INTRODUCTION Greetings, wolves! Another month has just flown by with the snap of a finger, can you believe it? Summer sure goes fast, especially when you're having fun. I think July was wonderful - bright weather, a relaxing repose, and (most of all) lots of community service! Once again. you guys as key club members continue to amaze me through your works of dedicating yourself to help create a better community. Many people would prefer lying down and playing video games all day. However, I'm proud of you guys who sacrificed a part of your summer to attend these little events, especially in this scorching heat. You ever heard of the term "a penny could save a life"? Well, it's the same in this case - one person can do so much to contribute to our hard work. Keep up the good work, key clubbers! Always remember that as president, I am here to serve and assist! Hello dearest Key Clubbers! I hope you are all enjoying your summer and the many waves of service this season offers us to do. This month has been quite eventful as it marks one WHOLE month for us to do service! It also marks as our last summer edition newsletter. Now we all know we go back to school soon, but no need to be bummed! There are still many events for us to attend (though I must say that school should be your first priority), and with these upcoming events, I must ask: Do you have any pictures, or anything to say of your favorite event? Email me at d03s.hhkc.bulletined@gmail.com so that I may possibly use your photos and articles for the next newsletter! Enjoy the rest of your summer key clubbers and keep riding these waves of service!

BURBANK ROSE FLOAT It may be the beginning of July, a mid-summer day, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any community service going on! On July 6, Herbert Hoover High Key Clubbers drove to BWP Auxiliary Warehouse, located on Olive Ave. in Burbank, California. Here, our members and officers joined hand-in-hand with the Burbank Tournament of Roses Association. We had cut up mushrooms used from previous floats into “new” mushrooms, so that they may be used again to decorate the floats. Afterwards, we were given the task to cut up flower petals, similar to our job back in December for the Rose Parade floats. Though a tiring, sore event, it was all worth our time, since we knew that we had helped taken part in preparation for what will be a stunning float for Burbank.

ARTICLES REGION 7 BEACH CLEAN UP! Region 7 Beach Clean Up took place on July 20 at Dockweiler Beach from 10am to 7pm, where members and officers of the divisions of region 7 enjoyed themselves to some summer service!

DIVISIONS OF REGION 7:

D3S Wolves, D3N Starfish, D16 White Tigers, D25E Koalas & D25W Puffer Fish

This beach clean-up was organized in a way where key clubbers were to be arranged into groups of what month their birthday was – helping members make new friends and create a memorable service event under the sun! Much like a scavenger hunt, to the winning team’s delight, the prize was first in line to the food trucks. But of course, the event itself had much to offer such as games, s’mores, and our Division Council Meetings. One huge event such as this is something to look forward to during the summer, and surely one cannot miss this!

GALCO’S SUMMER SODA TASTING 3 – 2013 For the month of July, the event that I really enjoyed participating in was the Soda Tasting Event/Fundraiser at Galco's Soda Pop Stop at Highland Park. We worked with our fellow Key Clubbers from the high schools of Benjamin Franklin and Sotomayor. For 6 hours, we first began setting up the stalls for the guests to test out the sodas to running in and out of the store restocking the sodas, as well as pouring them out to people who wished to try out the many different flavors from across the globe. Overall, I was really happy working at this event and I hope the employees at Galco's would like us to stop by there again for next year. - Christian Acfalle HHS Historian

RECOGNITIONS MEMBER OF THE MONTH

MARK KAHANDING It is no surprise that Magy is once again awarded officer of the month for the month of July. When none of the officers are able to go to an event, she is always the first to let our president know she will be willing to do service for our community. Not only is this Star Trek loving girl in key club, but she also partakes in volunteering for Cedars-Sinai and practicing her pep flags routines. Regardless of all of that, she still advances to make room in her busy schedule to join almost every event she can. On top of that, she continues to put her best into whatever she has to do. She creates a calm environment for the new members who go to the occasions, and she always knows how to put a smile on someone's face. She is known for being the perfect people person, and her public speaking skills are just a bonus to her spontaneous personality. She is definitely a go-to if you have any questions about Key club. Yaaaay, Magy!

Being one of the only active members during the summer, Mark is definitely our most outgoing. He can be constantly seen making new friends in every event he joins, so you can expect he is pretty well known among the key clubbers. Being energetic, Mark isn't afraid to make new ideas to benefit the club. His radiant personality definitely shows it! During the beach cleanup, he was able to pick up a vast amount of trash throughout the shoreline without breaking a sweat! At school, he is a current member of Hoover's chamber choir, and the president of the all guys acapella. He enjoys beat boxing and singing, so don't be shy to ask him to share a few notes. So, if you see Mark around events, don't be shy to introduce yourself. You may have found a loyal companion. Keep it up, Mark!
