THE EDITOR

THE

EDITOR GOOD AFTERNOON AND A WARM WELCOME BACK TO AINSLIE PARK FOR THE FINAL TIME THIS SEASON.

I

think it would be fair to say that the last couple of weeks in Scottish Women's Football have laid bare a number of issues which must be addressed in the off-season. It would be easy for me to look at last Sunday and dedicate this column to highlighting more faults. However I am determined to resist that temptation and end the season on a high note.

we have had recruiting someone with the necessary filming and editing experience required to offer the quality of video that I feel would be representative of this club. There are changes afoot on this front and training is on-going. I want to hit the ground running in this area next season and it is a key point on my improvements plan.

This is the final match programme of the season. It is the thirteenth issue that I have overseen and while it has been an absolute joy to work on over the course of the year I'm glad it's the last one!

Speaking of improvements I want to extend my thanks to David Ronney who joined the team midway through the season. David has utilised his talent as a journalist and social media knowledge to complete overhaul our Twitter and Instagram accounts. He has brought with him a high standard of professionalism and passion for improving our media content. He also regularly contributes multiple pieces to this programme and has laid the foundations for what is to come.

The process of putting the programme together relies heavily on input from so many people. Like every other aspect of Hibernian Ladies it is a true team effort to bring you this publication. Therefore I must thank the regular contributors for their dedication and hard work over the last year to helping make this the success it has been. I also want to thank all of the players who have given up their own time to feature in 'The Big Interview' which really have been the heartbeat of these programmes. I'm not beyond criticism and I want to be the first to put my hand up and say that we have failed to deliver this season in a few areas. I regularly get asked about video content and I have indicated previously that it would happen. Unfortunately that has not been the case and that has simply come as a consequence of the difficulties

Finally I'd like to thank our supporters who follow on social media and attend our matches. Your backing is invaluable and everyone associated with the club appreciates all the effort you make to follow the club. I hope to see as many familiar faces as possible at Tynecastle later this month. Enjoy the match today!

GRANT

SCOTT WELCOME TO AINSLIE PARK FOR THE FINAL HOME MATCH OF THE SEASON AGAINST STIRLING UNIVERSITY.

O

n what is our last home match evident on the day as we missed a couple and programme of the season, as of great opportunities and were a bit always it’s the best time to thank wasteful with our final pass at times and every supporter who has attended and the flip side is that City were more clinical given support to our fantastic players. on the day. I felt a draw would have been Some longer journeys for away matches a fairer result but you can’t rely on these too, with a hard-core travelling to Slovenia things and we should have done better in and Prague this year, you have been creating chances and not being caught on incredible. Player sponsors, we hope the break so easily I think for two of City’s goals. But there were many positives that the individuals and team have given you we’ll take into the cup final pride to be associated with on the 24th and the game them, we thank you for your support. Also, the team " IT’S A BIT SAD FOR certainly holds no fear for us. We have a couple of league behind the team who give ME PERSONALLY games to play before then up their own time to support TO SEE STIRLING and then we’ll focus on the the squad, coaches, physios, final but we’ve see enough admin, media team and UNIVERSITY IN last week to know we have a our chaplain. Unfortunately THEIR CURRENT chance to win and retain the for you all, I have to do the PREDICAMENT AS trophy. And what a terrific talky bit at the front but venue to have a cup final there’s a dedicated bunch I SPENT HALF A Tynecastle Park, we have of individuals who look after SEASON AS COACH Hearts and Hibs fans in the your players throughout the THERE WHERE WE side so it’ll be special for us year who deserve huge credit for what they do and again FINISHED 4TH IN THE all to play there but only if we win! now seems a good time to LEAGUE." say my thanks for all their Today we face Stirling for support. However, we’re not the last time this season. done yet, so lets focus on the Obviously Stirling have coming games with a quick look back to struggled a little this season and a win last weekend. for us will see them relegated but that is something we have to clear from our I felt overall, the team played some minds and focus on the two wins to secure great football against City and were very second place again this season which is still unfortunate with the 3-1 scoreline. The a great achievement by the players despite difference between creating and taking not being our original aim. Despite their chances against the best teams was

THE MANAGER

league position we’ve generally found it tricky to open Stirling up as early in games as I’d have liked this season so I’m looking for the players to impose themselves early in the game and play some attractive football again. It’s a bit sad for me personally to see Stirling in their current predicament as I spent half a season as coach there where we finished 4th in the league but with a team made up with a lot of student athletes it can be difficult to maintain stability and quality but its sorry to see and I wish everyone connected all the very best whatever happens.

There are many faces in the first team that have ‘graduated’ via the 23s/dev team over the years and every coach, support staff and player deserves huge credit for the development of some of the country’s best young talent over the years. Some players will leave the club but we’ve hand selected a few to promote to the first team for the new season and some others who we’ll allow the opportunity to train with us and confirm our belief that they have the talent to progress and force their way into the squad so we’re hopeful you’ll see them in action in due course.

Briefly touching on our last match which is away from home in two weeks up in Forfar, will be the last match before the cup final. As I said above, I’m looking to win the last two league matches of the season and finish in second spot regardless of results elsewhere, but I expect so close to the cup final the players will be buzzing and trying to claim their spot for the final. We’ll have to be mindful that it will be a different match from the last one we played against Forfar, they will be more relaxed probably being safe from relegation so will pose a different prospect but as always we’ll take the game to them and try to play some fast attacking football and finish with a flurry.

But thanks should go to everyone involved staff & players for their commitment to the club.

Unfortunately the past 10-days has seen the confirmation that our U23 side will cease to exist due to league reconstruction.

10

Enjoy the last home match of the season.

KEY MOMENT

With Hibs trailing by a goal Shannon McGregor beat Lee Alexander to a cross and turned the ball into the net. Unfortunately it hit Jamie-Lee Napier on the way in to the open goal and was given offside.

FIRST GOAL CRITICAL

The last time a team came from behind to win this fixture was all the way back in the 2016 SWPL Cup Final where Lucy Graham cancelled out Julie Fleeting's opener and Lizzie Arnot hit a stoppage time winner.

THE GAFFER

"Obviously the result is very disappointing. We set out to win the game but have not managed to do that. Far from being overall disappointed with the result I thought we took the game to City, control periods of the game. They went 2-0 up, it made it difficult for us. I felt at 1-0 the game was still there to be won if I'm honest. We acquitted ourselves much better than the game in August."

WHO SAID WHAT?

“It was a tough one to take. There were quite a few debatable calls from the referee but had we taken our chances it would have been a closer game. COLETTE CAVANAGH

PRESS REACTION

"Glasgow City, who secured the title midweek went ahead on 16 minutes after Clare Shine finished off a fine team move. Megan Foley added a second midway through the second half, before Colette Cavanagh pulled one back for the home side with seventeen minutes remaining." SHEKICKS.NET

THE BIG INTERVIEW - JOELLE MURRAY

JOELLE

MURRAY THE CAPTAIN DISCUSSES HER LONG CAREER PLAYING FOR THE CLUB SHE SUPPORTS AND HER WORK AS GIRLS ACADEMY MANAGER. Joelle, you’ve spent the entirety of your career so far playing for Hibernian. How has it been playing for the club?

myself and my family very proud.

JM: I’ve absolutely loved my time at the club, I’ve seen it evolve so much in the 15+ years I’ve been here and it’s fantastic to see that year on year the support on and off the pitch is increasing. Being a Hibernian fan playing and having the opportunity to captain the team I support is really a dream come true for me.

" IT WAS ALL A BIT OF A BLUR TO BE HONEST. WHEN I FIRST JOINED THE CLUB ALTHOUGH WE WORE THE CLUB CREST AND COLOURS WE HAD NO AFFILIATION TO THE CLUB ITSELF. NONETHELESS IT WAS A HIBERNIAN STRIP I WAS WEARING ON MATCH DAYS."

How did it feel when you made your debut for the club? JM: It was all a bit of a blur to be honest. When I first joined the club although we wore the club crest and colours we had no affiliation to the club itself. Nonetheless it was a Hibernian strip I was wearing on match days and that made

You scored an impressive free kick against Rangers a few

weeks back but how did it feel when that first goal for the club hit the back of the net? JM: I can’t remember, my

memory is terrible! Ask me what I did last week and I won’t be able to tell you. However I’m sure that it was a great feeling, as is any goal I’ve scored for Hibernian. You also became the Hibernian Girls Academy Manager just over two years ago. How have the last few years been for yourself in this role? JM: It’s been a pretty testing period, when I first came into the role there wasn’t really a pathway and teams were working in silos essentially doing what they wanted. There is now an extensive pathway with player resources on and off the pitch where the coaches and players are following a club/academy ethos which I personally think is so important to have in place. To give some insight, what is your typical

21

THE BIG INTERVIEW - JOELLE MURRAY

day on the job? What responsibilities would you deal with in the academy setup? JM: A day on the job can vary to be honest. My job remit is very wide scale, from dealing with social media to coaches CPD and player development plans. Most of my communication and contact with players, parents and coaches is over email or phone due to the fact the coaches are essentially volunteers and the academy training nights fall on the same nights as my own training. I also liaise with local schools and co-ordinators to see what girls football related activities we can run. It’s so important that this contact awareness is raised at a young level because it will ultimately help the women’s and girls game grow long term. Some players in the squad balance a career or studies with their footballing career. What is this balance like for yourself? JM: I’m obviously lucky because I work in a football environment and my employers appreciate and allow flexibility for my own training and

22

commitments through that. However flip side is I can’t switch off. I’ve struggled to separate academy and “work” related football with my own football. This

extend to on the field, what’s it like to captain Hibernian? JM: Captaining Hibernian is an absolute honour and privilege. I never dreamed that I would play for Hibs when I was younger so to captain the team was and still is something I’m very proud of. Having spent your entire club career so far in Scotland, how do you feel the professional scene has changed in that time? JM: The game in Scotland is still classed as amateur however the progress made from when I first started women’s football to now is absolutely night and day. We have so many good people working in the women’s game and constantly striving for more on and off the pitch. The standards are continually improving every season and we are making big steps towards a professional environment.

is something I need to get better with because at the moment it’s 24/7 football.

When were you first introduced to football and did you play for your school team?

Your responsibilities with the club also

and I was mesmerised after going to one of his games. My obsession and love for the game started then when I was about five. I grew up in the Borders and typically it was Hockey for girls and Rugby for boys. My teachers wanted me to play hockey however I was adamant football was the one for me. I played for my high school team when football was eventually offered as an option to girls. Can you give us an insight into the early days of your football career? What was the first club that you joined and at what age? JM: I played for my local boys team Chirnside Juniors and then Coldstream up until the age of thirteen when at that time you could no longer play mixed football. As well as playing competitive games with those clubs I also played 5 a-sides. We played in Celtic kits and were known to be the team to beat at various local tournaments. You’ve played as a defender during your time at the club, but did you play other positions growing up?

JM: I started out as a right sided midfielder or more traditional winger as David Beckham was my idol growing up and I wanted to be just like him. I then played centre midfield before being moved back to play in defence at centre half.

"THE GLASGOW CITY GAME WAS FRUSTRATING FOR US. I FEEL WE WERE THE BETTER TEAM FOR LARGE SPELLS OF THE GAME. UNFORTUNATELY THE 3-1 SCORELINE MAKES IT SOUND LIKE IT WAS ALL ONE-SIDED HOWEVER IN MY OPINION THAT REALLY WASN’T THE CASE." Hibernian are through to another Scottish Cup final against last weekend’s opponents, Glasgow City. How does it feel to reach another final with this group of players?

JM: it’s fantastic to reach another cup final, we have a proud record in this competition which stretches back over three years and are looking to keep the winning run going. While the team has changed over that time the values of the club and the determination to keep our streak going have never changed. Unfortunately, a streak of ten wins in a row domestically came to an end with that 3-1 defeat against the SWPL 1 champions. Now that some time has passed, what do you take away from the game? JM: The Glasgow City game was frustrating for us. I feel we were the better team for large spells of the game. Unfortunately the 3-1 scoreline makes it sound like it was all one-sided however in my opinion that really wasn’t the case. We were in the game right up until the third goal went in at the end and if not for a bit of bad fortune, on another day, we could and probably should have been level moments before that. A different challenge ahead this weekend with Stirling University

25

26

"THE WORLD CUP IN MY OPINION IS THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS TOURNAMENT IN WORLD FOOTBALL SO TO BE A PART OF ONE WAS SOMETHING I COULD NEVER HAVE IMAGINED. ALTHOUGH I DIDN’T PLAY I’M PROUD TO SAY I MADE HISTORY ALONG WITH 22 OTHER PLAYERS IN THE SQUAD AS WE REPRESENTED SCOTLAND ON THE WORLD STAGE FOR THE FIRST TIME."

THE BIG INTERVIEW - JOELLE MURRAY

travelling to Ainslie Park. Sunday’s visitors look like they may go down this season and will need three points to avoid relegation. What do you expect from them this weekend? JM: Stirling University are still fighting to stay up so I’d expect a different approach from them this weekend. Previously they have sat in and tried to stay compact however their priorities will have changed and they need all three points to avoid relegation. If they want to win then I think they will have to play more expansive attacking football and that is hopefully something that we can exploit. It’s also the final home game of the season. Of course, we will be back in Edinburgh for the SSE Scottish Cup final later this month but how has the home support been this season? JM: The support has been great, it’s fantastic to see fans come to our games week in and week out. I've also enjoyed the opportunity to meet a few of our competition winners over the last few weeks. Hopefully

28

we have been able to inspire people to tell their friends to come along and increase the support going into next season. Looking back at the campaign so far, what are the moments that stand out for yourself?

"I THINK THE SLOVENIA UEFA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TRIP WAS DEFINITELY A HIGH. THE TEAM COHESION ON AND OFF THE PITCH WAS INCREDIBLE AND THAT WAS APPARENT IN OUR PERFORMANCES AGAINST THREE VERY TOUGH OPPONENTS." JM: I think the Slovenia UEFA Women's Champions League trip was definitely a high. The team cohesion on and off the pitch was incredible and that was apparent in our performances

against three very tough opponents in WFC Nike, Cardiff Met and the hosts Pomurje Beltinci. Other than that it would of course have to be the Premier League Cup win on penalties against Glasgow City back in May. Moving over to Scotland, you’ve made 48 appearances for your country. How does it feel when you pull on that Scotland jersey? JM: Wearing the Scotland jersey is something that fills me with great pride. Words can’t explain how I feel when I'm standing there with the team and I hear the national anthem pre-match. You and Jenna Fife were a part of the squad that went to France for the World Cup in the summer. How was it to be part of a group at a major tournament? JM: The World Cup in my opinion is the most prestigious tournament in world football so to be a part of one was something I could never have imagined. Although I didn’t play I’m proud to say I made history along with 22 other players in the squad as we represented Scotland on the world stage for the

first time. Looking slightly further back into your youth years with Scotland, in 2005 you played in every qualifier and travelled to Hungary as Scotland reached the finals of the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship for the first time. What was it like when playing within Scotland’s youth setup? JM: I loved the youth set up, it was completely different to what it’s like at A-Squad level. We were the first Scotland Under 19’s to make a finals and to do it with a lot of my friends and team mates made it extra special. There are some players in the Hibernian squad who have just wrapped up or still enjoying the Scotland call in the youth department. How beneficial is it for them to be able to go away with Scotland and have competitive games against nations across Europe and rest of the world? JM: It's so beneficial, it gives them an opportunity to challenge themselves against a different opposition in a different environment

while playing with a different set of players to what they are used to week in, week out. It's a huge learning experience for them and it's part of a process that will help them to improve their game to become better players. With regards to youth

"WITH ONLY A HANDFUL OF GAMES LEFT MY MOTIVATION FOR THE REST OF THIS SEASON NOW IS WINNING THE SSE SCOTTISH CUP. IT'S THE BIGGEST GAME LEFT OF THE SEASON AND I'D LOVE TO RETAIN THE TROPHY WITH A WIN OVER GLASGOW CITY." in general, this is a relatively young Hibernian squad and as a result has seen yourself being one of the more senior members of the group. Do you feel a responsibility to lead this group at times, not only as captain

but to lead by example with the experience you have playing for Hibernian? JM: I do in some sense however although the other girls are somewhat younger in age they are mature for their years so I don’t need to keep them in line too often! There have been multiple nominations for Hibernian in the Scottish Women’s Football Awards 2019 nominations. One of which is for SWPL Team of the Year. How delighted are you with this nomination and the numerous others? JM: It’s great to be nominated for this award for the second year In a row, the team deserve the recognition for all their hard work and achievements so far. It's also good for the individuals to be recognised as well. JamieLee and Rachael have been outstanding this season while it's also nice to see different faces get recognition such as Cav who is up for the goal of the season award. Do you have any personal goals or objectives for the remainder of this

31

THE BIG INTERVIEW - JOELLE MURRAY

season? JM: I try to always be working towards something. With only a handful of games left my motivation for the rest of this season now is winning the SSE Scottish Cup. It's the biggest game left of the season and I'd love to retain the trophy with a win over Glasgow City. Most people have a club that they support. What team do you follow and why? JM: Hibernian. My Dad is a massive Hibee and I have been going to games at Easter Road with him since I was young so that’s a nice tradition to maintain. Everyone loves a bit of fashion and these days boots are no exception. What is your choice of footwear on the pitch this season? JM: I wear Adidas boots which were actually given to me by Arsenal's Vivienne Miedema! Obviously, you are still young and have years of playing time ahead of you, but have you made any plans to get involved in coaching or other aspects of football that would

32

see you potential stay involved after you finish playing? JM: I’ve already got my UEFA B Licence so it’s obviously something I have a passion for. When I retire I still want to stay In the game in some capacity.

"THE BEST PLAYERS THAT I HAVE EVER PLAYED ALONGSIDE WOULD HAVE TO BE EX HIBERNIAN STARS KIM LITTLE, WHO IS NOW AT ARSENAL AND CAROLINE WEIR WHO NOW PLAYS FOR MANCHESTER CITY, BOTH IN THE WSL." Who are the best players you have played alongside and against? JM: The best players that I have ever played alongside would have to be ex Hibernian stars Kim Little, who is now at Arsenal and Caroline Weir who now plays for

Manchester City. On the other hand the best players I've come up against would be Julie Fleeting at Glasgow City and Vivienne Miedema who I faced when she played for Bayern Munich here in the Champions League and is now a team mate of Kim Little's at Arsenal. Can you tell us something about yourself that we don't know? JM: I used to be Border junior champion at lawn bowls. Who is the most famous person you have ever met? JM: Simon Cowell Music. Lia seems to like taking charge of the tunes on the bus but who do you enjoy listening to and what is the best gig you have ever been to? JM: I enjoy a little bit of anything. The best gig I’ve been to is probably Adele at the Usher Hall.

SWNT SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT Hibernian Ladies duo, Jenna Fife and Rachael Boyle have been named in the Scotland squad for their upcoming UEFA Women’s EURO 2021 qualifying match. They travel to Albania in the first week of November where they’ll take on the hosts on Friday 8 November. Shelley Kerr’s squad historically secured their World Cup qualification in Albania in September last year.

LORD PROVOST MEETING

HIBERNIAN RETURN TO U19 NP LEVEL

It’s a return to the squad for Rachael Boyle who last appeared for the national side in January 2018 before missing much of last season through pregnancy.

Hibernian Ladies senior squad are set to meet with the Lord Provost at a special event hosted at the City Chambers on Wednesday November 6th.

Boyle says she’s delighted to be back involved but admitted it came as a bit of a surprise so soon after giving birth last year.

The event provides a wonderful opportunity to promote and increase the awareness of the women's game and Hibernian Ladies while strengthening relationships both with politicians and the local council. Updates will provided on Social Media.

With the change in SWF rules with regards to U23 Development teams playing in the lower tiers of the senior game, a new U19 NP squad will be created for the 2020 season. This squad will consist of a number of players who meet the qualifying criteria from the existing U23 squad, as well as a number of new players. We look forward to bringing you further news on the new team as it develops ahead of the new 2020 season.

She said: “I’m delighted to be back involved. I’ve been in and out of the squad for a number of reasons over the years so hopefully I can try and keep my place in the squad. “This is my first season back from being out of the game for a while, so I don’t feel like I am fully at my best, but I certainly didn’t think that I’d be back playing and getting selected for Scotland again so quickly after giving birth. “It’s always a special moment representing your country.” Good luck to Jenna, Rachael and the Scotland team from everyone at Easter Road!

STIRLING UNIVERSITY

I

t has been an incredibly tough season for Stirling University having managed to secure only two points from nineteen matches in the SWPL1 with draws against fellow strugglers Forfar Farmington. Their sole victory this year came in the first round of the SWPL Cup as they beat Glasgow Girls 2-1. Stirling's SWPL1 survival hopes were heavily placed on last Friday's showdown against Forfar Farmington at Ochilview. Despite the looking the better team for large parts of the match they couldn't put the ball in the net and were eventually punished as Forfar won 2-0. The result means Stirling must win at Ainslie Park this afternoon to keep their slim hopes of escaping the drop into SWPL2 alive to the final day of the season.

Today's fixture is the fifth competitive match this season between the sides but despite two previous home games this will be the first at Ainslie Park with the previous fixtures hosted at Peffermill and Penicuik. Hibernian have netted 18 times in those four game with Stirling yet to reply. A hugely different Stirling University team is expected to arrive at Ainslie Park this afternoon. The arrival of new students at the University has meant a number of changes to the squad that Hibs faced at Penicuik in the SSE Scottish Cup back in August. Craig Beveridge will be hoping to take something positive from these last few matches as he prepares to rebuild his team for what he will now expect to be a tough SWPL2 campaign next year.

THE OPPOSITION - STIRLING UNIVERSITY

18 DEMI FALCONER

Defender has stepped up to become the new club captain.

1 CLAIRE WHITAKER

The new number one at Stirling University has stepped up to playing SWPL1 football after spending the first half of the season playing in the SWPL2 at Hutchison Vale.

23 CLAIRE PETERSON

Scholar has impressed with her pace since arriving from US.

10 EMMA LYONS

Long serving midfielder who returned from Hamilton.

13 CRAIG BEVERIDGE

With majority of his squad made up of students it would be a surprise to see Beveridge lose too many players should Stirling be relegated to SWPL2 next season. With the drop looking a certain Beveridge may shift focus to the University BUCS competition before preparing his squad for a promotion push.

ELLIE SIMPSON

The hard-working defender was recently installed as captain of Stirling's BUCS team. Quick and tough to beat she has proven a real test when occupying a full back position.

7 GEMMA MASON

Midfielder who progressed from the development squad.

14 KIM GUTHRIE

Winger who has stayed with the club since her university days.

LAST MEETING HIBERNIAN 5 STIRLING UNIVERSITY 0

A wet evening at Penicuik Park saw over 300 spectators turn out for a mid-week SSE Scottish Cup tie. A flowing Hibernian move finished off by Colette Cavanagh opened the scoring which was doubled by an own goal before half-time. As the rain came down heavy in the second half, Ellis Notley and Siobhan Hunter both added headers from corners before a stunning Colette Cavanagh solo effort from the edge of the box completed the scoring to set up a fourth round Edinburgh derby against Hearts.

he Hibernian U23 Development squad finished their season with a thrilling 4-4 draw away to promotion chasing Queens Park. Hibs opened the scoring through Dickov. The midfielder was played in on the right hand side of the penalty box and finished beautifully at the near post, off the under side of the bar. Queens Park were level shortly after. A free kick on the edge of the area was delivered low into the near post where the unfortunate Donald turned the ball beyond Yates to bring the Spiders level. Much like the midweek match at Hibernian Training Centre, the game really came to life in the second period. Adams restored Hibernian's lead shortly after the break, getting across the front of her marker to head home a cross from Smith. Only three minutes later it was Aitchison's turn to add her name to the score-sheet and give Hibs a little breathing room. Her

wonderfully struck free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box found the far corner of the net to put Hibs 3-1 up.

The game should have been over on 90 minutes with Aitchison rounding the keeper to restore Hibs two goal advantage however a dramatic few minutes of stoppage time saw Queens Park secure the point that they needed for promotion. First Ferns lashed the ball beyond the outstretched dive of Yates from the edge of the area to bring Queens Park back to within a goal. Then Hibernian again fell

foul to a set piece. This time Yates failed to claim the ball in, only to see it drop right on the head of Ray on the goal line to bring the scores level at 4-4. While it was a disappointing end to a match where Hibernian U23 created more than enough chances to win it still saw the team finish on an eight match unbeaten run that secured third spot in the SWFL 1 South. The close of the season now sees the end of the Hibernian U23 squad with new SWF rules for the 2020 season preventing development level teams competing in the senior

44

leagues. This will see seven of the twelve sides currently competing in SWFL1 disappear with only Boroughmuir, Renfrew, Blackburn and Ayr eligible to apply for the new SWF Championship South division. Sadly for a number of players this means that their time at Hibernian has now come to an end. The club would like to wish all players who are departing the best for the future. As the door closes on the U23 project it is important to reflect on the successes of the programme over the years. The team has produced a number of

players for the Hibernian first team including recent additions such as Kirsty Morrison and Shannon Leishman, While that pathway has now been closed by the SWF, Hibernian will endeavour to continue to develop young talents through the Hibernian Girls Academy to first team level. The coaching staff would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for your support of Hibs U23 over the years and we all hope to have your continued support at Hibernian Girls Academy fixtures when the new season starts early next year.

he SHAAP U15 National Performance team resumed action last weekend with a friendly fixture arranged against Dryburgh U17s. The U17 age group hosts, who had recently secured the SWF South-East/ East area league title saw most of the ball during the encounter but it was Hibernian's younger U15NP squad who came away with the win, scoring twice to boost confidence ahead of the final two matches of the SHAAP U15NP season. That confidence was evident in a close fought

draw against Lanarkshire Hibs at Lasswade Centre yesterday afternoon. Hibernian had the better of the first half with Rosie Livingstone and Ella Blamire threatening in the early stages only to be denied by the Lanarkshire Hibs goalkeeper. It was Livingstone who eventually opened the scoring, pouncing on the loose ball, ten yards out to put the young Hibernian team ahead going into the break. Hibernian could have doubled their lead early in the second half but again

the Lanarkshire keeper made a solid one on one save to keep the contest within touching distance. As the half progressed the visitors grew into the game and eventually got their reward for their persistence. Demi Lee Jackson, again finding the back of the Hibernian net just as she had done in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. This time lifting the ball over the advancing Hibernian keeper to pull Lanarkshire Hibs level. The draw leaves Hibernian fourth with a number of clubs now capable of finishing in third place after next weekend's final round of fixtures.

CLUB NEWS

SSE SCOTTISH

CUP FINAL

STRUAN GARVIE PREVIEWS THE SEASON FINALE ON NOVEMBER 24TH AS HIBERNIAN TAKE ON GLASGOW CITY AT TYNECASTLE. On Sunday November 24th, Hibernian and Glasgow City will meet at Tynecastle in the final of the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup. It has been another strong run in the competition for Hibernian, the current competition holders. Beating Stirling University, Heart of Midlothian, Hamilton Academical and Motherwell on the way to the final. Impressively as well the squad have scored 19 goals across the four games, conceding only twice. The semi-final against Motherwell was a special

day for Amy Muir. Not only did she score her first goal for Hibernian, but it she also played the full 90 minutes for the first time in months after previously suffering an injury in an earlier round this season. Head Coach, Grant Scott, gave his thoughts after the semi final about Hibernian’s opponents Glasgow City. He said: “It’s gonna be another big game for us. Cup final, we want to defend the trophy. Glasgow City are certainly the strongest team in the country at the moment, but we think we are just as good on our day.”

Glasgow City have also had a fine run in the cup this season. Landslide victories against Dundee City and Edinburgh Caledonia FC before taking on the Old Firm in the final two rounds. City beat Celtic 2-0 in the quarter-final and came from behind to beat Rangers 4-1 in the semi-final. The finalists met last weekend in the Scottish Women’s Premier League with Glasgow City maintaining their unbeaten record in a 3-1 win for the visitors. Having retained the SWPL Cup earlier this year, Hibernian will strive to complete a quadruple double. The Edinburgh side have held both domestic cups since 2016 but they will have a tough test ahead of them at Tynecastle Park. Whatever happens on November 24, you can be assured that it will be a terrific match. With two of the best teams that Scottish women’s football has to offer going head to head in a true clash of the titans.

SEASON REVIEW

SEASON

REVIEW SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER DAVID RONNEY REFLECTS ON THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF THE SEASON GONE BY.

A

s our season unfortunately begins to draw to a close, these final few matchdays allow us to reminisce on what has been another packed season for Hibernian Ladies.

Our squad grew in the summer too with the signings of Amy Muir and Siobhan Higgins, both of which have settled in well and helped the team record impressive results in the second half of the campaign. A big part of the impressive run of form was perhaps a result For myself, I think back to my first game of the benchmark set following the club’s trip helping provide social media for the team and to Slovenia. Three wins out of that was the SWPL Cup final. The three in a tough UEFA Women’s journey to the final saw a close Champions League group with "THERE IS STILL encounter with our Edinburgh counterpart, Heart of Midlothian, ALL TO PLAY FOR IN equally as tough conditions in the eastern European heat. convincing away victories to THESE FINAL GAMES A great opportunity for staff Stirling University and Spartans and players to get to know one OF THE SEASON before taking on a familiar foe in another a little bit better too with Glasgow City in Airdrie. It seems some time ago now Unfortunately, the Czech side but there was a small matter brought it back and left Easter Road 4-1 winners of a Women’s World Cup in the summer that on the night. While it may sound weird to say saw Joelle Murray and Jenna Fife flew over to but supporters, staff and players would have France as part of Shelley Kerr’s squad. We also argued that it wasn’t a 4-1 game. That the had national call-ups for several of our younger scoreline did not reflect how close the two squad members at the UEFA’s European teams were on the night and how Hibernian Women’s Under-19 Championship on home soil. took the game to the visitors.

THE MANAGER

Fast forward a few weeks and Hibernian were in Prague for the second leg. Similar to the Slovenia trip, albeit only for three days this time round, the squad had the opportunity to travel and stay with one another as a team. On the night it was a 5-1 win for the hosts but a special moment for Amy Gallacher who levelled things in the first half. Not many players can say they have scored at the same ground as Lionel Messi, Harry Kane and Vivianne Miedema within the same calendar year! Back to the Scottish game and Hibernian are in their fifth consecutive Scottish Cup final against Glasgow City and potentially on course for a second-place finish in the SWPL 1. There is still all to play for in these final games of the season but on behalf of myself and the club I would like to thank all the supporters who have been in attendance or cheered us online throughout this campaign. It’s an exciting time for the women’s game and Hibernian continue to defy expectations of what is possible. That of course is a credit to the players, staff, sponsors and anyone involved with the club in any capacity. While this may be our last home game of the campaign, we will of course be back in Edinburgh for the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup final at Tynecastle Park and we would love to have your support behind us as we defend the cup. Thanks again for your support and we’ll see you at home in the New Year.
