EDITOR’S LETTER
We are not an INDIE MAGAZINE So many times people have asked me the question, ‘why fashion?’ This is a question I have never been able to answer until recently. When I was 12 I started drawing and I copied magazine covers and editorial photos which has always fascinated me. I’ve studied in an art high school that focused on graphic and digital communication, later in a fashion designer academy, and then I studied photography. I’ve been in fashion for so many years and lately I’ve been enjoying fashion shots lesser and lesser. Now, I understand that I do not like the current photography styles, it does not reflect my fashion vision, and this made me understand what I really liked. I think there are many problems in life, bad things happen, but I’d like to look at a nice editorial and think about beauty, youth, good clothes, sensuality, health, yet nowadays I only see images with dark lights and models that look like they’re sick. Furthermore, I do not think brands can be enhanced by this type of photography. At least for me this was not enough therefore it gave birth to Latest Magazine. In these pages I hope that you will find joy in fashion, beauty, carefreeness and a bit of superficiality that can sometimes get us out of the hard reality and helps us to think positively. It is not the typical suits you see everywhere, this season office attire is glamming up for the streets. These perfectly tailored garments will empower the wearer while also carrying summer hues to slowly transition fashion into autumn. By Alya Barutoglu

“EGYPT MAY SEEM VERY FAR AWAY YET...”
Editor’s letter
Egypt may seem very far away yet ‘Voyage Aux Bords du Nil 1940’ brings the East closer to the Western world. The debut collection of Anne Marie K, the first Egyptian Central Saint Martins Fashion Design graduate, uses traditional Egyptian craftsmanship with modern tailoring. Inspired by the journey taken by a contemporary woman down the Nile, each piece embodies the tale of the different cities of Egypt. Shaped by customary techniques such as tentmaking and tulle belle technique, the designer reinvents wearing accustomed craftsmanship with her contemporary take on garment-making. Each artistry in the collection is done with a customary technique by Egyptian women. Thus Anne Marie K aspires to improve the wellbeing and empowerment of women in Egypt by introducing these craftsmanship to the West. The collection gives an oriental essence with the use of blues, greens, and mustardy oranges from the Montrebia flower all from alluring scenes of Egypt. Although the tailoring is distinctly modern, Anne Marie preserves her roots by manifesting Egyptian traditions with the colours, motifs and crafts used in

the collection. The name of the collection itself comes from the tailoring techniques of 1940, which the designer elaborated to keep the collection desirable in the present. The contrast of the Eastern and Western Worlds are appreciated through many pieces in the collection; this concept can be identified through the navy suit where the front is classic, while the back is unconventional with transparent panels. These features are attributable to Anne Marie’s detailed artistry with the approach of infusing her cultural identity with the modern fashion world. Isn’t everything in life better in contrast? Even with fashion; the best colour to compliment black is white. Likewise, merging one culture with another simply generates the best of both worlds. Anne Marie’s debut collection, gives you a taste of Egypt without travelling a long way. So, are you packed? Because we’re taking an authentic journey down the Nile River. Alya Barutoglu

Sun may be the best highlighter during summer but we all need tricks to glam up our skin in vacation season. Even though you may get used to the natural beach waves near the seaside or lay hours under the sun to get a tan, you might be mistreating your skin. If you’d like to stay make-up free for the whole season, not just for your vacation, take a note of our beauty tips to retreat yourself. Everyone knows the struggle of finding the right concealer for your tanning skin but you can skip the concealer with the right face protections. While you’re at it regain your trust in sun lotions with ones that are not greasy like the products you’re used to. You’d think D vitamins are the best nourishment in the long term, but conversely it could be damaging your skin. So you should consider moisturising and protecting yourself even though we know how badly you want to tan. If you envy the natural body glow of celebrities and models, you should know that they all owe it to their favourite moisturisers and creams. Some women cannot go through the summer without make-up, if you’re one of those women don’t worry we’ve got you covered too. Although summer nights are somewhat breezy, it is still too hot to wear heavy products. Choosing lighter alternatives will get you through the day without having to wipe off your running mascara. You can still wear a bold red lipstick to match your summer dress or even wear a mascara during an outing to the beach party, or if your waves aren’t wavy enough, give a
S K I N PERFECT test to some products and flaunt it like you’ve always had it. The sun nourishes your hair and sometimes gives you natural highlights but don’t forget to guard your hair from getting dry. Mineral rich hair sprays and gentle mousses will give the desired style. The season is about embracing your natural looks so you don’t need to go overboard with excessive hair products. Opt for some gentle products to get some help, but don’t drown yourself with countless hours spent in the bathroom. Summer beauty is not only for those whom indulge themselves near the seaside, if you are still working in the city you can carry the season’s beauty trends to the office. The heat makes all beauty routines too tiring, so take use of this season to parade your natural allure. Instead of wearing your habitual make-up, attempt to take off some layers and reflect your pure glow. Moisturisers and lotions are your best friend when targeting an organic look. We can’t help but remind Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ song since summer is all about cherishing your given charm, even the weather agrees, as our same old beauty products sweat away with the heat. Holiday season has come and we all know the struggle of running between your wardrobe and luggage to decide what to take on your trip. This summer you can match with the striped lounge chairs as bold and colourful stripes take over the fashion world. Thankfully the trends also match the extremely hot weathers of summer with; airy cutouts, bare shoulders and shirt dresses which are all perfect for your seaside vacation.

made a comeback in the Spring/Summer 2017 runways, so why don’t you pack a few of your dazzling anklets to upgrade your casual look. Another must have accessory for this summer is sailor hats which will give a Français look combined with your metallic sunglasses.
Packing underwear is essential, but this season you need a few more pieces as under garments become the new tops, matched with yet another style, sheer blouses, the pair will give you a flawless finish. If this is too risky for your taste, go for a jumpsuit. It is effortless, yet chic, with many options of daring colours, opt for a floral or pop-art piece to look straight out of a fashion magazine.
One of the most pleasing things while you’re on vacation is the notion of losing track of time. Bronzing under the sun on the chaise-long, match your swimsuit with a bright yellow colour which is one of the popular colours of 2017. After a quick dip in the water go for a light read with From Rockaway by Jill Eisenstadt which will take you on a trip while you’re on vacation. As the sun starts to set and the sky turns to a pinkish colour, end your spectacular day with a dazzling pink flowy dress while you make your way to a boutique restaurant near the seaside.
You’re almost done packing but don’t forget to pack some of the latest accessory trends as it is crucial to stand out while you’re sipping Pina-Coladas near the beach. Sandals are a must item in your holiday luggage but anklets have
All packed up and ready for a relaxing timeoff, remember to discover the hidden gems of your destination. And be sure to capture some memorable moments while you’re flaunting the trends of Summer 2017. Alya Barutoglu

Picture yourself walking to your local gym, the warmth strongly hitting you, having finally arrived to your destination, bracing yourself to workout in a room full of equipments, and possibly several individuals. If not, do not worry. It is understandable that working out religiously in the gym, particularly in this hot weather can be very difficult at times. But what if I told you: you can lose calories, reach your desired goals, look stylish doing so and, enjoy the fresh air and sun. This can be accomplished by playing some of the most popular and amusing outdoor sports. Which sports you may ask? Of course I’m referring to; Tennis, Volleyball, Badminton, Running and cycling. There’s just something very therapeutic about working out in the fresh air. You will be embracing the atmosphere you’re in, appreciating the scenery surrounding you, and taking in the fresh air like never before. Whether you’re a beginner at playing volleyball or the next Serena Williams as you step onto that court, the aftermath of the work out will leave a smile on your face.

However, let’s not forget the importance of maintaining your clear skin when playing or exercising outside. Extensive exposure to the sun can be very detrimental as harmful UV exposure leads to sunburn and dehydration. To avoid this, it is essential to apply sunscreen all over your body before exposing yourself to the sun. Next, ensure you drink at least 1-2 litres of water a day. Sounds a lot but I promise you, you will not regret this. Our skin encompasses a great deal of water, therefore when our bodies lacks this fluid, it can lead to dry skin and possibly wrinkles. Water hydrates our skin, energises muscles and also aids towards the control of calories. So get drinking! Now, I’m sure you’ve already heard this before but you must also wash your face before and after exercising. Sweat clogs your pores, for that reason, washing your face with hot then cold water is imperative. As a result, you are removing the bacterias in your pores, avoiding future break-outs and maintaining clear skin. Isn’t this every girls dream? Raissa Coulibaly
