A Message From The President ...

Hello Key Clubbers! The school year is almost over, and I honestly cannot believe how fast it has all gone by! We have had a good couple of weeks of break, even though most of us were under the burdens of AP testing. Soon enough, we will be relaxing under the sun and beginning a summer filled with service! Can you guys believe that its almost Summer break? This month, we volunteered at a Charity Horse Show, a Rice and Beans event at out local Salvation Army, the annual Verdugo 10k, and also at the Glendale One Day project. Surely it was a productive month and I am very proud of those of you who participated at the events. Next Month we are planning on attending some divisional events, so stay tuned. Live long and prosper,

Magy Avedissian

Fiesta of the Spanish Horse “The horse show was an event that was presented by "Fiesta of the Spanish horse". This horse show raises awareness and funds for the USC Norris comprehensive cancer center and Children's hospital of Los Angeles. It was a very fun event with lots of people, food, and horses. The event consisted of many things such as a costume contest with a theme of " Fantasy" and kids doing tricks on their horses. It was a very exciting event and was very nice to work with Annika and Katelin -Jeong-A Cha Club Member

Rice & Beans "Attending the monthly Rice and Beans at the local Salvation Army is one of my favorite events to volunteer for the club. Besides helping out with the variety of tasks that were given, the most enjoyable part of the two hour event is building relations with some of the other volunteers such as our local Kiwanis Club members, several members from Glendale Community College's Circle K Club, as well as Key Clubbers from Verdugo Hills High School from Division 3 North. All we had in common was one simple word: service. Even though there was a small number of volunteers, the energy and words of encouragement coming from the Kiwanis members helped all of us give one more push to finishing up packaging all the rice and beans before 12." -Christian Acfalle Club Vice President

Member Of The Month Katelin Han is our Member of the Month for May! Most of the new members that have joined our club have always been freshman, but Katelin is one freshman that stands out than the rest. She has joined Key Club and has participated at several events such as the AIDS Walk at Beverly Hills and West Hollywood in October to the most recent event at Burbank, the Charity Horse Show. What makes Katelin different than the rest is that she has been the only freshman that volunteered at every event, and this proves that Katelin is one member that Hoover can rely on when events pop up and need volunteers. Besides Key Club as an extracurricular, she is also part of Hoover’s dance team, and with her extreme spirit she is looked up to by most of the freshman for being capable of overcoming even the most difficult obstacles and tasks at an event. Congratulations Katelin! You will always be an inspiration of what strong dedication is to other members.

OFFICER OF THE MONTH Service . The final frontier. To Magy Avedissian, this is nothing but the first leap into stepping into the role of out new club president! Since the start of our freshman year together, Magy has been recognized a lot by others for outstanding leadership, and especially when we first joined Key Club as members. As the school years progressed, and the club elections coming and going, Magy rose from being a prominent member, to club publicist, and to finally, the position of President (the captain’s chair in her eyes). Besides the usual division events, Magy has signed up a number of enjoyable events Hoover’s Key Club have volunteered on their own such as the L.A. Charity Horse Show in Burbank and the Kiwanis One Day Project at Daily High School. Besides Key Club, Magy is involved with a number of clubs at Hoover, being in the California Scholarship Federation, American Cancer Society Youth, and is a proud member of Hoover’s Pep Flags team. Yes, she does love Star Trek. Like a lot. And Doctor Who. And also cows. Congratulations Magy! Your leadership skills have been outstanding (or nah?) and both the club members and officers love you!
