HIBS TV UNVEIL TOP TEAM It’s not just Jack Ross who has made some big-name signings this summer. With supporters unable to join us at Easter Road for the moment, we wanted to do everything we could to make sure you still have something to look forward to on a matchday until we can get you back where you belong. That includes a revamped Hibs TV, which will improve the experience for domestic, international and season ticket subscribers alike as we take you behind the scenes like never before. Our new-look matchday coverage will be presented by David Tanner – one of the most recognisable, respected figures on the Scottish sports broadcasting scene for more than 20 years. David’s professional life has taken him from covering the domestic game to the heights of the Champions League – charged with going toe to toe with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Pele, not to mention Martin Boyle earlier this week… Around a busy charity fundraising, conference and event-hosting schedule, he’s also been flying the flag for Scottish football on TalkSPORT of late. On top of that, as a local lad, David is passionate about Edinburgh and showcasing the best of what this city – our city – has to offer, alongside his work as a lecturer at Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Creative Industries. With his experience and enthusiasm, we are delighted to have David on board to front The Match. He said: “I’m really excited to get started with Hibs TV, at a time when the club is determined to take things to the next level on and off the park. It’s a club with heart, that likes to entertain and play a big part in its community. There are stories to tell here and the start of the season can’t come soon enough.” David’s sidekick on a weekly basis needs little introduction. Tam McManus will be taking that devilish smile of his to a Hibs TV screen near you. A Hibernian Academy graduate who lived the dream by playing and scoring in the green and white – Tam always had plenty to say for himself and he won’t be holding back as our guest and co-commentator. Tam said: “Everyone knows what Hibernian means to me. Like everyone else I’ve really missed my football and I’m looking forward to the new season. Hibs have a top manager in Jack Ross and have made some really good signings. It has all the makings of a really exciting season.” Keeping Tam in check will be our commentator, Cliff Pike. ‘The Voice of Hibernian’ was one of the founding members of the trailblazing Hibernian Interactive, which was the first incarnation of what is now Hibs TV back in 2002. Cliff – who also memorably called the Scottish Cup triumph in 2016 – said: “It doesn’t matter how many games I’ve commented on at Easter Road. It’s always a privilege. A dream come true. “Hibs TV has come a long way from those early days, and we owe a lot to the late Stuart Crowther and the other people who have helped make it what it is over the years. Now, more than ever, we have a duty to give supporters a service they can be proud of.” 50 4 H IHBIEBRENRINAINAFNCF.C C.O C.O U.KU K
v sH IKBI L EM RN A IRANNOFCOKO| T0B1A/ L 0 L8 /C2 L0U 2B 0 Joining the team for today’s opener is Hibernian Women captain and Hibees diehard Joelle Murray. Joelle said: “I’m delighted to get the chance to be part of the new Hibs TV team for the launch of The Match and even more excited to help kick off the new season. “We all love the club and I don’t think any of us ever took it for granted, but the last few months have demonstrated what a big part Hibernian plays in our life. “It might be a while before everything’s back to normal – and that can’t come soon enough – but, in the meantime, there’s a team to cheer on again.” Through the week you’ll get a look behind the scenes at HTC, with exclusive content from Jack and the players – plus a host of stories from across the Hibernian community. As part of The Match – our home game production – viewers will enjoy a half-hour build-up with David, Tam and a rotating cast of familiar faces, alongside some no-holds-barred half-time coverage and a post-match round-up. Season ticket holders and international subscribers will be able to see every kick of the ball at Easter Road live, with domestic supporters having access to an upgraded audio-only offering. International subscribers will also – for the first time – have access to every top-flight stadium, with every league game now available to view, complete with our own green-tinted commentary from Cliff and Tam. We won’t be talking at you. There will be plenty of opportunities for supporters to get involved. Watch this space… We’re back with our regular technical partner, Stream Digital, who have teamed up with 11 of the 12 Premiership teams for this season. Stream Digital have invested heavily and spent the summer ensuring their servers are equipped to handle an increased audience across the league and globe. Joining us this year are QTV – an award-winning multimedia production company who have a long, successful track record in bringing a whole range of live sporting events to life. We think you’ll notice a difference. Season ticket holders will get free and full access to Hibs TV for as long as we can’t get supporters into Easter Road Stadium. With the enhanced product, more content and more games for international subscribers there will be an increase in the pricing to reflect this. Season ticket holders will get the matches for free as well as free access to Hibs TV until we are back at full capacity. Our domestic subscription package is set at £7.99 a month and £79.99 for an annual pass. For international subscribers, it’s £17.99 a month or £179.99 for the year.
HOME STRIP UPDATE Good news! We have started the process of dispatching the pre-ordered 2020-21 home kits. You’ll receive an email advising when your order has been dispatched and will also receive a tracking number for your parcel via email/text from Royal Mail. For those who have selected the ‘collect in-store’ option, you’ll receive an email once your order is ready to be collected from the Clubstore. Please take this with you – or have proof of address and your order number – upon collection. We would ask that you please do not come to the Clubstore to collect your order unless you have received your email, as we will not be able to assist you. If you’ve pre-ordered the 2020-21 infant home kit, there is a slight delay with the arrival of these items. They’re currently having our Thank You NHS transfer applied and are expected to arrive within the next two weeks. Once we’ve cleared the home kit pre-orders, we’ll move immediately to fulfilling the away kit pre-orders, as quickly as possible. We’d like to thank you, once again, for supporting the club through the pre-order of our 2020-21 kits, and for your patience and understanding in these unprecedented times. It’s greatly appreciated.

THE BIG INTERVIEW
By his own admission, Joe Newell endured a sluggish start to life at Easter Road. His team-mates and coaching staff knew they had a talent on their hands, but the former Rotherham man just didn’t do himself justice in some early run-outs that led to more than a few writing him off. However, by the time the season was cut short, Joe had more than shown himself to be an intelligent, creative force in a variety of positions and a real threat with his set-piece deliveries. Having overcome a niggling heel injury, he wants to hit the ground running this term. JOE, EVERY PLAYER IS GOING TO GET THIS QUESTION FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS. HOW DID YOU COPE WITH A PRE-SEASON UNLIKE ANY OTHER? To be honest, pre-season has been similar in terms of the timescale and – apar t from the odd thing with health and safety protocols – training hasn’t really been impacted either. 10
HIBERNIANFC.CO.UK
JOE NEWELL
I was still recovering from my injury when the lads were training in small groups, when it was still non-contact, so by the time I came back everything was kind of back to normal. The only difference is that we’re still not all changing together in the same room but it’s been fine. I see enough of the rest of the boys! The strangest thing is not being able to interact with suppor ters the same way in person and obviously they won’t be at the games to begin with. We’ve played a few closed-door bounce games before, so it wasn’t completely alien to us, but it will be strange running out against Kilmarnock knowing that the place is usually packed out with screaming Hibees. We just need to remember that we’re still playing for the suppor ters and still playing for those three points, whatever the surroundings are like.
YOU’RE VERY HONEST ABOUT HOW FRUSTRATING THE START OF LAST SEASON WAS FOR YOU. WHAT ARE YOU HOPING FOR THIS TIME ROUND? This time last year the new signings took a bit of stick and it was frustrating. I was more frustrated at myself than anything. I just knew I wasn’t playing as well as I should have been but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. It was just a slow couple of months to star t with, but I’ve been here a year now and feel better and more at home. So I’m presuming and hoping I will be better than I was at the star t of last season. The majority of us are settled now. Did I win people over? Maybe, yes, but personally I was playing better than I had been so they had a point. I was enjoying it and playing regularly in my preferred central position. THE BIG INTERVIEW
WE KNOW YOU’RE PROGRAMMED TO SAY YOU’LL TAKE IT ONE GAME AT A TIME, BUT WHAT SHOULD OUR TARGETS BE THIS SEASON?
Seriously, though, look at his record since then. He’s been on fire and was probably the most in-form striker in the country. I think if it hadn’t been for the virus and the stop in play that he would have got a Wales call-up.
For me, we have to be targeting European qualification and at least one good run in the cups. I think we have a squad good enough to be competing at the higher end of the table.
Sometimes that kind of change in fortune happens and there’s no reason for it. Christian was doing the same things that he was doing all season – working hard for the team and getting himself into good positions.
We have a great opportunity to do well and there’s still the semi-final of last season’s Scottish Cup to look forward to. From what I’ve seen in pre-season we have a stronger group than this time last year. The new signings look very good and the young lads who have come in to train with us have looked good as well. Pre-season has been very good, in my eyes.
WHAT DO YOU PUT THAT DOWN TO? It’s hard to say. I wasn’t here before the start of the last pre-season but I feel a lot more comfortable and a lot more at home than I did last season. Since the gaffer has come in there’s been a lot more positivity and we have been doing better. We have to take that into the new season.
YOUR CLOSE PAL CHRISTIAN DOIDGE WAS ANOTHER WHO DIDN’T HIT THE GROUND RUNNING BUT, LIKE YOU, ENDED UP AS ONE OF OUR MOST INFLUENTIAL PLAYERS. DO YOU EXPECT ANOTHER BIG SEASON FROM HIM? For sure. We’ll never let Christian forget those missed chances away at Aberdeen…

I’m just glad he got the breaks in the end that he deserved and he became a real favourite for the suppor ters. It just shows you that if you’re going through a rough patch then it only has to be temporary.
DO YOU HAVE A MESSAGE FOR THE SUPPORTERS? NOT LEAST THE SEASON TICKET HOLDERS WHO WILL BE READING THIS. Just thank you, basically, on behalf of everyone at the club – not just the players. Football means so much to people and it’s been ripped away from supporters – not being able to see their friends, go for a pre-match drink and get along to the stadium. But that hasn’t stopped people buying season tickets, strips and donating in other ways. Hibs fans have been unbelievable all summer and we really want to give something back on the pitch. A few of the boys have said it but we’re looking forward to the day when we get everyone back in the stands. We’ve been telling the new boys that Easter Road is a special place to play when it’s packed out and everyone’s singing Sunshine on Leith. It’s something to look forward to. In the meantime, we have a job to do.
“
HIBS FANS HAVE BEEN UNBELIEVABLE ALL SUMMER AND WE REALLY WANT TO GIVE SOMETHING BACK ON THE PITCH.

KILMARNOCK THERE WERE A LOT OF SIMILARITIES BETWEEN HIBERNIAN AND KILMARNOCK LAST TERM, WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS IN PRE-SEASON NOT QUITE TRANSLATING INTO A CAMPAIGN TO REMEMBER FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS. HAVING BEEN BUSY IN THE TRANSFER MARKET, KILLIE ARE HOPING FOR A RETURN TO THE KIND OF MOMENTUM THEY’D BUILT UP UNDER STEVE CLARKE. M A NAGE R
ALEX DYER
A popular figure as Steve Clarke’s assistant at Rugby Park, there were few complaints when the Englishman – who is also part of the Scotland national team setup – was promoted to replace Angelo Alessio. While he didn’t enjoy the fabled ‘new manager bounce’ – with 10 points taken from an available 36 – there were no shortage of positive soundbites from players who felt that a bit of harmony had been restored behind the scenes. It’s now time to turn plaudits into points.

GARY DICKER
Gary Dicker has long since shown himself to be an inspired signing and the heartbeat of the Kilmarnock team. A powerhouse performer in the heart of their midfield alongside Alan Power, it’s not exaggerating things to say that if you want to beat Killie you have to find a way to win that battle in the engine room. He’s had a few issues with injuries of late but Alex Dyer will be glad of his influence on and off the park. 20

Hibernian weathered both Storm Dennis and a late Kilmarnock onslaught to claim three vital points in a 2-1 victory at Rugby Park. Greg Docherty (above) opened the scoring through a moment of stunning individual brilliance with a powerful curling strike on 28 minutes. Chris Burke levelled for the home side two minutes later, before Adam Jackson netted his second goal in as many games to give Hibs the lead heading into the break. Kilmarnock threw everything at the Hibs defence in the second half but a resilient display saw the Easter Road side claim the three points. The win left Hibernian one point behind 5th placed Livingston - and five behind Motherwell and Aberdeen in the race for European football. O F F I C I A L M AT C H D AY P R O G R A M M E
