We design for the celebration of human life. DICK HAMMEL Co-Founder, HGA
Established in 1953, HGA is a national, award winning firm built on the belief that impactful design results from the inspired application of original insight into the human condition. The drive for deep understanding shapes the way we collaborate and deploy the diverse resources within our firm. It’s how we deliver unexpected solutions that provide added value. Ultimately, it’s the way we create a legacy for our clients and ourselves.

MUSEUM EXPERTISE Working with HGA becomes a partnership grounded in collaboration, trust, and communication. Along the way we strive to learn more about you than you perhaps even know yourself, as we dive deep into the essential elements of your institution’s mission, goals and hopes. We ask essential questions at the right time and listen profoundly to your answers. We earn the right to challenge you. Usually, there is a lot of fun to be had along the way. And ultimately, HGA will deliver a project that works, lasts and inspires.

CREATIVITY & INSPIRATION HGA’s dedicated cultural design studio is a tight-knit collective of architects, designers and engineers who thrive in a highly collaborative, creative environment, rather than as individual design stars. We love what we do, and are driven to create inspiring and lasting work for our clients. Our inspiration comes from the deep understanding of vision and goals, and relationships that we develop with our clients. We are fueled by our own personal connections to culture, community, and place. Above all, we are honored to play a role in helping our clients make an enduring impact on our world by creating designs that meld beauty, originality, and inspiration.
We’re one gateway to downtown Minneapolis, and we think of this as a kind of once-in-ageneration opportunity to shape that entry. OLGA VISO Former Executive Director, Walker Art Center

VISITOR EXPERIENCE & ENGAGEMENT Museum design is constantly evolving, shifting, and adapting to reach new audiences and be inclusive of every generation. Today’s museums are vibrant, interactive hubs for inspiration, presentation, and education. Designed with the visitor experience in mind, museums are striving to engage audiences in new and innovative ways, with interactive exhibits, creative amenities to extend the visitor’s stay, flexible performance spaces, and visible storage solutions to provide greater access to collections. These cultural centers are integral members of their communities, providing places to gather, celebrate, and socialize.
MUSEUM INNOVATION Designing extraordinary cultural facilities requires expertise, imagination, and innovation. Over the past six decades, HGA has developed a reputation for bringing these elements together to great success. All of the experts on our multidisciplinary project teams—architects, engineers, interior designers, and specialists—understand the unique requirements for museums and work to provide options for solutions in the early design stages, saving time and money. As museums have evolved, so has our expertise. We are constantly researching, reaching out to leaders in the field, attending our clients’ professional conferences, and learning from them directly about the future of the field. We understand the current economic, programmatic and sustainability challenges and opportunities that organizations need to address, and we work with our clients to envision the future.
