Authentic Energy Kenny Wilmath - cover artist by James Bridges
A college drop out with only one thing in mind…. Stop wasting time.
Kenny wanted to make it clear he does not allow cannabis in the kids classes, because they aren’t card holders. Pediatric patients are a class of their own. “However, for our adult classes feel free to bring your own snacks, drink, and Cannabis” Kenny laughs. “It’s a great time and we are all doing something for the greater good.”
When Kenny Wilmath was caught red-handed by his mom drawing a picture of his grandfather he never picked up art again until way far into his 4th grade of grammar school.
Kenny wanted to give one last message regarding our near future...“We can’t fall flat on our faces. We have only one way to go and that way is up. Don’t look back, just move forward.”
Kenny had something inside of him that needed to come out and it was something that people had no idea was so important until now.

“It was what I saw in my eye. I was that way then and I will always be authentic to what I see and believe.” Kenny was very passionate about making his point. “I’m able to lay my head down at night knowing what I have done or said that day was from the “real” me and that makes me extremely comfortable within my own self.”” I finally asked the question burning the tip of my tongue, “so why did you get in trouble in the first place?” Kenny replied, “because it looked just like my grandpa and not the way the polished grandpa might look in others eyes.”
Locally
Damn, this guys the real deal. “Yeah, so then once I was introduced to a whole other world of art through my peers, even in the 4th grade, I knew I had some great things in my head that needed to be seen.” Kenny was nearly nonchalant while discussing. In high-school Kenny was encouraged by a special instructor, Kathy Daily. “She’s an amazing artist and an even more amazing influence!” Kenny went on to tell. “She always pushed me to be more. The tutoring was one of those pushes. She is very dear to my heart.”

Kenny possessed… raw talent. So, they asked him to become a tutor to the other students. Kenny was happy to do so. His caring personality started to peak out a bit at me.

Like so many other talented artists... Kenny could not find the challenge or inspiration he needed from college. He left and eventually started shelving his work to the back of a closet. Entering the universe is Kenny’s wife Falyn and brilliant daughter Krista. Krista has autism cerebral palsy & Lennox Gastaut syndrome. “The Lennox Gastaut is our biggest battle because it causes seizures.” Kenny was explaining. Which brings their cannabis journey to light. Kenny and Falyn have found a way to connect a positive and authentic energy to bring awareness for those living with this and other unwanted ailments.

Family connection by Tab Moura
This month is the one year anniversary of when my daughters got their medical cannabis cards. I want to share that snapshot with you, but the snapshot is really just a byproduct of what I want to share today. I came to cannabis therapy by way of an Epilepsy diagnosis. Finding relief, it wasn’t long before I decided to begin using cannabis therapy for my daughters. With Covid shaking things up for everyone this year, the area that impacted our family the most was our therapies we utilize to support their developmental needs. Before I elaborate on that, I want to set the stage. Cannabis is a powerful tool for people like me, who have seizures, because while it helps me protect my brain from the onset of seizures, it also helps me create new connections in the areas of my brain that are impacted by my seizures. While there is less published research on the benefits of cannabis in autism (it’s sufficient, but Epilepsy is far more researched), the research we have shows that it helps improve their quality of life. Beyond what the studies show, there are thousands of families like mine who can give you firsthand accounts of what we’re seeing. Cannabis is helping them focus, reducing anxiety and aggression, improving quality and length of sleep, and helping with underlying stressors like sensory overwhelm and digestion pain. Back to the Covid toss up. When I learned we would be switching 90% of our appointments to tele-health, I was terrified and cautiously relieved. Less wrestling kids into masks, more wrestling kids in front of webcams. Before quarantine, they weren’t having lengthy conversations on FaceTime with friends and family yet, so for the first few weeks or so I just chased them around with a tablet as the therapists shouted suggestions and anecdotes that may or may not be helpful. I wanted to quit, but I have to say, our therapists are saints and I owe them a lifetime of thanks. I definitely don’t believe all therapies and special need supports can be managed virtually, we are fortunate that this has been more successful than not... but I believe we adjusted with a little help from our medicine. Cannabis is known to help support making new neural connections, evidence suggests that this applies to children as well. Watching my daughter, who wasn’t even acknowledging her therapist yet when we met in-person, now sit and have a conversation with her therapist on a screen? Not running around like a tornado? I’ve been seeing miracles happen. Encouraging her to sit still like this wasn’t something I expected to work on until she was a bit older, but it has been something of a necessity given the circumstances. The two of them, each holding a babydoll, using simple language and carrying on together; I didn’t think we could get here outside of a therapy clinic... but here we are. Oh, people will decide for themselves what to think about stories like ours. I know I was skeptical for a long time... but I like to think that having the (legal) right to choose something so life changing, will be something I will be grateful for until the day I die. 07

Habit Change Are You Ready? by Amy Lee
Well, we made it to December 2020. Most of us just barely hanging on by a thread, but here we are still standing, still breathing, and still fighting. That my friend is a celebration in itself. I can honestly say that 2020 has simultaneously been one of the worst and best years of my life. With each devastating blow to my personal life or business, there has been an equal amount of celebration. However, it is with each obstacle that I have the choice to grow. This choice is in my reaction and response. I can choose to wallow, become miserable about the situation, allow it to control my thoughts and energy or I continue to move forward. This year has allowed me the opportunity to grow more than I imagined, even in my darkest of days. If you are ready to leave 2020 in the dust but don’t know how to make a change in your life, I’m here to help. I help my clients every day take charge of their life and create reasonable habit changes within their daily schedule and routine. Below, I have included the four stages of change. Here you can see where you are currently and what steps you need to take to achieve your goals. Contemplation stage: This is where you consider change but now ready to start taking action. You believe your health needs to improve but you are stuck in the “how” mentality. You are not ready to ask for help. Preparation stage: You have decided about the change(s)
8
you would like to make in your life and are ready to take action. This stage requires specific goal setting as you prepare yourself to take action. Action stage: You have been making habit changes in one or more areas of your life to improve your quality of life. You are adjusting to how it feels to eat healthier and move more. This stage also requires working towards overcoming things that hold you back. Maintenance stage: Congratulations! This change has become a habit! You have discovered different ways of sticking with your new favorite routine. When setbacks arise, you are able to get move past them properly. Now that you have the steps to follow to move forward in 2021, here are my favorite ways to stay on track: Hire a wellness coach - Having an educated wellness coach on your support team is extremely beneficial when accountability is an area you struggle. Track your progress in a journal, on your phone, or on an application. Create a healthy environment at home. A balanced lifestyle is more than the food we consume, it’s all areas of our life we consume information and energy. Reward yourself, you deserve it! Treating yourself to something small you enjoy is a great way to reward your success through your growth journey. This can be something simple like an at-home spa night, treating yourself to a fruit smoothie at a smoothie bar, calling a friend, or purchasing a new wellness gadget.

Red Tape in Ponca City by Michael Kinney
All Sergio Villarruel wanted to do was open a marijuana dispensary in his hometown. He was one of the first people in Ponca City to apply for a license when SQ 788 was passed. At that point, it looked like it would be clear sailings and he and his wife Candace would soon be welcoming customers through their front doors. However, what Villarruel didn’t know at the time was that he and his family would be in store for a two-year battle that pitted them against the city’s local government. It would cost the family thousands of dollars and their reputation in parts of the community. But Villarruel refused to give in and is now the proprietor of Life Leaf Dispensary in Ponca City. “We just spent so much money just trying to hang on, to get something open that, it’s almost devastated us financially just trying to get it open,” said Sergio’s wife, Candace Villarruel. “And we have four kids; we cannot be devastated financially. We’re 30-somethings with four kids. We have to make this work and we believe in it. That’s the thing, we believe it is so positive. It can be so positive and beneficial.” Sergio Villarruel first got the idea to open a dispensary more than 10 years ago. His father, who was a bail bondsman in Ponca City was diagnosed with cancer. The prevailing method at the time was to pump him full of prescription drugs just to deal with the side effects. “My father ended up getting cancer in 2010. And afterward, after they cut out the infected area of his large intestine, they put him through radiation and chemo,” Villarruel said. “Well, a lot of the treatment of radiation chemo ended up giving him peripherin. So he had neuropathy from knees all the way to the toe and that led all the way through his fingers. And so he was in constant pain. They had him on two 100 milligram Fentanyl patches, four 60 milligrams OxyContin, and then six 30 milligram OxyContin, all in a day.” Villarruel said the number of drugs his father was taking on a daily basis he described as enough to kill a bear. And he knew there was a better way. “So mainly, my reason why I started, I wanted to do this. It’s always been a dream of mine at first then, and secondly is to help people like my father,” Villarruel said. “My dad is a Vietnam vet. He worked at Conoco for 40 years and so, he got a very good reputation. And he worked his butt off for me and my two brothers, by himself; I never knew my mom or anything. He’s a very good person. Everybody loves him. And it’s just hard to see him go through this and not be able to do nothing. Well, now I can with the cannabis industry.” Eight years later, Oklahoma passed SQ 788 and Villarruel rushed to get his license. But that is when the trouble began. Before SQ 788 passed, the Ponca City Board of Commissioners voted to enact ordinances to establish zoning regulations for retail sales of medical marijuana. The ordinance did not allow for the cultivation and processing of cannabis inside city limits. Those businesses who planned to be involved in the retail sales of marijuana could only do so in areas that were zoned C2. The first building Villarruel attempted to set up shop was in a pharmacy that shared property lines with a church. It was also zoned C1. After a back and forth and sometimes contentious and confusing interactions with the zoning board, Villarruel was forced to give up on the property. This happened three more in which the Villarruels would find what they thought was the perfect spot and the zoning commission would find a reason to deny them clearance to use it. One of
those times came after the Villarruels had already started rehabbing the building and working on the foundation. During this entire time, they were not making any money. And with four children to take care of, it was putting the Villarruels in a tough spot. “We’re looking at least a $100,000, at least that we have spent,” Candance Villarruel said. “We were just sitting on our hands. Not only are we still hemorrhaging money, every step of the way, we’re not able to make money because both of us, we stopped working. This was what we were doing. We thought we were going to be open in August of 2018. We fully planned on that.” “So, I mean, I’d say we’re probably easy into the $100,000 range. And that’s not even considering nothing is coming in, just money going out.” It wasn’t until January of this year that the Villarruels found a place that seemed to work for all interested parties. “It was crazy. It’s been an ordeal, but again, at least we’re up and running now and we’re happy. And we have a beautiful, beautiful shop now, it’s historic. Very cool,” Candace Villarruel said. “It is in the historic Rock Island Train Depot, built in, I believe, 1910. It’s beautiful. It’s a very cool building. It’s been restored and we could not be happier. It has made it a perfect place for a dispensary. It’s been a good home for us.” The Villarruels didn’t get near the same type of push back from Ponca City officials as they had with previous attempts. They believe a big reason is due to the location. “This one is in what a lot of people would consider an undesirable area of town. It’s in our South part of town. I lived in the South part of town for years and I never had any problems,” Candace Villaruel said. “I like the south part of town, but apparently it is not as desirable. But we have no neighbors. It’s just a freestanding building. I think it just has to do with location. And it had been for sale... The people that we are currently in a lease situation with, they had a coffee shop and it didn’t get a lot of traffic. People weren’t willing to go off the beaten path for a cup of coffee, but for some medical cannabis, they’re more willing to come to us.” While their journey to this point has been a difficult one, the Villarruels like where they have landed. Yet, they have not forgotten what they have been through or the people who put them through it. “A lot of these small communities like Ponca Cities are shutting out what should be legal,” Sergio Villarruel said. “Like Ponca City cannot process or grow in city limits, which there is nothing in the law or the Oklahoma statutes that says that. I’d like to get it out that they’re doing this. I’m not trying to make any more trouble or of anything, because God knows, I’ve probably made enough trying to open up this business. I want to recognize the fact that Ponca City is doing what they want, not listening to the state laws.”
Bring on the cold by Josh Leone
We need more ice… During the holidays when I was in college to break free from the family madness, I was out the door before you could find your keys after hearing the faint words of “can someone go grab…? I adored my family, so someone must step up to the task. I was the “pothead” in my family so this meant a quick trip to the gas station and few pulls on my pipe could bring all the cheer I needed for the holiday. (Side note, if you ever need an errand ran at a family get together, find the cannabis users and they will gladly offer their services.) My siblings would give me hell when I got back because they never touched the stuff but they always had more questions than criticism. They still do. I never really cared who knew that I used cannabis so it’s possible that they confused that arrogance with confidence and it kept them curious. In a weird, and maybe not so weird way, cannabis brought us closer then and continues to even though they don’t medicate. Collectively, that’s what I’ve always loved about this plant, it’s ability to create a bridge. You can go anywhere in the world and its language is universal. If you use it… you just get it. If you don’t, deep down, there is probably a small part of you that wishes you did. Our bodies need it and in my humble opinion, our minds suffer greatly without it. Mt. Joy said in the song, Cardinal, “so we light one up, cause it’s in our blood.” Cannabis has always been what helped me calm the storm. And we’ve all weathered our fair share of those this year. As we stagger into a new 365 opportunities, whipped to death and grateful, we move on. Fingers crossed that we gained strength in a year that forced us to play cultural midwives to one another. Every one of us just as punch drunk as the next. Finally seeing the surface as we come up for air and holding out hope that we can greet all faces as friends after our year long swim in the dark. We need more ice…

Sowing the Seed By Chet Arcadia
In my monthly contribution to “Sowing the Seed”, the goal is to share information that moves from seed to the end result of consumption, unless you prefer popping seeds like aspirin and want to bypass all the fun! But seriously, I can guarantee you that I’ll be learning along with you all as we journey through the elements of cannabis growth and consumption. So, what better way to start than to assume the egg came before the chicken and start with the seed before the budding flower. If you asked 100 growers what the most important element is to a successful cultivation, you might get a myriad of answers but most that understand cultivation, start with good genetics. Of course soil, water, nutrients, light and other variables are key to successful cultivation but without strong genetic strains, the end result can’t be any greater than the strength of what the seed is genetically built to produce. Inferior genos (genotype or genetic code) are susceptible to things like pests, mold, as well as reduced color, potency, smell, terpenes, cannabinoids, and of course overall yield. With that, seeds can grow out of their expected manifestation and be more like what the father contributed which is why the phenotype is a subset of the genotype and just as important to keenly dedicated growers. So, what do cultivators look for in good genetics/ seeds? With the wide hybridization of cannabis there’s so much to choose from and why some growers stick to a few strains that suit their growing style while others prefer a mix for diversification. With so many, it’s important to do research and understand the seed’s lineage and whether it’s a first generation second, third, (F1, F2, F3) etc. Discovering breeders that are dedicated quality over quantity and breeding with an optimal stabilization of their genetics is an important first step of cultivating quality cannabis. With that said, just like a chef knows what to look for in quality produce, there are factors that assist in determining you have quality seeds. First, are the seeds darker in color, “waxy”, or have a tiger like stripe? Many cultivators see these as a good sign of healthy genetics and this can save months of heartache that may come from planting subpar seeds. Next, is the way they feel and whether they are firm or crack with little pressure. Obviously, the cracking seeds aren’t what you’d want to plant as they’re showing signs of fragility from the onset and you want sturdy genetics that will flourish into sturdy and adaptable stalks. Last, some use a float test to help delineate the robust strength of a sinking seed over the inferior buoyancy of a floating seed. The key is to become aware of what you’re planting in the ground, the same way you prepare to build a solid home. You need a sturdy foundation in order to frame, brick, and finish out a home. If you’re building with inferior materials or on unsteady ground, time will ultimately illustrate the flaws and your end result is a deteriorating home. And like the costly demolition of a crumbling home, your months and months of hard work will have to be plowed, wasted, so that you can start over again. So whether growing for yourself or for the commercial sale, do your due diligence to research and source the best seeds that fit your preference for cultivation and consumption and then prepare for the numerous care needed to grow exceptional cannabis.

Whether you believe in energy work or not, a deck of tarot cards can be a wonderful tool for personal growth and self-awareness. The cards tell the story of the fool’s journey, a series of lessons and obstacles and triumphs that the fool (or each one of us) experiences in a lifetime. According to Briget at Biddy Tarot, “Tarot is the storybook of our life, the mirror to our soul, and the key to our inner wisdom.” But if you do believe in energy and manifestation, you’re probably already aware of the fact that Tarot cards can be used to predict the direction that your energy is heading. With the new year coming up I thought, why not draw a forecast of the next 12 months? I set the intention for this seventeen-card spread to deliver a quick, helpful guide for the Herbage fam to utilize as we navigate the upcoming year. I drew the first twelve from the Smith-Waite Centennial deck, placing a card for each month. The last four cards were pulled from the Wild Unknown deck by Kim Krans, one for each “season” or quarter of the year. I decided to end the reading on a positive note with an affirmation to focus on for the year. This card came from deck, ‘The Universe Has Your Back’ by Gabby Bernstein

Are you carrying le the burdens of others or finding yourself worried about in things out of your control? Try to tune into clarity and S peace through this period. Nine of Swords aside, this m quarter is all about pentacles, which represent the mate- o rial world. Get outside and tune into nature this Spring. If not, it may be time to change directions. d f June predicts financial hardship and a feeling of isolation n or abandonment. If you feel that the world has turned u it’s back on you, this card invites you to ask yourself if r maybe you’re just being a little stubborn. It’s not always r easy to allow others to lighten the load for you, but you’ll d never get the help you need unless you ask for it and let it a in. Try making a gratitude list, you might find that you’re more resourceful in manifesting good fortune than you thought. f e July – September d e. Again, we find ourselves tapping into courage in quarter e three. This time, the Seven of Wands indicates that you may feel like you’re going against the grain or finding yourself in situations where you’re having to stand up for your beliefs. Nobody else will fight this battle for you, look for that support within yourself. t s The Emperor comes up in July urging us to create - boundaries and enforce them. In August we move into the Ten of Wands, indicating burn out after taking on too much at once. This would be a good time to tap into that Emperor card in order to invite more direction and organization into your life. You might be feeling overwhelmed, but at this point it’s important to follow through. What’s priority right now? How can you lighten your load?
tuning into the little things in life that bring you joy this month. Take a mini vacation, catch up with friends, pour into a new or old hobby.
October – December The Daughter of Swords leads us into the last quarter of 2021, reminding us to pay attention to detail. This is a good time to focus on honesty, with yourself and with others. You may find yourself observing the way other people carry out their lives. It’s okay to learn from those around us, but make sure you’re paying attention to the lessons that come up in your own story too. Try not to be too nitpicky with others. The Nine of Swords appears once again in October, indicating another short period of angst and distress. Try to take some time during this month to let go of attachments that aren’t in your best interest. Donate old items to Goodwill and smudge your house this month to clear up any stagnant energy. Whatever needs to be in your life will remain, but it’s time to let go of anything that’s no longer serving you. Moving into November we find ourselves dealing with personal development. The Chariot implies that some aspect of our personality will shift into something new, and this evolution will propel a deep sense of confidence and strong will. You’ll most likely see big achievements as a result of this change. Work on affirmations during this time.
Finally, December brings wisdom bred from sorrow. The Queen of Swords is wise but rigid. She has learned from the painful challenges faced in the past. You may be feeling a refreshing sense of clarity by the end of the year, but you’re frowning at the world around you. It’s okay to grow weary of painful situations, but don’t let them make you bitter. Try to shift your focus to the positive aspects September invites us to catch a break after all of that of your journey. hard work and discipline. The Nine of Cups suggests that you may find yourself enjoying simple pleasures and
Solvent-less medicine Straight from the 918 by Anna Ervin
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Jeremy Babbitt of 918OG and I don’t think I have ever had the privilege of meeting someone so passionate about what they do. Whether he’s studying the composition and behaviors of different trichomes or designing the perfect water chilling system to process bubble hash, he just won’t quit until he’s 100% satisfied with his process. And when that happens, he’ll turn around and do it again, somehow finding a way to make it even better still. Located in Bristow and Tulsa, Jeremy’s operation is small, but his competition makes up some of the biggest names in the Oklahoma cannabis industry. Partnering with the Triminator and Nature’s Kiss, he has entered and won multiple contests with his solvent-less product, including both the High Times Cannabis Cup and the Cowboy Cup. These opportunities have given him a platform to educate and inform people about the benefits of solvent-less, and why they should care about the way their medicine is being made. Anna: How did you get into making concentrates? I started off growing. And it’s the wild, wild west back in 2018. My first harvest was hermaphrodite… So, I thought, I can clean it all up and make pre-rolls out of it. The day I was making pre-rolls, OMMA changed the rules and said, “only processors can make pre-rolls.”
vest, and then you wash it off and sell all the lettuce. I’m just washing off all the trichomes, you know. Growing is such a learning curve, and you’re always fighting battles and you’re always learning new things in that. And I looked at the processing side of making solvent-less and I thought, I can climb that a lot quicker. I got lucky and had a couple of really good hash makers up in Cali take me under their wing... And I just did it every day. I was constantly hitting up growers like, “give me your trim… let me just run it and see what we can do.” I ended up working with a couple of growers, really honing in on my skills and being able to identify good product by just looking at it, and knowing what kind of strains and lineages would do well. Anna: It sounds like you love what you do, and that’s what’s important. Exactly. I do love what I’m doing, I don’t mind getting up and going to work anymore. Heck, most of the time I’m working 20 hours a day. I’m trying to build a greenhouse right now so I can get my own outdoor grow going. I love sun grown terpines, I just feel like you get something better, not better but different.
What I’m trying to learn in growing is how to make that trichome better. I don’t want it too waxy where it builds up, I don’t want it to light where it just breaks off or breaks open. So, I’m really trying to learn that. I’ve been studying a lot of things from Frenchy Cannoli and different people out there that I feel like are on the same page. I feel like my set up is very similar to what they’re doing. So, I just applied and got my processing license. There was I’m also an engineer, so I love to build things. I built a a pretty big demand for [pre-rolls], but I wasn’t planning whole water chilling system, so I don’t have to use ice when on doing that with my next harvest. I thought, “well what I wash my stuff. I can take my water down to 32 degrees can I do with this processing license?” and pipe it all over, and I’ve learned a lot doing that. Anna: What drives your passion to create such a high qualNow, in the past we would use BHO and I just never liked ity of product for patients? it. I didn’t care for the aftertaste and the high was just different. So, we would take nuggs, squish them and just make I’m smoking it too. I want the best, and I can taste it. It’s flower rosin. I thought, I’m going to go ahead and get into the solvent-less side of the world. So, I just dove in, I got like in a coffee, you can taste the little minute differences. a washer, and my first original press and I really loved it. I I want to be able to pick that out in a good hash. Weed should taste good. With rosin, you kind of have an overall thought, okay, I like the way this tastes. taste to it, but the strain makes it a little different with all I mean, I’m surprised you even have to have a processing those terpenes. And just finding those terpenes that help license to do this. It’s like taking your lettuce that you har- people, because everyone’s a little different.
I Had A Guy Tell Me… “You Changed My Life. I Tried Your Purple Punch Around Two Years Ago… I’ve Had Respiratory Problems So I Can’t Smoke Flower. This, I Can Do. It Gets Rid Of All The Carcinogens And Everything Like That. You’ve Changed My Life; I Don’t Smoke Anything Else Now.” And it just kind of hit me. I want to make the best product and I want to have something out there on the shelves that’s the best for you, on every level it’s the best. You know, a lot of times when you’re running every day and you’re trying to get your plants in and trying to do everything you forget that, and you don’t see it all the time. But when you do see it, it’s beautiful. Anna: So what do you think sets your products apart from other solvent-less on the market? I really feel like some companies just put out anything, and a lot of time it hasn’t been stabilized. So you get it home, and it sits in your drawer for a day or two, and it tastes swampy. I really feel like taking the time to set my product. I’ve got a lot of things setting, and a lot of these are experiments. I’m doing this strain for the first time, testing it 3 different ways and trying to see what’s the best way to stabilize it. I want to make [a product] that’s stable so you can keep it in your stash box, and when you open it up the next time it’s still good. You’re always going to have degradation, but I’m always trying to tweak and modify my jar tech to make a product that is longer lasting for the customer and tastes good. Anna: What is the greatest challenge you’ve faced so far? You know, like I said it’s been like the wild, wild west with the OMMA and the OBNDD. The hardest part is that you don’t know, am I doing the right thing? Are they going to come and shut me down? You almost just have to use blind faith and just keep moving. I originally started off doing this with my dad and he loves to grow. But he just couldn’t take it, he was so worried they were going to come shut us down or throw us in jail. You know, his whole life he was raised “marijuana is bad, you’re going to jail.” So that was a hindrance, I wish that
hadn’t been there and I could still be doing this with him. And then just, finding good product. You know, hooking up with Nature’s Kiss was my best move so far. They consistently give me good product and it gives me the ability to learn so much faster. Because if I can get the same strain and I can play with it over and over, then I know, ok here’s what’s going on. Anna: Where do you see the solvent-less market heading in the next few years? The way I make solvent-less today will not be the same two years from now. Things are changing, we’re looking at sonic waves right now to be able to take those heads off. There’s been no money invested into this industry yet, but it’s coming. A lot of company’s are now like, oh, we need to invest money in research.. They’ve got to put the money into the research and development to actually build something, because now they can make a profit selling it. Right now everything we do is all hokey. I’m taking a washing machine from Japan and I’m modifying it up and doing all this stuff. So it’s not as clean as I want. It’s not as precise as I want. There’s so much waste, so much waste in this industry. Just from a standpoint of doing that, by the time I get it from flower to frozen and washed all the way through, there’s just a lot of waste. Anna: Where do you see yourself taking this company in the next few years? That’s a good question… What’s my exit strategy? *laughs I think it’s all going to depend on if they can declassify this as a Class I drug. Then we can actually have bank accounts. You know, we can right now but I don’t want to do it because they want .10 of every dollar I make. So it’s just not feasible. If we could get some of that stuff through congress and get some laws changed, it won’t be a competition of just, who in Oklahoma makes the best hash. It will be a competition of, does Oklahoma make better hash than Michigan… So I’m hoping within 5 years we’re there. When I look at myself and say “what do I really want?” Well, I’ve got my own land already and I’ve got my own grow. I would have my own lab out there, and I would just be a self-sustained, small boutique-batch of high-quality hash. Everything I grow would go straight into being washed. And I would have my own, basically all under one roof, single-sourced type of product that I could put out there.

Building strength by Cassie Alexander
This has been a year of unwelcome change for many people. But, what if it wasn’t such a horrible year? What if 2020 was the year you learned that you can follow the rules even when they don’t make sense to you? What if it was the year that you learned that sometimes it’s ok to break the rules for the sake of your mental health? What if 2020 was the year you learned how resilient you are? We walk through life narrating our own story and, often, it’s the negative storylines that get stuck in our head. When that happens, we can only see the world through that narrative. We can look at the events that have unfolded this year as a horrible experience, or we can look at them with a fresher, wiser, perspective. What did you learn about yourself? Did you learn that it’s ok to say no to some of your traditional social gatherings? Did you learn that your family enjoys not being involved in activities that keep you away from the house 5 nights a week? Did you learn that you can be alone? There are so many good things that came from this difficult year. Don’t let 2020 be the worst year of your life, let it be the year of strength and perspective. Take a step outside of your narrative and recognize the strength you have that got you through it. “Hard times create strong men” -G. Michael Hopf

When I made this chili recipe for a family occasion a few years ago, my father-in-law went back for seconds. He said, “I don’t know who brought this chili but it’s the best that I’ve ever had.” Hearing this from the man who never lets me forget what a kook I am for choosing a vegan lifestyle was completely unexpected. I told him I had brought the chili and at that point I think he was even more surprised than I had been. He said, “you’re telling me there’s no meat in here?” That’s right, ‘pops. This recipe is loaded with plant-based proteins to replace the beef, including tempeh, quinoa and black beans. I infused this one with a little THC olive oil, and 100mg of Two Twisted Girl’s baking sugar. You could also opt to use an MCT infusion, cannabutter, or tincture in place of the oil and sugar.
Infused black bean chili
Prep/cook time: 20 minutes | 15 minutes Infusion: 250mg thc | 30mg per serving Servings: about 8 Ingredients • 2 Tbsp infused olive oil • Package tempeh • 3 Bell peppers (red, green, yellow, take your pick) • 2-3 Jalapeno peppers • 1 Yellow onion • 2-3 Cloves garlic • 32 Oz canned diced tomatoes (drained) • 4 C cooked black beans (or 4 cans drained) • ½ C quinoa (dry) • ½ C frozen or canned corn • 32-40 Oz vegetable broth • ½ Tsp chili powder • ½ Tsp cumin • ¼ Tsp oregano • 2 Tsp two twisted girls infused baking sugar (100mg) • Pinch salt and pepper
22
Preparation
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Chop tempeh into bite sized pieces and sauté for 3-4 minutes until starting to brown. Season and add onion, bell peppers, and jalapeno, sauté 4-5 more minutes until fragrant. Add garlic and heat for another 1-2 minutes* Stir in remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Make sure you add enough veggie broth to cover ingredients, but not enough to make it soupy. The quinoa will absorb some of that liquid. Cover with lid and simmer on low-medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes or until quinoa is fully cooked. Store in fridge for up to 3 days. *I like to season several times throughout the cooking process, feel free to add seasonings as needed.

DIP DEVICES-EVRI DEVICE by Anna Ervin When the boss man invited me to write a product review over the EVRI device, I was thrilled. I’m not going to pretend that I’m the most experienced concentrate user in the industry, but your girl does love dabs. Why? Because they’re convenient, depending on the quality of product they can taste a lot better, and if I catch them at just the right temp, dabs don’t destroy my lungs . When concentrates first showed up in my life, I had no idea what to expect. Fortunately, I had friends and family to (literally) light the way for me. Looking back on that, I can see why a lot of people still shy away from extracts. I was lucky to have influences in my life who made a blow torch seem less intimidating, and who educated me on the proper way to consume. But what if you don’t have that support and you’re ready to dive into the world of concentrates but have no clue where to even begin? Enter Dip Devices, a company designed to make dabbing a little less intimidating, while also offering greater versatility and convenience of use. I dug a little deeper into what makes Dip Devices, as a company, tick and I’ve learned that this Denver-based operation is the brainchild of Matt Watson and Mike Bologna. Matt set out in 2014 to create a device that would take the stress out of dabbing, and by 2017 had teamed up with Mike to release their first device, the Dipper Vaporizer, a 2-in-1 dab pen and dab straw. Before long they realized the need for a product that offered a little more versatility, and with that the EVRI device was born. The starter kit includes a battery, the Vapor Tip attachment, and the 510/Pod attachment. They also offer a compatible Quartz Crystal Nail attachment that can be purchased separately. Small, Discreet, Travel-Friendly
We now have everything so conveniently at our fingertips. However, the attachment you will most likely see me leaving the house with is the quartz crystal nail. I can load it up before I head out for the day and I’m typically set until I get home. Beginner Friendly with 3 Temperature Settings The EVRI battery works best with a slow draw, which isn’t for everyone. In my opinion, the slower the draw, the more flavor preservation. I feel like each attachment is designed for consumers of various experience levels to explore and find what works for them. I typically prefer low temp dabs, and I think that they can be great for people just getting into dabbing as well, so I really appreciate the three different temperature settings on the battery. I worry that the lowest temperature setting may be too low for the dip attachment and end up clogging up the coil. Instead I’ve been using the medium and high settings with that and they seem to do a lot better. At no point have I felt like the highest setting was too hot. I was reluctant to even try the highest setting, but pleasantly surprised to find that it overall delivered the same smooth, flavorful experience. Affordability and Activism The EVRI Device is surprisingly affordable, considering all that it offers. The batteries are long-lasting, and replacement attachments run $10-15. But I think that my favorite thing about this company is that they give back to the community in so many ways. When I spoke with company founder Matt Watson and CEO Mike Balogna, they each stressed that activism was the core of their company. Dip Devices donates 1% of all EVRI sales to drug policy reform, and depending on the color of device purchased, an additional 1% are donated to organizations representing important social issues. dipdevices.com
The first thing that surprised me about the EVRI device was its compact, subtle appearance. I took this battery to the Cowboy Cup this year and it’s perfect for traveling. The protective cover for the dip attachment minimizes the mess that carrying a nectar collector can leave behind, and the battery powered coil means I can finally leave the blow torch at home (where it’s probably a lot safer… for everyone). The variety of different attachments I have to choose from makes me feel like this is the future of cannabis consumption.
