They had so much fun last year, they decided to do it again. That was essentially the line of thinking when officials at Nazarene Family Church in Hereford made the no-brainer decision to continue the Father’s Day celebration another year. With hopes of becom-
ing an annual event in its debut last year, Dad-Fest is well on the way of becoming a fixture on the Hereford calendar for the third weekend in June. “Everyone last year loved it,” Nazarene Family Church pastor Ted Taylor said. “We had about 700 who registered and a lot more came. It was a great event. “The weather didn’t
help us out, but it was a real success. It was very well attended.” Like last year, this year’s event will take place at Dameron Park on Saturday, June 16. Games, concessions and music will keep the crowd going as they peruse a variety of classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. With car shows a popu-
lar attraction, Dad-Fest 2017’s proved that in spades as it drew nearly 90 vehicles for display. “People really loved the car show,” Taylor said. To complete the feel with vintage vehicles around, this year’s event has an added event with the classic vehicles cruising the streets of Hereford during the evening. The purpose of the
event is to help shine the spotlight on dads, who are often somewhat overlooked in terms of appreciation. “We want this to be a positive, family-friendly event to celebrate dad and his family,” Taylor said. “This gives dads something special to do with the kids. PLEASE SEE DAD-FEST | 5

A come and go reception honoring Shelly Moss, long-time executive director of King’s Manor Methodist Retirement System, will be held Friday, June 8, from 2-4 p.m. in the Lamar Room at the manor. It will be a time for laughter, fellowship, and recollection—and more than likely, the shedding of a few tears. Mrs. Moss is stepping down after 24 years of work at the Manor to pursue clinical social work. Her departure from King’s Manor marks the turning of the page on a significant chapter in the history of senior care within the community that she had a major hand in writing. As one friend observed, “Shelly Moss may be succeeded, but she will never be replaced at King’s Manor.” Mrs. Moss says she won’t leave her post until a suitable individual has been hired and trained for the position. “I will continue working with the Founders Board on this year’s major fundraiser, the Founders Day barbecue and auction. I came to King’s Manor 24 years ago as the Social Services director, and fell in love with social work and with this place and its people. I have found that I miss social work. In order to follow an original dream of pursuing clinical social work I have to leave my long-time home of King’s Manor, but I’m not leaving Hereford. “It has been an honor and privilege to know and work with my fellow employees, family members and residents. So many faces and personalities have left imprints on my soul that I am forever changed,” said Mrs. Moss. After graduating from Amarillo High
