Welcome
So, I won’t lie to you, this year has been a rollercoaster ride for couples and suppliers alike. But we are coming to the end of the year and the ‘new normal’ feels firmly in place for the foreseeable future! What it does mean is that 2021 is going to be crazy! With rescheduled weddings and bookings already in the diary, a heap of suppliers are already saying they are fully booked...and in some cases, overbooked. So what does this mean for all those couples who got engaged in 2020 and don’t want to wait 2 to 3 years to get married? Think outside the box! Short of a total lockdown, wedding restrictions are unlikely to change for a while so you know what you’re dealing with, so work it to your advantage and plan for a small, intimate wedding full of your personalities without the compromises. My personal favourite is The Wedding Weekend which you can read more about on page 26. If you don’t find what you’re looking for in our magazine, head over to www.silverlinings. co.uk and check out our Wedding Directory for a comprehensive list of local wedding professionals. You’ll also find practical planning downloads and wonderfully inspiring blogs to guide you through this unprecedented time. Planning your wedding is a huge task but using all of the resources available magazines, websites, blogs, wedding fairs will make the process easier and fun!

Marriage
We have to celebrate – honestly, we do still need to celebrate – to find the joy and wonder in two people pledging their love to each other. Amidst all the awfulness that is the battle with the COVID-19 we need something to look forward to and couples are finding their way to marry and plan a celebration. The Government's most recent restrictions on gatherings have made things difficult – a maximum of 15 guests with the marriage taking place in a Covid secure premises (either a Church or a Licensed Premises or Register Office). Many couples have had their heart set on a big wedding and have been planning their day for up to 2 years, and these restrictions, which will possibly be with us for the next 6 months or more, have frustrated these plans.
12
The Silverlinings Wedding Guide
So how to celebrate in a way which is meaningful whilst adhering to the restrictions? The first thing to say is that you can still legally marry, which wasn’t possible during the lockdown earlier in the year, so the option exists to tie the knot! You could choose to go minimalist and have a statutory legal ceremony in a Register Office, with just 2 witnesses and follow it by a meal together. Small weddings and elopements are very ‘on trend’ and were gaining in popularity even before the virus struck our shores. An elopement is wildly romantic, just the two of you escaping to a venue of your choice – the chance to be alone and to embrace the special feeling of the two of you being in love and promising to spend the rest of your lives together, and many venues are specialising in offering these wonderfully intimate ceremonies. As it's just the two of you the possibility exists to upgrade the venue and really treat yourselves to an indulgent weekend away. Another option would be to marry in the venue or church of your choice
Marriage and keep the guest list to your very nearest and dearest (to a maximum of 15 guests) – embrace the idea of an intimate ceremony full of love and emotion. The reception will again be different but with smaller numbers you may be able to add luxury touches – think wonderful flowers to enhance the decor, extra special food, an amazing cake and fabulous champagne to give it the wow factor and it will be a day to remember. Worried that your friends and wider family will not be present? Think of a celebration later – perhaps on your first anniversary. An opportunity to wear the dress again, and for all your guests to dress up and celebrate with you. You could use a Celebrant who can write a bespoke ceremony for you, and include a reflection on your first year of marriage, you could add in all the traditions of a wedding ceremony if you wish, including vows and exchange of rings. Make it a party for everyone to celebrate your happiness. Remember that as you are legally married this celebration can happen anywhere – from your original venue, to a marquee on a clifftop or your garden. Still not sure what to do? Many couples have postponed their wedding to another date, remember to check with all your suppliers to ensure they are free for your new date.
Reboot your plans to keep the excitement – you may want to think about having a Celebrant led ceremony to add that special personal touch, they can work with you to develop a ceremony which really speaks to both your hearts. Using a celebrant can also mean that the ceremony can take place exactly where you want it to be – think outdoor weddings, in the woods, a field with a marquee reception, a clifftop or on the beach. Get creative to ensure your postponed date is better than the day you originally planned. Our advice? Remember the reason you are getting married is because you love each other, in uncertain times the reassurance of a legal union can be huge, so we would say do the “legal” ceremony and celebrate later, hopefully when this virus which has dominated all our lives for the past 6 months and disrupted so many plans, has been placed under some control allowing us all to get back to some sort of normality.

The Silverlinings Wedding Guide
Planning
It is safe to say weddings have taken a huge hit since the global pandemic COVID 19 took hold in March. I for one never imagined it would be this severe and the impact it has had on our much-loved wedding industry, couples of 2020 and now 2021. For many couple’s there has been little choice other to postpone the celebrations to a more convenient time where the larger gathering will be safe again and more enjoyable. The question is how do we know when that time will be?
Right now whether you are planning a wedding at home or abroad there are countless moving parts surrounding the virus and since this situation is fluid, what it means for your wedding, specifically, really depends on your wedding date, guest count, location and the extent of travel involved. Planning a wedding can be a stressful time at the best of times however now having to deal with navigating wedding plans around regular moving restrictions is not an easy task!
silverlinings.co.uk

Planning
For many waiting until we know more seems like a sensible option after all who wants to book a venue and suppliers to have the stress of rearranging the details and navigating your already sent out guest list! However, leaving things too late can also leave you with limited choice or availability. If you have decided to go ahead with the plans, now is the time to get suppliers and venues booked up. With weddings being postponed from 2020 to 2021 there will be a huge backlog of weddings waiting to go ahead which means you may find your dream venue has limited availability until 2022.
17. 0 8 . 2 1
A popular option for couples having 2020 weddings is to go ahead with an intimate ceremony this year, but postpone the main party to 2021 and beyond. Just be aware that a big party is not yet guaranteed and it all depends on a potential second wave or vaccine. Start planning your event for 2021 onwards as if everyone has the same idea it’s going to be busy! There has been a larger influx of couples than ever getting engaged this year with an estimated whopping 400,000 weddings and celebrations hoping to take place.
Majority of wedding suppliers in Cornwall have been amazing during COVID and will work with you in every way possible to be able to deliver their services at a convenient date. Remember to be compassionate to them also as with weddings not taking place and couples rescheduling left, right and centre, not every supplier will be able to move dates and accommodate all of their couples. We are in this together guys!

Whether you are chatting to a florist, entertainer, caterer or hairdresser, be sure to check their cancellation policies before booking. Read contracts carefully to ensure you understand everything. If you are going ahead with this year remember that new government guidelines have clarified that third party suppliers no longer count towards the new 15 maximum numbers Yay! A little light at least!
Planning
The government has advised that wherever possible all food and drinks should be served by staff, in line with the guidance for restaurants, pubs and bars. Wedding buffets are a thing of the past right now so make sure you get some guidance from your caterer on the best options to go for. Experts say that an option could be to have covered boxed meals bento-style designed to match your wedding decor! Seating plans will need to follow the rule of six unless they are from the same household, so when putting together your seating plan be aware that social distancing will need to be considered.
Image: Steven Prebble Photography
The current rules state that singing, chanting and shouting are still banned at weddings. Intrustraments that require blowing into are the biggest concern. Will you want to go ahead with a band if it is just instrumental? Or maybe a DJ (or Spotify) is a better option? Organs and pianos are allowed, along with harpists and violinists so these could be a great option for some live background music.
As frustrating as it sounds having a backup date available is a great option for couples planning a wedding at the moment. However, this really depends on the venue you have chosen and if they are able to provide a secondary date for you to fall back on. First things first have a chat with them as they will want you to hold your wedding with them and do everything they can to help support you during this situation. I hope this has helped and wish you all the best in planning your special day. Remember love will never be cancelled so keep positive and I can promise you your wedding day will be so worth the wait!

TOP 10 TO ASK A WEDDING VENUE TO ENSURE THERE ARE NO ‘SURPRISES’ FURTHER INTO YOUR WEDDING PLANNING! 1. How long will you provisionally hold a date for? 2. If the venue isn’t Exclusive Use, who else could be there on my wedding day? 3. Is there a sound limiter for the DJ, or restrictions on a band? 4. Are there any restrictions on decor? 5. Is VAT included in the prices quoted? 6. How much is the deposit to secure our date? 7. Will there be someone from the venue present on our day? 8. What is your cancellation policy? 9. What time does our evening reception need to finish? 10. What are the bar prices? 20

The Silverlinings Wedding Guide
Planning
By Emma Tuckley, editor and wedding planner
Over the last few months, the wedding plans for so many couples have been thrown into disarray it’s truly been a roller coaster ride, and one that hasn’t been much fun. But what it has shown is that “love conquers all difficulties” (thanks William Godwin for the quote!). At the start of the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, couples had no choice but to postpone their wedding to later in the year, thinking the pandemic would be short-lived. When we came out of lockdown, couples were still restricted to just 15 attendees (which had to include suppliers),
and again many couples felt they still had no choice but to postpone...but this time, with no realistic end insight to COVID-19, weddings were being postponed to 2021 and beyond. Then we had another easing of restrictions and guest numbers were increased to 30. Now this was more of an acceptable number - your family can attend, your closest friends can attend, and it starts to feel more like a party! But then it all changed again - infections were on the increase, the ‘rule of 6’ came into effect, numbers of guests were reduced to back 15 (but not including suppliers this time).

More and more couples just want to get married! What do you do if you just want to get married but leave little chance of having to change your plans for the umpteenth time? You have a Wedding Weekend with your nearest and dearest!
Our recent photo shoot at Boconnion House near Bodmin is the perfect Wedding Weekend venue, with 6 bedrooms in the main house, a huge country kitchen with cosy nook, and large dining room capable of seating the maximum number of guests. Plus it has a heated swimming pool and hot tub! Trust me, you wouldn’t want to leave!
Many rentable houses won’t have marriage licenses but don’t let that put you off. A celebrant led ceremony is a beautiful way to start your marriage, giving you the opportunity to put your ceremony together exactly how you want it, whether that be with pagan rituals, religious songs, or bespoke vows. The legal part can easily be done another day.

You get to spend more time together on your wedding weekend. Does it really matter if you spend the night together the night before? Does it really matter if you see each other before the ceremony? Surely this is a time to spend the time together with your family and your friends, not separated ‘just in case’! Whether you get ready together or separately there will always be the ‘first look’ moment when you come togethbridalgossip.co.uk/er.

Many brides (and grooms!) have a picture of what they want to wear on their wedding day, but almost equally many couples don’t know what to wear... in fact they feel downright uncomfortable in the traditional expectations of a bride and of a groom. Although the stereotypes are being broken down slowly, a micro wedding gives
30
The Silverlinings Wedding Guide
you the opportunity to throw out the traditions that make you feel uncomfortable. If you’re a shorts type of man or you’re a dungarees type of girl then wear them! We worked with St Ives Bridal Room and Bridal Gossip who stock everything from heavily beaded to boho chic, with a few funky jumpsuits thrown in!
Planning
Don’t forget to pamper yourself. Just because you may have ‘toned down’ your bridalwear, having a professional makeup artist and hair stylist on hand is one less thing to think about in the morning of your wedding day. The highly skilled Sjani Makeup specialises in keeping you looking like ‘you’, just enhancing your own beauty perfect for any bride who doesn’t wear much makeup or wants a more natural look for an informal wedding day. Finish your look off with some beautiful jewellery inspired by nature. The headdress, necklace and earrings by Lucy Spink Jewellery used in our photo shoot was inspired by the lichen which we see growing all over Cornwall...and we even found had covered the wooden chairs by the pool, as if stuck in time. silverlinings.co.uk

With so few guests, your photographer and videographer won’t blend seamlessly into the background, they will be there following you and capturing the day (or weekend if you choose!) as it unfolds. Working with someone like Verity Westcott Photography is always a dream as she makes it her mission to become part of the wedding party, and is often chosen because of her personality (and, of course, her amazing photography!).
Flowers play such an important role in any wedding, so it’s important not to forget them. As well as bringing colour, texture and fragrance to your wedding decor, your bouquet can be made up of flowers that have a meaning to you and your partner. Consider using your grandma’s favourite flower, or the same flowers your mum used in her bouquet. Our florist, Floribunda, used beautiful but subtle autumnal themed flowers in the bouquet and table decor, with plenty of greenery, thistles and red berries to add to the soft peach and cream roses.

Who doesn't love cake! With a smaller number of guests, you may think that having a multi-tiered cake is wasteful but most cake makers are happy to make part of the cake from ‘fake’ tiers, using polystyrene instead of cake. Alternatively, have loads of yummy cake, and then send little boxes of your wedding cake to those who couldn’t be with you on the day.
Along with other keepsakes, personalise the menu cards to each of your guests, along with their place settings, for guests to take home with them. Our matching table plan from RoCha Designs worked so well for smaller numbers, with each table held in place by wire suspended from the industrial pipes.
Your wedding cake is a focal point of your wedding decor, and can add a splash of colour to accent the theme. Using mood boards always helps to bring your ideas together, and our stylist Rebel & Anchor, used teal to break up the autumnal colours. This was done expertly with the cake from The Cornish Cakery, using bright teal as the main colour.
COVID-19At the time of writing this, while your wedding ceremony and reception in Cornwall can have up to 15 guests, there may be restrictions on the number of people you can mix with over the rest of the weekend, depending on the risk level in your area. You must also ensure the venue is Covid-secure. Check the government website for the latest regulations - www.gov.uk silverlinings.co.uk

Covid-19 Stories
REOPENING A
I was so pleased to be reopening again and getting back to business making brides happy, but I must admit I was a little daunted. I was concerned the appointments and fittings in the boutique wouldn’t have the same magical feel to them with us all dressed in PPE, sanitising, temperature checking and quarantining dresses. So I made it my mission to ensure I could combine safety and luxury.
34
The Silverlinings Wedding Guide
We have been doing ‘pre appointments’ by phone to get to know the bride more and find out more about her wedding and dress ideas. This has enabled each appointment to be planned out and for me to gather dresses tailored to meet the brides ideas and style while ensuring brides don’t miss out on dresses they would like to try due to them being in quarantine. It’s been really lovely as myself and the brides already feel like we know each other before even meeting!
Covid-19 Stories
FOLLOWING LOCKDOWN By Hailey from Coastal Bridal coastalbridal.co.uk
We’ve always been fortunate enough to operate where the bride and her entourage get the whole boutique to themselves for two hours so social distancing is actually pretty straight forward for us. We get all the health and safety bits out of the way at the start of the appointment, then the privacy blinds come down the shop front so I can present the bride with her tailored selection of dresses.
Then it’s on to the good stuff - trying on and swooshing on the podium! And it is just as magical as it’s ever been! Other than wearing a face mask it’s every bit as special as ever!
Although we’ve recently had a couple of exceptions and our designers have worked their magic making the dress from scratch in just 8 weeks! However this isn’t usually the case so as ever you’re still best to be prepared and start your dress search 12-18 month prior to your wedding date. But we always have a stunning selection of dresses available to ‘take home the same day’, so if you are short on time and the designer can’t meet your request you still have some lovely options, plus these are usually even more fantastically priced which is a bonus! We’d love you to get in touch if you’re looking for your dream wedding dress.
We work extremely closely with our designers Victoria Kay and True Bride. This has meant exceptional service with regards to lead times, and we would as always recommend allowing around 6, possibly 8 months, for your bespoke dress to be made.

MUSINGS OF A PROSPECTIVE MOTHER OF THE BRIDE! PART 2
Plans are coming on – including a Plan B if needed – more of this later! FINDING THE VENUE
E & S have found the venue – and it's right on our doorstep. It’s the wonderful Retorrick Mill at Mawgan Porth with the amazing restaurant run by Scott and Babs. It is a laid back and rustic place, with a couple of options for the ceremony, a wonderful secret bamboo enclosed garden or a grass meadow by a pond – they are still considering which one to use. Should the weather not play ball (and being Cornwall you never know!) the ceremony can take place in the permanent marquee which is attached to the barn restaurant area. There is accommodation on site, ranging from chalets, and quirky sheds to a camping field. The food is fabulous, and both E & S are looking forward to the feast that will be served to their guests. I have developed a new vice – I have become addicted to scouring Facebook marketplace and eBay for small cut glass vases which will become perfect table decorations with the addition of some gypsophila and some wild flowers. Retorrick is so quirky and wonderful it doesn’t need embellishment and these little vases will be just enough on the tables. Being quite conscious of their eco credentials E & S have set up a wedding website with lots of useful information for their guests, and have sent out invites from Polly the Labrador to “Save the Date” via email! They have decided to send the invites out via email as well, but E and her future mother in law, will have a crafty few days to create individual invites for all the Grandparents. 38

WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING
E has never been one to dream about her wedding and what sort of dress she would have so I was interested to see how she would react when we went to see the lovely Tracy at Bliss Bridal based in Nansledan near Newquay. We had a fabulous afternoon from the moment we entered the gorgeous space Tracy has created to welcome her brides. Tracy started by chatting to E and then we got browsing and pulling out dresses that E liked the look of, these were taken to the changing room, and Tracy helped E into each dress before she came out to stand in front of the mirror and me! I have to say it was quite an emotional experience, E looked gorgeous in all of the dresses, but with Tracy’s expertise gradually the styles were whittled down – looking at necklines, colour (I did not realise quite how many subtle shades of white, champagne, blush and cream there are!), skirt shapes and materials. We were encouraged to go back to the rails and look for more dresses to try, I forgot the advice I always give to brides “be guided by the owner of the bridal shop – they know what will suit your body shape and you better than you will” and Tracy had to pull out one dress 3 or 4 times before E decided to try it on.
Tracy was right – the dress was stunning and suited E beautifully. Was it the “one”? It was gorgeous but only E will know until the day! E & S have booked their photographer – Steve Prebble. I first came across Steve at a wedding fair I attended a few years ago. I loved his photography and E who has helped some subsequent wedding fairs got to know him too. Neither E or S like having their photos taken so to have someone they both like and get on with is a must, and they are actually looking forward to their engagement shoot which will include Polly the Labrador!
COVID-19 PLAN B
I mentioned Plan B at the start of this musing. It has to be thought about – the what if Covid is still around to disrupt their plans. Their thoughts at the moment are that they will go ahead with a legal wedding if possible. They are currently booking a “Simple Statutory Ceremony” at the Register Office so they can only have 2 witnesses present. If the regulations announced on the 23rd September 2020 are still in place, they will change the legal booking and have more guests at the Register Office – a quick count up means that all 6 grandparents, both brothers and both sets of parents and them will just get in under the 15 guest stipulation. E & S are both very close to their respective grandparents and want them to be there at their wedding. A big celebration will then be held as soon as a date can be reset. So things are coming together – and we have everything crossed that come April all restrictions will be lifted!

Cakes
It’s true that everything is going to have to be scaled down for the time being. At the time of writing, weddings can only be 15 people (although the 15 doesn’t include suppliers) and so that means, for many, a lot of changes need to be made. 40
The Silverlinings Wedding Guide
One of these changes will be to the cake. If you’ve had to scale down your plans, then get in touch with your cake maker; we are here to help, and we have years of experience dealing with problems our couples may face (although not a global pandemic!).
Cakes There are many ways to still have your beautiful wedding with a show-stopping wedding cake within the new guidelines. Firstly, you could replace real cake with dummy tiers if you still want the cake to look the same as the one you originally planned. Don’t worry about waste, your cake maker can take the dummy tiers back and reuse them. I reuse cake dummies over and over again. Secondly, you could take the design you already have and ask your cake maker to rework that to the smaller size. You can then have the full version later when you have your big celebration. This means you will still get your dream cake, just later. Thirdly, scrap your original plans and have a completely different cake. Talk to your cake maker and opt for something smaller, simpler while incorporating the new look of your wedding day.
Cake freezes really well. So why not still have that four tier cake you originally ordered, then freeze three of them for your first anniversary party? Or talk to your cake maker about posting cake to those guests who couldn’t attend. This was something very commonly done, and it’s a lovely tradition to revive. We can come back and collect the uncut tiers, cut and box them up and post them to your would-be guests on your behalf. After all you don’t want to be doing that the day after your wedding; let us take that stress away too.
Whichever you decide, there is no reason why you can’t still have an amazing, beautiful and delicious cake. In fact, with less people to consider, there is more scope to have what you really want, not what you think your guests will expect. Plus there is more chance you’ll get to have some yourselves!

TOP TIPS FROM WEDDING INDUSTRY BUSINESSES
HAIR: MELODY-ROSE FROM MELODYROSE HAIR STYLIST Here is what you need to do in order to have the best hair day for your wedding: wash and dry your hair before meeting with your hair stylist to get an amazing hair style! We suggest washing your hair the night before your big day so you are not rushing around on the morning of your wedding. Start with a clean head of hair and you will be rewarded with the best possible hair style for your wedding day!
MAKEUP: HELENA FROM YOUR BEAUTIFUL DAY Naturally gorgeous, simple and flawless… my advice to my brides! A natural glow shines out on your wedding day but it’s never too early to start your skincare routine. Invest as much as you can in great products and PLEASE take your makeup off EVERY night! Add in a toner, serum, moisturiser and don’t forget to drink your water! Having great skin doesn’t need to be difficult but your care does need to be consistent to get wedding day ready results! Good skin = great makeup and whatever your style on Your Beautiful Day; who doesn’t want that? 48

VENUE: VALERIE FROM TREDUDWELL MANOR The space offered has to be practical and work in all weather, it is not about you guys making the space work, it is about the venue offering the best organisation. I think personally it is really important that the flow of your guests party is not being disturbed by having to change room or stand outside whilst turnover occurs. Large spaces are vital in case of bad weather, you and your guests will be there for the whole day and evening, it has to be pleasant, airy and light to avoid the feeling of claustrophobia.
CATERING: CAROLINE FROM CAROLINE GRIFFITHS WEDDING PLANNER Do I need a caterer? For many couples plunging into a DIY wedding those famous words of “Were doing the catering ourselves” always makes me nervous! As much as auntie Joan may make a mean plum tart and Dad can get cheap booze from the local pub don’t underestimate the other one million things a caterer actually does! You need to seriously consider a professional caterer if your guest list exceeds 40. You will not enjoy yourself when you’re running around worrying about dirty dishes and whether or not everyone has had enough to eat. If you do take on the catering yourself, at least hire staff to serve and clear up. It’s definitely money well spent and you can always rely on these staff not disappearing after 12 hours of drinking Prosecco and dancing. silverlinings.co.uk

Covid-19 Real wedding
The biggest compromise was that obviously due to restrictions was the amount of guests we could accommodate. We finally settled on the 19th October 2020, but after the government announced on Tuesday 22nd September that from 28th September we could only have 15 guests, we got on the phone to the venue and asked if Sunday 27th September was available to do with 30 guests, and they said yes!
Due to restrictive numbers we had to cut our wedding guest list from a 120 to 30. This was probably the most stressful part of the wedding trying to pick and choose friends and family. We have been totally overwhelmed at how understanding everyone has been. We did struggle at first trying to come up with a solution of how to include everybody, but using live stream was the best decision we made. Even now we have people messaging us saying how lovely it was to watch and feel included. The best bit is that we can re watch the ceremony ourselves, and see what everyone else has seen! Stag or Hen parties! With time not being on our side, the stag and hen party was the night before the wedding. To us, this wasn’t a massive issue, so to celebrate, we had 2 tables of six at the same restaurant, one for all the stags and another with all the hens. It was an absolutely brilliant night laughing and joking, and because of the 10pm curfew of bars closing, we were all tucked up in bed by 10.45pm!!!
Apart from Erika and Aaron, all wedding guests had to wear face coverings, but also had to be seated in bubbles with social distancing in place. Although this sounds incredibly strict, we felt safe and looked after. Also, you can actually see everyone in the photos rather than lots of crowded heads in a room.

The Silverlinings Wedding Guide
Covid-19 Real wedding
For us, The Alverton is the most grand but romantic venue and the perfect for the atmosphere we wanted. It was a no brainer really when we saw all the fairy lights and candles! The staff at the Alverton really went above and beyond with keeping us updated, and helping us wherever we needed it. When we started looking for our wedding venue, we both decided that we didn't want the traditional church and then go on to another venue, so being able to hold a licensed legal marriage with our registrar, really was perfect. The Great Hall was breathtaking, and we both knew that this was the place for our special day when we had visited. Remembrance played a huge part to our day. This year has just been a roller coaster of emotions, especially after losing close family members in the first few months. We had photo frames everywhere with photos of those who weren’t with us! We had reserved seating for our lost grandparents, and images of every family wedding in the past, decorated with more candles and lighting. We first met Steven, from Steven Prebble Photography, in a cafe to discuss what he provides on the day and packages. After our meeting, we emailed Steven the same afternoon saying that we would love to have him as part of our day. We then saw him again for our engagement photos in the freezing cold, grey, miserable day on an airfield in Newquay (Aaron is a pilot), and had such a great morning laughing and getting to know each other. After this, and rearranging dates, we didn't see Steven until the morning of the wedding! Steven is the most hilarious, friendly, kind, caring, and down to earth man we have ever had the pleasure to meet. silverlinings.co.uk

Covid-19 Real wedding Having a wedding video was an important one for us. Adam, Aaron’s brother, hasn’t been doing it for very long, but the quality and content he has put together is more than we ever imagined. We are completely surprised at what he captured, and we kind of forgot he was even doing it, so capturing everybody when they didn’t know they were being filmed, makes it look so relaxed. He has done such a professional job, we cannot thank him enough for what he has put together.
Wedding dress shopping is not the easiest, and really is the most overwhelming experience. But with Elaine, from Elaine Rawlings Bridal Boutique, there to guide, and give the most honest opinions and suggestions. We did it together and I wouldn’t have chosen any other dress or lady to help us. Not only was she there to help with the dress, the support that she gave to us after we had the dress chosen and then also during lock down and postponing is something I will never forget. Kayleigh from Beauteous Hair and Beauty is such a lovely lady. She really helped me out when I couldn’t find a hair or make up artist, and the fact that she does both was just amazing. She is so professional, kind, and kept Erika calm on the morning of the wedding. Friends and family have all said how it felt like we have known her for years because of just how lovely she is. The bride's nan in particular was very impressed and delighted with her blow dry; I think she has a new best friend there! We cannot fault the time and effort that Eva from Gwen’s Gardens had spent talking via email to source our flowers. Without her, we wouldn’t have had our beautiful flowers at such short notice! Originally, as it was to be in May, we were going with greys and white to keep it light as then we would have the wild spring coloured flowers in the background of photos. But then due to our 4 day turn around to get everything 54
The Silverlinings Wedding Guide
organised with flowers, we asked Eva what would be easiest, and she said white and pale pink, so that is what we had! We visited The Alverton when there was a wedding being held last year, and the first thing we saw was a flower arch. After some research, we found the lovely Emily from Emily Rose Event Hire. We explained what we wanted and she went above and beyond to help us get things organised for our special day, even when we messaged asking if we could change the colours to pale pink to match our florist with 3 days to go! We met Roger Miners at our first wedding fair; he was playing in the middle of the hall. We just remember a whole wave of emotion when we heard him playing and decided in that moment, Roger had to be part of our day. Roger has been more than accommodating with all the date changes and so supportive. Our day really wouldn’t have been the same without him. Roger is now rather than a supplier, someone we simply consider as a dear friend. We didn’t actually know Adrian Ward Magic was part of our day until he arrived at about 7pm on the wedding day as a gift from the bride's parents. Honestly, he was the best surprise we had. Even after he left, guests were still baffled at his magic, it really was amazing and had us laughing until our bellies hurt!

If you can, just go for it. It may not be the day you planned, but honestly, we wouldn’t have changed any of it for the world. Things will go wrong, and you will forget to do things - we forgot one of the groomsmen ties, and almost forgot to cut the cake! It's a story to tell the grandchildren one day, that’s for sure! Whether you have 15, 30, 100 or even 200 guests, the outcome will always be the same. It really is about you and your partner. You will be married to your best friend, and even I still can’t believe I now have a husband!

CORNWALL HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR HEARTS AS WE BOTH MOVED HERE T O G E T H E R A F E W Y E A R S A G O . We knew as soon as we got engaged where our wedding venue would be - Carbis Bay Hotel. We had spent our first Valentine’s Day together, lots of holidays & got engaged there, so the day we were due to leave after our engagement we went to reception to speak with the Wedding Coordinators to get it booked. Ria & Nicole were so helpful from the minute we booked to the minute we were leaving, nothing was too much trouble even bringing me an Aperol Spritz whilst having a meltdown & having my hair done. The view from Carbis Bay Hotel is breath-taking, the staff are fantastic & the food is always delicious. We stayed in one of the new beach lodges which was out of this world & had lots of space for getting ready on the wedding morning.

Real weddings We chose a celebrant ceremony as neither of us are religious & wanted a more laid back feel to the day. We had a pianist play through the ceremony & throughout our wedding breakfast which was lovely - he even learned some of our favourite songs. We wanted our theme to be quite classic and floral. We kept a neutral colour palette with warm golds. All of our signs & my leather jacket had lightning bolts on, to go with our tattoos. Our wedding stationary was ordered from Etsy, we used tags with our names on to help create our sloe gin favours which we made ourselves. My makeup was done by my sister & Maid of Honour, Topaz, who is a professional makeup artist from The Wirral. Wedding makeup is so important – don’t go for a bold look if you’re not used to wearing lots of makeup, you’ll feel self-conscious & uncomfortable. I have a special relationship with Topaz, I didn’t even have to tell her what I wanted, she just knew. I remember her telling me “Remember to tell you face your face you’re happy, even if you’re nervous”.
After doing some research, I came across Anna from Wedding Flowers Cornwall. As well as the flowers, we rented the chargers, candles & centre pieces from her too. Our florist was really important to us as we wanted flowers to be the focal point of the day; we definitely made the right choice as we had so many compliments. There were flowers everywhere and the smell when you walked into the room was incredible. Anna was so helpful, nothing was too much bother. She completely surpassed all expectations & created our vision perfectly.
We had looked at hundreds of wedding photographers before we decided on Olivia WR Photography. We had an engagement shoot included in our package & from the moment we met Olivia & Tobias we knew we had made the right decision; both were so easy to get along with. Neither of us felt particularly comfortable posing in front of the camera but Olivia & Tobias helped us to feel more relaxed. It is so lovely to look back at moments of the day we didn’t even realise were happening around us.

One of our favourite parts of the day was fireworks overlooking the beach in the evening. We had tried to surprise our guests and it was a fantastic end to the day. We had a photobooth from Flicksbox which was great entertainment. We wanted something that would fit with the style of the venue, Flicksbox has more of a retro feel so worked perfectly. Our main evening entertainment was a band – one of my favourite parts of the day was watching lots of our musician friends get up at the end for a jam.

Covid-19 Real wedding
Our plans changed quite a bit, we were due to get married near where we live in Knutsford with a 70 day guest (100 evening guest) wedding on the 5th September. In July, we realised that this wedding wouldn’t be able to go ahead without some serious changes so we discussed the option of getting married now (as we’d been engaged for 2 years and wanted to start married life) and having a big celebration next year when it’s safe to do so. That’s when we found Treseren, the most beautiful venue in Cornwall we could have ever imagined.
- it’s so beautiful and just perfect. Because we live up North we had a video tour with Emma from Treseren and we knew straight away we wanted to go ahead, it’s so stunning. When we arrived on the 3rd September it was so much more than we could have ever imagined! We can’t explain how grateful we are to Emma, Paul and Charlie, they made our wedding and the whole weekend everything it was.

Covid-19 Real wedding
Dean from Chef In My Home did a 9 course tasting menu for the 6 of us which tasted unreal from start to finish. Dean owns his own farm 2.5 miles away from Treseren and all of the produce came from there and the fish was locally caught so it was so great knowing it was all grown and sourced locally in Cornwall. Dean was super knowledgeable on every dish and we loved hearing how he made some of the produce used. Our photographer Paul runs Treseren with Emma and from viewing his photography we loved it straight away as his style is very relaxed and natural which is what we wanted - we’re so happy with them.

We chose a celebrant led wedding as neither of us are very religious. Laura and Phil from the Cornwall Registry Office were absolutely brilliant, the way Laura conducted the ceremony was so beautiful and personal!
Covid-19 Real wedding
At our original wedding we wanted lots of flowers so I was adamant that we were still going to have lots of flowers and I was still getting a flower arch despite only having 4 guests this year. We opted for quite neutral colours with white and pastel peaches, blues and purples. Our florist Cat from Tide Flowers was absolutely amazing! She just got our vision from day one and was so easy to talk to throughout. When she arrived on the morning of the wedding, the flowers were so perfect!

Covid-19 Real wedding We decided to have little cupcakes rather than one whole cake because we thought they would be cuter for a smaller wedding and we could all easily have them on the day and days after we were there. We chose 6 chocolate and orange and 6 lemon which were totally delicious! Emma recommended Sarah from The Cornish Cakery to us and straight away she was lovely, she advised us to have the edible flowers which worked so well and matched our theme perfectly.
COVID-19 TOP TIPS With everything going on in the world at the moment, if you’re thinking about having a sm all wedding because you don’t want to wa it to be married, DO IT!!

Covid-19 Real wedding
This was such an emotional post lock-down story. Meg contacted us with the idea of changing from a larger venue and bigger wedding originally planned with the idea to come to Treseren with just four close friends as their witnesses, with a bigger party planned for next year once this is possible. We were able to help and juggled bookings so they could keep the same wedding weekend they had originally booked with their larger venue - so happy we could make this work for them, especially as on a personal level they had had such a challenging year, including Covid interrupting their wedding plans. Their wedding weekend at the beginning of September was one to remember. It was such a brilliant atmosphere! We loved that Meg’s cousin and bridesmaid Holly brought her cocktail making kit and set up a cocktail station, having perfected the art of making cocktails during lockdown. We did a boy’s early breakfast so they could go off for a swim at the beach and a girl’s later breakfast so they could enjoy the space to get ready! New for us was the positioning of the stunning floral arch by Cat at Tide Flowers on our terrace, framed by the green of the trees and gardens beyond, it felt picture perfect. We have had lovely set ups for floral arches before, but this was the first time on the terrace. We love the way each wedding at Treseren is unique and we work with our couples to achieve their own bespoke wedding and experience. Tom and Meg escaped just the two of them for photos in the dunes at our local beach whilst their friends relaxed with their cocktails and played table tennis on the lawn, before sitting down to a private dining experience with a tasting menu by Chef in My Home. silverlinings.co.uk
