 21.06.2019 3. LONDON | Night and Day: 1930s Fashion and Photographs Following the accomplished exhibition about the 1920’s decade and Jazz Age at the Fashion and Textile Museum, the exploration of the 1930’s era only seemed well reasoned. AMSTERDAM | Made In Italy Although past fashion week in Milan it was clear that the designers are struggling to grasp the by gone flair of Italian style, ‘Made In Italy’ is still a label many deem worth. It all started with a bad holiday.
stranded in plastic, carrying empty nets. All that garbage threatened both the life in and out of the sea.
Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulze just wanted to celebrate the end of college taking a trip to Bali, in 2015, aiming to get some of the best waves in the world. But what they found lead them further their expectations.
Every year Indonesia produces 3.2 tons of plastic, spilling over the sea 1.2 tons of garbage. Last november a whale died on the beach of Wakatobi, poisoned by 13 pounds of trash found inside its corpse.
We see every day images of seashores wasted by tons of plastic garbage, pictures showing us where our trash goes after we’ve emptied the bin. Andrew and Alex felt it under their bare foot, walking on a junkyard, and watching indonesian fishermen struggling with boats
The idea of Cooper and Schulze, founders of 4Ocean association, was clear as simple: if fishermen couldn’t get fishes, maybe they can try with plastic. In a bunch of years the two surfers set up a little fleet, involving 150 employees from all over the world and turning war
LATEST CONSCIOUS on pollution into a real business. Cleaning the sea one pound at a time, 4Ocean workers utilize the plastic caught in their nets to create their line of exlusive bracelets, including limited editions, available in their shop online. “One bracelet, one pound” it’s the motto. A counter on the 4Ocean’ site is constantly updated, to report the weight of their work. “We came up with the idea in Bali - says Schulze in a recent interview for surfer. com - came back to Florida and came up with the business model where Andrew and I could be hands-on and really prove the concept. We started cleaning the beaches in Florida ourselves, then, when we really got the business rolling, we hired our first captain. Then we hired our second, our third and we built out our entire team. We went back to Bali and started our entire operation and we just recently opened up in Haiti” Also, for Andrew Cooper, “we live in a world of consumerism, and every purchase we make is a vote and it’s the big brands that are counting the ballots. If we can teach people to use their dollar to vote for a company that’s doing good they will listen and these big brands will start using ocean plastic in their products”. Taking something that is believed to have no value, and transforming it in something invaluable. Like a piece of jewelry, or like the idea of saving our world.

CENTRAL PARK luxury residential & spa - Tulum
The Mayan Riviera is for sure a paradise on earth, a place where it seems impossible to feel unhappy. Beaches, coral reefs, jungle, animals of all kinds and the characteristic cenotes will make your stay something unforgettable. By Marta Forgione
LATEST PARADISE Tulum beach, in particular, is considered one of the 10 most beautiful in the world. Arriving at the ruins, looking down from the cliff is easy to understand why. In this small town, grown near the respective ruins, we found another true paradise by Los Amigos group. Built by man but in true communion with nature, Tulum Central Park was certainly a fantastic ecological discovery. 10000 m2 of luxury and complete relax created with new renewable technologies such as Smartflower®, an intelligent and advanced solar system surrounded by the city’s largest pool area, biological water treatment plant, transparent solar integration, Tesla and zero emission charging stations. It was designed to be the first major development in the area that leaves minimal impact on the environment. Spa, gym, healthy food restaurant with vegan and glutenfree available options, free climbing wall, various private swimming pools attached to the apartments, including some transparent and suspended off the property. Needless to say, we were treated so well, the staff is really kind, professional and willing to help for any problem that may arise. The apartments are perfect from every point of view, from the comfort to the aesthetic taste with they have been furnished. Around Tulum you can reach magical places in short while, it is a perfect location for a trip that can never be boring. You can visit dream beaches like Akumal, where you can swim together with giant turtles and rays; ruins of the Mayan cities like Cobà or, in a couple of hours by car, the great Chichén Itzà; various incredible Cenotes such as the classic Great Cenote or the caves of Sac Actun (to visit as much as possible, each of them has its own particularity that you will never forget); colonial style city like Valladolid or Playa del Carmen for those who want to have fun; jungle hikes and nature reserves to completely immerse yourself in nature and, if you’re lucky as we were, even see a jaguar crossing your road.
