HOOVER HIGH KEY CLUB OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER ISSUE 9 VOLUME II

CNH DISTRICT | REGION 7 | DIVISION 3 SOUTH

INTRODUCTION A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT‌

Hello, Hoover key clubbers! Here we are at the end of another month, flown by so quickly yet again. I have to say that this month held quite a memorable time for probably all of us. For many of us, it may have been the first time to go to Fall Rally, one of key club's biggest events where we gather at Six Flags to show off our passion and enthusiasm for service. In key club, you'll often notice the extent to which companionship exists. We are always here for each other no matter what and through going to events and getting to know one another, we become one big family. It was hard to accept the passing away of our former vice president for many of us who knew her from last year, but it was amazing to see how we could get through such a devastating moment of our lives by holding hands and being there for one another. In a way, each and every one of you can be an inspiration to others. Keep up the good work, key clubbers! I am always proud of you all. Best Regards,

Cherryn Parque Your President

ARTICLES When I first received the flier for the Dorris Place Fall Festival, I was very excited. As I left last year's, I honestly could say that I could not wait for the next one. A combination of food, entertainment, and SERVICE were the recipe of a perfect Key Club event, and this had all three. When I first arrived, I was welcomed with the smiling children, parents, and teachers who all attended to raise funds for their music program; which is one of the key reasons why I decided to spend my Friday night assisting these people preserve such an essential aspect in a young student's development. Music not only brings us joy but it also enlightens us and presents us many wonders and would be very terrible if these students did not possess the instruments and teachers that would make all these possible. In the event, I was assigned various tasks from managing game booths, serving food, and playing with the children. I can say that this year's was as fun as last the previous one and hope that next year's would be twice as fun. It was such a great pleasure serving the parents and children and pleasing to see them laugh and smile and while knowing that it is for a great cause makes this event an incredible experience. – Arbyn Olarte *This event was a John Marshall Key Club Event that was open to other clubs within the division.

VERDUGO WOODLAND FALL FESTIVALS On Saturday the 16th, our members had helped out Verdugo Woodland Elementary School at their Fall Festival. At the event, we helped set up and run some of the booths for kids to play and win prizes. It was a great way to serve our community, even for a little while!

ChildSHARE NEWSLETTER On the first two weekdays of our Thanksgiving break (Monday & Tuesday), we had our key clubbers help out at one of our partnered organizations: ChildSHARE. There, they had us prepare their newsletters for shipping. The event’s time was from 8am-1pm, making it one truly handful event!

FALL RALLY SOUTH 2013

RECOGNITIONS MEMBER OF THE MONTH: Marvin dollano Hoover's Key Club cannot ask for a more fun loving member than Marvin Dollano! Whenever someone asks to do something during an event, he is always the first one to volunteer himself in even when everyone else tries to avoid doing the work. He has done almost every event our president has assigned during the summer, and has been persistent to make up for the ones he does not make by doing his best in the ones he does attend. Not only is he one of our most active members in our club, he dedicates himself into making all of our members feel positive about themselves. He is definitely one to go to, to talk about all your problems; he would listen to anything you have to say and still be able to give you great advice! In school, Marvin also strives to get the best grades, so you can constantly see him studying during his free time. He participates in many of our school's plays, sometimes getting a lead role, and he is also a cherished member of the chamber choir. Marvin continues to inspire everyone he contacts with, and is probably one of the greatest friends you will ever meet.

OFFICER OF THE MONTH: Cherryn Parque Last year as an officer, she aided Jeannie with many of the club’s finances, and was later known as a distinguished treasurer of 2012. Now as a key club president, Cherryn has brought her absolute best onto every event she has assigned. Regardless of being part of many clubs at Hoover, she is still devoted to put key club first, even being absent for an ACSY meeting. During the club rush, because of her, we were able to recruit over 100 people to join the club, and encouraged our officers to participate in a lot more events, raising our numbers through spirit. Thanks to Cherryn, we have been the most successful this year for 2013. Awesome job, Cherryn!
