Where Is The Filling By James Bridges

I noticed a hole inside of me and I needed to fill it. The near sereal connection of my past and present resistance is overwhelming at times. I headed to an old abandoned feed mill. I wanted to take some photos and reminisce. I stopped at a department store. Immediately, I checked my appearance. I looked around. The people in the store seemed to all glance over. I tripped just enough as I walked forward to look around for an audience. I had one… Out of place, I nodded to an older gentleman as we passed and I noticed a concerned look given in return. I started to sweat. I started feeling lonely. I had no close connection to the people in the store. I started to wonder if I would ever simply feel comfort. I could see the isle I was searching for now. I turned the corner and there was a person standing on the opposite end. He looked familiar. In some ways he looked off putting. There was a scar on his chest which was exposed for the world to see. He started to speak. He asked me why I did what I did. I was puzzled. He wanted to know why I left him. He asked me why I always want to play with others and never with him. He reminded me that he was my friend. I remembered. He reminded me of when we were both children and I cared about him. I knew he was going to do something with his life. I also knew I would probably never get to see it. I accepted the fact that he was gone a long time ago. A sudden and close to damaging slap went across my face as he screamed for me to wake up. He reminded me that he was the most pleasant person to ever be with. I should accept him back into my life. He wanted me to stop looking in the mirror out of vanity. He told me the demons don’t matter anymore. He wanted me to stop desiring to be out of myself. Then he invited me back in. I looked at his eyes and I knew it was me. I gave him a hug and a promise. “I will never leave you again.”

Mighty, Mighty Myrcene By Charles “Uncle Chuck” Duncan Your brain sends messages to your body through a series of electrical and chemical signals. The electrical part of the messages stops at nerve endings at which time chemicals are released that continue the message across a physical gap to specific receptors on the receiving cell. This process is called a neurotransmission and the chemicals are called neurotransmitters. You are already probably familiar with some neurotransmitters. For example, Epinephrine, more commonly known as adrenaline, is a hormone secreted by the medulla of the adrenal glands. Strong emotions such as fear or anger cause epinephrine to be released into the bloodstream, which causes an increase in heart rate, muscle strength, blood pressure, and sugar metabolism. Endorphins are chemicals produced by the body to relieve stress and pain. They work similarly to a class of drugs called opioids. Opioids relieve pain and can produce a feeling of euphoria. They are sometimes prescribed for short-term use after surgery or for pain-relief. Serotonin is the key hormone that stabilizes our mood, feelings of well-being, and happiness. This hormone impacts your entire body. It enables brain cells and other nervous system cells to communicate with each other. Serotonin also helps with sleeping, eating, and digestion. There are others, but those are the ones I find most people seem to recognize. By name anyway. They may not know how they work or what they do. But the terms adrenaline, endorphins and serotonin were familiar with them somehow. Well, cannabinoids are neurotransmitters as well. And where do you find cannabinoids? In cannabis! We call those phytocannabinoids. There are also certain cannabinoids that our body makes on its own. We call those Endocannabinoids. Since it’s the job of the neurotransmitter to stimulate certain receptors, they become a very important part of the message sent from the brain and how it’s received by the intended organ or other body part or function. Cannabinoids are often categorized by their benefits and effects just like the previously mentioned neurotransmitters, adrenaline, endorphins and serotonin. In cannabis, these “categories” play a huge role in their strain identification. Add in terpenes, the oils that give cannabis its taste and smell, and a few other factors and you will have the plant’s strain name. Don’t get me started on strain names however. Uncle Chuck is a fan of selecting his cannabis based on grower, phenotype and genotype instead of any given strain name. But that’s another time and another article. I am such a fan of the concept of following the grower more than the strain name, I started a web tool to do just that. Growers can join using only an email address and customers can follow them for alerts when their favorite grow sells to a local dispensary.

Triggers

By James Bridges The passengers laughing as the bus took off startled me. I wiped my eyes. We were in El Paso, TX. Some call it the armpit of the U.S. I called it a $100 bus ride to freedom. I quickly realized that I was one of the “bus” people. The children barely spoke English, and loved to mess with the white boy who couldn’t keep his eyes open. I noticed a glance. She was young. So was I. But she was very young and with a child. I knew she was alone by the packing of her things. One child, one mother, and one small paper bag with “la ropa” written on the side. Her eyes said that she only had a few things, but those things were sacred to her. That was special.

Mon - Fri 10:00 - 7:00 - Sat Noon - 5:00

Someone oddly nudged me to point out an empty seat. I had been sitting in this same seat for hundreds of miles. Now I am to move on… I tilted my head up. The passenger introduced me. His name was Abandon. As I sat in the new seat I was greeted with a smile. I attempted to spit out a self introduction with no recollection of my own name. I felt ashamed. He smiled and bestowed a name to me. He laughed at my inquiries as I felt like a child. I wanted to know everything. Including my own name. A wave from the front caught my eye. There was a smile. The magnetic appeal drove me as I balanced myself. He told me of misfortunes that were faced and forgotten. He found love three times and never had regret. He told me that this bus was safe and I shouldn’t worry. For those that came before were simply on another journey. Feeling at ease I wanted to believe. Then I looked over at the driver. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was me. It was me as a child. The driver glanced over with a puzzled smile.

Determined to stop the madness I grabbed the lapels of a child-like me and shoved him aside. I quickly grabbed the wheel. The child giggled as if to applaud the act as he stepped aside. Fulfillment awaits.

T he ART Of Producing Dreams Cover Artist

Chad Mathews by Michael Kinney Chad Mathews can’t get it out of his blood. Ever since he was a young boy growing up in Bethel (Ok.) being some kind of artist has been his No. 1 dream. Whether it was writing, painting or playing his guitar, Mathew’s creative side has always been the part he identified with the most. But he had no game plan on how to make those dreams come to fruition. “I wanted to be an artist, I think, was the first thing, a musician,” Mathews said. “But I never really, I guess, pursued that seriously until I got a little bit older. Then, I just kind of landed in marketing. I think it was the least amount of math I had to do to graduate. So, I went with a public relations/marketing kind of track.” Now, at the age of 49, and the marketing director for the Grand Casino Hotel and Resort, Mathews is tasked with finding new acts in Oklahoma and providing them an opportunity to showcase their talents. Mathews produces a show called ‘Play it Loud’ for the Grand Casino. With it, he and his production partners feature up-and-coming Oklahoma musicians. While he was unable to avoid arithmetic, Mathews did find an outlet for his artistic side with Play it Loud (playitloudshow.com). “That’s been pretty successful,” Mathews said. “I fulfill some of that artistic side where I get to be involved in that and produce. So I’m highly involved in the entire production.” With Play it Loud in its fifth season, Mathews has found a vehicle that allows him to give back not just to the younger generation of musicians, but also to his home state, which he feels gets overlooked in the world of music. “I think there’s so much talent around. I always say talent is kind of ubiquitous,”

Mathews said. “It’s always who gets seen kind of a deal. You know, there’s so much around, and so much noise around, and so much to see these days, it’s hard to get a spotlight. So I felt like we had the platform to do it and have been able to do that for quite a while. So there are four episodes a season or whatever the math is on that again. We are trying to get people out there, showcase their talent, and give them a platform. They are given an opportunity to do something that they may not otherwise have an opportunity to do. The casino also uses it as a part of their branding. So we’re actually putting out paid marketing for every episode and kind of partnering that way. We’ve done pretty well with it.”

about other musicians and artists, when it comes to showing off his own work, lack of confidence has hindered him.

Doing well is an understatement. Mathews’ work on his web series, “Play it Loud” earned him a third regional Heartland Emmy.

Mathews said he hasn’t given up on that part of his life. He enjoys creating and being artistic. He recently completed a screenplay which has been recognized in the screenwriting competition called the Nicholl Fellowship. His submission made it to the top 50 out of 8,200 total scripts.

“It was for one of the episodes in the Interview Program category,” Mathews said. “The Play It Loud program that we do is kind of a combination between Anthony Bordain meets Austin City Limits. It’s an interview style with the local musicians, telling their story and showing their talent. It ties back to the casino when we bring them back in to do a live taping on our event center stage here at the casino.” Yet, Mathews said his greatest rewards come from the artist. He knows how hard they work and the sacrifices they make for their craft. So when they express gratitude for everything that Mathews and his partners do for them, it means something special. “Since we have the support of a marketing department through the casino, we were able to offer a larger platform and push the message a little further,” Mathews said. “The artists get billboards, they get print advertising, they get television commercials for their episode in local Oklahoma markets. Their faces are on billboards as people are driving through Oklahoma City, and that seems to be the biggest one. I get messages from people all the time like, “Oh my gosh, I saw my face on a billboard. That’s crazy!” We elevated that and it has proven to have helped the casinos brand.” Mathews will admit he sometimes wonders what that spotlight would feel like on him. He continues to find roadblocks in his path. However, this time around Mathews is the one putting the obstacles in his own path. While he can stand in front of thousands of people talking

“I’m not going to lie and say that it’s not nice to be seen. I’m not generally one to go out and scream from the rooftops. So I guess that part of it’s a little uneasy for me,” Mathews said. “I like the recognition, I guess it does make me a little uncomfortable. So maybe it is kind of a way for me to vicariously experience that by helping other people stand on the stage. I’m not afraid of getting on a stage and talking in front of people and interacting with a crowd or an audience. But I don’t know about the whole being the front man.”

Mathews plays his guitar, paints, draws, dabbles in photography and several other artistic endeavors. He is waiting for a sign, so to speak, to let him know which way he should take his talents. “I’ve got an asset because I create things. Like my script that I have, I’m considering pushing that out more to see what opportunities it might lead to. It’s a pretty solid piece of work,” Mathews said. “If somebody were to come to me and say, “Hey, we like what you wrote. Would you write something else?” Then maybe that’s something I would consider. I just fall into the work that I’ve done, and continue to put the work out there in whatever capacity I can. Just see where it leads. I enjoy doing all of it. I’ve never focused really heavily on monetizing it.” Like many people across the globe, COVID-19 forced Mathews to sit back and reevaluate his life, his career and what he wants out of it. Mathews said he is at a crossroads. He believes if he is going to make something happen, he needs to do it soon. “So I think I’m kind of in a transition period of, which talent do I follow to make a living, and which talent do I follow to feed my soul?” Mathews asked himself. But until that happens, Mathews continues to craft solutions for the dreams of others to come true.

Q & Awith Kalli Keith Founder of

Pro Gro Farms by Veronica Castillo Founder and Led Cultivator Kalli Keith, says she fell in love with gardening in her twenties after a breakup, and growing plants healed her. But before that, she has the experience of being raised in farming and ranching: “I spent time at the stockyards, at barrel races, even strapped to a pony on cattle drives before we evolved to using ATVs.” Recently, I had the opportunity to connect with and interview Pro Gro Farms owner, Kalli Keith. Hear from her below. V: Tell me about the woman owned and operated team at Pro Gro- was growing a passion and/or career goal? “After the breakup, I started gardening and dreamed that I would give produce to all my neighbors in my small apartment complex. Gardening healed me more than it fed my neighbors, and I found myself obsessed with the whys and hows of plant life (and bug life), and I continued to adopt ‘em and read about each one of them. I eventually had serious square footage staked in this parking lot due to my expanding collection, and decided it needed a border to keep cars in check. I acquired bricks from a building demolition in my neighborhood and borrowed my neighbors skateboard to roll them all to my garden in these toe-smashing stacks. Then neighbors started leaving me flower pots, naturally I had to fill them with more plants, and I think I am still in that cycle somehow today.”

I made it to NYC after all, then Los Angeles, and finally Dallas for a more comfortable last few years.” V: Please tell me about the journey to build and launch the Pro Gro cultivation facility? “I think it was 2017 when I started working toward being a part of the emerging hemp industry in Oklahoma. I worked to be included in the pilot program and cheered along the 2018 farm bill finally legalizing production. My trajectory had shifted somewhere in the meantime before seeing that through. I feared a lack of infrastructure for hemp when it came to harvesting through going to market and another lovely little thing had happened in the meantime which was the movement and

My main obsession with cannabis comes from variety and what range internal and external factors can allow it to span. My quick answer would be something like a chem or diesel cross to consume and to grow would be simply anything beautiful!” V: How many plants do you all grow at once? “I flower 80 at a time.”

Our highest demand has been for the Blueberry Mandarin Cookies #14. It’s a happy all day strain with an easy THC level and a woodsy, bready terp profile. If you catch me out and about, it’s the strain I almost always have on me. I think a close contender is the MP3 pheno of Mandarin Punch, but she just hasn’t been around my garden as long to challenge the BMC popularity.”

V: Any mentors in the industry? “Not really, no. If I did have a mentor, I am the type to ask then secretly not trust their answer anyways and go try my idea instead. I only learn the hard way and it’s a curse.” V: Any partnerships or collaborations coming? Pro Gro is collaborating with Bear Essentials on a rosin release. I feel like it’s a milestone for Pro Gro to not only branch into rosin, but to be noticed by respected hash artists. I can claim I’m a “weed snob” all day, but these solventless people are drop dead serious about what flowers they will and won’t work with.” V: What has been the hardest lesson learned so far?

With the help of my dad, other family, and friends, we were able to get about 1000 square feet built out.” V: Do you all have a passion for cultivating indoors? “I have a passion for the sun and the soil, actually. I have a passion for regenerative agriculture, and plans including and expanding from Pro Gro. I grow indoors, because frankly I am a perfectionist and a weed snob since back before I ever became interested in farming or growing cannabis. I want to be able to experiment with various cultivars in a controlled setting. In my garden, I have the ability to formally trial side-by-side, more control for research, and development, and the advantage of getting to monitor everything that comes in contact with the end product from a sanitation perspective. I know indoor cultivation is not as sustainable as other methods and that does weigh on me, but I do my best to compensate by constantly making small changes: reusable products, water filtration modifications, electricity pull at off-hours, etc.” V: What’s your favorite strain to grow and consume? “I certainly don’t have a favorite for either.

“You can’t do everything by yourself. I am deeply independent and thought if I would just build a micro grow small enough that I could manage it entirely myself, then I could just listen to my audiobooks all day and grind out some stanky danky flowers. I thought I’d snap some pics and send some emails and could stay hidden in the garden, and people would learn it was great and be waiting to buy it. WRONG! It takes help from reliable teammates to guarantee product consistency, it takes cherry picking the hand trimmers that manicure bud to perfection, it takes relationships with your clients that develop into friendships, it takes giving up control and learning to delegate tasks to others to better your business overall, humility to consult with other growers and giving free advice to the next guy in return for the good deeds done to you, it takes patients demanding your flower at their favorite shop over and over again, and friends and family understanding why you fell off the map a couple years ago and miss important events.” V: Where can customers find you and what Pro Gro Farms grown strain is highest in demand? “Safe bets for a good selection would be: Likewise Craft OKC, Likewise Broadway in Edmond, Top Notch Medz in Shawnee, and/or Pharm788 in Roland. Feel free to DM or email me and ask, because there are single strains or rotating stores that might be closer to where you live.

What are 3 tips you have for aspiring women cultivators? “My advice would be to stop acting like men are against you because you’re a woman in a male dominated industry. I am often asked, “what’s it like?” to which I say ‘pretty much like every other industry’. I have actually felt more judged or disliked by other women than men in this industry, and we have a tendency to kind of lift other women up as long and we’re still standing on her dress hem. Men are excited to meet a woman running a garden, because it’s refreshing to not have the same bros or hired hot girls coming in to sell weed all day. Sure, we experience weird advances and mansplaining, but these types of bizarre exchanges happen outside of cannabis too, because weird people are weird people no matter who dominates your line of work. Don’t hide the fact you’re a female stepping onto the scene. I spent a long time not stating that I was woman-owned and operated, because I didn’t want people to care. I had a false idea that purchasing managers would think I was some growers girlfriend he sent in. I wanted my product to speak for itself no matter who grew it. My guy friends actually encouraged me to add more personality to my brand and let people know who is behind it and I am so glad that I did. I have had a mom-and-daughter store reach out to me wanting to buy from other women or others. I get messages like ‘Love to see it, I’m a girl and I grow too’, from as far away as South Africa! Being woman owned isn’t going to compensate for bad weed, (at least it shouldn’t) so it doesn’t hurt to put it out there and let people know who you are and what you’re proud of accomplishing when it’s against a statistic.”

Once Labeled “Catatonic” Oklahoma Boy’s Cannabis as Medicine Results Take Him TO INFINITY AND BEJessi Lane is a Patient AdYOND! vocate, Writer, and Oklaby Jessi Lane Patient Advocate

homa cannabis industry Consultant. Jessi Lane is a Certified Cannacian III and Trichome Institute Certified Cannabis Consultant. With a “full spectrum” Postpartum Wellness background.

Amber didn’t know anything about cannabis as medicine when she first sought plant based medicine treatment for her son, Austyn, who Amber lovingly refers to as her “forever baby.” Traditional seizure medications were a frightening prospect. “My sister had passed away from liver failure actually, while I was pregnant, and I couldn’t justify putting him on a medication that had the potential to cause the same thing.” Amber began reading about medical marijuana refugees, “I told my husband that if families were leaving their entire lives to get their kids help, then it must be working! It had to be life changing!” But where to begin can be an overwhelming feat. Amber utilized the services of Tulsa’s Higher Care Clinic, who assisted her through the process, offering both required pediatric recommendations and state submission. “They were so great!” relayed Amber. Upon receipt of Austyn’s OMMA license June 2019, Amber started Austyn on a full spectrum tincture. Choosing to begin Austyn’s oral administration at bedtime she followed the first rule of titration- start low and slow, and noted some improvement in his sleep. Austyn lives with a painful condition called Eosinophilic Esophagitis that, upon flare,

is sleep inhibiting. EoE is a chronic immune system disease in which a type of white blood cell (eosinophil) builds up in the lining of the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach (esophagus) 1. “EOE is terrifying. Anytime he doesn’t feel great, it is the first thing we have to check.” Due to Austyn’s vast allergy list of potential flare triggers, Austyn thrives on Neocate formula and likely will always have to. Since becoming an OMMA licensed patient, Amber does report improvements in Austyn’s sleep, however “he still stays awake a lot.” The huge difference, she finds, is that he is noticeably able to relax during awake hours- something he was unable to achieve prior to licensing. This was affecting the entire family. “He used to stim and yell all night and nobody in our house was getting sleep. Now he will lay in bed with me while I sleep and is able to quietly watch a movie and cuddle up until he falls asleep.” Austyn’s stimming may be due to the complex nature of his neurological profile. Due to Polyhydramnious, an excessive volume of amniotic fluid known to be associated with an increased risk of various adverse pregnancy outcomes including fetal anomalies2, Amber was hospitalized in her third trimester. Born blue and unresponsive, Amber learned her baby may show signs of brain damage due to lack of oxygen at birth. Seemingly thriving his first year, Austyn learned some speech and ate regularly. However despite this progress, Amber eventually began to notice a change in Austyn’s behavior and soon those successes had come to an abrupt halt. “He was just staring into space,” Amber sorrowfully recounted. Labeled “catatonic” by a neuropsychologist,

Austyn received his Autism diagnosis and at 2 years EEG results determined Austyn was also experiencing Absence Seizures every five to ten minutes. “He could be having a thousand seizures a day and we had no idea.” The Bains family is a blended family of eight children and three grandchildren that have adapted their entire lives to support Austyn’s needs. “I would say my kids are incredibly caring, open minded, kind, and understanding as a result of having a brother like him.” Thanks to cannabis as medicine Austyn is able to bounce into outer space on the trampoline with his siblings and loves to jump on the bed and watch his favorite movie- Toy Story. Amber may be unconventional in her goals for Austyn and her family. “My goals are just to be happy with the life we have and stay kind.” She goes on to say, “It’s not a popular answer, but I am okay if Austyn never says his ABC’s, I just want him to always feel loved and valued and be able to show us love back.” Amber’s consumption method of choice for Austyn is tincture and when exhibiting the symptoms of a flare or higher than average levels of pain she adjusts his dosage accordingly and incorporates pain creams and patches. In doing so she is layering his consumption methods, supporting the full spectrum profile provided by his tincture. This regiment has catapulted Austyn’s quality of life. “We couldn’t touch him before and now he is the biggest cuddler. He is active. He runs and plays, he laughs and dances. He makes sounds now. Cannabis has changed his entire life, and as a result also changed our family’s.”

Life Of Katz

by Kathy Long-Barker Good morrow, fair friends and fiends! I’m going to share the next piece in my series ‘Courtiers Of The Matrix Reign’; It’s called “The Queen.”

She was a real fun one, because if i’m being honest, I didn’t know the truths she was telling until I was nearly done with her counterpart “The King.” I was standing back, looking at each piece I’d done, just revisiting the detail, when BOOM. Suddenly I realized the energy in the minutia of my paintings mirrored the lessons and truths that were being revealed to me in the history of our matrix. Disclaimer, the descriptions below are how I interpret my own channeled art. Take or leave anything. If it resonates, wonderful. If not, then shrug it off mate! Here we have the depiction of a Monarch Sphynx sporting five arms. In spirituality the number five indicates a great change. What is the biggest harbinger of change? Suffering. Chaos. Discomfort. Things that force us to move. Some of the cruelest narratives imaginable just might be playing out right under our noses. Alas it’s easier to cry “conspiracy” than it is to actually look and hold space for every day monstrosities. Why? Because it scares us. Fear is uncomfortable. If we can’t fix it on our own, deny deny deny!! In both the queen’s surroundings and hands she collects different aspects of suffering. One of her left arms holds a crimson jar of jam which to me spoke of the theory of adrenochrome. Tucked just beneath her elbow resides the naive little oysters who were later eaten. The left side of the body is associated with divine feminine and psychic energy. Whereas on her right side, she holds a three eyed dormouse. What happens in Alice in Wonderland when you rub the jam on the mouse’s nose? I’ll let you ponder that. In her other hands she is seen fixing her tea. What portrayal will she pour today? She is the queen after all. Loyal subjects are subject to believe anything. Behind and to the viewers left we see a feral Ariel imprisoned in an exploitive glass cage. To the viewer’s right a more demonic looking Geine in his usual lamp. Didn’t our boy Al set him free? Whoops. Back to the left, we have a warped ship ensnared in a glass bottle. According to a little sparrow I know, a ship is considered to be freedom itself and bodes not with such confinement. Sounds a little like life right now doesn’t it? Adding insult to injury, on the queen’s cheshire crown, we have a teapot with a pink elephant emblem. Alkuhl, or better known today as alcohol. The ultimate mass suppressant, depressant, and vibrational disarmer. Furthermore, just when we feel we can’t take anymore, overhead looms the little crocodile who pours the water of the Nile on every golden scale. The music industry has teeth is what i’m getting at. Nevertheless, darkness is a consciousness, and with it we grow. The winds of change at the very top represent that no matter what has happened, movement is eminent. Thank you for joining me! This time, with this piece I’ll introduce you to our next Cat, Tooty! She’s the queen of our hearts and makes sure we know it.

Stand Up By James Bridges

I was onced asked to stand in front of someone of “great importance” to explain myself and my actions. I had done nothing criminal. I wasn’t accused of anything specifically. I was asked to give a narrative as to why I made certain choices. By the way, I was an adult. The mental agility one must muster in order to acknowledge defeat is very overwhelming to most. Include me in that category. I felt as if I were an animal. As I entered the small bland room there were two men. The first was standing to the side of a desk. This one seemed to be the “observer” as I approached the chiseled structure of a figure of whom I was to confess. The anxiety was bubbling to the top. I looked to my left and noticed something that on many occasions has become very necessary by many very intelligent people. That “something” was an exit door. I had my eye on it. The chiseled man never stood. It was as if he had no desire to show any form of respect. Was I imagining his condescending tone? Almost immediately after a few derogatory terms spewed from his judgmental tongue, I knew I wasn’t. So I stood and talked. I talked about my choices. I spoke about what mattered and what didn’t. I laughed at the notion of his face turning red as I told my truth. I told him how I was in fact a person with feelings and emotions. I explained how the intimidation of having an “observer” didn’t phase me. I understood the game. He sat back in disbelief. I told the chiseled man who I was in my heart. I described the feelings that I had inside when I had a thought. His face showed a look of puzzled curiosity. I could watch the curiosity drain from his pupils as he spoke. He told me how he was superior and that I should listen. I was to no longer have a thought of my own. I was to think as he thought. No longer was I to do my best, he noted. He informed me of how his standards are true and that no other shall be more powerful on this earth. I giggled. Painting a picture in a mind that no longer has room on the canvas can be daunting. The key is to find a way to toss your brush stroke inside of the mix to turn that picture into gold. I made another attempt. I informed him that I have no “superior” in my life. I look up to only those that inspire me. I look down at those that require me to do as they wish. I explained how he made the wrong choice by selecting me. I let him know that his failure was that he was not able to recognize the fact that I cannot be controlled. He reluctantly stood to his feet. He looked over at the observer and shook his head. The door opened behind me.I turned to look as I walked away. He was shredding a piece of paper with my name clearly marked. I looked at the open door and noticed a shape in the clouds outside. The dream was still alive.

3 CHANGES IN THE WORKS FOR OMMA

LICENSED BUSINESSES

If the licensee fails to provide proof that they are “actively operating or working towards operational status”, then OMMA will grant the licensee a grace period of an additional 180 days from the date of OMMA’s initial operational status visit, within which to become operational. Follow-up visits will occur and, in the event the required proof is not provided upon the second visit, then OMMA may grant a discretionary, additional 180 days to the licensee, to become operational. However, the grace period shall not extend beyond the one-year license term. If compliance is not established and/or OMMA elects not to grant an additional grace period, then OMMA will seek revocation of the commercial business license.

The past several months have seen numerous changes to Oklahoma’s medical marijuana system, including new OMMA Permanent Rules; Amendments to OMMA Permanent Rules by September 16, 2021 Emergency Rules; passage of new bills by the state legislature such as HB 2272, HB 3228, HB 2646, and SB 1033 among those impacting medical marijuana and signed into law by Governor Stitt, with varying effective dates; and litigation over OMMA’s selection of METRC for seed-to-sale tracking. This writing will discuss three important changes among the plethora of developments, of which all OMMA business licensees should be aware: 1) implementation of OMMA on-site inspections to confirm all licensees are in fact operating and doing business; 2) removal of the 2-year Oklahoma residency requirement for transporter agents; and 3) allowing OMMA-licensed dispensaries and growers to package and sell medical marijuana as pre-rolls.

OMMA’s OPERATIONAL STATUS VISIT Under OMMA’s Permanent Rules as Amended by the Emergency Rules, OMMA has implemented an “initial operational status visit” for all growers, processors, and dispensaries, effective September 1, 2021. Pursuant to this new provision, OMMA will be scheduling on-site visits at licensed growers, processors, and dispensaries to verify whether the licensee is “actively operating” or is “working towards becoming operational.” (See Title 310, Oklahoma State Department of Health Regulations, Chapter 681-54.1.) These visits shall occur within the first 180 days after a new licensee receives their OMMA license.

REMOVAL OF CURRENT 2-YR OK RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR TRANSPORTER AGENTS. OMMA’s Permanent Rules as Amended by the Emergency Rules remove “transporter agent” from the definition of a “commercial license” but still require that all transporter agents provide proof of 2-year Oklahoma residency. On November 1, 2021, this will change. House Bill 2646, which becomes effective on that date, clarifies the residency requirement to require that transporter agent applicants provide only proof of current Oklahoma residency, as opposed to the 2-year Oklahoma residency requirement applicable to 75% of the ownership of medical marijuana commercial business licensees.

DISPENSARIES & GROWERS CAN PACKAGE & SELL PREROLLS.

House Bill 2646, which becomes effective November 1, 2021, authorizes OMMA licensed dispensaries and growers to package and sell medical marijuana as pre-rolls, thus eliminating any confusion about whether they can do so.

What’s the take-away? While there are many changes coming to Oklahoma’s medical marijuana system in the coming days, it remains the Wild, Wild West. Stay alert. Cannabis has a huge network of Cannabinoids and Terpenes that comprise up to make many different genetics. Let’s dive into the Cannabinoids! Cannabinoids are defined as a naturally occurring chemical compound found in the cannabis plant also known as Phytocannabinoids. The most common Cannabinoids to be found in the Cannabis Sativa plant are THC (Delta- 9-Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD (Cannabidiol), CBG (Cannabigerol), CBC (Cannabichromene), and CBN (Cannabinol). These are just a few of the over a 100 cannabinoids that work synergistically with your Endocannabinoid System (ECS) CB1 and CB2 receptors. THC is the most common for the psychoactive effects that bind to your CB1 and CB2 receptors. This cannabinoid is also the most scrutinized because of the psychoactive effects it gives. CBD is most common for its calming and ease of use with it only binding to your CB2 receptors. CBG typically is trace amounts in the cannabis plant but is the fundamental molecule of the cannabinoids binding to your CB1 and CB2 receptors with no psychoactive effects. CBN is produced after a degrading THC that has been exposed to outside elements such as heat and/or oxygen. Like THC, CBN also has psychoactive effects. Let’s dive deeper into the vast universe of Cannabis, the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is up next! 19 -@universewithjaz

Phenotypes

Like Grandma Used to Make by Charles “Uncle Chuck” Duncan

All living things, including humans, communicate on a cellular level. One cell tells another what to do. The extremely unique group of cells that make up each of us affect who we are and how we are perceived by others. Traits that can be observed by others, and not always by sight alone, have a direct impact on how others see us and treat us. The combination of our visual appearance, the sound of our voice, physical quirks and smells among other things, greatly affect how we are treated by others. Those unique combinations can be referred to as our Phenotype. Each one is unique to ourselves. Now think back to your favorite meal as a kid. Was it your grandmother’s biscuits and gravy? Your mothers lasagne? Pizza-bake at the school cafeteria? I personally miss cafeteria dining. What do you miss about it the most? Maybe it was the smell of an apple pie. Maybe it was how the meal looked. Perfect grill marks. Or maybe it was how it made you feel afterwards. Homemade ice-cream always provided memories of childhood summers within minutes of completing my first scoop. The things you observed and remembered about your favorite childhood meals are also considered phenotypes. Oxford Language Resource defines Phenotypes as “the set of observable characteristics of an individual resulting from the interaction of its genotype with the environment.” The genotype of an organism is its set of genetic material. The genes partly determine the “observable characteristics” of an organism, such as hair color, height, etc

because something is labeled Indica, doesn’t mean it will be the same as other Indicas. Much like one growers harvest of OG Kush won’t be the same as another growers version of the same strain. So what can you do to make sure you get consistent results? Follow the grower and not the strain name. And keep a cannabis journal. Tracking your cannabis experiences can be both educational and enjoyable. Don’t forget to include strain names, grower, dosage, emotional state pre and post consumption. Whether it is a traditional paper journal or one of the many online journals and blogs available, keeping notes regarding your cannabis consumption can be as clinical or as creative as your mind will allow. And no one says you just have to have one. The important thing is to document your experience. Defining the Phenotypes is typically one of the easiest ways to categorize the experience. Any good wine review will give you an idea of how phenotypes are expressed with cannabis. Diesel, Skunk, Fruity, Savory. Write that down. Everytime. Also note the effect. Was it a body high or head high or both? While I do love seeing a beautiful cannabis plant and have seen many in my years. I never connected the dots between a visually beautiful plant and its impact on my dispensary purchase. It’s the Charisma characteristic I never used in Dungeon and Dragons and don’t really use in Dungeons and Doobies ethier. But nonetheless, visual appearance is very much part of the overall phenotype of the cannabis plant. Once you start noticing repeatable patterns in your journal, you might name a specific favorite group of phenotypes you enjoy. Hint, soft drink companies have made billions by doing this. The important thing is to take it slow and document your progress. You will learn alot about the plant and yourself in the process.

Cannabis has a phenotype as well. The smell, looks, taste and affects between and within strain names can differ greatly. Just

Strain Of The Month By James Bridges

It was hot as hell and I needed a break from it. I had been awake the entire night before. I thought I could figure out what the hell went wrong with society. Eventually I realized... I just wasted the entire night trying to figure out what the hell went wrong with society. I figured, what better way to get my mind off of the absurdity of my environment than to become part of it. So I drove into town. I had a plan. I had some errands to run then of course make a stop to pick up my weed. I thought long and hard before I made it into town. I decided to get the weed first. The unpleasant aura of which I carried must have been highly visible as I entered Namah Cannabis. They knew that I knew that I needed to shake some things off. Maybe even cool off just a bit. The very wise budtender gifted me the option to purchase what he said would absolutely do the trick. I took it. Fortunately I didn’t have to wait long. You see, in the great state of Oklahoma, a smoking area option is an option I prefer as well. Caribbean Cooler from Pollen Nation Cultivation definitely took me to a happy place. The one place I always miss. I felt as if I were taking a walk along an old familiar path along a quiet beach while sipping on the sweet kool “aid” of creativity. I may not have found the answer to questions of absurdity. However, I did find a way to not really give too much of a damn and carry on. CARIBBEAN COOLER POLLEN NATION CULTIVATION The dominant terpene found in the Caribbean Cooler strain is Caryophyllene. The unique molecular structure of caryophyllene allows it to easily bind to CB2 receptors primarily located within our peripheral endocannabinoid system. This means that is doesn’t cause any of the euphoric feelings of cannabis while providing many of the benefits associated with activating those receptors, like reducing inflammation. It’s unlike any other terpene because it is the only one that has the ability to directly activate a cannabinoid receptor, especially CB2 receptors.

LOTUS LETTERS

DISCLOSURE Winding tunnels of light lead you aimlessly...you aren’t quite sure where you’re going, how you got here, or even where ‘here’ is, but it’s beautiful. Myriads of calydiscoping colors wrap you up in a warm sense of wellbeing and unconditional love. The next thing you know you’re waking up. You haven’t opened your eyes yet, but you know you’ve just been dreaming. Or were you? Finally you open your eyes and notice you can’t see the darkness, the sheets or even the walls. Just those colors, and in an instant, that feeling of perfect love wraps around you once more as you smile and relax into your pillow. [begin telepathic lotus letter transmission]

Dearest Daring Divine,

We’re so proud of you for all that you’ve done. Every smile, every hug. Each act of kindness. Your impact is infinite and felt by all. Don’t worry about figuring out a specific “life Purpose.” Many of us now have come to this planet to simply be alive, anchor in the cosmic energies and hold space for those that are waking. We are the third wave. The indigos, the rainbow children, the starseeds, fae, and earth angels among other fractals of source consciousness. If while reading this you are feeling goosebumps, tingles, temperature flux, hearing a sudden sharp ringing in one or both ears, or feeling nausea and or an abrupt pressure behind your third eye, your attention is being tapped. This pertains to you, love. Not too long from now, confusion and fear may surround like a darkening wall cloud. Truths will be told, secrets revealed, and rage triggered in so many. So much has been kept from us for so long. You are so much more than you think, and we as a civilization are far, far, more advanced than they are leading us to believe. Keep in mind, fear only has any power over us if we allow it. Furthermore, panic will not protect you from anything. Remember your breath, and focus on it. Remember your sovereignty, every choice is yours whether it be difficult or otherwise. Remember that you are a light in the dark for so many who will be afraid. Eventually they will come seeking answers, because the ‘powers that be’ will be revealed for their true colors. Teach them of love and compassion. Teach them to breathe, to forgive, and to let go. All the while we suggest you keep your eyes on the sky. But also keep a sharp eye when dreaming. Be aware of synchronicities, of numbers or animals. Take notice of the random encounters with people. What do they say to you? What has been weighing heavily on your mind recently? Does it coincide? We are here with you now, and we love you deeply. Our presence is drawing nearer to be more widely known. Until we read again, the YOUniverse. Many channelers across the board are offering similar advice. Don’t go panic buying, however: start stocking up on canned goods. Pick up a few each time you’re at the grocery. Pick up some extra water. Have the necessities. If you were to lose your electricity for more than five days, are you prepared for that? Again, if or when it seems bad, don’t be afraid. Be kind. But also, be prepared.

I’ve Been Waiting For This Moment For All My Life By Andrew Martin of Sherweed Forest All right Herb·age; you have given me a platform, so I have to get something out of the way before we talk about the matter for which I’m on this ‘promotional tour.’ Reader, help me out too. I have long promised my business partner Branden if ever given a platform, the first thing is make sure they say her name. So, kindly, read the following words out loud: Tracy Chaney. Sherweed Forest exists is because of Tracy. You see, Branden and I grew up in a town called Mannford. There are more churches than places to eat or socialize. The idea of using cannabis as medicine, or enjoyment was so far fetched, even saying, ‘marijuana’ felt like a sin. Branden and I hid our appreciation of cannabis into adulthood to avoid conflict. In 2018, Branden’s mom Tracy found out she had Late Stage lung cancer and was soon on hospice. Shocked, Branden visited her to see Xanex, Ritalin, Zoloft even Morphine on a table. He decided to source some cannabis (pre 788) to decarboxylate and add to butter. Then he made a batch of the family cookie recipe and tested the results on himself. In the final months of Tracy’s life, she gave Branden his, “You were right, and I was wrong.” She also didn’t take any more of the hospice drugs except for Morphine at the end. One day she said to him, “If you ever get the chance to do what you did for dad and me, quit your job and do it.” SQ788 passed, and we initially set out as pioneer patients to see what this legal market was all about. We kept coming to the same frustrating conclusion that if Tracy were here, or the next Tracy, there isn’t a place to find precision or targeted options consistently. The big apps are not talking about the present phenotypes or products here, but instead, it is when Blue Dream won the cup in 2015 in Colorado that they base their information. The people we have met on this journey to find that data and targeted nutrition for patients have humbled us beyond our wildest dreams. There are scientists, processors, cultivators, activists, creatives, and simply people who were once suffering but then found cannabis in this industry that is the most incredible set of individuals you can meet. They have solutions for you that can change your life. I wrote this piece to discuss our event, Throw Down Bazaar. It’s happening at the Gateway Event Center in Tulsa (856 E Admiral Blvd) on November Fifth from 6 pm-12 am. We have partnered with 420 S Utica Dispensary to offer an on-site Farmer’s Market-style experience where patients can interact directly with local cultivators and processors to purchase cannabis. Alongside that, we will have local food, live music, and a maker’s bazaar. I love the culture and community building around cannabis, and we didn’t start Sherweed Forest to host events. So why host Throw Down? We realized there has to be a better way to connect patients and producers directly. We have experienced firsthand when connecting patients to cultivators, they gain knowledge and understanding they would get in no other way. November fifth represents an uncompromising vision for the future. Instead of handing out business cards and selling t-shirts at the next touring convention, we want to offer something else. There are incredible people in the cannabis industry and thousands of Tracy’s who need help connecting with the best options. On November fifth, let’s get more of those, “You were right, and I was wrong” moments and change the way cannabis events operate. I believe we are about to mix some sauces and make good goulash. If anyone needs help in their cannabis journey or wants to celebrate this industry with us and shop your favorite brands directly, join us for Throw Down.

The Machine Is Alive Robot Pharmer by James Bridges & Wendy Elena

Wendy Elena is a cannabis industry compliance and regulation expert. Thenakedgrower.com

“This thing started in a garage in West Seattle!” The excitement to talk about Robot Pharmer was filling the air as we finally got a chance to sit down with the creators of this powerhouse brand. From seed to sale this unmistakable company has been producing products that are flying off of their very own dispensary shelves.

“When Oklahoma became medical, I was in Texas and I talked to Jeff. We were actually still thinking about Oregon at the time.” Josh was laughing at this point. “So, as soon as Oklahoma opened up we knew where we were going. We already had one of our partners in Oklahoma, Brant. We had some equipment and he did as well. We were able to put that together and get an operation started.” “Garrett is our genetic junky. So the first two years we went through a ton of seeds.” Josh seemed to know the brand story like the back of his hand. “We were just going through different things to start some different varieties of cultivars. It took a ton of patience. We wanted to try and figure out what the up sides and the down sides to each so that we can offer more strains that would fit the patients needs rather than just what is hyped at the moment. It’s a process.”

“We all work damn near seven days a week. We have a lot of pride.” Jeff Ely, co-owner and visionair, was ecstatic and very passionate about his team. “For Isaac and Josh to really take that project on and believe in it, you know? We came together and really learned about one another. All of us brought a different skill set. We were able to recognize that and work very well with everyone involved.”

Jeff was certain they could grow at this point. Now what to do with this big idea of being able to sell in their own dispensary?

The heart and soul of Robot Pharmer was ready to explode into the world with the early team of four entrepreneurs. So much so they were able to describe their experience as somewhat of a calling.

The room was in all ears as the two were traveling in a highway of recollection.

Jeff had a very successful real estate career until market woes and financial burdens hit a volatile market. “Then the market crashed and you know I filed bankruptcy. I lost everything. I always loved Austin. So, I went back to start over. At first I did a number of random jobs. I started a business eventually building houses.” Jeff started a boat jet ski rental business. “We were operating on the two Lakes down there. This opportunity with Robot Pharmer came about. Josh was in Seattle at the time.” Josh Wheat, co-owner and visionaire, divulged himself in the Seattle medical marijuanna market early on. He started growing medicinal cannabis and eventually created the Robot Pharmer brand. “I wanted to have the robot as an ambassador for the community. I didn’t want it to be much like 420 pot leaf stuff. I wanted to create a robot that everyone could rally around instead of the cliche “stoner” look and feel. We got a really badass designer that was super creative. I was able to relay my ideas through him with sketches. He started creating different scenes in the industry. So that’s how we got started with the Robot Pharmer brand. We wanted it to be a more inviting brand rather than just a “stoner” brand.” Soon after Josh described the Seattle medicinal scene as a “soon to disappear” environment as the recreational cannabis atmosphere hit the culture.

28

“Why would we not apply for licenses? The worst thing that happens is we lose $2,500” I thought to myself, let’s hit this full on. So that’s what we did. So then we got Josh.”

“I was in Austin. I remember like it was yesterday.” Josh’s eyes moved to the recall position. “So we got the emails back. I called Jeff while he was with another partner. I said... y’all get together let me call you back. I called and I had a big American flag on my back. I was so happy. We got our licenses and then the dispensary license came in just hours later. We were all so happy.” Jeff spoke as if he was talking about his family. His deep care for his team was very apparent. “Josh is up in Seattle and he had come down right before the news. Brant was in Broken Bow and was with his family. My longtime business partner and also close friend Isaac and I worked in the construction business for around 10 years. That’s where the connection is.” “Before plans go out the window you’re constantly pivoting based on what’s happening in the market.” Jeff explained. “I think we all at this point understand that the bills in place initially were put there with the intent to evolve. The OMMA did it this way because it benefited us. So there’s been a lot of rule changes. Our thoughts from the beginning were simple. We have a couple people on our team that really know how to grow good weed. We’ve got a couple people on our team that can operate a successful business. So it was simple. We’re going to grow weed. We’re going to run a dispensary. We’re going to make concentrates, carts, edibles, and now there are gummies. It’s all really blowing up!”

The key component to every edible is the Chef. Robot Pharmer has filled that need and then some with the addition of their very own, Brandon Bentley. “We have an amazing Chef that’s working with us now.” The look in Josh’s eye was one of imagining the flavor. “It’s so great. Maybe you have some issues with a crop and it doesn’t come out exactly how you want. We need to create an outlet for this right?” We were curious to ask Jeff about some of the most challenging issues they are facing today. “We need to put some time and focus into some current challenges. Right now the market is flooding. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about dispensaries, flower, and/or processing. At the end of the day that’s what everybody is kind of up against. I think for us. We are doing well at going into those different zones when needed.” The Robot Pharmer team has learned the importance of diversity. In order to sustain certain waves of market reactions Robot Pharmer has built a foundation that can evolve with the overall flow of the industry. That in itself is a task many strive to achieve. “Josh created this brand like a sunset in Seattle.” Jeff confessed. “I don’t want to say I didn’t understand how important a brand was, but at the same time I was very focused on production numbers. This is kind of how I think. The brand introduces that we have great quality products. I’m so happy and proud of the product we put out, but you have to have the branding with it. In a market that is so competitive everybody has that challenge right now. Including us. Luckily the amount of time and effort we put into our products and the amount of skus in a variety of products has given us that advantage that we need to try to meet some of these challenges.” Josh wanted to make clear that “The quality of products and the safety of our patients is very conscious on our end. The reality is... what are the patients going to like? As soon as you think you know, you’re in the wrong. You don’t know. So it’s really going through as much as possible, going off what we think people might like, and going through that 10 month pheno-hunting process. It’s hard to say because you just don’t know sometimes. I believe a lot of our success comes from staying consistent with our quality, safety, and marketability as a whole.” Jeff pointed out that everything they do is live resin. “We stay completely away from distillate. We have a one gram cart. That’s the only distillate that we use in any of our products. Robot Pharmer, with total transparency, pheno-hunts and cultivates quality strains from real breeders, while maintaining credit where credit is due. They flower to the best of their skill set, which in our opinion, places them in the top 5% of flower quality in the state of Oklahoma. Watching Robot Pharmer naturally grow in the industry and provide an open learning environment has been very inspirational. If you’ve been looking, you don’t have to look far for some of the best flower, and flower based products, and of course friendly faces, from Robot Pharmer.

It Takes A Village by James Bridges Publisher -HM

This edition of Herbage Magazine is very special to me as a publisher and a proud member of my community. I am personally very thankful that I have the opportunity to be a part of something that is larger than one scoop. I would much prefer diving into the entire barrel. Many of us have been at the bottom of that barrel and needed something or someone to show us the way to the surface. I am swimming inside of a pool filled with gratitude for those individuals spreading the light. The brands and companies creating good medicine and products for our better quality of life deserve our thanks. The leaders and pillars of this community who want what is BEST for it, inspire me. I firmly believe that in order to move forward in a positive way we must honor rather than judge. Most of all, I would like to recognize the true heart and soul of our community’s gratitude. That is the individual patient and their families that have suffered for many years under an inhumane law. May your persistence lead to the greatest of success.

POLITICAL REPRESENTATIVE & FAVORITE BLACK CATALYST FOR CHANGE

Chilly Mack

Chilly Mack admits that it was powerhouse colleague Teresa Teran and gubernatorial hopeful Connie Johnson who encouraged him to use his voice and platform for advocacy. He speaks of his gratitude for their encouragement and how it became an opportunity to learn how to maneuver Black leadership through an industry where more than 97% of his peers are anything but Black. Becoming a catalyst for change was not a part of Chilly’s big plan, at least not consciously, but after an encounter at a trade show early in the development of his brand, Mr. Mack’s, he realized that he would need to use his position create safe spaces for difficult discussions. An attendee inquired of Chilly what he did for Mr. Mack’s. Chilly explained that he was the proprietor, that he had worked to build the brand himself, and that he had vertically integrated so that he could control the quality of all the products he licensed under his name. The patron again implored, “yeah but what do YOU do for them?” Chilly reiterated his role and asked why the man questioned him. the man admitted that he “thought Chilly Mack must be a white guy because it was all too well put together.” Moments like that are always opportunities to Chilly, chances for him to make a positive impact. Chilly explains the responsibility of Black leadership, “We have to go above and beyond our peers. I am called to be influential to other people of color because cannabis is the only form of reparations that BIPOC indivduals are actually going to get.” He knows the struggle of Black entrepreneurship is compounded in an industry that is still federally illegal, where many would-be Black business owners are victims of the ill-fated war on drugs, a hurdle that often makes cannabis business ownership unachievable. With more than 85% of cannabis arrests involving a Black citizen, and less than 3% of cannabis businesses owned by Black entrepreneurs, Chilly asserts that there is much work to be done. He drives home his point, “When I look at the cannabis industry, I can name a hundred different amazing, influential people but only three of them are people of color; I want to see that change.”

Eufloria Patients love gushing about

Jerry AlMufleh is co-founder of SilverLeaf Senior Cannabis, a dispensary ded-

icated to senior patients. After 25 years in home health, hospice, and palliative care, Jerry recognized a lack of education designed for senior consumers. The information gap for aging patients led Jerry and wife Alison Avery AlMufleh to develop SilverLeaf Senior Cannabis. Their mission to be a portal of trustworthy information for senior patients interested in cannabis as a treatment for many common and some uncommon illnesses.

Jerry’s loyalty to education and respect for senior patients are shining beacons for patients seeking a trustworthy source of information regarding cannabis therapy. Medical reports reflect that cannabis use among seniors is steadily increasing. SilverLeaf has developed comprehensive education regarding the patient concerns of an aging generation. Their education is easy to understand and includes details about the products they stock in the store. They’ve curated a community of trusted brands that provide consistently dosed medication that can be recommended for newcomers with no experience or seasoned patients. Silverleaf’s team works hard to explain treatment options in a way that helps patients make informed choices about correct dosage, desired effect, and palatable administration/ingestion. Jerry, Alison, and the Silverleaf team are devoted to improving quality of life for Oklahoma’s seniors. They do so by providing a comfortable environment for in store discussions and demonstrations regarding cannabis therapy. SilverLeaf Senior Cannabis is clearly a community pillar for senior health services in Oklahoma’s cannabis industry, but they provide some rather invaluable, non-weed resources as well.

the boutique shopping experience at each of the six Eufloria locations in and surrounding the Tulsa metro. A big reason that Eufloria is the 918 Best Dispensary winner is due to the personalized experience they receive when they are in the store. Personal shoppers greet patients when they enter, offering a guided experience that invites patients to identify their particular ailments. The experienced and knowledgeable staff provide recommendations and information intended to guide patients as they choose the medical cannabis products that will best address their needs. Eufloria believes that shoppers are most satisfied when they are well-informed. INFLUENTIAL INDIVIDUAL & Activist of the Year

Bethany Logan Bethany Logan stands out from her peers for her work ethic, vast knowledge base, and exuberance. Being a young professional – now only 25 years old, Bethany has had a few hurdles to overcome. Regulations in place with OMMA prevented Bethany from starting her own transport company but the hindrance from OMMA didn’t deter her for long. With transport company dreams on hold, Bethany set out to expand her reach. Bethany travels every corner of Oklahoma, visiting dispensaries with products from one of the six companies she represents. The companies are fabulous, she notes, and she explains that she is so grateful for the opportunities she has. Representing brands like Juicy Gummy Drops, Xen Xtracts, and Pollen Nation Cultivation provides her with a route to deliver information to a ready-made target audience full of budtenders and curious patients. Traveling the state educating folks about the medical benefits of cannabis is exactly what Bethany loves and doing what she loves has landed three other contracts: Biggerstaff Budz, Holistic Heights and Okie TGSP. As Bethany’s network grows, so do her plans for education. There are big things on the horizon in Oklahoma’s cannabis industry; expect to see Bethany making an even bigger impact.

FAVORITE BLACK CULTURAL AMBASSADOR

Connie Johnson U.S. Senator Connie Johnson hails from Holdenville, OK. She holds a master’s in science from Langston University. The gubernatorial candidate’s heart is all red dirt, and she has used it to serve Oklahoma’s residents through her tireless work in our legislature.

Connie believes in servant leadership, an approach that values working with the community to install solutions with citizen liberties in mind. Connie Johnson has been a vocal ally in the fight for cannabis legalization and acceptance. Her efforts in marijuana reform date back more than fourteen years in her career. To this day, Connie can be seen marching the streets for cannabis awareness or visiting talk radio shows like Stigma Radio to spread information and extend legitimacy to cannabis treatment. Senator Johnson engages in thoughtful discussions with OMMA officials, cannabis industry leaders, and Oklahoma cannabis patients. If not at an event, on the radio or television, or in an important meeting, you might catch Senator Johnson and her brilliant assistant stopping by a backyard “sesh” to network with industry leaders. You’re likely to spot her on stage speaking to the need for reform and reparations in cannabis criminality. Connie Johnson has long been an outspoken advocate for individual liberties. Her work in legislation reflects a passion to protect the most disenfranchised citizens in Oklahoma. She stands firm in her commitment that Oklahomans deserve equality, quality of life, freedom of self, and a sense of community. Connie’s inquisitive nature and commitment to communication are the reason she’s the reader favorite for Black Cultural Ambassador.

BUDTENDER OF THE YEAR

Jared Frost

Jared Frost can be found floating between Dr. Z Leaf locations at 68th and Memorial or 31st and Harvard in Tulsa, OK. As a budtender, he gets to spend his days chatting patients up about his favorite subject: cannabis. Jared has a warm personality and inviting conversation style that suit his role as budtener very well. In fact, Jared’s gregarious nature is what helped him transition from working two jobs to a valued position as a well-informed authority in Oklahoma’s cannabis industry. Once a week or so, after knocking out his full-time job and a few shifts tending bar down the street, Jared would pop into Dr. Z Leaf to check the inventory and visit with the staff. As he was developing his patient relationship with the dispensary, Jared’s became deeply interested in the available research around medical cannabis. He would spend his free time researching terpenes, cannabinoids, chemical compounds, and dosing and efficacy. His visits with the staff became informative visits and turned into a professional opportunity. Jared’s favorite aspect of his job is having a platform to connect with patients need informed cannabis therapy. He loves breaking preconceived notions about cannabis and he has lots of opportunities to do so because there is much confusion surrounding the medicine still. Preconceptions about cannabis exist for a variety of reasons, and Jared is committed to educating folks to the best of his ability so that they can make treatment choices that make sense for him. Whether he is helping casual users learn about medicinal benefits or first-time patients choose the experience they’re hoping for, Jared’s approach to cannabis education is individualized to the patient he is conferring with. Jared’s attentive nature and scope of knowledge are admirable in a still-fledgling industry, eager for information. IG: @the_highabetic420 jared@drzleaf.com Born in 1964, Larry Reed was what was commonly referred to as a “problem child” for his innate ability to distract his classmates and disrupt authority figures, He became an advocate for cannabis when he realized that the devil’s lettuce helped him calm down. Larry tried cannabis for the first time around seventh grade and he realized then that it was helpful. He knew then that MMJ medicine. Without proper advocates for his unique learning abilities, Larry struggled to stay engaged in school but ultimately wound up in college where he submitted his graduate thesis covering the nuance of maintaining the underground marijuana market. After college, and a near death experience driving off the side of a cliff, Larry found himself disenfranchised with the party and drug lifestyle around him. As a result, he started avoiding the bar scene and found himself visiting head shops and getting involved with glass blowers and manufacturers. This endeavor would prove to be pivotal in Larry’s transition to cannabis professional. Larry had been an avid Deadhead but when Jerry Garcia passed, the tours became less frequent. With his familiar stoner community waning away, Larry discovered Phish and realized his opportunity to combine his love for glass and his love for music and community by touring with fans and selling glass to concert-goers.

IG:@larryreedmanonweed2 FB: Larry Reed larryreed@manonweed.com

Larry Reed’s unique voice and speech pattern sets him apart from the crowd. It was during a grocery trip nine years ago when a woman turned and asked him if she recognized his voice from the radio. Larry realized he should embrace his unique sound and took matters into his own hands. He started to create content interviewing cannabis industry peers. With a great network of guests, Larry sought out more opportunities to bring cannabis information to the public. He began touring with glass shows and hosting local cannabis industry competitions which led to Larry becoming the voice of Degenerate Flame All, a glass blowing competition that features artists from around the country. As his entertainment career blossomed, Larry was given the opportunity to come to Oklahoma to cover the explosion of the local cannabis industry. He confesses that coming to Oklahoma was the best thing for his career in awareness and advocacy. His passion for cannabis has always been to provide reliable information to the public regarding the medical benefit of weed. Larry understands that so many of his paths have led him here and that he is here for a reason. It seems Larry Reed’s destiny is to be a trusted portal for cannabis information.

Shelley Dunnam

Is a mom. Her 9-year-old daughter, Marleigh, is her driving force. Marleigh is an epileptic patient in Oklahoma and Shelley has committed her career to advocating for Marleigh’s right to cannabis therapy. Diagnosed at 10 months old, Marleigh was placed on a regimen of life-preserving pharmaceuticals. Medicines designed to reduce the number of seizures or the severity of an epileptic event. By age 4, the medicines were working less reliably; doctors advised Shelley that if an effective treatment therapy wasn’t found… This set Shelley to work, She began researching cannabis therapy, work that ignited a passion for access to treatment for Marleigh, and other patients desperately in need of a new solution. Shelley and family recorded and shared videos featuring Marleigh’s journey, content intended to persuade hearts and minds to change, to favor medical cannabis. After the passage of SQ788, Shelley, Marleigh, and their team of doctors got to work dialing in terpene profiles that could treat the symptoms of Marleigh’s condition and researching cannabinoids that would be most effective in mitigating the disease. After six months of cannabis therapy, Marleigh experienced a remission of one year, six months, and eight days. Creating ShellD Cannabis Advocacy was Shelley’s vehicle to ensure that Marleigh, and patients like her, would be visible. Shelley’s advocacy is centered on breaking stigma through educational services at events and through her work as manager of Apothecary Extracts in Durant, a company that is near and dear to Shelley for its sponsorship of Marleigh’s therapy. Shelley knows that with proper education, she can break the stigmas surrounding cannabis and ensure that no one else has to grow up without access to cannabis – a medicine she knows saves and transforms lives. shelldganjaseur@gmail.com

FAVORITE INDIGENOUS CULTURAL AMBASSADOR FAVORITE INDIGENOUS ADVOCATE AND CATALYST FOR CHANGE

Alan Wheeler

is the Herbage Best Of winner for Favorite Indigenous Cultural Ambassador and Favorite Indigenous Advocate and Catalyst for Change. Alan uses his various platforms to share his experience and knowledge to shine a light on cannabis-based wellness options. Talking about wellness is his primary role as a manager at Been There Medicinals in Anadarko, OK. As an enrolled member of the Wichita tribe and a recognized member of the Comanche Nation, Alan understands what it means to be an information broker. Alan’s communication approach makes him a relatable authority on cannabis, both with THC and without. With a growing number of tribal members interested earth-based treatments for pain, mental health, and addiction, Alan walks a fine line navigating tribal regulations that may prevent patients from using THC-containing treatments. Despite the challenges, patients visit him in store every day to learn about therapy options through cannabis. When there are THC related challenges, Alan meets them with a wealth of knowledge regarding CBD products. Both in his role among tribal peers and as a one of Oklahoma’s most admired cannabis industry leaders, Alan understands the importance of connection. Breaking into the industry as a budtender and then launching a promotions company put Alan in position to really connect with patients. He noticed many medical patients using the medicine but not getting the full benefit of treatment. This is where Alan seizes his chance to teach. He explains that many cannabis users look forward to their nightly blunt or bowl. These patients recognize the relief they are getting but often lack the knowledge that empowers them maximize the effect a long-term benefit of cannabis or CBD therapy. Health and wellness are the building blocks of Alan’s advocacy work. He wants to help people see that through mindful eating, physical activity, and human connectedness, everyone can achieve a better quality of life. Now a purpose-driven leader, Alan reflects on his “troubled youth”, a past that included substance abuse and personal neglect. He explains that his past is what pushes him to show others how to break the cycle of addiction and substance use. He wants to inform his peers, both in and outside tribal communities, so that there is no stigma surrounding cannabis. He hopes that providing trustworthy information will influence leaders around the state to embrace the safety of cannabis treatment. With substance use disorders plaguing populations across Oklahoma, Alan Wheeler insists that is time to give cannabis respect as an alternative to pharmaceutical treatments for addiction IG: @darkoboy405_

The brand was developed in order to highlight the endocannabinoid progress and work that is being done at GnuPharma Corp. When the CBD landscape was considered, no products really rose to the level of endocannabinoid efforts needed to address most medical conditions. Clearly CBDs have value and medical benefits, but throwing them in a soup of MCT oil seems limited and basic. In 2014 GnuPharma developed an anecdotal way to modulate the endocannabinoid system with simple herbs and spices. The company quickly patented the idea and began to develop the science and University level relationships to build on its theories. GnuPharma theorizes that incredible synergies and power can come from combining the power of herbs and spice with the power of CBD. We call these combined formulations Biocueticals. The TrueMedx brand brings the power of GnuPharma science around plants with the power and known benefits of medicinal CBD. Together these make a powerful and synergistic combination.

MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT

Bee Elevated EOCO By Bee Elevated

Bee Elevated partnered with Joshua Graston to develop the EOCO Capsule: a potent, extended-release Essence of Cannabis Oil designed to deliver consistent dosages as the capsule is metabolized. EOCO is a deserving winner of the Most Innovative Product award for their hard work in research and development ahead of their full-speed product launch. This powerful little capsule delivers a lot of medicine in one tasteless capsule. The purpose of a high-dose, extended-release capsule is to provide patients in need of intensive cannabinoid therapy with a safe choice that helps them ingest all the medicine they need without experiencing the full intensity of the dose at once. Spreading the dose out over time allows patients to experience a longer period of relief and avoid some of the less desirable effects of high-dose treatment, such as sleepiness or nausea. With a penny patient program in place, Graston and the Bee Elevated team have made great back splash in the world of medical cannabis treatment. They are always evolving their product line to meet the needs of Oklahoma’s patients so you can expect many interesting things to come with their EOCO line.

Mittie’s credits their team for helping them craft tasty, full spectrum products that they are all proud to share with Oklahoma’s cannabis patients.

BEST BLUNTS BRAND

Heavy Heads by Mittie’s Medicinals Heavy Heads were inspired by good old dad. As many children of stoners know from the old days, new friends had to be “vetted” before they could come over and hang out. During prohibition, stoner parents taught their children that cannabis was something that not everyone understood and so it was great risk to bring newcomers around who might tell their parents that something about your dad’s “cigarettes” was different. That kind of attention was most unwanted for decades and the folks at Mittie’s Medicinals recount Dad’s signal for safe company.

Whenever Mittie would meet a new friend, she’d check with her pops to see if he knew the new companion’s parents. If Dad replied that the parents were “Heavy Heads” she knew that her newfound friend was safe to bring over. In developing their glass-tipped blunts, they wanted to pay homage to Dad and what more fitting way to do so than by naming their premium product “Heavy Heads”. Mittie’s Medicinals offers a Shortie and The Rev through their Heavy Head’s line. The Shortie is a stout 3.5 grams of whole flower packed tightly and wrapped in a top-grade hemp wrap. The quality continues in The Rev, a whopping 6 gram blunt intended to handle everything the day can throw at it.

Pott County

Hide-Out Hi de-Out Pott County Hide-Out sits just outside Pink, OK off old Highway 9. Turn north on a gravel road just east of the Sinclair (that’s N S 333, if you’re keepin’ track) and keep your eyes peeled for a corrugated metal building on your left. The unassuming building has a cool prohibition vibe, a feel that is welcoming and discreet. Stevens Road is heavily wooded, and the Pott County Hideout enjoys the full benefit of being tucked away. The charm of Pott County Hide-Out, secondary only to their amazing team, is their deck: a safe space for patients to visit. The host of the deck is Chick Chick. Chick Chick is a chicken who kinda just hangs around with Jennifer Hunt, the proprietor of Pott County Hide-Out. You can think of Chick Chick as the Chief Officer of Vibes. Save Your Soul By James Bridges

The swift cold sea splashes as the spirit navigates forward. Anxiety and depression. Oh you. Look at you peaking in and talking to me. What you are asking of me is getting old… This thin soul is reaching its point of no return. The thought of dealing with you once again is exhausting. Maybe I should just change souls… The quest to save one’s soul is never ending unless we step away and look at what is stopping us. It’s usually ourselves. It is with me. We cannot hide the quirks and feelings of unanswerable questions that seem to always lurk. We can listen to them. What would happen if you were to go into a room and shine a light on those shadows that have followed you all your life? Would they frighten you as you kindly invited them to speak? The trauma that arises as we grow in forms of anxiety and depression compounds over time. We continue to hear these preachings around us. Yet, we tend to do nothing different. There’s nothing to change it seems… The sense of urgency of saving one’s soul is misguiding the light in which we should be reflecting. In my journey I have started to listen. It has helped me to put a little different perspective on things. I’m not an expert by any means. However, I can hear my body talking. What it is saying is that all I need to do is simply reclaim it, my body, and then maybe the soul will be saved along the way...
