LEEANN DEMPSTER LEAVES ON A HIGH
O
n Thursday it was announced that Chief Executive Leeann Dempster has decided to leave the club – after more than six busy and successful years at the helm at Easter Road. Leeann, who joined immediately after the club was relegated from the top tier, has enjoyed great success in rebuilding the fortunes of the club, including the historic and long-awaited Scottish Cup triumph in 2016 and returning to the top-flight the following year after winning the Championship, boosting season ticket sales and attendance levels in the process.

HIBERNIANFC.CO.UK
Chairman Ronald J Gordon expressed his disappointment at Leeann’s pending departure but stressed that he understood and supported her decision. He said: “I would have liked Leeann to stay. She has done a terrific job throughout her time at the club and I know how highly regarded she is by every supporter and within football. She has explained that she believes it is the right time for her and for the club that she is ready to pursue a new and different challenge, and that she wants to spend more time with her family.
vs DUNDEE | 27/11 /20
“She has obviously thought long and hard about this and we now have to accept and respect her view. I am happy to say she will work with us to ensure a smooth transition as we decide how to best move forward and thank her for her continued commitment to the club. She has definitely left her mark at Hibernian, and everyone at Hibs should be very grateful to her, I know I am, and all of us wish her every success.” Leeann said: “The club had been relegated when I joined, and I was determined – with the help of a terrific group of people – to rebuild and restore the club to make its supporters proud on and off the pitch. The Cup win was the highlight, of course, but there have been many fantastic moments. “I think it is genuinely the right time, both for the club and for me, to move on to a new chapter. It has been an intense and fulfilling time of my life. I have grown to love the club and the Hibernian family, but the club is in good hands and has an exciting future ahead of it. I wanted to make sure Ron settled in following the transaction, and I think we have achieved that. I’ve enjoyed working with him and I have learned a lot in the process. Supporters should be
optimistic and excited about Ron’s plans for the club’s future, and I know they will continue to support the club in the magnificent fashion that they have done during my time, especially during recent months when they absolutely stepped up when we most needed them. “I thank every one of them for making this job such an enjoyable one. Now I look forward to the excitement of taking on a new challenge.” Leeann was approached and accepted the position in the spring of 2014, when Hibernian was mid-table in the Scottish Premier League. Despite subsequent relegation, she maintained her commitment to come to Easter Road from Motherwell. Ron added: “I know this development will be a surprise to supporters. I can assure them that Leeann has promised to stay in touch and has promised me she will always be available to help me, as she has from my first day at Hibs, with valued advice, guidance and support. I am forever grateful - she will most certainly be missed!”

THE BIG INTERVIEW
STEVIE BRADLEY

vs DUNDEE | 27/11 /20
hile Jack Ross and the Hibernian first team were busy taking on St Johnstone on Tuesday night, a second-string locked horns with Stenhousemuir at Ochilview.
W
Speak to anyone involved on the night – players or staff – and the
chances are they’ll all, unprompted, mention how well 18-year-old winger Stevie Bradley played. The Possil prospect – signed from Queen’s Park in the summer of 2019 – is doing everything he can to catch the eye and build on two recent cameo appearances for the first team.
STEVIE, WHERE DID IT ALL START FOR YOU? Where I stayed, there was a wee playpark football pitch across the road. Every day after school I’d go there. It was one of those mini goals that had a basketball hoop built into it, with a sand surface. Maybe looking back, it helped my touch as the pitch wasn’t the best and it was small, but you don’t care about these things when you’re that age. It’s where everyone went after school. I stayed in Wester Common and the boys who stayed five minutes away, in Panmure Street, would come down to play against us. That got… competitive. WERE YOU ON THE BOOKS OF ANYONE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER? I was with Rangers from the age of eight up until I was around 14/15. Nathan Patterson was in the year above me, but we played together a few times. He’s played a few games for Rangers now and is involved with the Scotland Under-21s. It was tough being let go but I saw it coming. I hadn’t been playing too often and my confidence was low at the time. I was gutted but I wanted to enjoy my football again. I went back to Boys’ Club football for a year and a half and that’s the best thing I could have done. I was playing with my mates and I remember one trip to Norway with them that was a great experience. That helped me get the hunger back. AND THEN CAME QUEEN’S PARK? I was flying again. Queen’s Park asked me in on trial and I wanted to be pushed at that point. They’re well known for bringing through young players. It was hard being in amongst senior players at that age and I was quite slight, but I felt like I did really well in training and I think the manager – Mark Roberts – liked me. I was 16 when they gave me my first-team debut, coming on at Hampden against Elgin City. I was only on the pitch for about 20 minutes, but my legs felt like jelly afterwards. I don’t know if it was nervous energy or just running about too much, but I was exhausted by the end of it. How did the move to Hibs come about? Before my debut we played Hibs in the Scottish Cup for the Under18s. We won 3-1 and I scored a wonder-goal. That helps! After that there was interest. I’d been away in Italy over the summer and when I got back, I was asked if I’d go in to train for a week. After an hour

THE MANAGER HAS BEEN BRILLIANT WITH ME
“
STEVIE BRADLEY ON FIRST TEAM TRAINING OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGR AMME

H I B E R N I A N FO OT B A LL C LU B
Eddie May asked me to sign. He’s been brilliant with me and all the boys. He can be strict and put you in your place when you deserve it, but he can be funny as well. I went through a stage when I wasn’t playing much for the Development Squad last season and I wasn’t at my best – as much as I wanted to be – and he kept me going. I kicked on towards the end of last season and, by March, felt like I maybe had an outside chance of training with the first team. Then everything changed. THE WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN AT THAT POINT. WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH YOUR HEAD? I was so frustrated. I knew I’d been doing well but there’s obviously a bit of you wonders if you’ve missed your chance. I didn’t come back to training straight away with the first-team squad. I was back with the Development Squad, but then the gaffer and John Potter pulled me aside in September and asked me to train with them. That came as a real boost. I did well and I’ve been with them ever since. It’s been a great two months. WHAT HAVE YOU NOTICED ABOUT THE STEP UP? A lot, to be fair. The pace and quality is obviously more intense. It’s a good challenge. I think I’ve done well since I’ve moved up. Being on the bench for a few games has been a great experience. I just want to kick on and try to get in the first team as soon as I can. There are standard-bearers who I can look up to. You might not think it because he’s so laid-back off the pitch, but Joe Newell is competitive in training. Ryan Porteous is the same. The manager’s been brilliant with me. He likes to have a laugh with me and just talks to me about normal stuff, but he’s just as good on the training pitch. He makes sure I keep my feet on the ground. YOU’VE MADE IT OFF THE BENCH TWICE NOW – AGAINST FORFAR AND DUNDEE. HOW MUCH DID THAT MEAN TO YOU? Everything. I hardly touched the ball, but it feels like an important step in the right direction. It was frustrating against Dundee. I’d been stripped for what felt like about six minutes but the ball just wouldn’t go out of play to let me on. I just want to get more minutes under my belt. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS A PLAYER? HIBERNIANFC.CO.UK 12
vs DUNDEE | 27/11 /20
I’m confident. I like to get forward. I’m tricky with good feet and ability. I can pick out a pass. I need to work on my overall conditioning – to get bigger in the gym – and my right foot. For any tricky player, Messi is obviously the ultimate idol in terms of someone to look up to but I also enjoy watching Riyad Mahrez. He plays on the right, likes to cut in and he has a similar build to me. He’s shown that doesn’t have to hold you back. He also had teams reject him early on, so that should give anyone who has been in that position hope. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON? I just want to keep working hard in training to give the manager something to think about. I want to show I’m capable of playing for the first team and do what I can to break in. FINALLY, YOU’RE IN DIGS WITH KEVIN DABROWSKI UNDER THE WATCHFUL EYE OF ALAN BAIN – WHO MAKES SURE THE GRASS PITCHES AT HTC ARE IN GREAT CONDITION. WHAT’S THAT BEEN LIKE FOR A GLASGOW BOY? Alan and his wife, Jenny, have done so much for me. If it wasn’t for them I don’t think I’d have settled in so well at Hibs. They made me feel welcome, it’s always a good laugh and the dinners are something else. Jenny’s fajitas are legendary. Kevin is a bit crazy at times. He’s always on his computer and shouts the whole way through it but he’s a good guy. They’ve all helped me.

THE OPPOSITION
DUNDEE
Today’s game is a case of Dee-ja vu, with the two teams having only just met earlier this month in the Betfred Cup group stage. The draw, which followed the game at Easter Road on Sunday 15 November, quickly teed up this reunion. Dundee gave a good account of themselves in Leith but ultimately lost out 4-1. They followed that up with a 2-0 loss at Ayr United last Saturday. James McPake and his men will be looking to bounce back quickly.
M A NAGER
JAMES MCPAKE James McPake needs no introduction to Hibernian supporters, after two spells at Easter Road as a player. The wholehearted centre-back initially joined on a six-month loan in January 2012 and was named captain on his debut – highlighting the leadership qualities that he brought to the fold. McPake was credited with helping bring out the best in on-loan close friend Leigh Griffiths, and played a major part in the team’s successful battle against relegation that year. A career-ending knee injury led to McPake accelerating plans to move into coaching, and he succeeded Jim McIntyre in the dugout at Dens Park.
C AP TA IN
JORDAN MCGHEE Jordan McGhee will be a familiar face, having worked his way through the ranks at Hearts as a young player. The former Scotland Under-21 defender enjoyed a brief loan stint at Middlesbrough before his time at Tynecastle fizzled out. He moved to Falkirk in August 2017, and picked up the armband there in January 2019. Despite his best efforts, The Bairns were relegated and he moved on to Dundee. Last season he was voted Player of the Year by his fellow team-mates.
K E Y PL AY ER
CHARLIE ADAM Charlie Adam fulfilled a boyhood dream when he agreed a move to Dens Park in the summer on a two-year deal. He may be 34, but the ex-Scotland international has already shown there’s plenty left in his legs, with five goals from eight appearances – including a stunning long-range strike against Hearts. The former Rangers, Liverpool and Stoke City man will be a big influence if Dundee are to mount a successful push for promotion.

Hibernian had to dig in to see off dogged Dundee and seal top spot in our Betfred Cup group. Stevie Mallan scored a trademark thunderbolt to open the scoring, only for Christie Elliott to level things after capitalising on a clever pass from Paul McGowan. Three goals in six minutes ensured any nerves in the home ranks passed. Kevin Nisbet restored The Hibees’ lead before Jamie Gullan and Melker Hallberg got in on the act. Martin Boyle assisted both Gullan and Hallberg’s efforts inside a relentless two-minute spell of pressure. OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGR AMME
