THE EDITOR
THE
EDITOR WELCOME TO AINSLIE PARK FOR THE FIRST OF THREE SUCCESSIVE HOME FIXTURES AS THE SEASON DRAWS TO A CLOSE
T
he second half of the season has moved at a blistering pace. With the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the SSE Scottish Cup and the continuation of the SWPL there have been so many matches in what feels like such a short space of time. We have now arrived at that point of the season that I have been dreading since the moment I laid my eyes on the fixtures. Three home matches within the space of three weeks and worse, the delay to the Forfar Farmington game meant that it arrived just ahead of these fixtures as well. Why the feeling of dread? Well quite simply the preparation that goes into ensuring that every home game runs smoothly is a fairly significant process. For the media team it is a case of writing match previews, preparing the social media graphics and coming up with a match-day media strategy. This includes sending out the invitation for media accreditation requests, setting up for those people arriving and of course there's the match programme to string together. When you have a few weeks in between match programmes it really helps to give time for new content to appear. Whether that be more matches having been played or more news developing off the pitch. Today for example we don't have our regular U23s feature as the team have not played since we released our
last programme. The good news is that has presented us with an opportunity to cast the light back on our U15 National Performance squad instead. With only a few days to put the programme together it is a huge effort on the part of all the contributing writers to find the time to pen their thoughts ahead of the submission deadline. I'd like to extend my thanks to everyone who has contributed to today's programme allowing the media team to maintain the same high standard we set for ourselves in covering the club. Today I am delighted to announce that we are welcoming Edinburgh College photography students to Ainslie Park. The club maintains a solid relationship with Edinburgh College and as part of our partnership we are opening up the doors to allow their HND2 Photography students an opportunity to photograph today's fixture as part of their coursework assignment. It may be a little busy around the pitch-side today with the increased photography experience but I hope that simply serves to show the increasing interest in Scottish Women’s Football and in no way impacts on your match day experience. I hope you enjoy the match this afternoon!

The team done exactly that, and it was great to see Amy Muir get her first goal for the club and see us put in another dominant performance. The Scotland U19's did fantastically in Poland, securing qualification after two games and then going out and beating the hosts in the final game was great to see. It was also pleasing to see Lauren obtain three 90 minutes. She seems to be a central figure in that team and quite rightly so. She has definitely returned with a spring in her step and hopefully she transfers that energy and positivity into her performances in the green and white.

KEY MOMENT
In a first half of very few chances it was a rare Motherwell defensive mistake that allowed Colette Cavanagh through on goal. The midfielder took the shot on early, beating the onrushing Hunter to give Hibernian a hard earned lead going into the break.
THE GAFFER
"It's the business end of the season and we just need to keep chalking off the wins hopefully. Performance wise we all know collectively that we should probably have done a bit better today but I think it's a credit to Motherwell that they had an idea on limiting our chances and they did that very well while looking threatening when they had chances as well."
WHO SAID WHAT?
“It was quite difficult to break them down. Their team was set up compact and quite narrow which at times made it hard for us to play but we found a way to work around it.” COLETTE CAVANAGH
PRESS REACTION
“Hibs remain 11 points behind the leaders after a 2-0 result at Motherwell. Colette Cavanagh latched onto a ball over the top and poked it past the onrushing keeper for a narrow lead at the interval. Three minutes after the restart, Siobhan Hunter’s free-kick was parried but it fell kindly for Cavanagh who squared it to Chelsea Cornet to score." SHEKICKS.NET

THE BIG INTERVIEW - AMY MUIR
AMY
MUIR HIBERNIAN'S NEWEST DEFENDER SHARES A LOOK AT HER CAREER WITH RANGERS AND DISCUSSES HER AMBITIONS AT HIBERNIAN. Amy, you joined Hibernian in the summer. How have these first few months been playing for the club?
like Jamie-Lee Napier for example who I have played with and against for a number of years is just one example of
AM: It’s been great! I feel I’ve settled in here well and I’ve been enjoying my time. I’m starting to find my feet and growing in confidence each week and I look forward to the remaining games this season. You knew some of the squad already from your time in the international setup, most recently with Scotland’s involvement in UEFA’s Women’s Under-19 Championship. Did that make the decision slightly easier to move to Hibernian?
"I TOOK TIME OVER MY DECISION BUT IN THE END I FELT HIBS PROVIDED A GREAT PLATFORM FOR YOUNG PLAYERS TO DEVELOP AND BE SUCCESSFUL. PLAYERS LIKE JAMIE-LEE WHO I HAVE PLAYED WITH AND AGAINST HAVE DEVELOPED HERE."
AM: I took time over my decision but in the end I felt Hibs provided a great platform for young players to develop and be successful. Players
a young player who has developed a lot from playing her football here.
You have played in Scotland for some years now having come through the ranks at Rangers. How was that experience for yourself when you were brought into the first team? AM: I made a few appearances when I was 16 at Rangers, before settling in at the first team the following year. I think the gap between development football and the SWPL1 is big so I had to improve in every aspect physically and technically to be able to compete. It took time but playing against older and more experienced players definitely brought my game to the next level. Back in April you won Rangers Women’s Player of the Year award. Also, it was the first time this award had been presented at their POTY awards. How did it feel to
21
THE BIG INTERVIEW - AMY MUIR
pick up that award, especially considering it’s quite early into your professional career? AM: It was a great moment receiving that award alongside the men’s first team which is something that never happened in previous years. Also being one of the younger players in the Rangers squad at the time made it more special. Back to Hibernian, you scored your first goal for the club last weekend with that header against Motherwell. How did it feel when the ball reached the back of the net? AM: I think the photos club photographer Craig Doyle managed to snap say it all really! I was delighted and happy to finally get off the mark. You said in your postmatch interview that you were surprised your first goal for the club came from a header. Is this something you’ve been looking add to your game and can we potentially see more goals from yourself in the coming matches?
22
AM: Yeah I hope so. I like to get high up the pitch to be able to influence the game. I want to contribute to creating more chances
"MY DEBUT CAME AGAINST GLASGOW CITY. I WAS EXCITED TO BE INVOLVED IN A TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH AND I THINK FOR MY FIRST GAME TO BE IN SUCH A COMPETITIVE AND IMPORTANT MATCH PROBABLY HELPED ME IN A WAY IN SEEING WHERE THE STANDARD IS AT FROM THE VERY START." for the team and of course finish some off myself. How did it feel when you made your debut for the club?
AM: My debut came against Glasgow City which obviously was an important game in terms of it being the first game back after the summer break. I was excited to be involved in a top of the table clash and I think for my first game to come in such a competitive match it probably helped me in a way in seeing where the standard is at from the start. You are one of the players within the squad that didn't grow up in the Edinburgh area. Where did you grow up and where did you go to school? AM: I grew up in Gourock which is about 30 minutes west of Glasgow. I went to Moorfoot Primary School in Gourock before going to Clydeview Academy. When were you first introduced to football and did you play for your school team? AM: I started playing with my brother and dad in the garden when I was around 5/6. I played with the boys through primary school and just stuck with it from there. Can you give us an

insight into the early days of your football career? What was the first club that you joined and at what age?
injury. How have these last few months been for yourself as you’ve worked your way back to being able to return to the team?
AM: I joined a boys club called First Touch at around 8 years old before I started training with Rangers when I was 11. I played with both Rangers and another boys club called Gourock YAC for a couple of seasons from when I was 12. I then worked my way through the youth pathway at Rangers before moving to Hibs this summer.
AM: The last month was difficult not being able to be involved in a lot of games and
You’ve played as a defender and midfielder during your time at the club, but did you play other positions growing up? AM: I was always a wide player growing up, usually right mid, until I started playing in the first team at Rangers I played a bit at full back and that seemed to stick ever since. Only really over the past year with Scotland U19s I played midfield and did so at the Euro Finals in the summer. You’ve only recently returned from sometime out through
"THE LAST MONTH WAS DIFFICULT NOT BEING ABLE TO BE INVOLVED IN A LOT OF GAMES PARTICULARLY MISSING OUT ON THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GAMES WAS A BIT DISAPPOINTMENT BUT MY REHAB WENT WELL AND I'M BACK TRAINING." particularly missing out on the Champions League games was a big disappointment. However my rehab has went really well and I was back training slightly earlier than expected so I’m lucky to have had no other setbacks along the
way. Have you been injured for a lengthy spell like this before or is this the first of your kind? If so, how did you react and deal with the situation? AM: I have been relatively lucky with injuries so far so I haven’t had many long term issues in the past. Unfortunately, that injury did come for yourself as you were gaining momentum in the team and this of course was acknowledged by the Scotland coach who called yourself and Jamie-Lee Napier a day prior. You would of course have been disappointed to miss out on that call-up, but did it give you confidence that you were asked to join the senior squad so soon after finishing with the under 19s? AM: Yeah I think the timing couldn’t of been worse as I felt I was feeling sharp and was in a good place on the pitch so of course for it to happen when it did was hard to take. As much as I was gutted to miss out on my first

camp I still do take a lot of confidence from getting the shout and it’s something that’s helped me through my rehab knowing that I have a chance to come back stronger and be in an even better position. I’m sure another call-up will come for yourself in the near future. Is breaking into Shelley Kerr’s squad a current ambition for yourself for the next EUROs or World Cup qualifiers? AM: I think my focus at the moment is to get back to being in the position I was before the injury and finish the season strongly. I’ll continue to work hard and do everything I can for the team and hope I can get another opportunity in the future. Your injury came in that SSE Scottish Women’s Cup tie against Hearts. Was it perhaps suiting that you opened the scoring and helped the team to another final on Sunday so soon after your return to action? AM: Yes you could say that! I’m delighted that I could play my part in

helping the team reach another SEE Scottish Cup final. I’ve watched on as the team has won successive trophies and now I want to experience that first-hand. This will be Hibernian’s
"IT MEANT A LOT TO ME TO CAPTAIN MY COUNTRY THROUGH THE YOUTH NATIONAL TEAMS AND TO FINISH OFF AT A EURO FINALS WEARING THE ARMBAND ON HOME SOIL TOPPED IT OFF. I LOVED EVERY MINUTE PLAYING THROUGH THE YOUTH TEAMS." fifth consecutive Scottish Women’s Cup final. What is it like to be amongst a group of players and staff that aspire to reach this stage of the competition year after year?
AM: It’s great, and it’s one of the reasons I wanted to come here. I wanted to be part of a squad that are consistently competing at the highest level and are successful domestically. There’s a winning mentality here and the expectation within the group is to retain both cups. Like many of the players here you have enjoyed a very successful career playing in the Scotland youth setup, particular through the U17 and U19 age groups. You also captained your country in the Championship in the summer. How did it feel to pull on the blue shirt and captain’s armband representing your country? AM: It meant a lot to me to captain my country through the youth national teams and to finish off at a Euro Finals wearing the armband on home soil topped it off. I loved every minute playing through the youth teams and playing a major tournament at home was a great way to end on a high. Looking ahead to this weekend, your former

club, Rangers will be travelling to Ainslie Park in the SWPL 1. What will be your emotion going into that game? AM: I’m looking forward to the game and to come up against some familiar faces, however, I will treat it as any other game and will do everything I can to help the team come away with three points. If you had to choose, what one memory sticks out to you from your time with Rangers? AM: I would say receiving the POTY award was a great moment for me so I would say that sticks out the most. There are only four games left in the league this season before that cup final at Tynecastle Park. How important is it to maintain momentum from now until then? AM: It’s very important that we continue our good form and perform to a high standard in each of our remaining games. We know that a good run of form to finish off our league
campaign will bring us confidence to lift the Scottish cup next month. You had your first Champions League experience while out in Slovenia with the team. As a club it's not often that the players get to spend as long as eight days together
"THE EXPERIENCE IN SLOVENIA WAS GREAT AND I WAS GUTTED TO MISS OUT ON BEING ABLE TO PLAY AT EASTER ROAD BUT LOOKING TO THE FUTURE I WOULD LOVE THE CHANCE TO BE INVOLVED IN BIG GAMES LIKE THAT AGAIN." as a group. How do you think the time spent in Slovenia has been beneficial to the group? AM: Yeah I think it is a unique experience being able to be away with your club but I think it helped us a lot
and allowed us to come together and achieve our goal which was to qualify. You missed out unfortunately on the Round of 32 matches against SK Slavia Praha but does that initial experience in Slovenia make you hungry to be involved in more European ties? AM: Yes definitely. The experience in Slovenia was great and I was gutted to miss out on being able to play at Easter Road but looking to the future I would love the chance to be involved in big games like that again. There are some big matches coming up as we near the end of the season. What message would you send out to anyone who might be looking to come along to their first match? AM: I would say come along and bring your friends! There’s not many games to go and there’s still a chance to see the team up close before the Cup final at Tynecastle. Do you have any personal goals or objectives for the
31
THE BIG INTERVIEW - AMY MUIR
remainder of this season? AM: My main goal is to continue to regain match fitness and sharpness to finish the season strong and of course to help Hibernian win the SSE Scottish Cup cup again. Do you have any footballing role models from the professional game or that you have played with? AM: Lionel Messi has always been my favourite player from the men’s game. Rose Lavelle from the USWNT is another player who is great on the ball! Everyone loves a bit of fashion and these days boots are no exception. What is your choice of footwear on the pitch this season? AM: Adidas x18 boots are my go to. Obviously, you are still young and have years of playing time ahead of you, but have you made any plans to get involved in coaching or other aspects of football that would see you potential stay involved after you finish playing? AM: I haven’t thought
32
too much into possibly coaching when I’m older. I’m currently doing a Sport science degree at University here in Edinburgh so maybe something along those lines.
"TO BE HONEST I HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ON A SQUAD WITH A WINNING MENTALITY. I FEEL RELIEVED THAT WE ALL SHARE THIS WINNING MENTALITY AND AGAIN I FEEL GRATEFUL THAT I GET TO EXPERIENCE THIS JOURNEY WITH ALL OF THE TALENTED GIRLS HERE AT THE CLUB." Who are the best players you have played alongside and against? AM: Some of the best players I have come up
against were probably part of the U19 France side that won the Euros in the summer. The bulk of their squad came from Lyon and PSG so they were all top players. Can you tell us something about yourself that we don't know? AM: I used to do ballet before I started playing football. Onto music. Anyone who has been on the coach on one of the European trips will know that Lia loves to take over the speakers on the bus. But everyone has their own taste in music. What's the best gig you have ever been to? AM: I’ve seen Noel Gallagher and The Stereophonics live so probably one of those. What's your favourite movie of all time? AM: My favourite movie of all time is probably Matilda.

NEWS TYNECASTLE AWAITS FOR SSE SCOTTISH CUP FINAL Goals from Amy Muir, Colette Cavanagh, Siobhan Hunter and Rachael Boyle saw off Motherwell in a 4-1 win to set up a final against the reigning Scottish Women’s Premier League champions. Grant Scott’s side will be looking to complete a quadruple double, having secured both domestic trophies since 2016. This is the second final this season the two sides have met in as Hibernian retained the SWPL Cup on penalties against City back in May. However, Head Coach Scott knows of the challenge that lies ahead for them at the end of the season. He said: “We’ve obviously run each other close on various things over the years and it’s just going to be another big game for us to prepare for. “We want to defend the trophy. Glasgow City are certainly the strongest team in the country at the moment but we think we’re just as good on our day, so it’ll be a good one.” This was echoed by midfielder Boyle, who
34
discussed the hard work the squad will put in to prepare for their cup final opponents. Boyle said: “It’s going to be massive. We know what we’re coming up against when we play against Glasgow City. “They’re always tough games and this will be no different. “From now until the end of the season we’ve got to work hard, and we’ve got to be doing the right things and making sure we look after ourselves because come the November 24 it’s going to be massive.” In the absence of Joelle Murray, Boyle wore the captain’s armband for Sunday’s semi-final, earning a goal and two assists in the process. However, she believed her performance will need to be even better going into the business end of the season. She added: “I’ve said it to the girls that I need to up my performance going into the next few games. I wasn’t too happy with my performance out there, but I’ll take two assists and a
goal. “Obviously, Amy got on the end of a header and Siobhan got on another, so if I can keep putting the deliveries in the right areas then I know the girls will tuck them away.” Muir also discussed her delight of earning her first Hibernian goal against Motherwell on Sunday and to be able to complete a full match on her comeback from injury. Muir said: “I’m delighted to eventually get my first goal. I didn’t expect it to be a header, to be honest, but it was a great ball in and I was just glad to finish it. “I think we were just looking to get our first goal to lift us and it was a good moment to score. I think we stepped it up after that went in. “I’ve had some minutes against Motherwell the other week and Forfar as well. I’m just glad to get 90 minutes under my belt again. “It’ll take time for me to get back to where I was, but I think that was important for me to get a full game.”

DAVIDSON HELPS U19S TOP GROUP Scotland Women's Under 19 squad finished top of their Qualifying group in Poland to progress to the Elite Qualifying round for the UEFA Women's Under 19 Championship. A thumping 4-0 victory over Bulgaria saw Scotland off to the perfect start. However a dominant performance against Croatia saw both teams draw a blank but did ensure that Scotland would qualify from their group regardless of the result in the final game. A 1-0 victory over hosts Poland in the final match saw Scotland take top spot and join 27 other teams in the Elite Qualifying round. Hibernian striker Lauren Davidson featured for 90 minutes in all three matches and will hope to be involved again as Pauline Hamill's squad face tougher opposition in the Elite Qualifying round in Spring 2020.
PLENDERLEITH COACHING AT ORIAM
FIFE BECOMES ACADEMY GK COACH
Hibernian Academy Under 15 National Performance coach Stewart Plenderleith recently spent five days over at the Oriam National Performance Academy as part of the Scottish FA C Licence course.
First team goalkeeper and Scotland international Jenna Fife has taken up a coaching role with the Hibernian Girls Academy.

He then spent four year over in America playing for and then coaching with Philadelphia Fury as well as fulfilling coaching roles with Concord Soccer Club, Washington United and Swedesboro Soccer Club in the New Jersey Area. On his return to the UK Stewart chose to join the Hibernian Girls Academy and now coaches our Under 15 Girls National Performance squad alongside Sarah Archibald.

The stopper who also coaches at weekly SFA Regionals sessions will bring her wealth of experience at first team level to share with Hibernian's young talented goalkeepers. Everyone at the Academy looks forward to what Jenna can bring to the table in her new coaching role.

RANGERS
I
t has been a season of significant transition for the Glasgow club. Having made a number of statements of intent, they are now showing progress in delivering on their promises to invest in the women's game. Since the summer the club has made huge strides forward. They have moved their home pitch from New Tinto Park to the Hummel Training Centre. Gregory Vignal has come in as manager to replace Amy McDonald who is now leading the overall women's programme at the club. A number of back-room and support staff have also been added showing that Rangers are starting to put a solid infrastructure in place for the growth of the women's side of the club.
38
There have been new additions to the playing squad as well. Familiar face Emma Brownlie has joined following her spell down South with Everton while Vignal has also brought in French U19 internationals Daina Bourma and Lisa Martinez until the end of the season. Both featured in France's UEFA European U19 Championship winning squad that won the tournament here in Scotland over the summer. The Gers are on a run of three straight wins in the league with their only defeats coming away at Celtic and against Glasgow City. While a fourth placed finish in SWPL1 looks almost certain it is clear that the club are intent on laying the foundations for the future and will present an intriguing challenge on Sunday.

LAST MEETING RANGERS 0 HIBERNIAN 6
The final match before the summer break saw Hibernian travel to Rangers for the last SWPL1 match to be played at New Tinto Park. Hibernian got off to the perfect start with an early goal from Kirsty Morrison being followed up by a Siobhan Hunter penalty. Cailin Michie also got on the score-sheet before the break. The remaining three all came in the last ten minutes with Shannon Leishman and Amy Gallacher both scoring their first goals of the season before Napier added a sixth and final goal on full-time.

KEY MOMENT
It was a complete performance from Hibs with ruthless efficiency in front of goal. However Farmington seemed stunned by Boyle adding Hibs second moments after Higgins opened the scoring and never recovered.
KEEPER DEBUTS
Such is the consistency of Jenna Fife that it's rare to see anyone else between the posts for Hibernian. However Jeni Currie made her SWPL debut for the club this evening while Alicia Yates appearance from the bench was her first time on the pitch at senior level.
THE GAFFER
"It's a difficult performance to describe as it's so unusual to win a game as comfortably as that. We had expected a tougher test tonight but we were quite fortunate to get a couple of early goals which seemed to knock the stuffing out of Forfar, but it's an unusual scoreline in this league."
WHO SAID WHAT?
“I feel really relieved to score. I feel like it's been a long time coming so I'm pretty happy about it. I had a lot of opportunities to get a hat-trick but it's okay as my other teammates benefited in the end.” SIOBHAN HIGGINS
WHO SAID WHAT 2?
“It was three goals that were setup for me by my team mates but it's what you want to do coming on as a sub, as a striker, scoring goals so I was happy with my performance." LIA TWEEDIE

FIXTURES & RESULTS
WORDS BY SARAH ARCHIBALD & STEWART PLENDERLEITH
W
e rode a blistering first half display to secure a fantastic 4-2 win at home against Glasgow Girls. We flew out the traps with early goals from Rosie Livingstone and Ella Blamire following some nice combination play in the attacking third putting us 2-0 up. We continued to move the ball well in attack with wide midfielders Nina Hegarty and Brodie Hutchison creating numerous opportunities and We definitely looked like adding to the scoreline. Further goals from Ella Blamire and Rosie Livingstone put us in a commanding 4-0 lead close to half time however a contentious period of play led to us thinking we had scored a 5th goal following a brilliant cut back and shot that bounced down off the bar and appeared to cross the line, however with no goal given Glasgow Girls countered and scored to
50
make it 4-1 at half time. In the second half Glasgow Girls got another goal back immediately from kick off as a result of our slack play which allowed Glasgow to score from a 30 yard shot that took the keeper by surprise. Hibernian regained their composure and whilst Glasgow Girls offered more in the second half threatening from a few set pieces the our back 4 held strong whilst we continued to look dangerous in attack. We could well have added to the scoreline with a number of 1 on 1’s with the Glasgow Girls keeper going unpunished and a disallowed goal meaning the final score was 4-2 Hibernian. On balance it was a terrific performance with probably some of the best football we have played all season. The girls continue to work hard at training despite our spell of no league games. We are excited to have a number of friendlies

coming up especially against Dryburgh U17s who have won their league convincingly. Playing against a team from the age group up will be another excellent experience and test for us. We look forward to our two remaining league games against Lanarkshire Hibs and Boroughmuir Thistle in the next few weeks. The girls have worked incredibly hard over the season and it’s clear to see the progression and development on display week in week out. We are confident of delivering a positive finish to our season.

OPPOSITION CONNECTION

CONNECTION EMMA BROWNLIE RETURNS TO AINSLIE PARK THIS AFTERNOON JUST NINE MONTHS AFTER LEAVING HIBERNIAN FOR THE WSL.
S
unday's meeting between Hibernian and Rangers will certainly have a very different feel to previous encounters in recent years. It's not just the arrival of Gregory Vignal in the away dugout against Hibernian for the first time that will draw the attention though. There is the small matter of the two clubs lining up with right-backs that would have been wearing the other shirt at this time last season. While Amy Muir arrived at Hibernian over the summer, Rangers were able to bring in ex-Hibs full-back Emma Brownlie who had been plying her trade in the WSL for the previous six months. The defender is a well known face around the changing room at Hibernian having spent two spells with the club over a period of eight years, racking up 150 appearances and hitting the back of the net eleven times. Coincidentally Brownlie's competitive debut came back in September 2011 when she arrived as a substitute in 0-1 SWPL loss to today's opponents, Rangers. Disappointment was short lived though as she made her first start a matter of weeks later as Hibernian defeated Spartans 3-1 in the quarter final of the Scottish Women's Cup. After almost a year in the senior squad Brownlie scored her first goal against Celtic Reserves in a 3-0 Scottish Cup third round success. She then made the switch to join Celtic
ahead of the 2013 season and spent two years at the Glasgow club before returning to Hibernian ahead of the 2015 season as Chris Roberts brought in a number of new faces to boost his Hibernian squad. Brownlie highlighted that she felt a return to Hibernian was a natural progression and that she always knew she'd return one day. That return saw her face of against her old club on her debut as Hibernian edged out a 1-0 win away at Celtic and was the beginning of a hugely successful four years at the club. In that space of time Brownlie helped Hibernian to three SWPL Cups and three successive Scottish Cup, marking her final competitive appearance for the club with an 8-0 win against Motherwell in the 2018 final. As Hibernian began preparations for the 2019 season Emma Brownlie was among the faces in the squad for a pre-season friendly against Spartans. However it was to be the defenders final appearance in a green and white shirt as she joined WSL relegation battlers Everton prior to the close of the WSL transfer window. Emma highlighted that the opportunity to work with ex-Hibernian boss Willie Kirk and assistant Chris Roberts was a defining factor in luring her down South. Brownlie made her debut for the Toffees in their FA Women's Cup clash against fellow WSL side Everton. In her five month spell on Merseyside she made a total of nine appearances for Everton including
55
OPPOSITION CONNECTION
seven starts helping the club to avoid relegation and remain in the WSL for the 2019/20 season. However during the summer when her shortterm contract expired she left the club. With a number of clubs undoubtedly keen on bringing Emma's experience and quality on board it came as something of a surprise when Rangers announced the capture of the exHibernian star. Brownlie highlighted Rangers desire to move to a semiprofessional setup as a massive attraction for making the move back North.
56
As expected it hasn't taken long for Brownlie to settle in to her new environment and showoff a little bit of the class that Hibernian supporters have been used to seeing over the years. She has already netted her first goal for her new club with a late free kick securing all three points against Forfar Farmington just a few weeks ago. There is little doubt that Emma Brownlie is a fantastic signing for Rangers. Not only does she bring a wealth of quality which includes her ability to deliver from set plays but she brings a vast amount of experience of
having played and found success at a high level. She will prove to be a valuable asset and leader to their young squad on and off the pitch. While Hibernian fans will no doubt be welcoming in greeting a player who has played a significant role in the successes of the club on the pitch over the last few seasons they should also be wary of what she will offer to Rangers this afternoon. While it will be great to see a familiar face out there again at Ainslie Park let's hope it is the Hibernian team leaving the ground with smiles on their faces this afternoon.

THE
LAST WORD CLUB CHAPLAIN CATRIONA LAMONT GIVES AN IN-DEPTH INSIGHT INTO HER ROLE WITH HIBERNIAN LADIES.
"
Would you consider being a chaplain for a women’s football team" he asked. Really? I don’t know anything about women’s football or chaplaincy.
that is with back-room staff, coaches, players or parents, and that takes time and commitment. I’ve been with the club for nearly 5 years and haven’t been sacked yet!
Spending time at training every Tuesday I met with Mark Fleming who is the and Thursday and most home games, I head of Sports Chaplaincy, Scotland for a am to be found hanging around the gossip chat and he didn’t take long to sell me the filled physio room, chasing vision. That day I realised or pretending to laugh at my passion for my faith as a Stewart's terrible patter! THE MANAGER
with Hibs Ladies FC.
