KAREN BROWN Patient Profile
by James Bridges On a quiet little neighborhood side street I was searching for the address. I couldn’t help but notice all the chunky streets, dead leaves, spring sounds in the distance, then there at the end of a cuddle sack, in the outerbanks of Oklahoma was a little quite inviting home and Karen Brown was inside waiting to tell a story. “I was born in California, I have 2 brothers, we were moved back and forth a lot until our parents finally divorced. I spent a lot of time on beaches and in the ‘Marijuana Movement’. Then we moved and were raised In Oklahoma....” Karen instantly grabbed me as a “matterof-fact” type. I found out why. “I was diagnosed with emphysema.” She started… All I started hearing were acronyms and terminology... smoking.. EKG...units...Trauma...MRI...call lights..., and then ……. About five years ago basal cell carcinoma stepped up to its turn at bat with Karen’s immune system. “It first started on top of my head, they had to go fairly deep. I could actually feel and hear the doctors digging around up there. It was very disturbing.” While describing the actual removal procedure from her scalp all I could see and hear at one point were finger nails being scratched down a chalkboard...
PAGE 06
“So I’ve had nine more removals since and one scheduled for May.” She said with what I gathered was a sarcastic smile, or maybe she is just such a “matter-of-fact” type that I misunderstood. “Now...I have Melanoma on the top of my leg. I’m a redhead so I guess moles might be common but for me, it remains scary every time I go.” Karen continued with her pointing out of ailments. In January of 2020 Karen was having issues that pointed her toward a possible “bad vape” issue. Karen thankfully was able to continue medication using cannabis oil. Since her recovery Karen has taken several tests for lung damage.
Herbage Magazine
“I was raised pentacostal. We don’t cut our hair growing up pentacostal.”
Karen smiled and said, “I had to have a lung chamber test. Thankfully, after a couple weeks, I am not all the way back, but much better.” According to Karen, cannabis is essential to her functioning. There’s no question that it has always been part of her life, but on a medicinal level cannabis is saving it. As she showed me through the rest of her comfortable home I noticed the pride she had in her own home grow space. As I left the door closing on the subtle ambiance of a guitar playing in the background I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful yard in my rearview.

“Here in Oklahoma, Here for you”
Talk Terpy to Me by Rayne Graham Terpenes, we have all heard about them and how good they are for our cannabis experience, but what are they? What are some of them and what strains are they prevalent in? These are all questions that have run through my mind when I first heard about terpenes and I am willing to bet some of you have the same ones. So, let’s start with what Terpenes are exactly. Terpenes are not specific to cannabis; they are actually something that you have been experiencing your whole life. That lemon smell when you sip your fresh squeezed lemonade? Terps. That pine smell when you walk through pine trees? Terps. That citrus smell from those delicious cutie oranges? Yes, you guessed it, Terps. In short, terpenes are the chemicals that determine how things smell. Cannabinoids and terpenes work together when it comes to making up the sensory experience of cannabis plants however, and this is called the entourage effect. This means all the compounds of the plant work together to create a top-notch medical experience for the cannabis user. Have you ever noticed that two similar Cannabis strains can produce profoundly different effects? One might have you energized like the energizer bunny while the other has you melting into the couch as if you were built into it? This is the entourage effect in action and that is driven by both terpenes and cannabinoids. Now that we have an idea of what terpenes are, let’s discuss some popular smells! I say popular because there are over 20,000 different terpenes so listing them all would be insane! ALPHA PINENE AND BETA-PINENE Normally found in pinecones, dill, parsley, basil, and Rosemary, this terpene has a very piney aroma, obviously. The effects are alertness, euphoria, creativity, and memory restoration. Its medical benefits are helpful for patients with Asthma and can be used as an antiseptic. Popular strains that Pinene can be found in are Trainwreck, Bubba Kush, and Super Silver Haze. MYRCENE Found in Mango, Thyme, Lemongrass, and hops, Myrcene has a very musky earthy aroma with hints of citrus. The effects are couchlock, sedation, relaxation, and a body high. Its medical benefits can be used to reduce pain, muscle tension, and restlessness. Popular strains that Myrcene can be found in are White Widow, Pure Kush, and Skunk #1. LIMONENE Found in juniper, rosemary, peppermint, and fruit rinds, Limonene is true to its name with a citrus aroma. The effects are an elevated mood and stress relief. Medical benefits can be used for gallstones, heartburn, depression, and it can be used as an anti-fungal. Popular strains are Super Lemon Haze, OG Kush, and Jack the Ripper. LINALOOL Found in lavender, linalool has a floral, candy, citrus aroma. The effects are anxiety relief and sedation. The medical benefits help with anxiety, depression, and acne. Popular strains are LA confidential, G-13, and Amnesia Haze. CARYOPHYLLENE Found in pepper and clove, Caryophyllene has a woody spice aroma. Although there are no noted effects of this Terpene yet, the medical benefits make it worth a try. Relieving chronic pain and insomnia are two great reasons. Popular strains are White Widow and OG Kush.

Pediatric Cannabis Therapy The Gate Keepers If you had asked me when my oldest child was a baby if I would ever give my children cannabis, I would have said ‘never.’ I wouldn’t have ingested it myself, and I definitely didn’t support people using it— not even my loved ones who benefited from it. I recognize now how misinformed I was, and I don’t feel ashamed of it... I feel liberated. The wool was over my eyes and it didn’t matter how much research there was. But that changed when I found myself needing cannabis, and suddenly I could see how perhaps even my children could benefit. What followed was a journey through a gate that not many had opened before me, at least not publicly. This month, the month of May, we celebrate mothers. In that spirit, I am focusing on the mothers of the pediatric cannabis patients. I recognize that many homes have equally involved dads out there, and we celebrate them... but I’m saving that for June.

Apartment Grow
by Rayne Graham Oklahoma has quickly become known as the “Homegrow” state thanks to the fact that we are legally allowed to have 6 plants and 6 seedlings as Medical Marijuana patients. There is so much to benefit from when growing your own cannabis at home. You get to decide everything from the growing medium to what nutrients or lack of you will be using. There is also a lot to be said about being involved from seed to smoke when it comes to our own medicine. Being a home cannabis grower is rewarding, fun, and educational. However, what about those of us that do not live in a house? Were talking about the high rise, townhome, and apartment dwellers. Just because we don’t have a garage to build out or a yard to post a 10-foot fence around, doesn’t mean we don’t deserve to enjoy the benefits of a home grow. Good news! There are ways to become an apartment home grower and here are some tips to get you started! ASK PERMISSION We are part of the LEGAL cannabis community; therefore, we need to be sure that we follow the laws of Oklahoma. This means, before we start working on building a small grow for our apartment, we need to ask permission from the manager first. This is also something to keep in mind if you are apartment shopping, so you know before you even move in if you are able to grow your medicine there. As far as growing indoors when you have a small space like an apartment or house with no garage, there are three options; a grow box, grow tent, or closet. It is important to note that temperature, airflow, and humidity are the key aspects to a successful cannabis grow when making the decision on where your plant babies will thrive. For example, a closet seems like the perfect enclosed out of the way place to grow right? Actually, closets can actually present many challenges to airflow, temperature, and humidity, our three basics! At the basis you will have to figure out how to duct your exhaust through an existing dryer vent or window without stinking up the whole building. There are carbon filters that can help with this but every piece of material added equals money spent so keep your budget in mind when choosing your spot. Grow tents can be a great option because they are reasonably priced and are pretty easy to set up. I mean, they are specifically designed for growing so that is a major plus over the closet. Another positive for the grow tent is they can help prevent wall and floor damage from watering spills and humidity. Downside is that you will need room to put the tent that has good airflow. If you choose to place it outside on an enclosed patio for instance, you will need to worry about temp and airflow depending on weather conditions. Grow boxes are a really one of the best options for apartment and small home dwellers. However, keep in mind this option can run pretty pricy, as in $2,000-$10,000 depending on the set up. Grow boxes are self-contained grow spaces, some look like mini fridges, that can come pre-equipped with what you need to grow your cannabis all in one box wrapped nicely with a bow! Say hello to lighting, ventilation, and, if you so choose, a hydroponic PAGE setup. The sky is the limit! 14
If you are lucky enough to have a patio or roof space on your apartment or townhome, there are some options for you when it comes to your home grow. You will want to be sure that the space is not visible from wondering eyes, by law. So, if someone can walk by and see it then you need to be sure to put up some sort of fencing, guarding, patio cover, etc. One option is raised garden beds! Yes, the ones that we use for herb and vegetable gardens. Be sure you are paying attention to your three basics of your grow, for instance if you are going to use natural sunlight then plant when the timing is correct for optimal growth just as you would a flower garden. Another option for your outdoor enclosed space is a grow tent! Yes, the same one we discussed using indoors can be used outdoors. As noted above, be sure that you have enough ventilation especially since we live in crack an egg on the sidewalk and its cooked in a second heat during the summer months here in Oklahoma. Indoor or outdoor, there are plenty of small space living home cannabis grow options and we hope that this list helps you get started on your journey.
Cleaning Your Glass
by Rayne Graham
I don’t know about you, but I am a glass girl all the way when it comes to my medical marijuana consumption. I love the way glass and water make the flower taste and of course, that is only possible to enjoy thoroughly when the glass I am smoking out of is clean. Whether it is a bong, pipe, or dab rig, it is important to keep them clean. Why? Well, tasting more resin than terpenes isn’t really a benefiting experience medically or recreationally, for that matter. I mean, have you ever tasted it? So gross! Another reason that is even better than the first one for keeping your glass clean is mold. Stagnant water that is open to air and loaded with resin chunks is a perfect breeding ground for not only mold but also pests. I prefer my Pineapple Express without a side of ants or fly thank you. Also, I don’t want that respiratory infection just waiting to happen, do you? I didn’t think so. Here are a couple things to keep in mind when cleaning your glass so you can taste the full flavor of your smoke every time. You should be cleaning your bong daily and pipes once a week at least. It doesn’t matter if you smoke a lot or a little, all that matters is that you have clean water in your bong and a clear pipe to smoke from every time.
The Old School Method
Isopropyl alcohol is the time-honored tradition among the old school cannabis community. It keeps glassware in great shape and is safe to use for cleaning. I would recommend that you use 91% or higher when purchasing the isopropyl alcohol. You will also need: Rock Salt, it is coarse and will “scrub” your bong while you shake it. Pipe cleaners, for those hard to reach spots. Rubber cabs to place on the ends of the bong so water doesn’t leak out. Plastic gloves, so the glass doesn’t slip out of your hands AND who really wants to find out if they have a papercut that way? Now that we know what we need lets talk about how to get our bong cleaned!
1.Remove all detachable parts with a particular focus on the stem and bowl. Make sure you rinse every piece with hot water to get rid of the gunge inside. 2.Add the alcohol and salt to the bong. Experienced users suggest that adding the salt firt is crucial. Otherwise, the alcohol dissolves it, and it goes to waste. Use the rubber cap to cover the tube and stem after adding the isopropyl alcohol. 3.With the alcohol and salt in your bong, shake it vigorously like a bartender in a YouTube video for a minimum of five minutes. If you failed to cover all the holes, now is the time you will regret it! 4.If you have not cleaned your bong in a while, you may have to repeat all of the above steps at least once more. If your bong is exceedingly dirty, allow it to soak in the solution for a few hours. 5.Pour the solution into the toilet bowl and flush once finished. If you pour it in the sink you will have resin spots everywhere! Soak pipe cleaners in the solution and use them to scrub the nooks and crannies of your bong. 6.Rinse out and Boom! Sparkly clean! 7.If you are cleaning a pipe simply immerse it in the alcohol and salt solution for several minutes to hours depending on how long it has been since your last cleaning.

Let’s get this out of the way... I do not claim to be an expert, but I do know the stuff I like. A few people, for some weird reason, want to know what I like. Hell, I’m just a publisher that loves cannabis. This is it.
PUB s Choice I’m an “in-the-couch” kind of guy so I love my smoke on the low and slow side. Like many of us earthy/skunky lovers we realize that if “in the couch” is missing then all hell may at some point break loose from whatever fine thread it’s already hanging by. Furthermore, I still like to dabble with the fruity/heady stuff! It’s a delima. I made my way to the medicine man. Quick… After explaining this horrible problem, my trusted guide ducked behind the counter and popped up with an eighth of something that I would actually consider wearing around my neck during the next vampire outbreak. “Mmmm garlic”, he said. “Mmmm garlic”, I replied with reluctant undertones which I believe he picked up on as he chuckled and took my cash. Typically…..after waking up and medicating with all of the things I can In my bathroom…..I like to walk outside with a joint. I’ll smoke about half of an average size before I start to really feel it. Then I finish her off. With this new found herb, I made it through about a quarter of the way and then I had to have one of those, twist your hand say “damn”, kind of moments. This indica strain that doesn’t necessarily trap you in the couch, but makes you feel as if you were cozily lounging in a cradle while being helped to carry out your functions might be best for you. GMO Cookies is perfect for winding down at the end of the day and enjoying the company of loved ones throughout the evening.

Weed & Wine & Moms Since this month’s issue is devoted to mothers (of which I am one), I am going to digress, in large part, from my usual subject matter—pertinent legal issues that impact Oklahoma cannabis businesses—and offer some observations about America’s evolving acceptance of motherhood and marijuana, as in mother’s who use marijuana medicinally and, in states that allow it, recreationally. Here in Oklahoma, this acceptance remains to be tested, particularly in light of S.B. 1030, passed without an emergency clause or effective date and, therefore, effective on August 26, 2019.

One of the National Law Journal’s 2019 Cannabis Trailblazers!
S.B. 1030 mandated the problematic certificate of compliance for Oklahoma medical marijuana commercial business license applications, and directed OMMA to create a use registry of licensed patients and caregivers, accessible to licensed dispensaries (via the 24-character identifier), law enforcement via the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System, and any court in Oklahoma. The Bill clearly violates HIPAA, and Oklahoma’s Attorney General Mike Hunter stepped in to stay its implementation pending a lawsuit contesting the provision concerning sharing of identifying patient data with law enforcement and the courts. I wrote an article dissecting S.B. 1030 and how it violates HIPAA for Herb-Age last year, and nothing has changed since then. In my prior article, I remarked about how divorce proceedings might take on a whole new tenor, if one parent were to offer evidence of medical marijuana usage against the other in the course of a custody battle, despite S.Q. 788’s language, “[n]o medical marijuana license holder may be denied custody of or visitation or parenting time with a minor, and there is no presumption of neglect or child endangerment for conduct allowed under this law, unless the person’s behavior creates an unreasonable danger to the safety of the minor.” See Title 63, Okla. Stat. § 425(D). S.B. 1030 seems to indicate otherwise—why else would courts be given access to information about whether a civil litigant was a card carrying medical marijuana patient? That said, it does seem that here in Oklahoma and nationally, parents and—for purposes of this issue and its focus on mothers—moms in particular, are discovering that medical marijuana usage and successfully rearing children are not mutually exclusive. The advent of Sweet Jane magazine, a national publication celebrating moms and marijuana published by my friend Katy Ibsen, is a case in point. And I see it in my law practice, where many of my clients are amazing mothers and highly successful medical marijuana business owners. BRAVO! As long ago as the spring of 2018, prior to S.Q. 788’s passage, Jessica Delfino recognized the changing societal attitudes about motherhood and marijuana in an article for High Times, observing, “Mothers and women who use medical marijuana…are often put into a position in which they feel they have to explain themselves and what their condition is, and then steel themselves for the judgment that will inevitably follow.” However, she added, “I think cannabis use in moms is becoming more widespread because it’s becoming more legal, and so people feel more willing and able to discuss it.”
FROM THE FRONT LINES
CHIP PAUL
President & Co-Founder GnuPharma Corp At this writing we are still in lockdown for the Covid virus. Oklahomans are hopeful of a May restart. Our cannabis businesses having been deemed ESSENTIAL, and are still operating at the same pre-covid clip. This essential designation will prove to be extremely important in the future and more on that later. Thank goodness for the designation as patients would not be able to get their medicine and many commercial businesses would not be able to apply for the SBA loans and other assistance. Please thank Governor Stitt. None of us will emerge from the crisis the same way we entered it. If nothing else, we will certainly be wiser. May is the month of Mother’s Day and the time we celebrate our mothers. My mom is an amazing women. Always able to love, alway able to see folks for who they really are, rather than what they want you to see. Mom can find the good in anyone, point it out, and demand you respect it. She has friends all over the world due to this wonderful trait. Further, she is a fantastic singer, and while at times irksome, I grew up listening to show tunes being sung by my mom. How cool is that!
Coming out of covid, Perhaps we can all learn some lessons from my mom. Love over money. Seeing the good over the bad. FINDING the good in folks rather than hunting and pecking for the bad. It is time for change. In the World, in the United States, in Oklahoma, in our industry, and perhaps even in us. Let’s make May a month of love! If nothing else out of respect for our Mothers.

cont18: As it turns out, cannabis and parenting workshops are proliferating, and Marijuana Moms groups have now come into their own. Marijuana has recognized medicinal benefits and mothers are certainly not immune to them.2 Micro-dosing CBD and medical marijuana have become popular among mothers, and more mom-conducive products are emerging. Today, in 2020, pot-education programs targeting mothers are common. It is interesting that society generally accepts mothers who drink wine to relax, but can still attach a stigma to those who prefer a joint or edible. And yet, when you really compare the two—wine and weed—there are a lot of similarities, not the least of which are complexity, aromas, flavors, food pairings, and even terroir. Just as with wine, the sun, soil, and water contribute to the flavors and aromas of cannabis strains. In recognition of this fact, the California Department of Food and Agriculture has launched the CalCannabis Appellations Project, to allow licensed cultivators to establish appellation standards emphasizing the terroir of various cannabis growing regions. Wine Enthusiast explored the common ground of cannabis and wine in a post by Jodi Helmer, interviewing Philip Wolf, founder of Cultivating Spirits, who hosts cannabis dinners across the country, working with chefs and cannabis sommeliers, and Jamie Evans, a 2018 Wine Enthusiast 40 Under 40 honoree who studied viticulture at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and now applies her wine studies concerning sensory evaluation to cannabis in a fabulous venture she launched in 2017, The Herb Somm.
The Herb Somm hosts private cannabis tastings and culinary events which are open to anyone who can make a reservation before the event becomes, inevitably, sold out. In pairing wine and weed, Evans creates a pairing chart featuring common terpenes along with their aromas, benefits, effects, popular strains and suggested food and wine pairings. She suggests guests use a dry-flower vaporizer to release aromas and flavors. As to specific pairings, Evans recommends guests “[p]air lighter strains of marijuana with white wines, and bolder strains with red wines. Sativa strains pair best with lighter fare like fish and vegetables. Indica strains are a better choice with heavier dishes like steak and comfort foods.” In even more detail, she observes that “aromas of clove, black pepper, and cinnamon common in strains like Rockstar and Northern Lights are due to the beta-caryophyllene terpene”, a good pain reliever and anti-inflammatory that helps reduce stress and, in Evans’s words, “complements pumpkin pie, seared steak, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon.” So, what’s the take-away here? To all you mothers, Happy Mother’s Day! Whether you like wine, weed, neither, or a combo, enjoy your special day! If our Legislature passes HB 3227, you can also enjoy home delivery of your favorite strain of medical marijuana (if you are a licensed Oklahoma patient) and your favorite wine, in spite of, or perhaps because of, this horrific global pandemic. And in that regard, whatever you do, please stay safe and be well. God bless you
Ganja Mom by Amy Lee There is a shift happening in society regarding “mom groups” and I support it 100 percent. Emerging from the shadows of social media groups is a force of “new” moms standing tall in who they are and what they stand for unapologetically. They have been here all along but now they don’t care what you think of them. Meet The Ganja Mom, she is a cannabis educated woman who has done her research on the incredible wellness benefits of cannabis and isn’t afraid to share her useage or knowledge with anyone and everyone including her children. The Ganja Mom understands that cannabis is a tool used to encourage mental and physical balance and supports the endocannabinoid system with daily cannabis use. In fact some of the medical marijuana industry’s loudest advocates are mothers, who not only support the use of medical marijuana for their children but also for themselves. As a single mother, I am no stranger to the stress and worries that come with raising a child. Personally, I started medicating again after my daughter was born, when I was suffering from severe postpartum depression as well as many other health issues. I found the most relief when I was able to medicate daily and consistently. Cannabis provided a greater sense of relief than any prescription without the harsh side effects throughout my body. I was able to reduce my anxiety, stress, scatterbrain and improve my sleep throughout the night within the first use. I was also able to slow down my “busy day” to appreciate the joy in each moment of raising my PAGE 18daughter, something
I wasn’t doing previously due to my stress levels. A recent survey of 10,000 California cannabis consumers conducted by Eaze Insights found that 63 percent of parents are daily cannabis consumers, further supporting that medicating daily is assisting parents in many ways and opening a door to a new generation of child rearing. As a certified Cannacian and health coach, I take every opportunity to educate my daughter on the many wellness benefits of cannabis and proper nutrition. Many moms are taking the same opportunity to educate their children about cannabis use for wellness.

Add all ingredients for the meltaways to a food processor and process until everything is well combined. The mixture should have a smooth and thick consistency, like raw cookie dough. Test the mixture by taking out a spoonful to see if it’s firm enough to roll into a ball shape. Depending on the type of sweetener you use, you may need to let them firm a little in the refrigerator before rolling into a ball. If they aren’t firm enough to roll into a ball shape, put the mixture in the refrigerator for about 10-15 minutes, then remove.
Prepare the Balls
Use a small cookie scoop or small spoonful to take a small amount at a time and roll them into the palms of your hands into a ball shape. If they start to stick to the palms of your hands, just rub a tiny amount of coconut oil on your palms and continue. You may leave them plain, or roll the balls in organic shredded coconut flakes, organic cane sugar (not lectin-free) or organic powdered sugar (not raw or lectin-free). Place the balls on the prepared cookie sheet and transfer them to the refrigerator for about 15-30 minutes to firm. Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve because they will get soft and lose their shape if left out at room temperature.
Assembly
1 1/2 cups almond flour 1/4 cup organic lemon juice 1/4 cup 100mg THC Silver Haze from Envie Cannabis Boutique 1/4 cup organic maple syrup* 1/3 cup organic coconut flour 1 tablespoon organic lemon zest or 4 drops of Organic Lemon Essential Oil 1/2 teaspoon organic pure vanilla extract** 1 pinch Himalayan pink salt
Ingredients
It is easy to substitute the regular coconut oil with an infused coconut oil and create delicious edibles with a low dose, perfect for microdosing. The strain I used was provided by Envie Cannabis Boutique in Tulsa, OK and is Sativa dominant to assist stimulating my endocannabinoid system. These delicious lemon meltaways are low in carbohydrates, free of artificial sugars, and won’t derail me from my goals. The one thing I like the most about this recipe is how simple it is to make and the quantity it yields.

Oracle
Please email Brittney@herbagemag.com I look forward to hearing form you all
Today I am using the Herbiary Oracle card set because it is all about herbs and botanicals that make for great plant-based medicine. Isn’t that what this community is all about? When I pulled from the deck, I asked for a message for the collective energy of the Oklahoma Cannabis Community and this is what I received: Thyme; Distill Yourself. This card is telling us that as Thyme is a purifier, we must also purify our thoughts so we can see what is true. Have you seen your true path and turned away? Or have you stepped onto the path only to become unsure or distracted? Thyme is calling you back and asking, which path will you walk? This message might not resonate with everyone reading this, but it is telling whoever needs to hear this that its time to cleanse your thoughts and believe in yourself on the next step of your journey, you are not alone. The strain recommendation I want to make when it comes to being a companion for this card is the Hybrid Cherry Pie. With all of this inner work, path choosing, and cleansing going on during a time of social distancing this strain can help keep us relaxed and in a good mood. I also want to add that it tastes delicious, like a cherry tarte, so it is a win/win to give it a try! Some effects to be prepared for are dry mouth and dry eyes so keep some water and eye drops nearby. Hello Everyone! Welcome to the very first Green Oracle. You know ask Abby? Well, this is a little bit like that. I want you, yes, you reading this right now, to ask me your questions. We are talking life questions or cannabis questions. Each month I will choose a few of those questions and answer them right here in the Green Oracle. Life questions will receive an oracle card pull as well as an answer to your question! Be aware, I am honest, blunt, sarcastic, and humorous. This means we want to keep the questions lighthearted and fun because that is how the answers will be coming to you. Of course, cannabis questions will be answered informatively! Do you have a question about a brand that you have recently heard about? Ask the Green Oracle! Do you have a question about your home grow? Ask the Green Oracle? Bored during social distancing and have a “high” question? Ask the Green Oracle. This is meant to be fun for everyone as well as informative, so the sky is the limit people. Please note, you will always remain anonymous when your question is printed, and no real names will be used. So where is the green part? Well, just like in my Strainology feature, I will be adding a cannabis strain to your answer to help out with the situation. I might also just throw a strain I think you should try in there for fun, just a heads up. To start this off on a good note, I thought it would be nice to do an oracle card pull for the Oklahoma Cannabis Community as a whole and recommend a Cannabis strain to accompany it. Are you in? Let’s do this.

IT’S BLOOMING IN OKLAHOMA West Coast based Bloom brand is making its way to Tulsa Oklahoma. The company made the announcement on both their main brand Instagram and their Bloom Oklahoma account the last week of April. Known for the Bloom Dart, Bloom One, and Bloom Vape, the company has partnered with Oklahoma based Goatneck LLC. The icing on the cake? Bloom’s CRO had such nice things to say about the Oklahoma cannabis community when he spoke to Benzinga,” The cannabis community in Oklahoma is incredible and I’m thrilled to bring Bloom here. Our roots are in the medical market so I am confident that our experience, particularly in New Mexico, will provide a strong foundation to proudly become Oklahoma’s leading brand.” Here’s to giving it a try!
NO HARD FEELINGS ARKANSAS We are known for being competitive when it comes to football and our neighbors the Razorbacks. But it seems that rivalry has spilled into the field of medical marijuana. I mean, we might not intentionally be competing, but Oklahoma is totally winning, just saying. Due to our laws here in the Sooner state being a little different than our neighbors, our patient count is higher and that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are over 200,000 Medical Marijuana patients as of the end of April in Oklahoma while Arkansas has only a little over 40,000. Another major difference? In Arkansas, patients must have a certain disability or illness but here in OK, are aren’t any requirements when getting a doctors recommendation. Last is pricing, a gram of cannabis flower from our neighbors can be purchased for double the amount of the same quality flower here. And that my friends, is what we like to call a touchdown!
ROLLING IN THE GREEN It isn’t news that the Oklahoma Cannabis Industry has been raking in the tax dollars for the state of Oklahoma since the passing of SQ788. However, we have reached yet another milestone in the journey of solidifying our name in the national cannabis community. According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, Cannabis dispensaries have generated $7.7 million in total tax revenue in the month of March. This makes it the highest grossing month in Medical Marijuana Tax collected since the first tax dollars were reported in November 2018. Although we would like to point out that the number for April isn’t in yet so, I mean, 42020 anyone?

OHANA by Brittiany Adilas Family is everything for most people. Which is exactly what “Ohana” means, family. It’s not just your immediate family either. It’s all the family that “your family” encompasses. For quite a few mixing Ohana and cannabis has been taboo. But, that wasn’t the case for Alicia Napualani Kamakeeaina Grass. Her love for her family and cannabis has led her to have an amazing relationship with her sons and that has allowed their whole lives to flourish by integrating their love of cannabis and its healing properties into everything they do. This all came very naturally to Alicia being from a culture where all generations of a family may live in the same home. She has felt blessed to have that opportunity to really connect with her family that way. Alicia says, “I’m from a community where I wake and go have “breakfast” of THC with a group of Ohana, we discuss what our plans are for the day, burn and get it done. I’ve made cannabis a part of our Ohana life and welcome discussion of any questions or stigmas that arise.”
Being He Hawaii Au (Hawaiian) and growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii, she was always around cannabis. “Where I learned to welcome everyone with open arms, me ke aloha ku’u home ‘o Hawaii, my love my home will always be Hawaii,” Alicia told me. Everyone in her community was very accepting of cannabis and it was something that she never felt afraid of. For some, when something is a normal part of the lives of those around you, there’s no need to try things until you are actually ready to. Especially if you feel safe and happy in that environment. So, at an ideal age of 20 she tried cannabis for the first time. Where you ask? Well, Oklahoma of course! Grand Lake to be exact. “Grand Lake was scattered with boats, tan bodies, water, liquor, orange zig zags and endless amounts of “meh” weed,” according to Alicia. Her love of cannabis truly began that summer, and oh, her love of tan bodies, who could forget those! Throughout her life, so far since that summer, she has incorporated cannabis into most aspects of her life, including raising her sons. Cannabis has a way to help with so many aspects within a person’s life, some may find themselves feeling more whole and content. Alicia has tried to love her life with some of those ideas in mind, allowing for her to really figure out what kind of mom she wants to be and how she would raise her sons. Being that her sons are 23 and 17 now, it seems Alicia has been able to do what we all hope to do as parents, and continue to have a great relationship with our kids as they become adults. Cannabis helped play a huge part of that in their lives. Even to the extent of her oldest son being in the cannabis cultivation part of this versatile industry. Since they are both patients today they now have the opportunity to learn and explore more within cannabis together. Throughout the entirety of Alicia’s motherhood she has used cannabis. As a way to help with her anxiety, as well as, a way for her to handle a L-1 burst fracture spinal cord injury. This occured after being in a car accident. Doctors have told her she should be paralyzed from the waist down. But she isn’t, so Alicia feels huge waves of pain regularly, “ Thank God my body rejects narcotics and that gave me the motivation to start researching the medicinal benefits of cannabis and it’s been an exciting journey,” she told me.
Because of this, Alicia had no choice but to learn more about how to use cannabis medicinally in different forms to help with her health and manage her pain levels. Since cannabis was the route she had to take because of her body rejecting narcotics she has been nothing but open to her doctors about her cannabis use throughout all of her visits and time spent raising her sons. She isn’t about to let her health drag her away from the life that she wanted for her sons and herself. So she started her research on ways of consuming cannabis, what may work best for her ailments and how to properly dose edibles. Since she has to be able to function doing her job as a tax preparer and going to school for biotech and biochem, while staying medicated, all of these aspects were very important to gain a better understanding on. The more she learned about cannabis the easier it became to have discussions with her sons and understand what the more age appropriate answers to give for questions they may have. “You’re providing them with information instead of the internet or friends. I try to make them feel comfortable about asking future questions, I praise them for coming to me with an important question. Shower them with aloha, hugs and kisses....lol Watching them grow up is an absolute honor to be a part of their lives for me,” says Alicia. Which you can truly feel from her when she speaks of her sons. She has a way of making everyone who she speaks with feel that she honors them. Having been through so much in her life she exudes an aura of understanding to a lot of situations and how people may feel in any situation. Family should mean being able to be honest with who you are and still being accepted by those you love. Being within an environment that really does give understanding allows for that family to grow. Since Alicia is able to pursue her passions while still being a great mother, she is able to really give to those that she cares for around her. While still helping to destigmatize cannabis use by contributing to help make masks for essential workers, being a cannabis advocate on social media within informational groups, showing that parents are able to be cannabis patients and still have lasting, loving relationships with their children. Cannabis has penetrated every aspect of her life, but it gives her life. The life that’s important to her sons and all her extended Ohana.
