October was certainly a busy month on the courses, with the Heritage Invitations closely followed by the Club Championship and the annual Ryder Cup. At the Club Championship we had 35 members signed up playing across 4 flights. Day 1 went off without incident, but the second day was postponed due heavy rain. However, we managed to complete day 2 on the following week and crowned our flight winners and our Club Champion. Congratulations to Ron Tucker for great play to shoot a gross 149 and become 2021 Club Champion. Ron narrowly beat Carl Nelson, who scored 150 and was the Championship Flight net score winner. Between them, Ron and Carl have wrapped up the Majors in 2021 so far, with just the 2-Man Match Play Championship in November remaining. In the other flights, congratulations to the winners: Member tees -Charlie Fiedler (147) and Bob Fratarcangelo(148) and Black tees -Kevin Nattrass(156). Charlie made an eagle on #17 on Barony from 150 yards to narrowly beat Rick Keebaugh on a scorecard playoff. The course has benefitted greatly from the rain and fertilizer application recently. Over-seeding of the tee boxes, greens and collars will begin shortly. As we move into the fall and winter season, please be aware that the Bermuda grass will cease to grow –abide by the 90-degree cart rules and avoid driving in the rough in order to protect the dormant grass. Notable dates in the coming 2 months: · 2 Man Match Play Championship: Wednesday 3 November, Monday 8 November, Friday 12 November. Each round of matches must be completed no later than these dates · Super Men’s Day: Wednesday 17 November · Super Men’s Day: Monday 13 December (note the change of date) · Nightmare Nine before Christmas: Friday 16 December

RYDER CUP 2021

The annual Ryder Cup was played on October 16 and October 20. A total of 48 members played across the 2 days and were split into 2 teams, drafted by their member captains Ron Tucker (Team Walker) and Carl Nelson (Team Beauregard). On the evening before the event, we were again able to enjoy the barbecue skills of Mickey Giglio and Marty Schuppert; thanks also go to Lanny Bailey and Jack Schrader, John Gibbs and Kevin Nattrassfor supplying the steaks and side dishes. A fun time was had by all. Day 1 play on Robbers Row involved 9 holes of 2-man, best ball match play followed by 9 holes of alternate shot. Matches were closely contested with 5 of the 12 matches tied. However Team Walker managed to edge a narrow lead of 5 points heading into day 2. Day 2 play on Barony involved 9 holes of 2-man Best ball match play and 9 holes of individual match play. There was strong showing from teams on both sides, however Team Beauregard managed to pull a 10 point win on Day 2 and take the overall competition by a narrow margin of 5 points (out of a total of 531 points over the 2 days). Congratulations to Team Beauregard who are 2021 Ryder Cup winners. To add some more fun into the event, we had a short game challenge and closest to the pin (#2 Barony). Congratulations to the respective winners: Tom Brettingenwon the nearest the hole (4 feet 9 inches) and Ed Harbauerwon the short game challenge. Thanks to all who participated and to the Sport Shop for making this another fun and successful event
